You know life’s getting complicated when crash landing on an unknown planet becomes the least of your worries.
I’ve spent most my adult life avoiding flesh and blood attachments. Life’s easier without another heart to care for. So, when the Gateway Federation asks me to retrieve a mysterious pod from a lethal asteroid belt, the last thing I expect is to end up on the run with a feral male who needs to rut, feed, and fight every four weeks, and a mech angel, who looks at me with stars in his eyes.
Okay, so I may have stolen the pod, and the mech angel may have been inside it, but heck, Gateway should know better than to trust a breacher who lives by the motto of finders keepers.
Now I’m having to play buffer between my robo dog and my ship, while they argue over karaoke tracks, as well as doing my best to avoid getting attached to the two overpowering males onboard my vessel.
Crash landing on an unknown planet is simply the icing on the cake.
Join Nova, our badass heroine in this Why Choose Space Romantasy adventure, filled with banter, action, and just the right amount of yearning.
Debbie Cassidy lives in England, Bedfordshire, with her three kids and very supportive husband. Coffee and chocolate biscuits are her writing fuels of choice, and she is still working on getting that perfect tower of solitude built in her back garden. Obsessed with building new worlds and reading about them, she spends her spare time daydreaming and conversing with the characters in her head. She writes Urban Fantasy, Romance, Fantasy and Reverse Harem Fantasy. All her books contain plenty of action, romance and twisty plots.
The Darkest Stars is a fast paced and action packed story that follows Nova and the merry band of misfits she acquires as she wreaks havoc across multiverse trying to escape the Gateway.
I’m not typically a sci-fi girly and wasn’t too sure what I was getting myself into with this one, but holy cannoli Batman what a ride! & that ending!!! I cannot wait for book 2!
Cassidy returns with a banger that I could not put down . Her latest book introduces to us to new world full of mystery and secrets that will please any fan of this genre . It's fast pace novel with the story of Nova and her high flying adventures. There is a lot to unpack at the start as Nova isn't a push over and whilst the pieces slowly start to come together about her abilities and the her upbringing . She is in many ways a unknown force and there is lot to understand. There is a lot of different characters and races in this novel and Cassidy took the slowness with the relationships and leaving it on a slow burn level as we are thrown through the universe and land into the unknown. Cassidy set up this series well and can't wait for the next instalment.
I really enjoy Debbie cassidy as an author. I think she writes great book. this was no different. if you are looking for a sci-fi romance involving adventure and romance then this book is for you! this was out of my preferred genre as I wanted to branch out with an author I like. still deciding if I will continue the series because Debbie cassiy is a favorite author of mine.
Prepare to go into deep space with this new space opera romance series because I can't get enough of it already! She was in prison, but got an early release. There's a catch, right? You bet there is! The catch? Protect your former fellow prisoner, and oh, go to this really dangerous area of the galaxy and retrieve something for us. No big deal. Just do the job, and we'll let you go...for now. Well, she does the job, but...things go south...of course! Cue the drama, the chaos, the fun, and the delicious heat that is incoming!! If you love this author then you're not going to want to miss out on this new series! When is book two coming again? LOL
Well hello darling planets, I traversed deep space, survived incarceration, avoided hairy moments, all with some really fierce friends and came out shining and smiling on the other side. And wanting more...
First off, there's Nova, imprisoned in a max security, cutthroat facility where the guards think they're 'gods'. They do what they want, when they want. Especially a t*at called Jeba. Fighting to an inch of one's life is the norm, only taking a life is frowned upon. Not by the guards, the governor....but the inmates are pitted against each other and Nova drew the short straw. Which, in hindsight, turned out to be a blessing. Or did it... Hunky HUGE Naxon prevents a disaster from being dealt to Nova and appoints himself her personal bodyguard. So far, so clear.... simple math isn't it? BUT... this is Ms Debbie Cassidy we're talking about, she throws curveballs and boomerangs that I'm ducking and diving for my life! And oh heck did I get hit plenty of times, I didn't know which direction what was going to be hurled my way!
