Five years after their whirlwind love story in Accra, Kofi and Aliza Mensah are building the life they dreamed of—careers thriving, a marriage full of passion, and hopes for a family that sometimes feel just out of reach. When Aliza’s best friend Tasha joins them for the holidays and Kofi’s business partner Sean crashes Christmas too, the couple braces for a house full of laughter, chaos, and cocoa-fueled nights.
What they don’t expect is a knock on the door at midnight that changes everything. Old tensions spark, new alliances form, and Aliza has a secret she’s not ready to share.
Over twelve unforgettable days of Christmas, the Mensahs will argue, laugh, dance, and cook their way through misunderstandings and reconciliations. Friendships deepen, romances spark, and family ties are tested in the glow of twinkle lights and the scent of jollof rice. And through it all, Kofi and Aliza must fight for their love.
First ☝🏾I have to say ....... I LOVE the Mensha's!!!!!
If you enjoy holiday reads that prioritize high energy chaos and laugh out loud moments over quiet reflection, then Christmas With the Mensahs is the perfect pick! L.B. Gaines throws newly established couple Kofi and Aliza five years into their marriage and building their life into twelve days of utter, "out of control" family chaos when friends, family, and a special guest descend upon their home for the holiday.
The central friction revolves around Kofi, who struggles to battle the escalating tension between his wife and his mother. However, the true heart and star of this book is Aliza. Frankly, her patience is legendary; the amount of disrespect she endures during these twelve days is astonishing, and her ability to hold it together provides a compelling emotional anchor to the story.
The supporting cast brings much needed levity. Tasha is, by far, my favorite! She is hilarious, unfiltered, and a true, loyal friend to Aliza. Sean my other favorite perfectly rounds out the group as the loyal comic relief everyone needs.
Christmas With the Mensahs is a whirlwind of holiday stress and humor, perfect for anyone who has ever felt their own home become a chaotic revolving door during the festive season.
Thank you to L.B. Gaines for the advance copy of Christmas With the Mensahs. Kofi and Aliza are still deeply in love, still passionate, and still fighting for the future they want. But with the holidays comes company, chaos, and the kind of tension that only family, friends, and unexpected guests can bring.
I loved how the story blended joy with real-life challenges the laughter, the teasing, the cultural pride, the quiet moments where love feels both heavy and hopeful.
This is a heartfelt holiday story about love that chooses to stay, even when life gets messy. Cozy, emotional, and full of cultural warmth the perfect December read.
This was a good way to catch up with the beautiful couple that captured my heart in Three Months in Accra. Their chemistry in the spice department was still burning hot. However, honey the drama in this with the family had me a little stressed and was testing bonds. There were amazing moments of family just enjoying each other. You can feel what the characters are going through as if you are there. At one point I wanted to come in the book and get some people together. Family and culture is very important especially when it comes to the blending of both. L.B. does a wonderful job with the up hill battle of balancing your peace, home, family and love.
Some of my favorite moments were the talks Kofi and his dad shared.
L.B. Gaines delivers another heartfelt story that brings all the emotions. In this follow-up to Three Months in Accra, we revisit Aliza and Kofi as they navigate Christmas with their families and the challenges of blending two different cultures during the holidays.
I loved watching them work through the tension with Kofi’s mother in a way that felt honest and grounded in their backgrounds. The story made me laugh, get frustrated, and even tear up.
A warm, engaging holiday read and definitely one to add to your TBR. Thank you to the author for the advanced copy!
LB Gaines! It’s something about your writing style that I truly enjoy! I can picture everything and feel as though I am there!
Imma be honest! My favorite character this book was Kofi’s dad! He spoke so much truth! He had to protect his own household, BUT he made sure Kofi understood he had to do the same.
The surprise made me cry so bad! Loved it! Forever in your catalog!
thank you so much to author LB Gaines for sending me this ARC of the follow up to one of my favorite books of the year " 3 months in Accra"
I highly suggest reading 3 months in Accra before reading the follow to avoid any confusion 😉 In book one you meet Aliza & Kofi, this follow up Christmas with the Mensah's is 5 years later, Kofi & Aliza are married and are hosting their friends for the holidays, while they are happy there is some sadness with Kofi wishing his family was there.
I love the way the author captures the coziness of the season but also dive into the hard topics surrounding the holidays such as missing family. Kofi & Aliza I just love the way they love and support each other. Their love was tested but they stood strong, and that is what marriage is supposed to be. On one side you have the emotions of missing family but on the other side you have all the emotions that comes with being around some family members that doesn't respect your relationship and your boundaries. This book shows how hard it can be to navigate parent relationship while standing up for your spouse.
