Sera is a walking disaster. Kieran has no desire to entangle himself with disasters, walking or otherwise. Obligation forces them together. But genuine connection binds them irrevocably.Sera Blair's life is…a mess. She's spent her formative years wandering from one bad decision to another, a path that eventually leads her to the bedchamber of a powerful Winter Fae to steal a Charm for her boss—who will happily kill her if she fails. But Kieran North catches her all too easily and instead of letting her rot in a cell, he offers her protection. There has to be a catch. Kindness isn't free. Everyone expects payment from her eventually, but North never asks anything of her despite offering his home and assistance in ending the threat to her life. But even as desire blazes between them he's infuriatingly resistant to her advances. It's not possible that North is actually a decent person…is it?
Kieran North has one purpose in life. Serve others. To do this, he must sever all potential relationships and never grow to care about anyone. He's accepted his fate. It is a constant drain on his soul, but that cannot be helped. It is this very drive to serve others that backfires spectacularly when he's compelled to aid Miss Sera Blair, inviting her into his home to protect her from the monster he takes responsibility for unleashing. But she's turning his world upside-down. Pushing every boundary. Consuming his every thought. Driving him to the brink of insanity. If he allows himself to care, then her life will be at risk. Resisting her tests his well-practiced control like nothing before. But not falling in love might be insurmountable.
FROST AND FLAME is a steamy romance set in a Regency inspired fantasy world with delicious pining, touch-starved hero meets sexually experienced heroine, and two souls finding healing in each other.

"The merest touch of your hand is enough to completely disarm any sense of reason or logic." — Kieran North. 💚 Opposites attract 💚 Touch starved MMC × experienced FMC 💚 She tried to rob him! 💚 He’s the Winter Court fae leader 💚 Third person dual POV 💚 Forbidden romance 💚 Standalone First of all, I genuinely have no idea how I ended up with this ARC 💀 When I filled the form, I think I read a note that the book wouldn’t release until sometime in 2026. And yet here I am, ARC in hand since November 29th, and Goodreads claims it was already published on November 27th. So I don’t know whether this is an ARC review, a post pub review, or a cosmic accident??? To make it funnier, I went in completely blind. The author only share the trope map, so Frost and Flame was literary a blind date. And I am thrilled to report to you guys, the date went so well I’m ready to propose to this baddie for so many reasons 👰✨ : 1. THE NAMES. Bless the author for not naming her fae characters something like N’ztarhael the Galaxy Destroyer or Valeethus Moon Blood the Third. Instead we get Kieran, Cole, Willa. Simple. Readable. My tongue respect that deeply 🫡 2. THE TOUCH STARVED MMC. Holy!! Spaghetti!! Thank you so much for introducing me to Kieran 😳😳😳 This trope is everywhere in omegaverse, and normally I avoid it the way some people avoid durian (gag 🤢) because it often turns into body betrayal nonsense and I hate that with my entire soul 😮💨 But wow, here it ✨ works ✨. Turns out, I didn't hate it if it done to the male lead and written well 😋 Kieran’s touch starvation rooted in his loneliness, grief, and self isolation. It makes sense. It’s tragic. It made me scream and startle my cats. No regrets. He melts under her touch. She’s the one who knows what she’s doing. Now picture them meeting during a botched robbery. 3. ACCESSIBLE WORLD BUILDING. Frost and Flame is technically the second book in the Unity series, and I shamefully haven’t read the first yet (I will, I swear 😩) but don't worry, this one works perfectly as a standalone! Luci Briar doesn’t throw first time readers into confusion and walk away. She eases you into the world of Unity and explains each court, creature, and piece of magic naturally through the narrative, from the shining towers of Spare to the shadow corners of Demon Row. Prepare to meet fae of different courts, demons, grimms, and guardians 🧚😈🔮 Unfortunately, not all dates are perfect. I had a few things that bothered me during our time together. Yhe biggest issue is the internal monologues that felt ... A little too much 😬 There were moments where a conversation would stop mid flow, and suddenly I’d be staring at a two page monologue processing emotions and trauma. Then I had to scroll back just to remember what they were originally talking about because I accidentally zoned out. And this happened A LOT. Some side characters would really benefit from