Nova is a thief, an excellent one but one teensy mistake had her incarcerated. For 6 months. A loner, a woman who trusts no one and nothing, a woman who has no friends, well, except for Kai and Destiny but they aren't really friend friends, one is a mech dog, the other her ship. Both are sentient, both are more than merely AI, they really care for Nova, as much as she does for them. The tale slowly opens up to a gruesome past for Nova, one she escaped from. Or so she thought. I loved these 3 so much, their bond, AI, human or whatever, is extra special. I adored Nova's "twist" a latent something she's taken great lengths to keep hidden. She's so strong and so vulnerable, she's a character I just wanted to wrap my arms around and hug her to smithereens. So compelling a character, the author brings her right into my heart! But heck, then Ms Cassidy has me evading astroid hits with WHAT she presented, unexpected just sounds trite, this was revelation after revelation "ooooo" and "noooooo!" and "it's can't be!" But it all is exactly all of that! My head was spinning, my heart was pounding, my nerves were shattered and I relished every single emotion!
Then, we get even more awesomeness, we get a cute spider mech who, for reasons unknown to Nova, attaches itself to her, helps her. Aaaaand, we meet Drax, aaaand we meet Gabriel aaaaand I'm in heaven, or close enough, I'm flying all over the galaxy, avoiding some very nasty "government" officials, whose agenda is shady to say the least. I almost swallowed my tongue when I, together with Nova, discovered "something" about Naxon, whoa!!! Intricate, exceptionally riveting storytelling and more bombshells than a littered minefield. This read just confirms how WELL Ms Cassidy can suck me into any book, she honestly brings everything to life, makes me believe every single word and event and has my knickers so twisted, the wedgie is painful. Her storytelling is anything but, her supreme talent has me going through it all. Together with Nova, rooting for Kai, desperate for Destiny to survive. Which, in effect, is the crux of this book, survival, growth, and a realisation that not everything, or anyone, is who they appear to be. Nova, Naxon, Drax and Gabriel, a cool glimpse of who they are is about to unravel, going for truth, going back into the shark's jaw, together. I cannot wait to see how and what will happen next!
The way this author contorts her plot is magnificent. She lets me believe one thing, I settle in nicely, comfortably and then she tosses me into a maelstrom of murky, turbulent and fetish waters. I did say magnificent but shoot WAS IT MAGNIFICENT!
I’ll be honest — sci-fi is not usually my genre. I tend to steer clear of space settings and futuristic tech, but The Darkest Stars completely changed my perspective. Debbie Cassidy didn’t just pull me into a sci-fi world; she made me care about it, and more importantly, about the people fighting to survive inside it. From the very beginning, Nova’s story is a wild ride. Thrown headfirst into chaos, danger, and impossible choices, her introduction grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Nova is sharp, guarded, and fiercely independent — the kind of FMC who has learned the hard way that relying on others is a risk. Watching her navigate a mission that spirals far beyond expectations makes for an adrenaline-fueled opening that instantly hooked me. What truly elevates this story is Debbie Cassidy’s ability to layer complexity into every aspect of the narrative. The plot delivers action and tension, but it’s the emotional undercurrent that lingers. Nova’s internal struggle — between survival and connection, fear and yearning — is beautifully written and deeply relatable. There’s a constant pull toward something more, and that yearning keeps you turning pages long after you meant to stop. Cassidy also shines in the way she writes her side characters. They are never just background noise or convenient plot devices. Each one feels intentional, with their own motivations, personalities, and emotional weight. Their interactions with Nova add depth, tension, and unexpected softness, enriching the story in ways that make the world feel alive and layered. By the end, I found myself genuinely surprised — not only by how invested I was, but by how much I wanted more. More of Nova. More of this universe. More of the complex relationships still unfolding. The Darkest Stars isn’t just a great sci-fi romance; it’s a testament to Debbie Cassidy’s talent for crafting stories that pull readers outside their comfort zones and leave them eager for what comes next. If you’re someone who usually avoids sci-fi like I do, consider this your sign. This book just might change your mind.
