Immortal Rogue

Carriages, corsets, candlelight…and a rake with fangs. Welcome to the seductive, perilous world of Regency London’s undead elite.

London, 1804. Viscount Voss Dewhurst has spent centuries savoring every sinful pleasure Society can offer. As one of the Dracule—a secret brotherhood bound to Lucifer—he lives by decadence and dark hunger. Nothing touches his cold immortal heart…until Angelica Woodmore.

Sharp-witted, bold, and frustratingly innocent, Angelica is the first woman to rattle Voss’s carefully controlled world. Her scent tempts him. Her courage intrigues him. And her beauty awakens a hunger Voss has spent lifetimes suppressing—a hunger as dangerous to Angelica as it is to him.

When a ruthless vampire sets his sights on Angelica, Voss finds himself torn between the wicked life he has always embraced and the fierce, forbidden need to claim and protect her. But giving in to desire could drag Angelica into a world of seduction and sin from which there is no return.

As scandal swirls, enemies close in, and the devil’s influence tightens its grip, Voss must decide whether love is worth defying the darkness that made him—or if Angelica will become his salvation, his ruin, or both.

Originally published as the Draculia trilogy, this newly rebranded Vampires of London edition reflects the series’ true nature—lush, gothic, and seductively dark. With its blend of Regency elegance and immortal intrigue, Colleen Gleason’s beloved vampire romances step into the spotlight with a fresh identity designed for today’s readers.

Pretty cool premise; vampire lords in Regency England. I really wanted to love this.

But the author started losing me in the first paragraph. 1804 London, and the vampires are playing poker at Whites. Poker first rose to popularity in the American south (New Orleans and the riverboats) in the 1830s and didn’t arrive in England til the 1870s. Ok, I’m thinking, I’m being nitpicky. I read another couple of chapters and found very little to engage my interest, so… I’m out.

(I did like the vampire take on the familiar phrase “damn and blast.” Damn and blast and burning bones.)

London does happen to be one of my favourite cities and when you add the Regency era with gorgeous high society balls, then toss in the most alluring creatures of the night alongside some suspense and tempting though highly dangerous romance, you get quite the story for sure.

The Viscount Dewhurst was a delight - dark, tricky, manipulative and unlike many vampire characters, quite fond of his immortality. Voss is one of those charismatic individuals, who draws you in instantly- you know it would be a dangerous game, but somehow you are unable to resist. When Miss Angelica Woodmore catches his attention as a result of an ulterior motive, Voss is perplexed by the young, innocent lady, who happens to possess the Sight, a gift thanks to her Romani ancestors. The romance is slow, tempting and eventually it does reach its boiling point. There is plenty of temptation, but there is just one intimate scene here. For me it worked perfectly considering the setting and the characters.

The writing is good, the dialogues are witty and parallel to Voss and Angelica's story there are a few others that do take place. I did find that interesting for sure, just as much as I found the concept of the Dracule brotherhood being bound to Lucifer thought - provoking. In addition, each of the Dracule representatives has his own weakness, which is something that I have not come across often. As engaging as this book has been, the end did fall a bit flat for me as I prefer my vampires to remain vampires rather than to be magically 'cured'. I understand why the author went that way, but I would have much preferred for the main hero to remain just as he was - a dashing immortal.

I would certainly recommend it as the story is really good and if you love your paranormal romance with a historical setting, then this could be of interest.

3.5 stars rounded up. This is a vampire story set in the early 1800’s in London. A vampire - Arden Voss falls for a mortal - Angelica Woodmore. This story touches on the brotherhood of vampires and their ties to Lucifer. I liked how the vampires each had their one thing that brought them weakness. This was a good story but (I can’t believe I’m going to say this) I would have liked a bit more spice. It definitely had angst and the characters were so well written. All in all a good read - especially for this time of year

This is my first story by Ms. Gleason, the first in a series, and, I'll definitely be continuing!

She captured my mind!
Led me through her world seamlessly!
Introduced me to well fleshed characters and more!

I enjoyed the fact that this vampire, Voss, had insecurities!
It made him "somewhat" human!

Will Angelica bring out the best in him?

Will they have a happily ever after?

Loved the sizzling moments between them!

Ready for book two!

A Compelling Reading

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping dark historical vampire romance from a new to me author, which had me hooked from the first page to the last. I love antiheroes and a good redemption arc. The plot is very well written, fast-paced and action-packed. It is told from multiple perspectives and brims with palpable emotions, a partly immersive atmosphere, suspense, secrets, violence, danger, humorous banter, sensual moments and steamy love scenes.
Voss is a complex character. As an egocentric, superficial, pleasure-obsessed vampire, he is naturally a morally gray hero, but the emptiness of his life and growing fear of his own afterlife, as well as his confusion about his growing feelings for Angelica, are palpable, and one cannot help but empathise with him, even if at times one would like to shake him or slap him. Angelica is very likable. On the one hand, unlike her sister, she is somewhat naive and curious, but on the other hand, she is strong, fierce and burdened by her special gift. Ultimately, she must choose between her fears and her trust. The sizzling chemistry between the two is palpable from the start, but their relationship is repeatedly put to the test until they reach a surprising happy ending.
I really liked the fact that the vampires and their behaviors differed from one another and that it ultimately boils down to a battle between good and evil, which, however, is not ultimately resolved in this book.
There are also hints of two other blossoming romances, and I am already looking forward to read their stories.

