V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her mama over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn't happen.
Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.
When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

DNF at 59% The MFC was driving me crazy!

Okay let's review why she told herself she didn't want to sleep with MMC:

-first sexy encounter with MMC he turns cold which hurts her feelings and then didn't explain or say sorry (fair). But on the other hand, she touches his scars so like, we really have no idea what got him upset? REALLY Ms. Self-body shamer?

-She doesn't want to be like her mother who fell in love with her father but he treated her like crap even though her mom was desperate for his affection (which also, fair)

-She knew she would get hurt cause she... has a v card I guess? Can't separate $ex and feelings? idk.

But hey, who cares about self respect or childhood trauma when we are in LuSt. They don't talk to each other for a month and the SECOND the MMC gives her a smidgen of attention, all clothes are coming off.

Girl..... find a backbone. Which I'm sure it will come if I'd finished the book but life is to short to deal with a crappy lead.

I’m not even sure what it is I read. Makes me wonder how many readers, who probably don’t have the education in the classics that I have, will understand this mess.
So it’s Beauty and the Beast but also Diana and Orion from mythology. In all the various iterations and names for the mythological creatures.
And the fmc blows hot and cold. She hates him. She loves him. He’s a monster. He’s her savior.
Her father and brother abused her emotionally and physically her entire life, but she hates that her husband sought physical revenge on them. Idk, my moral compass must be whack, because I believe they got what they deserved and she should be proud her husband loved her enough to do the right thing.
It was a mess.

This was a first-time author for me and OMG did they hit it out of the park. I am absolutely obsessed with this story. It checked every single one of my favorite boxes: dark romance, a morally gray MMC, subtle mafia vibes, touch her and die energy, and truly the pièce de résistance a Beauty and the Beast retelling infused with Greek mythology. Like… come on. How could anyone not fall in love?
The writing and storytelling were absolutely magnificent. Every page pulled me deeper into the world, and even though this is a dark romance, it somehow felt like I was reading a twisted, dangerous fairytale. The atmosphere, the emotion, the romance it all blended together so beautifully.
I am beyond excited for the next book because I am officially hooked and already counting down. If this is just the beginning, I cannot wait to see what this author does next.

It’s like beauty and the beast with greek mythology. It’s mid slow just enough to understand the characters and events. I love the building of the main characters. The obsession at first sight is 🤌😘 if it weren’t for my home chores this would’ve been at least 2 days read. Plus I’m not feeling well so it took me a couple of days. And thank you for the author for giving me this opportunity. I have more of your books, I’ll start with sociopath book 1. Ooohhh love the spice too🥵🥵🥵yes! An obsessive, possessive mc is sooo fine.

I HATE doing this soooooo Much!! Because this is one of my all-time favorite Authors!!
This book just is not up to the caliber of her other books, so disappointing. Stop with the "Darlings", its creepy and it's a term all the guys use too much. Most of this book is full of either flash backs or reintroduction of past characters. I just couldn't get into it, there wasn't enough story line to make me care about the characters, they hardly interact.
I was so hoping for Mason's magic, I will always read her books, this one just sadly fell short. :(

The Unwanted Groom is a stunning, dark romance that grabbed me by the tenterhooks and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. This dark romance is fascinating in the way the author weaves in Beauty and the Beast–inspired elements throughout the story. Additionally, I enjoyed how Greek mythology was also worked in.

Orion exudes power and seduction, inspires fear in everyone around him, and yet he is completely undone by his intense obsession for his “Wife”. Influenced by a complicated past, he exudes an aura of danger, is slightly (or a lot) unhinged, and maintains a fiercely protective side when it comes to Diana. He is everything thing that I have come to expect and love with this author's anti-heroes.

Diana is a quietly strong heroine whose resilience speaks loudly. She has survived a difficult childhood, and yet she is full of compassion and empathy. Her strength of character is part of what ensnares Orion's attention and awakens his possessive nature.

Diana and Orion’s connection was more subtle than I would have preferred. While Orion’s possessiveness was unmistakable and his obsession clearly knew no bounds, it was the little actions he took that truly showed his devotion towards her. Diana’s love for Orion grew more softly. She felt the sparks between them. However, she was more uncertain which made sense give her backstory. Even though the emotional connection wasn’t as strong, there were some very steamy scenes that beautifully portrayed their physical connection.

