Oh this book just continues with the stupidity… the missing husband who’s an outdoor guy and knows the woods and land like the back of his hand is missing and asking around for directions… but yet he is close enough that they are following his trail and going to back to the mountain man’s house in between search efforts… oh and he’s also afraid of thunder… (SMH, can this get any dumber) In book 1 they find his truck only an hour away, so how could he get so dang lost that it’s taking all these days to get back? And if he is running into people in the small towns and asking for directions, why doesn’t he borrow a phone and call his wife or ask for a ride home?!? Like why is he suffering by continuing to try to walk home through snowstorms but leaving clues for them to track him?!? it’s just so unrealistic and and repetitive.
And the wife who’s 64 along with her best friend who I can assume is around the same age are hiking around for miles in knee deep snow looking for the missing husband… those women must be in incredible shape to be that age and enduring these harsh conditions… she still hasn’t told her children thier father is missing even though it’s been over a week. But she has still has stuff to do to get ready for Christmas before the kids all come, so while ding dong daddy is lost wandering around in the woods during snowstorms without even a pair of gloves, she decides to go finish her Christmas shopping in town… my eyes hurt from rolling them at every dumb line I read!
As they continue thier search, they stumble upon an old cabin and find a note and fresh evidence that he was there just hours ago. But a blizzard rolls in so they get stuck in the cabin. Some time later they hear someone walking around outside, they go out to investigate and find the husband! So you’re telling me he was safe in a cabin, he decided to leave the safety of the cabin while a blizzard was brewing only to circle around and end up back at the cabin where wife and mountain man were riding out the storm?!? Is this story for real?
So at the end, he was renovating a cabin he bought in secret for his wife and got stuck because of a snow storm… that’s it, that’s the climax…
This was without a doubt the dumbest series I have ever read. I get that it was supposed to be a story about love and faith and coming home to your loved one, but it was so unbelievably dumb, incredibly repetitive, and just completely unrealistic it just ruined everything that could have been good about the story. I will definitely never read anything by this author, it was just so bad, on every level….

June Woods is a new to me author. The title was intriguing. This avid reader and retired high school English teacher dislikes cliff hanging stories, where I need to buy the next book to find out what is happening. Only read Book 1 and now Book 3 to find out what happens. Stories are repetitive. Same descriptions over and over - faltering on when do give up search for missing husband, when to notify authorities, relating past experiences in their marriage, tidbits about friends, and when to tell adult children their dad was missing. Living in Michigan with many a snow storm - even that was over done. As a retired Creative Writing and English teacher, all 3 stories could have been condensed into one novella. Half of Book 1 and the last half of book 3. Not reading more by this author.
I read all three books within 24 hours, because, really it could have been one good book. The story of the missing husband kept me guessing while at the same I was disturbed that this woman had multiple conversations with her a dult children and never once shared that daddy didn't come home last night... what the what? AND what was up with going into a convenience store and getting a few supplies and NOT CALLING HIS WIFE after he'd been missing a few days? That threw me off... still friendships were renewed and kindled... sweet ending, if a bit implausible.
After reading book 1, I immediately started Book 2; then Book 3. . . Then Book 4. I didn’t stop. Four books in 2 days! I shivered during the blizzard and prayed for Greg as he wandered in the frozen mountains. A must read!
The mystery was solved, but only after a lot of hard work and determination. A devoted wife never gives up on her husband, and she pushed through until the end. Thanks for an amazing series, June.
