Two parents. Two children. One chance to become a family.
Life in Willow Creek moves at a steady, familiar pace, shaped by shared work, quiet kindness, and the bonds that grow when people look out for one another.
When Rachel Ellis arrives in town with her young son, she is seeking exactly that kind of steadiness: a safe place to settle, rebuild, and give her child a sense of home. Love is the last thing on her mind, but Willow Creek has a way of offering more than expected.
Silas Everett has built his life around responsibility and routine, raising his spirited daughter with patience and care. He does not go looking for change, until an unexpected meeting between their children begins to draw their families together in small, ordinary ways.
As scraped knees, shared meals, and quiet moments weave their lives closer, something gentle begins to grow. Though the past has left its marks, healing in Willow Creek comes softly, through community, compassion, and love that does not rush or demand more than either heart can give.
Set beneath the wide Wyoming sky and the hush of cottonwoods in the breeze, Whispers on the Wind is a clean, comforting historical romance about found family, second chances, and the quiet courage it takes to open your heart again.
Perfect for readers who love slow-burn frontier romance, emotional depth without heartbreak, and hopeful endings that come gently, on the wind.
3.5/5 Disclaimer: *I’ve received an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review* Mind you I haven’t read the first book of the series but they can be read independently.
It’s the beginning of the story of Rachel and her young son Asher, as they hope to build a home in Willow Creek. The story is short, to-the-point and flies by easily. It’s just what you’d want to read during Christmas holidays and days when you want a story of the storm coming to an end and seeing sunshine again. Starting again is not easy, but with courage and staying true to who you are, being the bigger person and not letting things influence how you react, but rather having the maturity to let your actions speak for themselves will get you through to what you deserve. That’s how I’d summarize Juliet’s story. It’s about finding the way to belong somewhere again after a loss, and slowly making a home, so that happiness knows where to find you and knock on your door.
I would have loved to see more of how Rachel planned the lessons, more of her thoughts and have her romance have an actual courting phase before coming to the realization of being in love. You can tell how it’s written. It doesn’t share much detail, rather lets you imagine it however you want. I would love to see an extended version.
Whispers On The Wind is book 2 in The Willow Creek Hearts Series.
This book features FMC Rachel - a widow - who after communicating with Clara (from book 1) decides to move to Willow Creek for a fresh start with her son Asher, after losing her husband. Upon arrival she comes across the MMC Silas, who she finds out is also a Widower with a daughter.
The story is full of ups, downs, hesitations, debating with her innerself.
It gives a sense of what its like to battle within herself and fight belonging somewhere, while trying to decide what's best for not only herself but her child.
The one thing I do love about this series is the HEA for each main character. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I am a dark romance girl through and through. But finding Juliets series is a great cleanser for me where I can just enjoy the read and relax.

This is such a gentle book, so far removed from what I normally read but I loved it. The language and scene setting take you to the small frontier town were life was much simpler. Summer fairs, pie baking and quiet love for family and friends.
This book is an easy read of a wholesome historical fiction romance book. I enjoyed the simplicity of the story and how the author depicted the small town life with a one room schoolhouse. I enjoyed the book and recommend reading this sweet story.
Okay so this is a very unique book for the Christian Romance genre. The description of the town, and the people who live there is very clean, and reminiscent of the early age of life here in America. Though because it is also a very vague and cliche description it could be of any place around the world.
The main character appears scared and going into hiding from an abuser or cult from which she is running from. And yet, that’s not the style of the book at all, which I’m actually quite appreciative for. As the other troupes are triggers of mine that I can’t read about. Knowing that this really is a lovely romance, you get to read about a unique style of courting.
Anyone can feel connected to this story because of the troupes learning to fit in to a new place, learning to be brave, learning how to go after goals and achieve them.
The slow, calm mannerisms of the characters and the writing brings a breath of freshness to this genre. This is not for everyone but if you like clean, unhurried books you will enjoy this book.
I read Juliet’s first book and really enjoyed it so naturally, I had to read the second one when it was released. There were so many relatable moments. I really enjoy how Juliet somehow manages to include so many details yet still leave much to the imagination. I feel transported back in time when I read her!
This is a heart-warming story of Rachel, a young mother who has found herself widowed with a 9 yr old son. She carries grief in her heart and she knows her son, Asher, does too. Determined to move on in her life and make a good home for Asher, she moves to Wyoming Territory to be the town school teacher.
