This was absolutely perfect, chef kiss, no notes, bravo. Sweet and spicy with a fast pace and enjoyable banter. It’s like a hallmark movie with the abominable snow man . Perfect amount of protective without being toxic, cinnamon roll of a mmc who make you hot cocoa and decorates for xmas with you. Ooh and there’s knotting 🔥 Thanks so much to Maggie it was entirely my pleasure to arc read this for you ❄️💜

Stranded in a snowstorm. Rescued by a monster. Loved like she never knew possible.

Ella’s only holiday plan is to dodge her family’s questions about the divorce she’s still reeling from. But when her car dies on a snowy road in the middle of nowhere, her quiet escape turns into a survival scenario. That’s when Axel appears, a massive, soft-spoken man with eyes like winter and hands built to protect. He offers shelter, safety, and something she doesn’t know how to accept yet: comfort. She can’t ignore the signs. He’s something more than human, something ancient and wild beneath the warmth.

From the moment Axel finds her, he knows exactly who she is to him. But Ella’s human, carrying bruises from the past, and she’s not looking to fall for anyone, especially not someone with a secret like his. Still, Axel doesn’t push. He waits. As the storm holds them close, the walls she’s built start to fall.

Ella’s past doesn’t stay in the rearview for long. As danger creeps closer, Axel’s quiet strength becomes something fiercer. In a world where monsters live in plain sight and bonds are etched in soul-deep instinct, love becomes the fiercest protection of all.

Ella starts out guarded and wary, shaped by betrayal and loss, but slowly rediscovers trust and agency. Axel, steady and quietly intense, finds purpose and belonging in being there for her. What begins as survival deepens into a bond built on vulnerability, mutual care, and love that feels like home.

A steamy, snowed-in, monster romance with forced proximity, fated mates, opposites attract, small town tension, and one bed heat, exploring trust, healing, identity, safety, intimacy, and emotional transformation. It’s about rebuilding after heartbreak, choosing connection even when it scares you, and finding love that stays through every storm.

The Elevator Pitch: A snowstorm, a broken-down car, and a towering stranger with secrets set the stage for a fierce and unexpected love. What begins as survival turns into something much deeper as a guarded woman finds herself drawn to the quiet strength of the not-quite-human man who saves her. Steamy, intense, and full of heart, this Yeti romance delivers heat, protection, and intense connection.

Oh my gosh, this book was so cute! I could totally read more of their story.

Axel is probably one of my fave MMCs of the year now. He’s so attentive, caring and sweet. I don’t blame her for loving how furry and soft he is. I would probably be rubbing on him as well 😆

It was only 113 so a quick read. I love this little town filled with monsters. It wasn’t super spicy but a decent amount with plenty of plot and growth for it only being like 3 days of them together.

Ella gets a second chance at her hea when she breaks down at the side of the road, during the start of a snow storm. Axel has been hoping to find his fated mate. Fate does not disappoint when he finds a little human.
Axel is a big cinnamon roll. He is her fierce protector when danger comes. He is patient and understanding that she may not feel the pull of the bond because she is human.
It would have been better if the third act conflict made more sense. The reader never knows the motivation.
If you like instalove and mate bonds, you may enjoy this novella.

Abominable by Maggie Mayhem is one of those holiday romances that sneaks up on you—equal parts thrilling, tender, and unexpectedly emotional. What starts as a simple road trip gone wrong quickly becomes a snowed-in escape where healing, desire, and fate collide in the most irresistible way.

Ella is raw and relatable from the start, still bruised from a divorce she hasn’t fully processed and dreading the well-meaning questions waiting at home. When her car breaks down in the middle of a brutal snowstorm, the last thing she expects is Axel—a towering, gentle stranger whose presence feels both comforting and slightly unbelievable. And for good reason. Axel isn’t entirely human, and the story plays beautifully with that tension as Ella notices the little things that don’t quite add up… and realizes she doesn’t want to run from them.

