I removed one star for a mistake in the charades scene, but was forced to put it back because this book made me giddy in the way that good romance are meant to. The relationship progression felt natural, if compressed into a too short holiday timeframe. The descriptions of the art were evocative and I kinda wanted the cover to be the Ignite piece described within.
The premise of this novel is excellent, I enjoyed the writing, as much of it as existed, but I felt the character development was a bit rushed. This story could have easily been 50% more with more clear character development.
The story is cute. Drew hasn't found her person yet. Simone rents herself out as a fake girlfriend when needed. Later on, we discover why. She was badly burned in a prior relationship where her partner sought to stifle her artistic creativity. Drew hires Simone for ten days of family Christmas activities but with each event, Drew feels like the lines between fake and real are eroding and she wants them to erode. Is Simone feeling this or is it all an act?
Midway through the ten days, at game night, Drew gets her answer but she also learns how scared and fragile Simone really is underneath that calm acting exterior. Will Simone choose love or will she stay behind her walls?
This story was an eye opener! PG rating! But that is okay!
A learning curve for someone who won't shut up trying to set someone up that you think would be great to meet up! Aarrgh! How many times have we forgotten to ask? Just ask! You may think you are doing a favor for a son/daughter, niece/nephew a relative or a friend. Are you helping or hindering? Enjoy!
I liked this book. It was great how they started out and as things got going it got more complicated. I like how Drew wanted it to be real but Simone was scared but in the end they both got what they urge most.