clearer backstories or development. Take Seth, for example. Sera’s “bro”, a Summer fae, orphaned and ... That’s all we get 😬 He felt more like a plot device, who meant to anchor Sera and act as her emotional leash rather than a fully formed character. We never get his backstory, how he ended up under Cole’s control, or how Sera even found him in the first place. Seth didn’t have any real impact on the story. He reads like an angsty teen who just ... Exists. Which was okay until around the 60% mark, once Sera and Kieran started developing their relationship, he gets tossed to another character through an insta love setup! And somehow he goes from adorable puppy to a full spoiled brat, yelling at Sera over someone he’s met TWICE. I'm sorry but what?? I honestly couldn’t bring myself care about him after that 🫠The author could’ve shifted his role to Gideon, Sera's twin bro, and nothing would’ve changed. I also think the book could’ve used more action. For a world that promises danger, politics, and chaos ... Sometimes it felt a little too safe. The fae here aren’t the ancient, battle scarred, riddle speaking beings you’d expect bcs they act like humans juggling work and college!!? There were moments where even Kieran felt like a regular politician than a powerful fae ruler because he wasn’t doing much besides talking. It’s interesting, sure, but it also takes away some of the fantasy edge. A bit more on page combat and magic displays would’ve helped keep that supernatural aura sharp👌 I'm kinda disappointed when nothing dramatic happened between Kieran and the villain during their first reunion. The tension was THERE. I was READY. And then … Nothing 😔 Lastly, and this is purely personal preference, I wish Kieran had been a virgin or at least a little more clueless. He’s been celibate for what, over ten years? And yet he performs like a seasoned romance novel deity like dude HOW 🙃 The author marketed Sera as the experienced one (and yes she is) but during some of the spicy scenes I genuinely forgot that was supposed to be their dynamic. I feel like romantasy authors today tend to shy away from writing soft, innocent (I'm not saying naive) or even slightly submissive MMCs, probably because shadow daddy with 500 years of bedroom wisdom is the market favorite right now. But hey, a little variation wouldn’t kill us 😉 Despite all of that, I really enjoyed this story. Lady Archer absolutely stole the spotlight for me. She gives me Wonder Woman energy (I’m a DC fan okay 😩) and she hooked me from her first scene 🔥My brain actyally went into overdrive imagining Lady Archer and Cordelia (a side character who clearly had an interest in her) in a sapphic situationship. But honestly whoever she ends up with, I won’t complain. I just NEED more of her. Can I keep my hopes up please? 🙏🥺 Huge thanks to Luci Briar for the eARC! 💚
This is book 2 in the world of Unity, where all manner of fae, humans, demons and grimm live together in not-quite harmony. BUT it can totally be a standalone, as I haven't read the first and didn't feel like I missed much at all aside from just curiosity. I received this book as an advanced copy and went in blind, but OMG. KIERAN!! And also the Wraith, but I'll get there.
Kieran is the fae leader of the Winter Court, loves all things cold, and he's basically an emotionless shell with horrible repressed trauma. He's touch-starved and stern, and with the white hair I was absolutely picturing Sesshoumaru. Yes, please. I also love when an ice cold MMC goes all melty for our FMC, and we got some AMAZING melty moments!
Sera is a freaking amazing FMC, one of my favorites so far. She's 34!!! What!!!! And she isn't a virgin!!! Quite the opposite, she has a difficult past and has had to rely on her looks and persuasion to survive as a human in a fae world. She's incredibly smart, like engineer smart, but grew up with a toxic mother who constantly made her question her own worth. She truly grows into herself throughout this book and it's such a relatable journey. She makes Kieran work for her trust, which just made me love her even more.
I know the Wraith is just a side character but he's such a mystery, a crime boss with standards. We don't see much of him aside from a few intimidating encounters, but I hope he gets his own story!! He's a grimm, and so gruff and pirate-y and honestly he sounds amazing.
So a lot of the side characters have potential, but they're not as fully formed as our main characters. They don't really impact the actual story a whole lot, but there's so much room to expand and so many more stories to tell in this world! The author actually had me curious about the architecture and what changes would be made to make some of these buildings sturdier haha.