Axel is the definition of quiet strength. He’s protective without being overbearing, patient without being distant, and utterly devoted in a way that feels instinctive and soul-deep. Watching him give Ella space while still making her feel safe was incredibly satisfying, especially as her guarded walls slowly come down. Their forced proximity during the storm allows trust to build naturally, turning shared survival into genuine intimacy.

What really elevates this story is the emotional growth. Ella doesn’t lose herself in the romance—she finds herself again. And Axel, who has always existed on the edges, finally discovers belonging through loving her. When outside danger threatens their fragile peace, the stakes rise, and Axel’s monstrous side becomes exactly what Ella needs.

Steamy, cozy, and full of heart, Abominable is a snowed-in monster romance that balances heat with healing. If you love fated mates, protective non-human heroes, and stories about rebuilding after heartbreak, this one is the perfect winter escape—proof that sometimes the safest place to land is in the arms of a monster who never lets go.

A Cozy and Surprisingly Tender Paranormal Christmas Romance (Despite a Questionable Title)

This winter Christmas romance blends paranormal elements with heartfelt storytelling, pairing a human heroine with an unexpected yeti mate. At the start of the story, the heroine is freshly divorced from a wolf shifter who turned out not to be her fated mate and was exiled from his community. Standing at the edge of a new beginning, she instead finds something entirely different — and much healthier — with her yeti counterpart.
What really stood out to me were the well-developed characters. Both leads feel emotionally grounded, shaped by their past experiences, and their connection grows naturally rather than feeling rushed or forced. The romance unfolds in a warm, wintry atmosphere that fits the Christmas setting beautifully, making it a cozy yet emotionally engaging read.
The world-building and pacing are well done, and the story feels thoughtfully crafted rather than relying solely on genre tropes. That said, my main issue with the book is the title. Unfortunately, it felt somewhat degrading and didn’t reflect the care and tenderness found within the actual story — which is a shame, because the content itself deserves better.
Overall, this is a lovely, well-written paranormal holiday romance with strong characters and an engaging emotional arc. If you can look past the title, there’s a genuinely satisfying and cozy winter read waiting for you.

Abominable was such a fun, cozy, swoony surprise and the perfect holiday palate cleanser. I fell for Axel immediately… sweet, a little sassy, and fully aware of his own charm. That man had my heart from page one.

I absolutely loved the dual POV, especially in a fated mates story. Knowing all of their thoughts only heightened the tension, the longing, and the inevitable “oh no, there’s only one bed” moment (and yes… we all know where that’s headed 👀).

The holiday setting paired with Axel being a yeti monster was such a refreshing twist. It felt festive without being over-the-top, and it fit the story so well. Watching Axel fully step into his role as a protective, capable, slightly feral badass was immensely satisfying.

This book gets five stars from me for being warm, romantic, and just plain fun. It gave me exactly what I wanted…a cozy monster romance that expands the Darlington monsters world while still standing strong on its own. If you’re looking for something sweet, spicy, and seasonally perfect, Abominable absolutely delivers.

✨ Highly recommend, especially if you love fated mates, possessive monsters, and holiday vibes with teeth. ✨

Thank you to the author for providing an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

Excellent!

A very cute Christmas tale! Ella has just received her divorce from her wolf shifter husband. To say she is off all men right now is an understatement. She is on her way home for Christmas when her car breaks down near Darlington, a town of Others, during the middle of a blizzard. She is sure she is sunk, with no cell service and no way to get into town without freezing to death. Even staying in her car is sure death! But she is rescued by a handsome stranger who takes her to his cabin to wait out the storm.

Axel is on his way home from stocking up in town so he can wait out the blizzard in his cabin. It has hit much earlier than expected and he is shocked to see a small car on the side of the road, already starting to be buried by the snow. He is equally shocked to see a beautiful female alone in the car and when he smells her, he knows she is his mate, but she is also human. Not wanting to scare her, he plays it “cool” and tries to keep his Yeti under control.

