Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
This book is similar to the Big Book for alcoholics, but written for people with food addictions. It's not a well known concept that people could have uncontrollable cravings for food of all types, mostly flour and sugar based products. The stories are anonymously written by addicts from all walks of life about their roads to recovery. "One does not need to be fat to be and addict or an addict to be fat."
The 12 Steps are the same basis to recovery, which includes a Higher Power, spirituality, making amends, and helping others by doing service (volunteering in the program). Men and women describe their lifestyles and downward spiralling before they discovered the FA program. The food plan is not included, nor is it ever written down. When a sponsor is acquired, the personalized food plan is given to the new member. Their food is weighed and measured and accountability is a must--first to oneself, the Higher Power, and to the sponsor. Meetings are attended three times a week at no cost, other than a voluntary donation, and many addicts talk about their weight loss as well as lowering other addictions they may have discovered.
In the back of the book are the 12 Steps with an explanation of how they work. This book is a go to for those who may have an addiction or for the ones they love. The key to maintaining the recovery has been known to be the recognition of respect for anonymity. It's almost like the Sixth Commandment not to kill. The inference is actually "murder," referring to character assassination. When a person is spoken about via gossiping, one is considered to be be murdering their personality, so anonymity protects them, and when all discussions at an FA meeting are done, the commitment is that they stay within those four walls.
Worthwhile reading to discover how recovery from any addiction works.
