If life was a game, mine would be stuck on the loading screen.
A slow day at the office takes a sharp turn when I uncover a strange gaming console that pulls me into another world. Now, I’m the chosen one destined to save a peaceful kingdom from ruin. My task? Find the scattered Golden Rings, rescue the missing Princess Lunessa, and defeat the powerful Legends who attack anyone in their path.
I don’t have to do this alone though. A daring squirrel girl, a fiercely loyal elf maid, and a reformed blonde villain stand at my side.
Yet the greatest threat in Mana Land isn’t the monsters that hunt us. It’s the secret that lies at the heart of the game, waiting for someone bold enough to find it.
I DNF this book by page 60, as I just found it a little to farcical for my tastes.
The MC is a guy that analyzes data for pattern issues, working for a high-tech company that does a lot of VR stuff. He finds an old console in the basement that he takes home. Before he can do anything other than plug it in and take a shower, the power goes out. Yet the console has the power light on, so he hits the On button to see what happens, and suddenly he's in game.
From there, he reaches a castle, meets the maid there, an elf. She feeds him a muffin that tastes awful, but because she's hot, he says it was really good and wants another. When she comes back with a huge plate of the same awful muffins, she declares he's her lover because he met elven marriage customs by finding her cooking the best ever. This is probably the most cringeworthy moment I've encountered in haremlit this year. Since I was already not finding the story entertaining, I was pretty much done at this point.