Our fmc Nova is such a bada$$. She is courageous, brave, a bit bratty and I love her even more for that. Her past is a bit of a mystery and she has a few secrets...
Our mmc's are Naxon and Gabriel. Naxon is beautiful, kind of intimidating, and a protective feral. Gabriel is also protective, but in a very different way, caring, intelligent and questions everything. There may be more mmc's coming but i'm not entirely sure yet. We'll have to wait and see i think.
I really liked the plot. Nova is initially in prison with Naxon and she is let go to complete a mission. Little did she realise that she would be stuck on said mission with Naxon, the feral that she met in Prison. Whilst on the mission, Gabriel is brought in and Nova starts feeling things for both men. Nova, Gabriel and Naxon go on quite a journey to escape Gateway (a not so great company that governs the galaxies) and the bond that forms between the 3 is slow but so sweet and just real. Nova doesn't really know what to do about it or acknowledge what it is. Nova's past and choices come back to bite them in the bum but they do manage to figure some things out, it just gets a bit messy...
When everything seems to settle and a plan is formed, Nova learns that someone close has betrayed her and her true identity is sort of revealed but that leads to more questions rather than answers. I have so many questions, i'm starting to pieces things together but i'm missing something.
Shout out to Kai and Destiny, i love you both, your the best!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I can't wait for book 2 😊
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 🌶
🚀 bada$$ fmc 🚀 why choose 🚀 forced proximity 🚀 so many secrets and lies 🚀 mech angel love interest 🚀 sentient ship 🚀 slow burn 🚀 space missions 🚀 found family 🚀 cute Robo dog and ship 🚀 sci- fi romance
I love pretty much all of Debbie Cassidy's books, I also really love the Traveller RPG. And this felt like a great combination of both.
The start of the book is a bit confusing because we really don't know anything about the world our FMC Nova lives in and I think that the author didn't want to give us a huge info dump. But it wasn't difficult to follow with the bits of information we get.
The story starts with Nova in a prison, we don't know how she got there but we know that she uses her fathers name to stay safe there. Nova really is a badass with a lot of confidence and the brains to know when to keep her head down. Nova gets early release from the prison and while they let her go she knows they will want something in return. She's barely back out in space with her sassy AI ship called destiny and her grumpy AI dog called Kai when she gets the call from the Gateway Federation. They want her to keep someone safe and they also want her to pick up a pod from a dangerous asteroid belt, a pod that could possibly be sold for a huge amount of money. From there so many things happen and we learn a lot; from mysterious powers, to possible corruption, to an undiscovered planet.
So much happens in this book that is only 200 pages long. Which is my only complaint, the book is too short. At one point so many things happen in such a short amount of time that we dont really get to realise what happens. It would've been nice if the story slowed down a bit in between those moments.
All in all I really love the story and I read it in one evening. I hope the next one will have some slow moments in between the action to see some bonding between the characters.
This is book 1 in the newest series by the amazing Debbie Cassidy . It's a space adventure with a touch of romance; which looks like it will be heating up in book 2!!
Nova (our FMC) was brought up among space pirates, and she learned things the hard way. She’s tough, smart, and she cares about her crew. Her snappy attitude shows just how much she cares for them while giving her an added depth to her personality and makes her so relatable. Used to working alone, she collects a few new crew members along the way.
Two other characters that had me lol-ing were Kai, a mech-bot, and Destiny, the ship's AI. They bickered like siblings and I was there for it! Absolutely loved their dynamic. This group of misfits are just trying to survive in space. Theres an amazing "found family" feeling where they’ve got each other's backs when things get crazy. Though everyone has their own agenda, and nobody is telling their full story.
It’s an action-packed read that just keeps you on your toes. One minute they’re dealing with a mechanical issue, and the next they’re in the middle of a high-stakes escape. I couldn’t get enough!! I can not wait for the next book to see how the adventure continues.