LB Gaines does it again, I had all the feels, so many different emptions but in the end they got their HEA
This is a quick read and follow up to Three Months in Accra. I was excited to get a catch up on. Aliza and Kofi. The first book in it with a bright note with them getting married and it seemed like Aliza was accepted by his family, but in this book we learned that that was not too much of the case. Five years have passed and they are living in DC and trying desperately for a baby. We also learned that Kofi and his parents aren’t the closet. This book had his spice and then also we got the mother-in-law from hell. To be very honest, similar to the first book for me Kofi does not do enough when it comes to defending Aliza. Aliza is also carrying a secret that will impact their future. I Appreciate it his father even telling him he needed to do better when it came to handling his mom and his wife. Overall, I enjoyed this book and we had a nice ending to it and I’m glad that we got some funny moments from Sean and Tasha. lol thank you to LB for this ARC.
It was nice to catch up with the Mensahs and see what they were up to after saying I do in the first book. This update shows you that marriage isn't easy and there will be some ups and downs and things that test you but as long as you are a united front you can get through it. Tash was definitely a good friend and came in clutch to support Aliza in this book when they received a surprise visit.
While the holidays are a time for cheer which there was some in this book, there was also some slight drama as well. Kofi's mom was at it again and honestly, Aliza was better than me because in-law or not I definitely would have had a few choice words for her especially in my house. Kofi's dad gave him some good advice and I think it helped the situation in the end. There were some side character pairings that seemed to be festering as well so I am curious to see where those stories are going to go. Overall I think it was a nice follow up to the first book and it was nice seeing how the two cultures were mixed in with each other and Aliza's surprise for Kofi as well and his reaction was priceless.
ARC Review 📚 Book Title: Christmas with the Mensahs ✍🏽Author: L.B. Gaines 📕 Format:📱= eARC ⭐️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 🌶 Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️
🕑Quick Take: We catch up with Aliza and Kofi Mensah five years later as they are building their lives, balancing expectations, and pursuing professional growth. The Mensahs are preparing for Christmas with friends until they encounter some not-so-pleasant surprises.
✨ Tropes: - Holiday Romance - Festive Fun - Family Drama - Established Couple
💕What I Loved: I love the love Aliza and Kofi share. It was soft, tender, and patient. I appreciated L.B.’s delicate handling of their family-building process and cross cultural marriages. Something about her writing style is artfully done, with carefully crafted sentiments and wisdom. The story was a great balance of love, festivities, laughter, and family drama!
Thank you so much, L.B. Gaines, for the advanced reader copy!
Initial thoughts: Messy but entertaining. Loved how it all came together at the end! You must read 3 months in Accra to fully enjoy this read!
Book overview How would you feel, if Holiday hell is about to unleash without a warning , well this is what Aliza and Kofi are about to experience. Kofi’s parents and Sefi turn up to their house to celebrate Christmas with them. Aliza isn’t up for this unexpected visit as she only planned for her best friend Tasha and Kofi’s friend Sean to join them for the Christmas celebration. Sefi is the women her mother-in-law prefers over Aliza, so the tension is thick! The drama unfolds when Kofi’s mother started to comment on Aliza every chance she gets, this puts Kofi in the middle of the crossfire. Will he set his mother straight and create a strain relationship with her or will he let it slide and ask his wife Aliza to deal with it just for the Christmas holidays.
I am very happy with how this story is building up.
We meet up with the Mensah’s 5 years after their whirlwind love affair in Accra. I wasn’t expecting conflict but forgot Kofi’s mother disapproved of Kofi marrying an African American woman and not a Ghanaian woman like Sefi.
Now Aliza has the patience of Job because everyone would have been cursed out purely off the strength of the disrespect. And Kofi might’ve turned up single. I couldn’t understand why nobody was embarrassed by their lack of respect for Aliza in her own home.
The ending saved a lot for me. All in all, this was a great read. Quick and easy to get into. I am hoping for a story about the Mensah’s as a big happy family and maybe one of the side love stories blooms into something that will be cause for celebration.