While this is a dark romance and not necessarily for the faint of heart, I do feel it was significantly less graphic and gory when compared to some of this author’s earlier works. There are several secondary characters the author teasers the reader with and I hope get their own stories told. The Unwanted Groom is a standalone novel, that can be easily read on its own, but make note that the book does have characters from some of this author’s previous books - most notably those featuring The Wrights (Rush and Rafael, mainly).

I read an early version of this manuscript and I voluntarily leave this honest review.

OK, let’s unpack my thoughts on this one.

I wanted to rate this book higher, but the story felt scattered and the female main character was difficult to connect with. These two both have complicated pasts that explain their intimacy issues, but even so, much of the story fell flat for me.

A marriage that starts as a business arrangement becomes something they never expected.

The MMC was completely obsessed with his wife. I ate it up every time he said, My wife. 🫠
She consumed his mind…

💍He buys her rundown library, has it restored, and gives it to her as a wedding gift.
💍He takes their marriage contract and prenup and rips them up
💍He creates a special bank account just for her deposit some money that was agreed upon, and more
💍He’d literally burn the world for his wife
💍Don’t even look, touch, or do anything to harm or disrespect his wife because he will come after you and unalive you.
💍he’ll give her anything she wants. Anything that makes her happy, he wants to give it to her
💍He pays for all of her grandma‘s bills, so she never has to worry about money and will get the absolute best care
💍No one‘s allowed to call his wife names, not even her. He can’t stand it when she talks down about herself.
💍She’s his good girl
💍MINE!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephaine's Book Reports.

This is the story of Orion and Diana. Her family is in trouble. And when they are in trouble it always comes back to her in her father and brother's mind. Little does she know that the father that kicked her out is now using her as a pawn in a way to save the family business. He is trying to save the family business from being taken over by Orion Write. Orion is ruthless businessman. But the same can be said about him at any time. He has been through so much and is keeping some massive secrets that I didn't figure out while reading this book. Now Diana, the girl who runs a library that is basically going to fall to the ground any day and Orion the wealthiest of the wealthy, are about to become man and wife. He needs her and the marriage to keep a property that meant a lot to her mother and Diana is doing this because of threats. Both of their back stories will hurt your heart. These are two people that are doing life the best way they can. I think that both of them were starved for love and had never really been loved to know that is what they needed in their life. I have to stop talking about this story or I am going to give something away. I have always love V.F. Mason's book and I have missed her writing and the stories she tells. This was a great read that I know I will read over again one day. Now I can't wait for more books in this series, because I am so so curious about his brother and some of the other characters we met in this book.

I so love reading V.F. Mason's stories and The Unwanted Groom was amazing . It was the perfect mix of fairy tale and Greek mythology with a dash of the morally gray heroes that are author's specialty. Orion and Diana were so good and let's just say in this fictional world I don't have a favorite couple. I love them all and reading all the sneak peaks here and there made my day. But Orion and Diana were meant to be together. Those two rewrote their personal stories and wrote their better one . They refused to pay for their father's sins but righted the wrongdoings anyway. Orion's quest for justice with questionable methods lead him to Diana . And he became her greatest fan and supporter. And although he tried to run from the Wright's family curse he was possessively obsessed with Diana . Diana was smart and sassy and fierce like her namesake but she rewrite her story and got her happy ending. And let's just say that that tension and the slow burn kept me on my toes. And those two were pure fire together. And I was so curious how everything will unfold and that last chapters were explosive. That epilogue tied all the loose ends and gave an answer to Actaeon's questionable future but that will be quite a story itself. And Orion as a family man and a loving parent was such a treat. And he built Diana a library, we're talking couples goals here . Now I can't wait for Levi and Lavender's story .

Thanks to the author and Give Me Books Promotions for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

The Unwanted Groom has elements of Beauty and The Beast and mythology. A dark romance (lite), billionaire, age gap romance with emotionally damaged main characters.

“The more you cry, the more painful the punishment becomes.”

“Even the harshest and coldest structures dissolve under the right pressure.”

Orion and Diana have horrible dads who have caused a great deal of trauma throughout their lives, both physical and emotional. She was unloved and unwanted, he was unloved and molded to take over the business. They are forced into a business arranged marriage so he can inherit his mother’s property and she can help her dickhole father save his failing company.