The Darkest Stars: Darkest Star by Debbie Cassidy is an engaging space opera/science fiction romance that I was unable to put down once I started reading. It's a fairly short read and I finished in under a day. This story takes place in an alternate reality where there are many galaxies and races traveling through space. Nova has spent her life keeping people away and has two best friends that are AI Destiny, her ship, and Kai, her mech dog u til.she.finds herself.traveling with Naxxon,Gabe, Drax. As the group gets into scrape after scrape of near misses and escapes, Nova begins to find a place for her new group of friends. However when new discoveries and betrayals are made, what can Nova do and who can she trust as she tries to figure out the truth. I loved this book. Great world-building that had a sense of realism to it. All characters were well developed and I enjoyed getting to know them. This story has action, betrayal, surprises, interesting tech, advanced AI, chases through space, found family, slow-burn low-heat romance. This story ends on a slight cliffhanger but there are a few themes that I suspect will have an over-reaching ARC through the series. I cannot wait for the next book in there
This is definitely something new from the hands and mind of this author, but I really loved it! I don’t read enough sci fi romances, because I truly love the genre. The different planets, the travels through space, the spaceships and different species, … I love it all! And “The Darkest Stars” didn’t disappoint. Although I have to admit the writing felt a little different at first, compared to what I’m used to from this author, but once I got through that feeling I really started to enjoy the story.
This first book is written in the fmc’s single POV, so we really got to know Nova better. Still, with how little she knows about herself it feels like many layers are still left to discover in the future. Her past has left her a little jaded, but even though she built walls around her heart, the heart itself is still solid and big. It just takes a little time for her to show it. At this point I wouldn’t say I love her, but I like her. The men are a little harder to pinpoint. There are some revelations at the end and lots of unanswered questions about their past I want to know more about before picking favorites. Without a doubt, I’m looking forward to book two!
I would say this is the fastest start I’ve had to one of this author’s first in series. Not because others were slow, but because this author is a world builder and excellent in character development. This book however doesn’t have as much world building up front, but it’s not a bad thing.
When you are setting up a world that exists within a multiverse, building will come with each new world explored. This is a fascinating departure and I’m here for it. Characters building is on pace and while Nova makes me want to float her a couple of times, it’s good writing that pulls these emotions.
Nova is the adopted daughter of a fearsome space pirate who has struck out on her own, only to end up in prison. After facing down a Feral and befriending(?) him, Nova finds herself walking free.
This fast-paced read has left me ready for more. There wasn’t a typical heart stopping cliff hanger at the end, but, there’s so much mystery and intrigue built up, I’m ready to see what happens next. I also have high hopes that as Nova has start depending on others, her outlook on life and reckless selfishness will begin to shift into something a little more outward facing.
Nova luck has finally run out and I mean literally in the far future in space you can actually buy from an alchemist “luck” but Novas had run out and it was 7 months in jail. While they could not actually kill a prisoner they could have their fun with her and not the kind of fun any of us would enjoy. And of course, Nova just had to tick off one the guards. This is what happens when Nova having been raised by pirates and trying to fit in takes a challenge and luck runs out. What is the thing that Nova has that comes out to help her? She trying to keep hidden so they don’t try and figure out in the laboratory what it is! I enjoyed how Feral is going to defend and protect her. This author has a woven a great sci-fi story of different galaxies and species. Of course, they allow Nova out early she barely gets on her AI ship Destiny with her AI dog Kai when the Gateway Federation calls in the “favor”. What is the pod she has to retrieve and who is she to keep safe? The characters are all unique and I love how they all interact with each other. I am really waiting for the next book to see how they all come together. You will really enjoy this author.
OMG yes! The queen that is author, Debbie Cassidy, has moved to sci-fi, and she does it so freaking well. I have been a long-time fan of the author, and can literally devour anything she writes, and this really hit the spot.
Nova doesn't like connections with real people; that's obvious by the fact that her dog, Kai, is a machine and, other than him, the only other person she has to talk to is the artificial intelligence on her shipDestiny. After a short stint in prison, fighting for her life, she is sent on a mission with an ex-prisoner who suddenly turns up. The Gateway Federation has a mission for her, and she doesn't really get a choice but to accept.
