Judah Lamb has once again delivered an outstanding book, Offensive Grace: The Scandal of Radical Love.

This work transcends the label of “just a book.” Each chapter concludes with discussion questions and a prayer, making it suitable as both a communal guide and an individual meditation. Every chapter addresses a specific topic from multiple perspectives, prompting readers to reflect on areas for personal growth. The approach is gentle and gracious, focusing not on condemning shortcomings but rather on encouraging self-examination for improvement.

I am considering how to integrate this text into my coaching practice, as I see many relevant themes reflected in my work. We live in an era that is often addicted to judgment, where there is a strong demand for justice and the belief that individuals should receive exactly what they deserve. However, the Gospel presents a narrative that challenges this notion; it is a story of a God who generously offers us what we do not deserve.

Set aside at least a day with a tissue handy for this contemporary, wholesome, philosophical, psychological memoir facing reality, Christian procedural devotional, which is MUCH easier to grasp than his (DIS)Embodied. Topics include, but are not limited to, scandal, radical love, betrayal, mystery, rescue, meeting God in the dirt, existence, selfless help, mercy, surrender, blessed humiliation, pride, all existence is self-sufficient and proof of love, existential gratitude, love as relationship, image bearers, headship and service, participation in divine nature, sacrificial love, resisting scarcity, communal experience, generosity, creativity, expanding pairs to trinities, infinite love, mercy trumping justice, the image of God, understanding mercy, good news, treason, the last word belonging to love, and only love saves. There are discussion questions, prayers, and a few soporific moments.

Each chapter takes one topic and looks at it from all angles, helping us, the readers, consider where we still need to improve. It is done gently, grace-fully, not to condemn the reader's shortcomings, but to encourage the reader to examine himself or herself to improve where improvement is needed.

Each chapter ends with discussion questions and a prayer, so it could be used as a ommunal guide, or the questions can be used alone as meditations.