These two are meant to be together, he just has to wait until Ella figures it out! But when danger comes knocking at he door, he will do anything to protect his mate!

A well written story with love, laughter and danger! Not to be missed!

Ella is a resilient human woman heading home to spend the holidays with her family after a messy divorce from her possessive shifter ex-husband. She is wary of shifters after her ex, but still decides to take a detour to visit Darlington, which is known for having a diverse community of "others"—something her ex would let them do. Her planned holiday detour turns into a snowy adventure when she's rescued by Axel, an attractive yeti.

Axel is charming and completely lovable. Axel is certain Ella is his mate, but is he patient and compassionate, giving her the space she needs to process her feelings and to decide to trust someone with her heart. I enjoyed watching Ella's wariness melt away as her feelings for the kind-hearted yeti grew. Their budding relationship was adorable; full of cute banter, sweet thoughtfulness, and steamy moments.

Perfect for readers wanting a quick, heartwarming, and hot holiday romance! The story can be read as a standalone but still fits nicely with the rest of the Possessive Monsters world.

ARC REVIEW 📚

It's been a while since I've reviewed a holiday romance book, and it's safe to say that it was absolutely cozy and adorable. Although the pacing was relatively swift, the worldbuilding was intriguing, which left me wanting more. Hopefully, this will be expanded further in future books!

As for the main characters, Ella was intelligent and resilient, while Axel was kind, sweet, and protective. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing how Ella was able to overcome her past marital struggles with Axel's support. He provided her the comfort and respect she deserves, which made their connection quite genuine. Finally, the spicy scenes were sweet and passionate.

I WOULD RECOMMEND IF 📒

If you're looking for a short, sweet, and spicy monster romance book featuring themes such as "fated mates," "divorcee FMC," "cinnamon roll MMC," "forced proximity," "touch her and d!e," "there's only one bed," "small town vibes," "kn0tting," "food play," and "HEA," then this is the book for you.

🌟ARC REVIEW🌟

Abominable by Maggie Mayhem is an immediate mate-recognition monster romance with a fast-moving plot and plenty of heat. Recently divorced and heading home for Christmas, the FMC’s plans derail when her car breaks down just as a snowstorm hits—cue the MMC rescuing her and instantly recognising her as his mate. One night sheltering in his cabin quickly turns into much more, and from there the spice is absolutely spicing.

There’s an underlying thread of tension with the FMC’s concern about her ex possibly finding her, though it never quite reaches a sense of urgency. Overall, a fun, high-heat read that delivers on vibes and spice, even if I wanted a little more depth and tension to push it to a full five stars.

My view, Abominable is a delicious monster romance that fully leans into its genre. It’s a fun, spicy, and unapologetically Christmas romance, delivering intense chemistry, and just the right amount of energy. If you like your romances monstrous, fast-paced, and spicy, this one absolutely delivers.

Abominable is an enjoyable holiday romance read that goes a little sideways for its MFC Ella who on the drive home for the holidays has her car suddenly deciding to breakdown. Its cold and snowing but with no cell service she is gonna have to brave walking.
Luckily fate intervenes in the form of MMC Axel who finds her just before a blizzard is going to hit and brings her to his nice warm cabin.
Recently divorced Ella finds the giant -from what she can tell- shifter attractive but has no wish to bring another one of those into her life again, even as he begins to intrigue her once they are safely indoors. Little does she realize yet that Axel’s first whiff of her scent told him all he needed to know…MATE!
I really enjoyed this newest monster romance novella from the author which was nicely written with perfectly crafted characters, magic, spice, personal vulnerability, emotion,
Ex intrigue, adventure, and heart. So glad they found each other! HEA.

ARC review

Thanks to the author for the advance read. I enjoyed the story as I do love an ML who appears scary but is a big cinnamon roll 🥰

I wish the story were longer, but that is me being greedy.