It’s lust/love at first sight for both of them, but they try to fight their feelings for each other. Him because he wants to protect her from his darkness and her because she wants to protect her heart. He’s obsessive and possessive (hot) from the start, and it only grows as the book progresses. Eventually, all secrets are revealed. Does it change how Diana feels for Orion? Eh… they’re in love.

I think the only thing I didn’t like about this book was near the end with the “hunt”. Not my thing, but other people may appreciate it.

I absolutely LOVE the revenge Orion takes against Jones and Grant.

No third act break up, so no groveling (thank you!!! I hate third act break ups)! This book does have a happily ever after.

"Whenever I read stories about villains, I wonder... were they all princes with good intentions once?"
While the characters in The Unwanted Groom may share names and some characteristics of mythical figures Orion and Diana, their story is not a remix or a retelling but contains elements of many stories woven together (definitely some Beauty and the Beast vibes) into this darkish obsessed-antihero novel. It starts as an arranged marriage since Orion needs a wife and Diana's dad is desperate for more time. There are many touch-her-and-die moments since it is an instalove on Orion's part once he sees her and Diana doesn't understand the rules of his world. This is a quick read where the innocent female find herself falling for a self-proclaimed monster only to realize that he wasn't exaggerating and having to decide what she can and cannot live with. I wouldn't call this overly dark, but it has elements that some may find disturbing, so please read the author's note to determine if this story is for you.

This love story is about healing from family trauma and seeking justice... no spoilers. Learning that love is not a fairy OR in Orion & Diana's case a Greek myth. Can they escape the tragic tales of the God's and Goddess's that they are names after....no spoilers

"A hunter seeking his prey, just like the hero he’s named after, except his mortal namesake’s rule here is absolute, and I’m nothing like Artemis."

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Greek mythology hints in the book. Because I love reading the characters' options of the different version of the stories and what the meaning behind their tale. Their is one more Greek hero name in this story, and they are linked to... no spoilers

" “She loved myths. Her life had been too tragic to believe in fairy tales, and she associated herself with Orion to a degree, and maybe that’s why she named me after him. In the end, her love killed her. Just like it killed Orion.” "

Orion & Diana relationship, i just love it. They building their bound thriugh their tense chemistry that both are learning about...no spoilers 🔥 They debate about stories and talk about their mam's death HOWEVER both don't show all their cards...caution is well advice with their world...no spoilers

I need Eros' story because after that comment, he makes about wives. I want to learn more about the other couples' love stories. We get a tease summary of their love story (kidnapping & and revenge, etc)

" He rolls his eyes. “Please, not you too. I’ll soon be allergic to the word wife for how frequently you all use it.” He sighs. "

I have fallen in love with the different families APART from a few families... no spoilers. I just love the banter between the men especially 😆 They have been through a lot of trauma, but they found friendships that are more like brothers. Family isn't just blood, it's the brotherhood you create that you protect along with their wives

Orion and Diana

It gets better as the story progresses.

I liked the concept of the story but the execution was a little bit off. There are mythical elements mixed with the Beauty and the Beast fairytale that are a bit confusing. It may just be me.
Also there were other characters who may have or had stories of their own. I felt like I was missing something.

What I did like was the possessiveness of Orion. I like how protective he was. Emotionally he was a bit cold. He often switched from hot to cold for over half of the book. Long slow burn. His actions showed his true feelings.

Diana was naive but she did what she felt she had to do for the love of her grandmother. She did not expect her beast. She has a little bit of a backbone when pushed.

In the end I did like the story. I am curious about the other characters and how their story will evolve.

Orion is the last person you want to upset because he doesn't give second chances. He also doesn't tolerate sniveling men who think they can deceive him. When someone owes him something, he will collect, and it shouldn't surprise him if someone offers up their daughter. Another step he might take is to marry her to gain full control. So, what better way than to marry the daughter? Diana hasn't had the best life at all, and my heart broke for her. I loved that she has a passion for books like no other. When her father gives her an ultimatum, she takes it. However, not everything is as it seems, and Diana is about to discover just how powerful Orion truly is. Orion won't take things lightly, but there's something about Diana that calls to him. When things start to go haywire, can he protect her?

