Vivid, bloody and explosive action, while hunting for a serial killer who is on a killing spree across the border. The action is breathtaking, and non-stop operation. It seems life the officers are constantly couple steps behind the culprit, and the cruel and bloody crime scenes are piling up. I loved the way they were putting the pieces of the puzzle together, working as a team, and having each others back. With lots of new evidence coming to light, the twists were constant, keeping the mystery and momentum high. Drew and Sami are compatible, their minds work as one at times, they have lots in common, as well as attraction and feelings growing between them. Both of them have been hurt before, they are not looking for a relationship, or romance, but are rather helpless in front of the feelings they have for each other. They both have faith, that they rely on, they believe in guidance, and share those beliefs with each other, trusting that God will lead their lives. I absolutely enjoyed this story, in every aspect. I read it in one sitting, just couldn't put it down ~ Five Spoons
A good story. Like many other Love Inspired Suspense novels, the romance and suspense were both good, but I felt like parts of the story weren't completely believable. I liked the characters and how part of the story took place in Canada. All in all, a fun read.
*I received a complimentary e-copy via NetGalley for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
Wow lots of suspense, murder, drama and romance. The characters are ones I liked and wanted them to catch the bad guys. Does mention prayer and faith as part of the characters.
I like that Samantha is such a strong character. Samantha Bennett is a FBI agent who is on vacation tracking down a serial killer that no one else believes in. Samantha lives in Portland, OR. Drew Kelley is a Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector. He is part of a task force working with border control, DEA, ICE. Drew is divorced and does not women. Samantha has tracked down the Birdman serial killer to Canada to a hotel room but before she can break into the room she is stopped. She got in the middle of a drug buy stake out. She is not believed until they find a murdered woman in the room. Drew believes Samantha enough to follow the trail back into the states because of a missing Canadian man. Soon both countries become believers and work together. Samantha also is now a target for the Birdman. The setting is all over chasing the Birdman in the two countries finding plenty of murders and danger. Fast paced story.
Don't want to put the book down til finished.
I was given this ebook to read by Harlequin and Net Galley. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Joint Invetigation.
Warning: Reading this book before bedtime may lead to lost sleep and make you hear things going bump in the night!
This was quite a suspenseful book, with an evil serial killer that could be right out of the news. It definitely made me want to read faster to see if they would catch him before he hurt another person. The teaming up of the FBI agent and Canadian Mountie made the storyline really interesting as they travelled back and forth across the border in pursuit, ending in my corner of the country. It made it even more real as I could picture the places described and imagine the action-filled scenes playing out nearby. The romantic tension between the main characters was believable and added a nice layer to the story too.
Recommend for fans of suspense with some romance and faith elements. Looking forward to reading more in this exciting series!
(Book received from a blog giveaway. This is my unsolicited, honest review.)
I have been reading these "Love Inspired Suspense" books for a LONG time. "Joint Investigation" is among the best, if not the best, I have read. The protagonists are believable, and equal partners in the adventure, regardless of gender. Neither protagonist was a stereotype for that person's gender. They have a sense of humor [as does Ms. Reed, as the epilog shows]. They actually communicate with each other. Ms. Reed breaks away from "the formula" used in most of these [hunky male saves perky female]. It is not exactly Chaucer, but, if someone is going to read a book in this genre, this would be a good one.
This was really an outstanding mystery! Definitely one of the best from this line! Full of action and twists and turns. Tight mystery. I could have easily read this as a full length book and it would have been great. I'll have to read all in this border series. Well done!!
Joint Investigation is a book in the Northern Border Control by Terri Reed. I really enjoyed this serial killer mystery suspense. The opening will capture your attention and keep it throughout the chase to find the serial killer. Don’t think that because this book is only 200+ pages that Terri will not surprise you and keep your heart racing. Our female lead is Samantha (Sam), an FBI agent on a mission to solve the murder of a friend. She has been tracking the serial killer for six months. Until she unconventionally meets Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector Drew, no one has been taking her findings seriously. Drew takes it seriously and decided to assist in the hunt for the serial killer she has dubbed Birdman. Both characters are extremely likeable. Although typically difficult to accomplish, Terri did an excellent job of balancing Drew’s desire to protector Sam and respect her skills as an FBI agent. You are cheering them on as a couple the whole time. I highly recommend this book if you like a captivating mystery/suspense with the perfect balance of romance. I completely enjoyed this book. Sami is an FBI agent on a mission. The mission that Canadian Mounted Police Inspector Drew Kelley interrupts. Sami is upset with Drew in the beginning but then more information comes to light and she owes him her life. The serial killer she is chasing has set his sights on Sami and Drew is determined to keep her safe and help her solve the mystery before one or both of them wind up the next victim! I really liked Sami! She is a tough, smart lady with serious nerve. She and Drew both have had bad relationships in the past so both of them have problems trusting. I love how Drew is a 'knight in shining armor' but still trusts that Sami will have his back. They are a great fit but neither of them jump into the romantic part of the relationship. They are partners, friends and it evolves quickly but it isn't an instant 'boom' they are together thing. The story is disturbing and realistic and the bad guy completely believable. It was a 4/5 for me. I really love this author's writing. Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
There are many reasons a reader could recognize this book as being written by a seasoned author. It was professionally done and pulled the reader into the story. I’ve read many books by Terri Reed, and I loved them all. This one was no exception.
What I liked: The suspense started at the first page of the book and built to a fevered pitch by the end of the story. This is what any lover of suspense/romance likes to find. The phrasing was catchy and original, and the plot was logical and unpredictable. The developing romance was sweet and natural.