The story takes place sometime after Holly's divorce from her shifter ex, Blake, who was problematic in more than one way. Holly embarks on a trip to visit her family for the first time since her divorce and finds herself stranded, and meets Axel.

What could be worse than a busted car on the side of the road? A fun weather event.

Holly has to make some decisions and figure out how she wants to work through the walls she's understandably put up after getting out of a divorce. While Axel may be a nice distraction, he has a dilemma of his own, and nothing like inclement weather, a warm cabin, and a few days with a beautiful stranger for everyone to figure their stuff out.

True to their writing, Maggie excels with her ML and FL pairings, providing great support characters that strike the perfect balance of humor, danger, build-up, and spice to keep you entertained and engaged.

This is a sweet fated mates PNR with lovable main and side characters (with the exception of Ella's ex-husband, who is not meant to be lovable!) Ella's car breaks down on the outskirts of Darlington, a city full of witches, wizards and paranormal creatures. She is rescued by Axel, a Yeti, who recognizes right away that she is his fated mate, but he doesn't want to scare her away so he doesn't say anything for a while. Ella's marriage to a lone werewolf has just officially ended, and she is apprehensive about another relationship. Even so, their mutual attraction and forced proximity during a snowstorm ensure that Ella and Axel form a bond. She has her very own big teddy bear, with fur and all, to cuddle. He takes great care of her and is very protective. This is a fun short story that takes place at Christmas time. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend also reading all the other stories that take place in the city of Darlington. I don't think you will regret it!

Wow this was so sweet 😍
I wasn't sure where we were going when Ella was doing her damndest to beat the weather and her car's death sentence. Much like her I was shocked when right after it died someone knocked on her car window ready to save the day. Axel just wanted to be a good dude and help this girl get to safety before a blizzard. The world stops when her scent hits his nose and he knows in his bones that's his mate. Spending a couple days together while the storm passes seems to be all that's happening on the surface but underneath things are rapidly heating up for the both of them. Ex-husband baggage coupled with the fear of her finding out what he really is make for a very interesting series of events for these two. Sweet, silly, spicy, a dash of touch her and 💀, and all the fated mate love you to the core you can handle in a bite sized snowed in treat. One cabin, one bed, one secret, let's go 🙌

Abominable by Maggie Mayhem was such a fun holiday paranormal romance. I mean… who doesn’t love a yeti/sasquatch romance? I went in curious and came out completely charmed.

Ella is fresh out of a divorce from a wolf shifter who’s more than a little unhinged, so heading home for Christmas already feels like a lot. Then she takes a small detour, breaks down in a snowstorm, and suddenly we’re in peak holiday-romance territory. Snowed in? Check. Paranormal hero? Check. Fate doing its thing? Absolutely.

This story was sweet, cozy, and full of holiday vibes with fated mates woven in perfectly. It’s not heavy or angsty—just a feel-good, heartwarming read that works beautifully for the season. I flew through it and finished with a big smile on my face.

If you’re in the mood for a festive paranormal romance with a unique monster hero and lots of holiday love, this one is a great pick.

This short story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, forced proximity, fated mates, contemporary fantasy Christmas romance between Ella, the female human lead, and Axel, the male yeti lead. I enjoyed Axel’s confidence in Ella being his mate, and his patient compassion that meant he was willing to give her time and space to develop her own feelings. I enjoyed Ella’s resilience after leaving her ex-husband. I empathised with her wariness and enjoyed seeing her confidence in Axel increase. I enjoyed the building intimacy and the physical enjoyment Ella and Axel found together. I chuckled at the antics of Ella’s family and appreciated the community support in the face of Ella’s ex’s harassment.

This was so cozy and sweet!

I really enjoyed this novella, and it was a great wintery quick read for the holiday season. The pacing was fantastic and it was a great mix of soft and cozy, with a little bit of danger and excitement thrown in for good measure.