Diana and Orion's story is sad, shocking, and finally beautiful. This couple has been through so much with their families, it's amazing that they survived. This story starts as a daughter being forced to help her abusive family save their business, calling her to a duty that in reality is not hers to fulfill. This couples loves the myths and stories that were told by their loving mother's, although they each covet these stories for different reasons and different interpretations.
The characters in this story support and fuel the need for more stories with these supporting characters and makes me anxious with anticipation for what will come next.
Beautiful story of fated love and destiny ❤️

"My soul and my heart were steeped in sin and hell long ago, and no one could ever break this curse."

Wow, it was a read I felt, breathed, and could almost be sure I was inside the story.
The blend of Beauty and the Beast with the story of Artemis and Orion was absolutely wonderful—romantic, tender, and passionate.

There's romance, poetry (with every word that came from the MMC), tension, a complete need between the two characters, and total devotion.

The passion that both characters exude together was vibrant, exciting, and painful; it left me breathless in every chapter.

I read about a hero who was unconditionally possessive, obsessed at all times with his FMC, and I loved it! I was fascinated!

This is a Beaty and the Beast retelling, and this is Orion and Diana’s story.
Orion is vicious, cruel, cunning, and feared, while totally focused on conquering and destroying. Diana is quiet, strong, and resilient, and the sparks fly between her and Orion, but they have more in common than they thought, both emotionally damaged.
This is a well written story, with family, friendships, emotions, revenge, an age gap, secrets, lies, resilience, compassion, survival, obsession, touch her and die vibes, survival, morally gray, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and twisted, dark romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This was an excellent book. I loved the world building and description. Both were so well done. I felt like I was standing right in the middle of everything. I enjoy a good book that pulls you in and you’re watching it in your mind. The characters were so real. So believable. I enjoyed the push and pull between them. The beauty and the beast vibe was wonderful. This is the first time I’ve read this author, and I’m looking forward to reading more. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your ARC team.

This is a beautiful dark romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed this book, and the spice in unhinged. I definitely wish this book had an audiobook. I would read this again!!
Orion and Diana are perfect for each other. The anti hero take in this book was absolutely perfect and makes you fall in love with orion quickly. I love a good anti hero trope and adding in a retelling to belle’s story is chefs kiss.

Orion and Diana story was one heck of story. Compared to this author previous books it was not so dark as her others works. But it definitely was one heck of comeback since it’s been awhile of new releases from this author. And I love how you learn of myths and of the greek gods in her stories too. I can’t wait to see more of the characters we saw in here it would be great to hear their stories too!

Orion and Diana’s story was definitely one of a kind. This author did all the right things by pulling you in page after page, wondering what was going to happen next. This had just the right amount of mafia vibes, with the best amount of obsession. I loved the Beauty and the Beast flow, without doing too fairytale like. The slow burn had me guessing for sure! I would love more from these characters! I for sure cannot wait to see what this author brings to the table next!

This was surprising as I’d never read this author. But I love a beauty and the beast retelling. This was dark so please check triggers before reading. But this MMC has a touch her and die aura which is so so hot. And who doesn’t love a vigilante who takes care of the horrors that his father (and her father) has done? I ate this up and read it so fast. If you like a dark retelling with some definite spice and a ln MMC with a dirty mouth - read this one!

Modern day twisted tale of Beauty and the Beast.

Diana and Orion form a relationship based on coercion, possessiveness, business and lust. Their intense story has an interesting cast of characters, dark abusive pasts, passion, suspense, violence, retribution and dangerous secrets. Secrets... "they have the power to scare, scar, and destroy." And when those secrets are revealed... watch out! This is definitely a page turner.

Obsession to the max

Anything V.F Mason writes I gobble up!! She never disappoints with her writing.
I love me a man obsession, and Orion is that to Diana. The Unwanted Groom is deliciously good, and absolutely sexy. I love seeing all the twist and turns along with all the paths are crossed. All of Mason's books can be read by themselves, but world's collide in them. I love the whole universe Mason's has created. I can't wait to see more of Diana and Orion.

I received this ARC in return for an honest review. I must say, I was really excited based on the premise but really struggled to get hooked. I felt it was very slow and I didn’t feel much charisma and connection between Orion and Diana.
I appreciated the balance of spice and plot. It wasn’t overly smutty though so if that’s your preference, you may want to check something else out first.