Power struggles 😬😮💨⁉️When peace, love & family are the motivation, offer an olive branch of hope, sincerity & commonality as the naturalizer‼️”Christmas With The Mensahs: 1.5 Book in Stamped: (A Love Story Collection)” was a great read. However, I’m conflicted by the Mensah’s family dynamics, expectations & intercultural complexities was a challenge of patience, resolve & sanity to remain respectful 👀🙄🥴 (not my battle, not my strength nor my home 🙂↔️🤭🤷🏾♀️‼️). Nevertheless, like music, a great meal, holiday festivities, a new addition & or cultural traditions have the capacity to humble, edify & unify even the staunchest critic, nemesis into your greatest advocate & ally. 😍
Five years into their marriage, Kofi and Aliza Mensah are navigating the challenges of balancing work, love, and family expectations as they prepare to host Christmas at their home. Of course, things don’t go exactly as planned, which makes it all the more entertaining and real.
L.B. Gaines has created something beautiful; she doesn’t just tell a Christmas story; she invites you into a family. You can hear the laughter, taste the jollof, and feel the warmth of a home where love, faith and forgiveness shine brighter than any string of lights.
If you love family-centered holiday stories with depth, humor, and heart, Christmas with the Mensahs is a must read.
Another great read from L.B. Gaines! This story truly touched me personally and had me crying five pages in!
Aliza and Kofi are back! This time the couple are navigating family, traditions, and culture during the Christmas holiday. Managing personal battles in the midst of hosting family proved to be difficult but their love stood the test. A battle of family by blood and the family you choose. Kofi’s mom was bringing the drama honey!
I loved that through all the turmoil, Kofi and Liza protected their love with grace and patience.
*ARC Review* Get ready for a holiday romance like no other with “Christmas with the Mensahs” by @lbgainestheauthor. This follow-up to “three months in Accra” picks up 5 years after the whirlwind love story, where love conquers all, including cultural differences and family drama. L. B. Gains masterfully weaves a tale of found family, friendship, and love that prevails. Earned 4/5 stars from me. Add it to your Holiday TBR! Release date: Nov 28, 2025 on Amazon & her website.
I devoured this novella! It’s beautifully written with so much emotion, warmth, & romance. I highly recommend reading Three Months in Accra first to fully appreciate Kofi & Aliza’s relationship.
Kofi’s mom had me ready to fight 😩🥴 but the payoff in the end was worth it. I loved how Kofi & Aliza balanced each other & always showed up with love & support. A wonderful, heartfelt holiday read!
Thank you, so much to L.B. Gaines for the ARC! This is my honest review.
Although still in love, you see them face challenges - not necessarily with each other but life circumstances. Comparison, culture differences, opinions from family members who think they mean well, but don’t realize the hurt they create with their words & actions.
Things come full circle but the foundation of their love never wavered. I loved having a piece of Aliza and Kofi
This was well written, full of poetry, like Three Months in Accra. It was a lil slow in the middle—don’t think it was necessary to know every daily detail. Thought we’d see Sean and Tasha fall in love like the description said. I’m happy Kofi put Maame in her place and she eventually came around to Aliza. Although, I wish Baba put her in her place too when she was correcting Aliza in her own home.

ARC Review!!!!! I truly enjoyed this book! It had me emotional. I’m glad that things turned out how they did for Aliza & Kofi. The conversation Kofi had with his father was needed!!! Some of my favorite quotes are “Son, you cannot serve two tables at once. You must choose where you eat.” & “I’m going to put you through this mattress until you remember whose heart you are.”
Just when I thought I was good with the ending from Three Months in Accra! This was good! Showed the cultural differences during a holiday! And how compromised and love wins all! Sefi took me by surprise! I thought she was gonna be a B****! I hope there will be a story for Sean and Tasha and Nelson and Sefi!

L. B. Gaines has done it again, setting your emotions on fire with this novella, a continuation of Aliza and Kofi’s love story. Boundaries and obstacles are thrown in their path, but together they persevere, stand firm, and lean on each other for support. If you’re looking for a quick read that rekindles your belief in love, this is it—I’m a believer.
Releasing November 28, this book showed real love with real life issues. Merging families and its drama. It had some great comedic moments as well. Aliza and Kofi are in my top favorite couples now!!
Perfect story for remembering the importance of family especially during the holidays. This is a Kofi stand account!!!! Perfect inside and out and Aliza is a saint!!! This short story packs in so much emotion but has the very best perfect ending.
I really enjoy watching these Kofi and Aliza’s love mature. Even with the little drama they had they figured it out in the end. But my favorite person is Tosha. Tap in to find out why. Great holiday read
This book is about healing, grace and hope. It shows two cultures who are different and have obstacles. But one miracle can bring the family together. The Story of Kofi and Aliza is heart warming. I definitely would love a short story on there progress.
book is really good. love the plot and story line. I think for a novella the build up was too long and my only gripe is the narration. I dont like when a woman narrates for a male character and even harder when they have an accent but the story line kept me going.
