Rate this book
Four best friends. One accusation. No way out.

Tucker,, Theo, Trace, and Stacy have been inseparable since childhood--bound by loyalty, history, and trust that was never meant to break.

Then one accusation changes everything.

One of them is facing prison.
The evidence is stacked.
And the truth might not matter.

But they know him.
They trust him.

So if he's innocent...
someone else is lying.

What starts as a search for answers gturns into something far more dangerous. Because the deeper they dig, the clearer it becomes--

The system won't save him.

So they make a choice.

Protect their own...
no matter the cost.

Because if the lie doesn't destroy them...
what they do to stop it will.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC read, but the opinions are all my own.

I went into this blind and truly did not know it was a poly relationship story so that was interesting to discover mid read. This book really is an emotional whirlwind. The first 60 pages it had me kinda struggling with the topic so I’d definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings.

Spoilers below:

As a woman it’s tough to read a story that touches on the subject of rape and a story based on a woman that lies about it. Although I don’t believe that happens often at all and I am inclined to always believe a woman who is a victim of rape, it was hard to read from the young man’s perspective and see how his life was being ruined over a girls religious fear.

This book touches on religious beliefs, morally gray solutions to problems, and some really intense emotions from the characters. The ending was predictable to me, and the story has a lot of smut, but there are also moments of really vulnerable emotions that were sweet between all the characters and in the end, I love a HEA.

Broken Book Therapist Reviews

The vibes of this.... whew. Having grown up in a world that absolutely would have treated someone the way Tucker was treated, I so get this. The vows, the demands for marriage, the expectations... but I don't think anyone would have fought for me the way Trace, Theo, and Stacy did. This was raw and impulsive in a way only available to the age range they are in, but it works so well. As a therapist, do I think they all will need therapy eventually because they have some things to process as they age, yep.... but do I get how they would not see that until then, absolutely lol. Also, I really want a 15 year later sequel!

Well that was messy!

Tucker, Theo, Trace, and Stacy have been best friends since childhood—but their feelings have always been anything but simple. Stacy fell for Tucker, Theo fell for Stacy, and everything between them is tangled.

When one lie threatens to send one of them to prison, the others are faced with an impossible choice: kill the liar or lose everything?

As they spiral toward a decision, their friendships blur into something deeper, forming a complicated, forbidden poly bond in a small Bible Belt town where love like theirs isn’t accepted.

Emotional, messy, and intense—this story proves that sometimes chosen family means everything.

Tucker is accused of a lie and while dealing with the police and the pending court hearing he is ostracized by almost the whole town. Tuckers 3 best friends Trace, Theo, and Stacy all try to figure out a way for them to get the actual truth told, so Tucker can go to college and potentially the NFL. All while realizing they all want to be more than friends and wondering how to make a group relationship work.

This book is a Small Christian Town, best friends to lovers, why choose, with an hea.

This is a MFMM, polyamorous read with some subject matter that maybe hard for some readers. Please read trigger warnings!

M. C. Stokes done it again with another fantastic book that had me up all night reading! This book, and the characters were written well, the storyline had me hooked and held my attention. This book is based on high school, however the characters are all 18. M. C. is definitely one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read more of her books! If you are looking for a raw, emotional, and somewhat spicy read then I would recommend giving this a shot!

I am a sucker for a girl who never has to choose between multiple good options. A girl who is a ride or die for her friend circle. A girl who knows no boundary when it comes to protecting her family.

Stacy was that girl, and she was amazing. She helped Tucker, Theo, and Trace work through each other own issues, and helped them all become true versions of themselves.

This book touches on a subject that may be triggering for some readers, so definitely check the TWs before diving in.

Tucker, Theo, Trace, and Stacey have been friends for years, and when Tucker is hit with a lie that shatters his entire world, his friends never hesitate. They believe him instantly and stand beside him without question, the kind of loyalty most people can only hope to experience.

At the beginning of the book, my whole heart went out to Tucker. He is perfect in every way that matters, and yet one lie is enough to send his life into a tailspin. The way he continues to carry himself, even while breaking internally, was both heartbreaking and beautiful.

His friends are willing to do anything to protect him, and while I’m glad they didn’t make the choice they were tempted to, their desperation shows just how deep their love for him runs. That same bond becomes what allows each of them to open up and be vulnerable. Going from friends to something more is terrifying enough… but navigating feelings within a group of four? It’s a whole new level of fear.

I loved how the group comes together as a whole, but I also appreciated the individual couple moments. Those quieter, intimate scenes were necessary to cement each relationship and make the emotions feel real. Every person brings something unique to the dynamic, their fears, their strengths, their softness, their fire, and it all blends into a connection that feels both fragile and powerful.

This story is emotional, intense, and full of heart. It’s about love, loyalty, fear, and the courage it takes to choose each other even when everything feels like it’s falling apart. By the end, I felt every ounce of what these characters carried , and I loved watching them find something beautiful on the other side of the pain. I received an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This whole time, it should’ve been you.
