William Taylor Jr. lives and writes in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. The Blood of a Tourist (Sunnyoutside, 2014) is his latest collection of poetry. He is a Pushcart Prize nominee and was a recipient of the 2013 Acker Award.
One of few books of poetry where after every poem, I audibly click my tongue in disbelief, or whisper-yell “goddammit!” - because I don’t know how he continues to floor me, or punch me in the gut, or knock me over with the feather of his words. WTJ writes like he is “forever on the run from death and her yes-men,” because he is, and he has clearly discovered that perhaps that is the job of the poet - to write like a bandit stealing moments. He masters that with every poem and makes us all want to hang on a little longer, so we can see for ourselves what his words show us.
