What happens when your immune system decides it's going to kill you?
‘Get Well Soon’ is a heartfelt account of Kirsty's experience as a young woman juggling autoimmune disease with the demands of modern life. Since being diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and lupus, and a liver with permanent scarring, Kirsty has spent half her lifetime encountering quirky drug side effects, playing hospital department bingo, and fighting against stigma.
From near-death experiences, wearing wigs, and social distancing like life depends on it, through to bad dates and career lows, Kirsty shares her perspective in the hope that readers can better understand the less obvious ways in which chronic illness can impact daily life.
Full of warmth and wit, ‘Get Well Soon’ is a memoir on resilience, positivity, and finding hope in the face of despair.
I was born in the cultural centre of the universe (known as Nairn, Scotland) in 1992. Despite being the world’s worst scientist, I studied chemistry at the University of Edinburgh and have since worked in pharmaceuticals and renewable energy.
Having been diagnosed with autoimmune liver disease aged 20, I have spent the last decade playing NHS Department Bingo. After turning 30, I decided to write a memoir about the impacts of chronic illness.
I aim to raise awareness of autoimmune conditions, reduce the stigma of liver disease, and advocate for organ donation.
My memoir, Get Well Soon, will be published in December 2025.