Things are rocky at the beginning. But she finds a good friend in Ruth, the proprietress of the boarding house, a woman filled with wisdom and kindness. Her nephew, Silas, notices Rachel immediately but he’s a careful man, keeping his thoughts to himself and revealing little except his love and gentle watchfulness over his daughter. Annie is a bundle of sunshine and energy that never fails to bring light into every environment she enters. Though some, like the town busy body, cause distress, little Annie warms to Rachel and Asher immediately.
Even as Rachel catches Silas’s eye, something about him draws her attention also. She tries to ignore this, assuming that it is inappropriate for her thoughts to stray too far in his direction. She immerses herself in her work as teacher and in raising Asher with all the love she can. Her primary goal is to carve out a place of safety and love for him while supporting them both.
Rachel continues to encounter the town busy body and deals with her handily. She endears herself to her students and pours herself into bringing unity and significance to each one of her charges. She finds herself appointed to play a major role in the town Fair and is thrown into contact with Silas on the project. Through all this, Rachel earns Silas’s respect and Rachel comes to know Silas as a hard-working honest man. A wary courtship ensues, but one beneath the surface. Silas keeps his eye on Rachel. Their friendship slowly grows. At the same time Asher is growing closer to Silas as well. He moves from a sad, timid boy to one of self-confidence and contentment in his new home. Rachel is intrigued with Silas but she feels confused about it, assuming it might not be right for her to consider interest in another man while still mourning the loss of her first husband. Silas, having similar struggles, waits….
Quote: “Something in his glance held longer than necessary, longer than he meant it to. Rachel felt it tug loose something she meant to keep folded.”
As Rachel and Asher come to fully belong in Willow Creek, a tempting offer arrives with promises of opportunity and advancement. Once Rachel would have taken it in a heart beat. However, if she stays …..
“I’ll spend the rest of my days making sure you never wish you’d gone.” So said Silas.
And so it is that two people who lost their first loves found love again and forged a new family, with Annie and Asher as new-found brother and sister, to live happily ever after in the town of Willow Creek.
Whispers on the Wind is a beautifully written historical fiction story. I loved it and was captivated from the start right through to the end. It was very descriptive, making me feel as if I had been transported back to the 1800’s and living with the characters in the small quiet town of Willow Creek.
I liked the character, Rachel. She was a widow, who arrived in town with her young son Asher hoping to make a new start. She was to be the new teacher at Willow Creek and needed for them both to belong, feel safe and be accepted in their new home. Rachel certainly hadn’t expected to find love again. However, she slowly found herself being attracted to a Widower, Silas, who had a young daughter Annie.
Rachel taught the school children to listen for laughter, gave them a reason to belong to one another, and encouraged each child to do things they are good at. When the Harvest Fair arrived at Willow Creek this proved to be fun and interesting for both the children and adults. Rachel received a letter which could change everything. She needed to make a choice, the right one, for her and her son. Should they stay or go?
The story has many themes including, second chance of love, romance, new hopes, to belong, widow/widower and kindness.
I enjoyed and highly recommend reading this wonderful gentle love story. Thank you to Juliet Ellison for allowing me to read this ARC of Whispers on the Wind and I give it five stars. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Willow Creek Hearts Series, The Widow’s Lantern.
A sweet, heart-warming historical fiction story of Rachel, a young widowed mother with a 9 year old son. To try to move from her grief, she moves to Wyoming Territory to be the town school teacher. She’s trying to give her son a good life as they make their way forward. She isn’t looking for love. In walks Silas. A single father with a spirited daughter. The two children bring the adults together. It’s unexpected for both of them but they make it work. This is not my normal read, but it was a nice change and a wonderful found family story.
Whispers on the Wind is as soft and gentle as its title indicates. When love is the strength of a budding relationship, there is a truth that grows into a beautiful flower in the hearts' landscape. Reading this story moved peace through the hearts and minds of our book club to bring us to the quiet joy of recognizing that strength in ourselves.
Whispers on the Wind is easy to read and hard to forget. The story features strong characters that are also vulnerable. Their slowly growing love faces obstacles, but survives, as they have survived their troubles in the past. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read love stories.