Axel is the sweetest guy with a warm gooey cinnamon roll center. He is adorable and deserves all the snuggles! Ella was also fun, and the chemistry between the two of them is top notch. The spice was lovely, and it was the perfect amount to not take over the story while giving the characters time to grow their bond with each other.

If you want a fun little Christmas read, this one is a great one to grab!

Advanced Reader Review: If Hallmark Christmas Channel made a Monster Romance Novella.
Snowed In Cozy Cabin, Forced Proximity, Dual POV, Fated Mates.
This story was short & sweet & kept me excited to read what's next. The main plot happens over just a few days but the characters had so many moments of cuteness that when things got spicy it didn't feel rushed.
Abominable was so refreshing. No third act breakup! No miscommunication trope!
The vulnerability shown in the MMC's POV about how he was anxious to tell her what he is was so endearing. The MFC knows he is a shifter & her trying to figure out what exactly he is without being rude showed how accepting & aware she was, which made her likeable to me. He fell first but she felt the connection too.
I enjoyed Maggie Mayhem's world building in this wintery holiday tale. 10 out of 10 would recommend to friends :)

Ella had decided to go home for Christmas to see her family. Her divorce was finally final and she needed to get away from her ex and everything that reminded her of him and her failed marriage. Before going to her parent's house she wanted to make a stop at the town she has heard all about that had monsters and shifters in it. She wanted to check it out. She never knew that in doing so she would end up getting stranded as her car just decided in the middle of a blizzard to break down. She was surprised to have this sexy man stop and take her to his cabin to keep her safe as no one was going anywhere until this storm passed. Axel never knew that in stopping for a stranger that was broke down on the side of the road that he would find his mate. I loved every single moment of this book. It is so well-written, and the chemistry between these two made for such a sweet and enjoyable read. I loved how these two get to know one another, and Axel knowing that Ella is twice shy about relationships just due to her own that she had gotten out of he gave her all the space she needed and was just there to be a steady person in her life that kept her safe. I loved every single moment of this book and I so cannot wait to see what else this author has in store for us!!! This is a must read!!!

Just when Ella thinks her day can't get worse, it does…her car breaks down in the middel of nowhere with a blizzard charging in. Lucky for her Axel finds her and gets her to shelter being the perfect gentleman even though he knows she is his mate.

This was a wonderful quick read with lots of story packed into a novella. Word to the wise, the story is even better if you read the series. Ella's ex has quite the back story but you get just a synopsis about him towards the end. Don't want to spoil the story but I recognized him from his previous appearance in the series.

Love how Maggie Mayhem weaves previous characters into stories. There are some others that make appearances too which were also enjoyable.

Maggie Mayhem's Abominable is a perfect cozy winter romance. This book had some of my favorite tropes. A snowstorm, a little forced proximity, banter, and fated mates, just to name a few. The romance was light and adorable. Axel and Ella were laid-back. They make a great couple. I loved how they just clicked with each other; it was like they'd been together for a while, even though they had only just met.

I've only read one other monster romance that featured a yeti, so they're still relatively new to me. I really enjoyed Maggie's yeti lore. The whole glamour situation was interesting and kind of funny. I loved the ending. It had just the right amount of drama and humor to create a perfect HEA. Abominable was a quick read. Perfect if you're trying to squeeze in a little romance.

Did I toss my TBR out the window for a shiny new release? Yep! Sure did! 🤣🤣🤣
.
I haven't read any yeti romances yet, and I decided 'twas the season. This was a cozy novella with more getting stuck in a snow storm and getting rescued. But this damsel is rescued by a yeti. Are they mates? Yep. But he's patient and respects that it may not feel quite the same for her.
.
She's also recently divorced and it's a good thing she finds herself a yeti that can put a smackdown on a possessive ex. 😉
.
This novella is set in a larger small town monster series but I thought it did a great job of looping me into the setting situation without derailing the current story. I actually think I'd like to look into the rest of this series!