We do pick up another character on the way, but I won't tell you who or what that is. However, I admit, closer to the end of the book, his name was mentioned, and I did have to do a small "wait, who?" until it hit me who was being talked about. Also, the banter between Kai and Destiny is hilarious, and I love those two. Their conversations left me giggling every time.
It's action-packed and definitely slow on the burn, but I loved every minute of it, can't wait for the next one.
This action packed story combines the futuristic setup and sci-fi world in the universe with unknown magic called arcana that gives the book a fantasy vibe. It is a mixture of various races, lots of mechanical constructs with AI blended with conciousness, and one badass heroine used to work on her own. Nova was raised by space pirates, which naturally shaped her career path and landed her in prison as well. However, when she escapes and gets a dangerous assignment from the Gateway, only then the real fun starts. Space escapades lead her to a hidden planet where multiple secrets are starting to get uncovered, and maybe it holds more answers than it looks at the first sight.. The book also has quite a nice chemistry in there, sparks flying even when no action follows. The action part of the book is accentuated by the strong emotions that even lead to reckless behavior - but that makes the story only more dramatic and suspenseful. I am thrilled to have started Nova's story and cannot wait for more!
Debbie Cassidy continues to impress! This may be my new favorite next to her “Gargoyles” series. Nova is a certified bad babe, with some serious “lone wolf vibes” apart from her more than simply mechanical ship and mech dog. Again I love how this author surrounds her characters with such a vibrant and compelling cast, so much so that you’re as enthralled by them as you are Nova. They all feel like they could just step off the page and into reality. I appreciate a bad babe heroine who is more than a little broke too, with plenty of secrets of her own. She’s multi faceted and anything but a “mary sue.” Debbie Cassidy stands above her peers in her ability to craft a truly unique and intricate storyline that balances remarkable twists and turns without making the reader feel overwhelmed or frustrated. Her prose is beautiful. And what a breath of fresh air it is to take a bite out of a Sci Fi Romance! It’s funny, it’s got heart, it’s got heart-pounding action! You’ll be at the edge of your seat the whole way! Absolutely brilliant and well worth the read!
When your only friends are your ship's AI and a robot dog....
Well, at least you know they'll be okay while you rot in lock up on the prison planet. But the next thing you know, you're getting out early, but first you need to do a job for the Gateway. So what if you decide to keep the mech angel you retrieved for yourself. The feral you met in prison is now your responsibilty to keep safe by order of the Gateway, too. You'll just ditch them as soon as you can. You know how the Gateway will treat you now that the job's done and you have zero interest in that. On the run with the cargo, you crash land on a planet that somehow is familiar for some of your rag tag team. Your ship is gone, and you need to find a new one, lets just hope you all survive to make it off planet.
Slowburn, sort of enemies to start, heroine who doesn't know where she comes from with an unknown power. FMC has been hurt so won't let anyone close.
The Darkest Stars by Debbie Cassidy book 1 in Darkest Star series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💀💀🌶🌶 Star trek, Firefly fans will definitely enjoy reading this exhilarating start to a new series by Debbie Cassidy. World building enormous, plot filled with intrigue and character development is exciting. What more do you need for the beginning of, I am sure will be, brilliant sci fi. Oh maybe, a tiny mech spider pet. Lol! Zooming across the galaxy, avoiding pirates, escaping the Gateway menace and crash landing on an unknown planet. Nova handles all of this with air of non chalant but inside she's freaking out as Naxan is going in rage, filled with guilt over lying to Gabriel, Kia is unconscious and they need a ship for Destiny. With all of that Nova needs answers. I can't wait for book 2. Tropes Single POV. Aliens. Space travel. Trauma. Unknown powers. Big small. Slow burn. Quotes “Out you come, kid, and bring the booty.” “He means me, doesn’t he?” Gabe said. My throat pinched. “Yeah. But we’ll figure something out. We’ll find a way to escape.” Gabe turned his head to look down at me. “No, we won’t. But you can. Take your moment and run, Nova. Get away from this place that brings terror to your eyes.” In that moment, there was just him and me— a frightened woman and a machine I’d lied to and planned to betray. How the tide had turned because, right now, the idea of leaving him behind was a physical pain in my chest.
