His Proposal, Their Forever by Melissa McClone is part of The Coles of Haley’s Bay series.

Bailey Cole has lived in Haley’s Bay all her life. This little town and all it’s residents mean everything to Bailey. She is an artist, and is very passionate about her work. She is also very passionate about the Broughton Inn. It is an historic inn that has always been part of her life. She worked in the kitchen there as a teenager and now as an artist, she and other artists display their work there and she also teaches a class there. That is until early one morning she gets a call from her Grandmother that there is a construction crew out front of the building with a wrecking ball, getting ready to knock down her beloved inn.

Where the Cole family always puts family first, the McMillian family’s only ties to one another is business. Without it, they wouldn’t have anything to connect them. Justin McMillian and his two siblings are desperately trying to prove to their parents that they are worthy to take over the family real estate development business. He sees success within his grasp as he is getting ready to knock down the Broughton Inn in order to build a fancy new resort hotel. That is until a crazy lady in paint spattered coveralls and purple slippers runs in front of the inn and stops all progress. Come to find out, both Justin’s family and Bailey’s family have been duped and now the ownership of the inn is in question.

“McMillian Resorts would succeed. No matter what Justin had to do to make that happen, including charming the silly slippers off the mess of a woman standing in his way.”

As Justin is forced to stay in Haley’s Bay to sort out these new problems, he and Bailey spend more time together and bonds begin to form. Justin finds himself caring about things he never gave any thought to before. One of which is a skinny, muddy stray brown dog that he and Bailey keep seeing around town. Bailey is determined to save the poor thing so together they take on the task. Justin never owned a pet as a child. But now, he oddly can think of nothing better than giving the poor guy a forever home. Deep down, maybe he is hoping that Bailey would be a part of that picture as well.

This is a wonderful story of small town life, the love of family, and making the decision what is most important in life. Will Justin decide that proving to his parents he can be a ruthless business man is most important, or will he decide that having a woman he loves by his side is more important?

The author, Melissa McClone is an active advocate of adopting shelter animals and I love the way she works this into her books. The dog in this story was so adorable and played such an important role in helping Justin and Bailey find their way. This, as all of Melissa’s books do, left me with a warm heart and a smile on my face.

Very good book. Bailey has spent her whole life in Haley's Cove and the Broughton Inn has been a big part of it. She's awakened one morning by a phone call telling her that there is a construction crew at the Inn, getting ready to demolish it. When she arrives at the Inn, she discovers that Justin's family has bought the property and is planning to put in a modern resort. Because of its historical significance, Bailey is able to put a temporary halt to the plans. That's when a new wrinkle appears in the process. The previous owner has sold it to two different people - Justin and Bailey's brother, who has purchased it in her name.

Justin is part of a real estate/hotel company that is run by his family. His parents are ready to retire, but won't turn the company over to Justin and his two sisters until they feel it is deserved. The Broughton Inn deal is his to complete. He is not at all happy about the delay, and is willing to do whatever he needs to in order to make it happen. He doesn't expect to be attracted to the opposition. Justin has to stay in Haley's Bay to sort out the issues, and that involves spending time with Bailey.

I loved seeing the effect that Bailey and Haley's Bay have on Justin. He sees Bailey's large family and how supportive they are of each other. With the Coles, family comes first. He contrasts them with his own family, where business is the be-all and end-all of their lives. They spend little time together and when they do, it's mostly all business. He also sees the small town and how everyone looks out for each other. Justin finds himself wanting to spend time with Bailey and get to know who she is outside of being the other owner of the Inn. They also get involved together in finding a stray dog that has been wandering around town. Once they do, caring for it brings them closer together.

I loved watching the free spirited Bailey work her magic on the uptight Justin. She was determined to make him see that the Inn was more than just a property. Even though most of her family members (the guys, at least), told her to stay away from him, there was something about Justin that she couldn't resist. While the guys were warning her off, the females in the family were all in matchmaking mode, do all they could to throw Bailey and Justin together. The search for the dog was sweet, and I really liked seeing how Bailey got Justin thinking about keeping the dog.

The attraction between Bailey and Justin was pretty strong. It kept drawing them together when they knew they should stay away from each other. I loved seeing how quickly Justin got to know Bailey and what was important to her. His feelings for her grew, though he tried to deny that he was falling in love with her. Bailey also got to know Justin well and could see how important the Inn acquisition was to him. When she came up with a compromise that would work for them both, each thought that it was the perfect solution. But when his family gets involved, things go downhill fast, Justin has to decide whether proving himself to his family is more important than his love for Bailey.

I have to say that I love how it all turned out. Justin's conversations with his family were a real eye opener for him and I got a kick out of what he did. I also thoroughly enjoyed his attempts to see Bailey again. The help that he got to pull it off was fun to see, and really brought home to him the differences in their families. I also loved the part that the dog and its rescue played it the story. He was one more thing that showed Justin what had been missing in his life and I loved seeing how quickly the dog found a place in Justin's heart and life.

Bailey Cole is an artist who lives in Haley’s Bay, Washington. She loves this town and has lived here all of her life. Many members of her family and a large number of her siblings live here as well. Haley has always loved the Broughton Inn where a group of artists have been able to show and sell their work to the many tourist who visit the town.

Justin McMillian is part of the dynamic McMillian Resorts group. They build resorts and Justin supervises the demolition of structures and rebuilding of a new resort.

Early one morning, we find Justin with his demolition crew ready to demolish the Broughton Inn. Bailey calls the police and jumps in to stop them. There is artwork from her fellow artists inside and she must retrieve it. The police arrive and determine that the permit is invalid and, as the property is listed on the Federal Register of Historical Places, there are big restrictions as to what can be done to it. In addition, Bailey learns that her extremely wealthy brother has purchased the Inn for her as a gift. But, McMillian Resorts has purchased it too. When they find that the previous owner, Floyd Jeffries, sold the property to both buyers on the same day for cash and then fled the country, they realize they have been the victims of a huge scam. Now, it’s up to the courts to sort it out.

While the problem is being sorted out, Justin and Bailey begin a friendship of sorts after rescuing and adopting a stray dog. Bailey’s close family is very protective of her and they let Justin know that. His respect for her and her family shows and soon their attraction starts to heat up.

How can they ever be together if they are on different sides of a battle to win the Broughton Inn?

This is a sweet, true-to-life story of people in a small town and how everyone knows everyone else and cares for each other. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading more from author Melissa McClone.

I really liked this book. I loved the plot line and also the setting of the book. It was interesting that Bailey is interested in art and she gets involved somehow with a real estate developer also that he has what she wants in more than just one way. I like Melissas books as they are nice clean romantic books to read . Melissa hits a hit to the outfield and she makes it a triple!

When Justin McMillian shows up to demolish a local inn, he is not prepared for artist and historical society member, Bailey Cole to appear and stop the wrecking ball. He and his sisters find they have been swindled by the original owner of the inn, as he has sold it to two parties.
Unbeknownst to Bailey at the time, she is the other co-owner of the property. Both Bailey and Justin discover they have more in common than most people think they would.
How to each win the property and each other? That is the challenge and it looks bleak for their relationship. As the fates would have it, many things transpire to help them reach their goal.
Enjoy their banter, friendship and budding romance as you partake on their adventure

This is a wonderful romance story where trusting your heart to love someone, even in the face of adversity, will win out over any obstacle. Bailey and Justin go toe-to-toe over a historic inn. But, as they work together to find a solution, and a stray dog, they learn a lot about each other--against their lawyers' advice--and what's important, love and family! I recommend this story!