I think that's the only thing that I would have liked to see more of in the epilogue. Sera has the ability to make sweeping changes to the infrastructure of Unity, so I wasn't terribly impressed by her big contribution to society. I wanted to hear about more of her accomplishments! But that's just personal preference. I will absolutely be waiting for Book 3!!
Sera Blair is a messy, resilient heroine whose past choices place her in real danger, while Kieran North, a powerful Winter Fae bound by duty and self-denial, is the perfect counterbalance. His quiet restraint and unwavering kindness make the slow burn and pining especially satisfying, particularly opposite Sera’s bold, experienced energy.
The Regency-inspired world adds charm without overwhelming the romance, and the chemistry feels both steamy and deeply earned. At its core, this is a story about healing, restraint, and choosing connection despite fear.
A great pick for fans of slow-burn fantasy romance, touch-starved heroes, and emotionally layered love stories. Mind the content warnings.
Before diving into this one, I went back and read Glimmer and Burn (Book 1), and I’m really glad I did—it made the world, characters, and fae politics feel even richer going into Frost and Flame.
The world-building is easy to follow, the magic and courts feel accessible, and the romance brings some great emotional depth. I especially loved the dynamic between a touch-starved, emotionally guarded MMC and a confident, experienced FMC, even though I found myself wishing for a bit more action and higher stakes at times.
Overall, this was a solid romantasy read and a series I’d happily continue; especially if we get more of Lady Archer 👀❄️🔥
LOVE, LOVE!! This gives cosy/wintery vibes. This fae romantasy reminds me a little of Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher — the humour and the ability to write dark themes with a lighter brushstroke.
I love our MFC. She is in a sucky situation, and though she thinks she is down, she is by no means out. She is a giver.
And MC — wow!! He has been written so well. The grief and responsibility that weigh on him really show. I love his character consistency and watching him thaw as the book progresses.
But what shone the most to me was the romance!!! The tension is tight, the moments are sweet and fiery. This reminds me of a regency novel at the time (in the best way)
What an exquisitely delicious book. From the beginning Sera and Kieran had me all wound up. I was hooked from the beginning. The world building was phenomenal. The description was just so well done. I could see everything going on. Feel what they were feeling. The tension was high in this one. I was literally in the edge of my seat turning pages waiting to go deeper and deeper. But Sera and Kieran were enough to make a person scream lol. There were so intense. The push and pull was too much. I fell in love with these two. This book. This story. I’m heading back to go read the first one now lol.
Omg I loved this! I hadn’t read book 1 yet, so I went into this completely blind and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to be so immersed in this world starting with book 2. I loved how Luci portrayed a world with humans and non-humans living almost seamlessly together. And I absolutely loved Kieran and Sera together. Kieran was the perfect amount of grumpy. I loved how their relationship blossomed through the book and how the spice was so perfectly done and fit so perfectly into the story. I will definitely go back and read book 1!
I received this as an ARC and the story does a great job of pulling you into this magical world. The characters further pull you in and keep you interested. The push and pull chemistry of will they or won’t they give in to each other has you screaming come on already but I didn’t mind that at all. When Kieran and Sera finally indulge themselves in each other it’s a delicious and hot pay off. I’d definitely be interested in reading any future books in this world.
You don’t need to read the first book to read this one, I would have thought it was the first if I didn’t know beforehand… However, reading this book made me want to go read the first because it is just sooo good!! Immediately you relate to the main character & fall in love with all of the rest. I couldn’t put it down & found myself thinking about it when I wasn’t able to actually read it! If you like fantasy, you will love this book!
I don't read fantasy much because not everyone can get it right; however, with this book I was drawn into this imaginary world because it felt so realistic.
Kieran is the fae leader, very reserved and stern. Sera, a more mature female, is human, experienced and smart. Their diverse personalities make them a perfect fit for each other. The push/pull chemistry of their growing relationship was interesting to see unfold.
Enjoyable read and I look forward to the next in series.
Oh I love regency Fae and human romance. I don't know why authors don't write more of it. This story is full of heart and made me excited for more. I can't wait for the next installment. The next book sounds exciting. I also love how you see the characters in each book you read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Enjoyed this more than expected. I'm not typically a romance reader, but the writing, characters, and plot more than carried my interest. Definitely recommend if you're still not sure if you'll enjoy fantasy romance.
