"I was a mother first, a wife second"
"I care for my wives; I do. But I - not like this. Not like you. "
He returned to his desk chair. “Underground railroad. It’s a term that dates back to the Civil War when whites would help slaves escape to the north so they could be free.”
Myth: Most of the “workers” on the Underground Railroad were white abolitionists.
Truth: In fact, most people who helped escaping slaves were free blacks or escaped slaves. Here I am back to the Compound ad after the shock of the first story in the series I can say that I've really enjoyed this book that sucked me in since the beginning and kept me on my toes until the last page.
I love the main character,Aspen, because she is a strong woman that doesn't stop fighting for the wellness of her children.
Thank you to Melissa Brown to deliver this amazing story with her superb writing.
