I'm a sucker for these kind of stories. It's a slow burn between two unlikely love-interests, and the mutual respect and understanding between Kael and Korvak is honestly a nice change of pace from the "human woman gets taken by [Insertrandomhumanoidmalehere] by force". Definitely recommend it if you're into this type of romantasy.

I am so conflicted on rating this book. I would rate the story at a 4 because it really was a good story and I really enjoyed it. My problem and the low rating I gave it stems from the complete lack of editing.
The beginning of the book (the first 1/3) was great and I didn't find any major errors. Then everything started slipping. At one point there was an entire section that was written twice, in two different ways, one was obviously not deleted before the book was published. The chapters, which have the name of the characters whose point of view it is, are mislabeled or just blank. There were sentences that were started and then just ended with a new paragraph without actually finishing the sentence. There were also plot holes toward the end and references made to things that happened that did not actually take place in the book or maybe the author forgot to write about it.
Really, the second half of the book was the biggest disappointment, it kind of fell apart. It really bummed me out because, like I said, the story was good. This author should really consider having this book edited (I'm convinced it has not even had a first edit) and have a proper read of it, the errors are glaring.

For me, this is a 5 star for a few reasons.
1- The MFC isn't a shrinking violet but a true fighter who doesn't quit fighting even when she's beaten.
2-The MMC doesn't try to break her when he discovers who she is and he claims her. He feeds her strength and gives her the power of choice, then he devours her. 😉
3-Plenty of action, betrayal, lies, outright cowardice, pure bravery and patient romance made this an all around great story.
Ends in a HFN.

I enjoyed the story. Kael and Korvak are sweet and we sure do love a consent king. However, it was obvious that AI was used to edit and potentially write some scenes. Which is very disappointing. I refuse to support AI, especially when it comes to books. I'll now be reevaluating everything I want to read or have on my TBR. I want to read the rest of the books in this series. But I just can't support AI usage.

Strong and steady!
I stumbled upon this book by accident and I'm so glad I did! This book is about a fierce, strong FMC and the orc who is determined to win her over because he loves her strength and determination. It's a slow burn, but not in a painful way. You really get to feel how their feelings grow and when the spice hits...whew! I can't wait to dive into the rest of the series!

Well written with the heroine dressed up as a male soldier for 5 years to eacape an arranged marriage. She along with other grunts were left behind while the leadership "vanished" when the orc army attacked. SMH.

Amazing
Loved this story. It sucked me in from the beginning. Loved the battle scenes and how real they felt. I wish it was longer. The only thing I noticed was that there was a whole passage that was repeated that needs to be edited out.

This was a really good read. I appreciated how representations can ber misleading & downright untrue. Loved the hardness & gentleness of the MMC. And truly appreciated the FMC. I will definitely finish out the series.

I wish it had been longer
A gritty beginning turns into something real and chosen with this couple. The story was really interesting though some editing needs to be done for some repetition errors. The FMC was strong and took no crap, just how I like ‘em haha
