EVERY FAMILY HAS SECRETS. SOME ARE DEADLY.

Eve returns to the windswept Scottish island of her childhood, drawn back to her mother’s secluded artistic retreat by unsettling news – a local boy connected to the family has gone missing.

But the island feels different. Her sister won’t speak, her brother is on edge, and the retreat’s once-thriving group of artists and misfits are quietly packing up and leaving.

As a fierce storm rages across the island, Eve must confront whatever it is her family are hiding – and the darkness that may be lurking far closer than she ever imagined.

A gripping, twisty psychological thriller for fans of Adele Parks and Claire Douglas.

“A family bound by love, fractured by silence, and haunted by a truth no one is ready to admit”

Set on a retreat on a remote Scottish isle, The Silent Twin is a gripping, emotionally layered read that very quickly pulled me in and didn’t let go. Each chapter was short and told the story from different perspectives which I thought worked brilliantly.

There is a constant sense that something terrible has happened, but the truth remains just out of reach for much of the story. Not knowing who was guilty, or even exactly what had gone wrong, kept me turning pages and second-guessing everyone. The tension was built so well throughout.

What really worked was how each character is forced to carry secrets in an attempt to protect their family- without knowing the full truth themselves. This added a lot of emotional weight and made the characters feel very human and believable.

One of the standout elements for me was the use of emails- they felt like such a clever way of giving the silent twin her own voice, allowing me to hear her side of the story despite her inability to speak.

The subject matter is handled with real care and sensitivity, never feeling exploitative or rushed. It is a thoughtful, well-paced novel that balances psychological tension with emotional depth.

I honestly loved this book so much. I had no expectations going in and found myself gripped, rooting for each person without really knowing the truth. I was wrong more than once on where the story was going, but in the best way. It felt cohesive, a lot was going on but the pacing and tone worked perfectly, exploring each characters perspective without being over complicated. I’d highly recommend to fans of character-driven psychological thrillers.