I do enjoy Sci-fi but this was actually exceptional. From the first page, meeting Nova on a prison planet where she was trying to avoid the fights set up by the prison guards for the prisoners and guards entertainment, I was hooked. Nova is a loner, just exists on her own with her ships AI and her robot dog but all that changes when she is released from prison early but with conditions attached. Tasked with keeping Naxon, who was a fellow prisoner, safe and also having to risk her life retrieving a mysterious pod from an asteroid belt, this is the start of an incredible adventure. I loved the mix of characters in this story and already we are seeing character development especially with Nova as she seems to be showing signs of forming attachments which it is clear is out of character for her! It is super slow burn, but there are signs that we are going to see more feelings of a romantic nature evolve in the future and I can't wait!
The Darkest Stars by Debbie Cassidy is the start of a new series that is unfolding in a futuristic universe. We are talking AI robots and starships, robot-human hybrids, different alien races, dark matter, multidimensions, quantum physics, magic and science working hand in hand, and different magic-like skills.
The story focuses on Nova, a loyal, smart, and fierce heroine who finds herself exactly where she never wanted to be: hunted by the Gateway Federation for a stolen artifact and fighting to stay away from the men surrounding her.
Kai and Destiny's banter is really funny. The plot is getting more and more interesting. The spice level is just the right amount.
Sci-fi romantasy It's not my usual type, but I decided to give it a try since it's written by one of my favorite authors, and I have zero regrets. I can't wait to see what more adventures await Nova and her crew.
To have one of my favourite authors dipping their toes into one of my favourite genres has me completely giddy!
I love Debbie and her series, but this one is creeping up there with my favourites!
As usual the world building is astounding, but what really made this exciting was the plot and the character dynamics.
Every character is important and this is the first time in a while where the FMC is not my favourite - the banter between Kai and Destiny - Mechbot and AI just had me snorting like a pig on the bus! They are my joint favourite characters.
With a sense of found family, you go on a journey with realistic relationships - people who care for each-other and obviously so, but each with their own secrets and agendas.
I am excited to see where these secrets lead us and hope Nova makes it out the other side of the proverbial wormhole intact when everything goes supernova!
This story starts off with nonstop action and drama. It quickly pulls me in as we meet Nova. She is this strong and feisty woman that doesn’t back down even when odds are against her. Soon we meet Naxon who is a giant of a man. You quickly learn to like him as he has these protective instincts that definitely shine quickly in the story. With Naxon, Destiny, Kia, and Gabe at her side we experience a world that will have you awestruck. They have issue after issue and you absolutely are excited to walk the journey with them. The story is extremely well written and developed. The descriptions are vivid that you can easily picture the world around you. The end of this book does end in a pretty big cliffhanger that has me absolutely excited to see what is going to happen next. Absolutely a must read that doesn’t disappoint.
I love this new sci-fi series from Debbie Cassidy. FMC Nova was found and raised by a notorious space pirate and his crew. A woman of many talents, most of which skirt the wrong side of the law, Nova has found herself serving a prison sentence, she may or may not have deserved. She's ready to make a break for it with the help of her newly acquired Feral accomplice. Nova's whole life has been about trying to survive and stay free. However, after finding herself in the "possession" of a mech-angel that calls to her in ways she doesn't understand, she's drawn to find out who she is, where she came from and why she is so drawn to the mechanical man. She picks up a ragtag crew that have the potential to grow into love interests...? This book is low/no burn, but the potential is there, and I can't wait to see where it goes. Great book!
I typically don't read space romance, but Debby Cassidy is a one click author for me, so I have it a try. I was not disappointed in the least.
Nova is the FMC and she's been thrown in prison for a minor infraction. While there, she meets a Feral named Naxon.
She's released from prison to a a job for the Gateway, and low and behold, she ends up with a ride along. She's used to it just being her, her ship Destiny and her mech dog Kai, so she has to adjust to her new normal. When the job goes sideways, she has to make decisions based on how it affects others, which she's not used to.