What I didn’t like: The assumption that Sami could not have a future with Drew because of what happened to her former partner, was a little unbelievable. A stronger motive for a separation would have been more realistic.
Over all, I give this book five stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story … hated to put it down … and recommend it to anyone loving suspense/romance.

Northern Border Patrol: Keeping the U.S.–Canadian border safe
Northern Border Patrol series just keeps getting better with bold, independent character leads and strong supporting characters this is a series that can't go wrong. Reed continues to provide original plots that flow smoothly and quickly. Keeping the reader centered on the story. She uses her writing style to bring the scenes to life for her readers. This is a great read for lovers of romantic suspense.
My rating of "Joint Investigation - Northern Border Patrol Book 2" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.
One huge draw for me to this story was the fact that it combined multiple law enforcement agencies and crossed the border into Canada.
FBI Special Agent Sami is in pursuit of a serial killer and meets RCMP Mountie Drew when her search takes across the border. The two end up teaming up together in pursuit of this villain. Their pursuit takes them to quite a few different places in the states and Canada. They encounter quite a bit of disturbing stuff and dangerous situations along the way. They are able to capture in the villain in the end but at what cost?
Sami and Drew were likeable characters. These two worked well together, being able to read each other well and provide backup for one another without being overbearing. Both have a faith in God and openly discussed their beliefs with each other. These traits made working as a team smooth. I found it easy to cheer for Sami and Drew and loved the scene of their first meeting.
This was a fast past story with a lot of nail-biting action, the villain was always one step ahead of them. I enjoyed following Drew and Sami on their quest to figure out how he was able to complete the crimes without being caught, figure out what was motivating him and catching him before anyone else got hurt. I felt like I was right there with them trying to figure out who the mastermind was and how to stop him. I enjoyed the ending, but did feel like I was left with some questions such as did they ever find the James? Part of the answer is given but I would’ve liked more. Overall I enjoyed the story and plan to read more in this series.
RCMP agent Drew assists FBI agent Sami in chasing a serial killer.
What I liked: The plot was intensely engaging. Realistic details were inserted in a way which reflected solid research. I appreciated how the last scene was worded to reflect the first scene in the book.
What I didn't like: There were several places where characters seemed to notice or know things that they had no way of knowing. This wasn't a huge problem, but I definitely noticed it.
Writing and editing: There were very few distracting copyediting or continuity errors. The writing was unremarkable but appropriate to the genre.
Romantic content: The love relationship was prominent nearly from the start. I apprecieate that the characters handled it with maturity and clear values.
Christian content: Faith, of a vaguely theistic variety, is a prominent theme. God is mentioned 32 times, Precious Son is mentioned once, but there are zero mentions of Jesus or Christ.
FBI agent Samantha Bennett and Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector Drew Kelley make a good team after Sami learns to work together. She is investigating a friends murder and has trouble letting go of the control. It's a very good book. I have read at least one of the others in the series. Near the end I was starting to suspect who was involved but the book was full of twists and turns. I wasn't sure they would survive. I've read many of Terri's novels and have never been disappointed. I have never found her stories too graphic but just enough to detail the story.
AUTHOR Terri Reed out did herself again with murder suspense and mayhem across several states and borders. Serial killer, cold cases and new cases. Also she incorporated a multi-agency task force. FBI Sami and RCMP Drew as well as other officers together to solve, find and capture the Birdman. Will they succeed? Will they get caught in his plot to kill and destroy? Find out by purchasing this book. Stand alone book in this series. Thanks Terri Reed #murder #coldcases #faithoverfear #TerriReed
FBI agent Sami Bennett is tracking a serial killer in Vancouver when she steps in the middle of a RCMP drug stakeout. The stakeout was a failed trap but led to a collaboration between RCMP Inspector Drew Kelley and Sami to continue tracking the killer who was operating in both countries. It soon becomes evident that the killer is playing with Sami. This had plenty of action and a mutually developing romance between two strong characters. I good read.
This is the first book I've read by this talented author. She skillfully combines the palpable threat of a serial killer with a budding romance between two crime-fighting characters, and pulls we the reader along on a wonderful ride!
If you enjoy a thread of spookiness, very light, and strong, heroic characters, this novel is for you. As for me, I'll be looking for more exciting novels from this author.
Definitely not my style but the depth of the plot was lacking to say the least. Also, the jump to saying they wanted to be married at the end would have any reasonable person on the hot pursuit of hiding from the other. Talk about creeps. Also, maybe if they concentrated on actually investigating, they could have caught the birdman a lot sooner. Instead, they worried about each others scents.
An intricate plot filled with lots of red herrings, dead ends, and a truly evil villain. The love story between the two main characters was realistic and heartwarming. The faith thread was subtle but strong.
This book is completely clean in language and content.
I borrowed this book from our local public library.
This was pretty boring for a supposed-to-be-exciting story about two law enforcers chasing a serial killer from continent to continent. Not to mention, the leads severely lacked romantic chemistry. I am glad to be finished with this book.
I can't imagine being the target of a serial killer. For that matter I wouldn't want to be the one who had to chase one and worry about everyone's safety includIng my own. Now a sexy RCMP, well that's another story altogether.
I enjoyed the interplay between Canada and the USA in this title. I was engaged and pulled into the story. I liked their pursuit of a serial killer and trying to fit the pieces together. Lots of twists and turns.
This is the 3rd book in a series, but I read it as a standalone. I’ve actually read the whole series, but out of order. It’s a good book series. This book starts out fast. The suspense, and action is really good. I thank the author for all her hard work that she put into this book. Great job!
You had me at 'Northern Border'. One of my favorite places in the world! Well done, tight writing. Loved the main characters, and immediately found the rest of the series on my TBR pile!
