Through a series of surprising twists of fate, in 2023 Koula was finally able to reclaim her passion for writing.

There are so many wonderful poems here that half of the pages are dogearred so I can find my favorites with ease. The final poem “breathe” was exactly what I needed to hear in this troubled time.

This poetry collection is a quiet, heartfelt reflection on life, love, and the immigrant experience in all its complexity. It speaks to the difficulty of starting over, the loneliness and uncertainty that come with it, but also to the deep satisfaction that arrives when persistence finally begins to bear fruit. The poems feel lived-in, shaped by real moments of doubt, hope, exhaustion, and renewal.
What stands out most is the way the collection embraces every kind of love: romantic love, love for family and friends, love for one’s past self, and the slow, learned love for a new place that may never fully replace the old one. Growth and evolution are constant threads throughout, showing how change is rarely sudden, but instead happens quietly, through feeling, reflection, and time. For me, these poems were much like eating a delicious chocolate cake. You want to savor each bite! I’d read one or two and savor the feeling before going back in for more. I always watch to make sure that I’m taking time to appreciate the words and feelings that each one brings. It’s a good way to set the mood for the day with some positive words and vibes.

Poetry for Those Who Need It
“Water Your Flowers With Love: A Collection of Poems” by Koula Hadjitooulou is a collection of poetry that addresses life, suffering, war, and immigration. The poet addresses her life experiences through her lyrical illustrations. These poems are uplifting and inspiring; however, and this is a note for the author, the reason I gave four stars as opposed to five is because although the poems were well written and beautifully done, they did not feel raw enough. They felt somewhat generic, and I wanted to feel some more raw emotions emanating from these poems. I acknowledge it’s never easy to write about one’s feelings or emotions, but these poems needed more emotional emphasis behind them.

It would be easy to dismiss this poetry collection as a volume of finding joy in nature, being kind, believing in yourself, and other platitudes. Don't be fooled, it's not.
It's autobiographical, as the author begins to give us glimpses of her life's circumstances that led her to embrace these three main ideas. Closer examination uncovers the loss of loved ones, life as a child in war, physical and emotional abuse, the difficulties of being an immigrant, and a stint in a refugee camp. And those poems, carefully placed throughout, will scorch your heart.
Although not a religious volume, "I Imagine God" is a wonderful and joyous celebration of Creation. A much more serious note was struck in "You Are Destined for The Stars," at once encouraging those people living with abuse and paying homage to those who have survived. The poem "You Have A Voice" contains these ponderous lines: "Humanity is crying for help; It seems we have gone deaf."

The language is quite accessible even for a child, and the love the book displays is seen in every poem. Here is a book of poems to lift your spirits and think the best of things even when you are having a bad day. Things can always get better if you keep going. This is the heart of the book, its main message: to try to have a positive attitude and appreciate your surroundings.

This collection of poems deals with issues of trauma and the power of forgiveness and love to overcome and thrive. I was particularly attracted to the following poems: Cyprus and the Girl with the Water Jug, the title poem, Water Your Flowers with Love, Scale, A Walk in the Woods, In Your Heart’s Pocket, and The Immigrant’s Soul likely because many deal with the immigrant or the outsider experience of loneliness. Absolutely beautiful poetry throughout and again, speaks to a lived experience others can identify with.

This poetry collection is thoughtful, inspiring and emotional. Koula Hadjitooulou captures pain , hope and love with heartfelt verses that need reflection. The blend of past and present gives the poems depth while the uplifting message reminds readers that even in difficult times compassion and inner strength can still shine. I specially liked 'someone asked me' and 'you are special '.

I truly adore this book! All of its poems bring something special and meaningful, it is written with such care which can be seen in each poem. One of my favourite poem's is "Welcome Dawn", it is beautifully written that it allows your imagination to truly visualize the nightingales and their song. Truly such an inspirational and powerful book.