Watching the relationships develop between her and the others is intense. This book is packed with action, suspense and lots of banter. This is a slow burn, but so worth it!!! I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!!!
What immediately drew me into this book was the unique sci-fi edge. The world-building is incredibly immersive, creating a high-stakes atmosphere that feels both fresh and intense.
However, the real standout for me was the character building. My heart really went out to Nova; she has had such a difficult life, and you can truly feel the weight of everything she’s been through and how she struggles to keep everyone out. It makes her growth and her "baddie" moments even more satisfying to watch.
Naxon was another favorite of mine. He’s such a complex, badass character that adds so much to the story. Nova needed this character to make her feel safe.
If you're looking for a sci-fi read that balances great action with characters you genuinely care about, I highly recommend picking this up.
The Darkest of Stars is a fast paced and entertaining sci fi romantasy that drops you straight into chaos. Nova is a hardened breacher who avoids emotional attachments at all costs, until a stolen pod, a dangerous job for the Gateway Federation, and a disastrous crash landing change everything. On the run through space, Nova is forced into close quarters with Naxon, a feral yet honorable warrior, and a mech angel whose loyalty challenges her carefully built walls. Each mission goes wrong in the best way, pushing Nova further from the quiet life she wants and deeper into dangerous connections she never planned to make. With sharp banter, strong action, and a found family dynamic that shines, The Darkest of Stars is an addictive start to a why choose space romantasy that leaves you eager for the next book.
With Sci-fi not being one of my preferred genres to read I might have to give that a second thought as I was captivated with the storyline. I found it to have a perfect combination of not only sci-fi but some fantasy and of cause romance.
The main female character is fiesty and witty just like I like them but the author does show her vulnerabilities and gives the reader a better understanding in why she chooses to live her life the way she does.
With not wanting to give any spoilers away lets just say the rest of the supporting characters are very unique from a mech angel abtly named Gabriel, Kae the AI canine and Destiny the customized, top of the range Corvette.I can't wait to read more about them in the second book The Brightest Night
This book explores sensitive themes and readers discretion is advised.
First off, I’m head over heels for this cover and I need it on my bookshelf…Second, I am OBSESSED with this story, I read it overnight and I’m not disappointed on missing out on sleep… This is like every show on sci-fi that I’ve ever loved mixed with my favorite genre of book romance… I am so here for it! I didn’t even mind that it’s a slow burn… I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2 because there are so many things happening and I’m overwhelmed, but it’s in the best way possible! I’m hoping one day there will be character art because I would love to see Kai and Rex in art form… Of course the main characters too… But those two are my favorites right now! This book is definitely a reason why Debbie Cassidy is a one click purchase author for me… I guess I’ll just be over here impatiently waiting for book 2 to come out…
This is a fast paced book that has it all true to Debbie's style. I absolutely love Nova and her band of misfits she lets into her inner circle even though she tries so hard to convince herself that she doesn't need friends. She causes all sorts of chaos all over the galaxy trying to escape the Gateway due to the very precious cargo she stole. But this cargo holds the answers to her secret power that she has tried to keep hidden. We are left with a small cliffy but it doesn't wreck you and you knew this was exactly where the story was headed. This is a bit of a slow burn but I know it will heat up like Debbie's books always do in the next one. I can't wait to see the relationships build between Nova, and her men. They will help her heal from her past and be even more of a BA.
The Darkest Stars is the first book in a new series by Debbie Cassidy. All I can say is fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride. This is a fast paced action book that keeps you engaged in reading until the very last page and wanting for more. I loved the FMC and I found her to be very strong willed and determined to keep her friends safe. I loved the Sci-Fi setting... Look Out Star Wars... Because here comes Nova and her witty charming band of misfits and her faithful Companion Kai. Kai is a cool character and I loved his attitude towards a certain AI character named Destiny. Their quips back and forth had me laughing more then a few times. So, if you are into Space Travel, Artificial Intelligence, A Sassy Snarky FMC, Devoted Mech-Bots then I guarantee that this is the book for you.