Voss Arden, Viscount Dewhurst, is a hedonistic vampire created by Lucifer himself and a member of the Dracule, a secret society of the undead.
Angelica Woodmore has "the Sight." In her visions, she sees other people dying. She has no idea that her brother Chas is a vampire hunter and ally of vampire Dimitri, the Earl of Corvindale, but when Chas disappears, Angelica and her older sister Maia are placed under the protection of Dimitri, their new guardian.
After many years abroad, Voss returns to England to take advantage of the Woodmore sisters. He is always looking out for his own interests and stays neutral in the feuds between other vampires. But when Voss meets Angelica, he unexpectedly feels attracted to her and now not only has to fight his own urges for her and hide the fact that he is a vampire, but also protect Angelica from the brutal vampire Cesar Moldavi, who wants to use her as a pawn against Chas because he has eloped with Moldavi's sister Narcise…

If you enjoy gritty vampire romance novels with flawed heroes, conflicted heroines, complex dynamics, emotion, action, suspense and spice, this book is for you.

I will admit I don’t normally read paranormals with vampires but I do love historical regency and when I came across the blurb for this book and saw the cover, I was definitely intrigued. Maybe it was his eyes casting a thrall, I don’t know but I’m glad I chose to read the book. There are quite a few characters introduced with a group of what I would call “the decent” vampires, a group of “the evil” vampires and the family of mortals consisting of vampire-hunter Chas Woodmoore and his three sisters, Maia, Angelica and Sonia (Sonia is mentioned but does not play a big role in this book). As a bit of background, Chas has gone missing and because he foresaw issues in the dangerous line of vampire-hunting he left a vampire as guardian of his sisters. The guardian is Dimitri, the Earl of Corvindale, and even though he has a grumpy disposition he is one of the”the decent” vampires. The sisters at this point know nothing about what their brother does nor about real-living vampires but their eyes, especially Angelica’s, are soon going to be filled with more than they would ever want to see. The vampire who so fabulously graces the cover of the book walks a fine line between the two types always seeking whatever pleases him and he is Voss Arden, Viscount Dewhurst, and only 148 years old. Yes, a rogue and he’s set his eyes on the Woodmore sisters to see which one has the gift of sight thinking to use her for his own benefits. But she’s going to cause him to suffer more pain than he’s ever suffer before.
The paranormal part of the story was mild, there were vampire feedings, injuries and even killings but only in three or four scenes but the vampire theme of course runs throughout the whole book with a lot of references to Lucifer, Asthenias (the vampires own kryptonite), the Mark and their need to feed. The romance was a slow build with Voss instantly wanting Angelica but fighting Lucifer’s pull, Angelica falling only to be shocked by betrayal and then a beautiful story of rescue, love and redemption plays out. I do believe for me the most amazing part of the book is the redemption story that plays out throughout the pages….watch carefully for when God is called upon. I can’t wait for the next book with Dimitri’s story.

I generally stick to reading traditional HR novels and rarely veer into the paranormal subgenre. The vampires in this story have a few quirks that make them different from what I would have expected. They seem to have a relationship with Lucifer aka “Luce.” Each also has a specific weakness that is uniquely theirs. They also have an area of vulnerability on their back. At first, I thought that this was reminiscent of the hero Siegfried in “Das Nibelungenlied.” In this case, it served as a painful reminder for the vampire that their behavior was becoming a bit too human.

Voss, the MMC, was a world-weary vampire. He made the mistake of falling in love with the human Angelica. Predictably, the vampire/human relationship was problematic in quite a few ways. The couple does get their happy ending, but it didn't exactly turn out as I predicted.

This book was well-written, and the relationship of the main characters was sizzling. My only issue was that I had a hard time keeping all of the character names straight. This novel is the first of the series and the author had the difficult work of getting everyone introduced and establishing some backstory. It seems like the different books of this series take place simultaneously. I imagine that the beginning of the next book will mesh seamlessly with the ending of this book. I'm curious to see how things end for the other characters.

Delicious vampire romance!!!!

Immortal Rogue pulled me right back into historical paranormal romance — and I absolutely loved it! The cover alone is stunning, but the story inside? Even better.

Viscount Voss Dewhurst is everything you’d expect in a hedonistic rogue… who just happens to be a vampire. And this is my favorite kind of vampire — one who fully embraces what he is and makes zero apologies for taking what he wants. Total bad boy energy, and I am completely here for it.

But even immortals meet their kryptonite.

Enter the beautiful and alluring Angelica Woodmore. The moment she enters Voss’s orbit, obsession sparks. What begins as a desire to bed her soon stirs something far more dangerous — emotions he believed long dead within his heart.

When these two are forced into close proximity, passion and danger ignite. Lucifer, Voss’s maker, and the brewing war within the secret world of the Dracule threaten to destroy them both. The stakes are high, and the tension is delicious.

With excellent writing, a steadily paced storyline, and compelling main and secondary characters, this was an incredibly enjoyable read.

I cannot wait to dive into Book 2, Immortal Beloved, featuring Dimitri, Earl of Corvindale is— deliciously dark and brooding. Maia Woodmore is so proper and by-the-book that when she finally falls for Dimitri, I just know it’s going to be scorching!

Until next time,

The Vampire and the Lady

“Immortal Rogue” is book one in the series Vampires of London written by Colleen Gleason. This story puts a different spin on vampire lore, complete with individual weaknesses and loyalty and obedience to Lucifer. Besides the two main characters, Voss the vampire and Angelica the human, there was a myriad of characters to sort through and remember. Because of the energy spent on all these characters, the romance of Voss and Angelica was a bit weak. Angelica was a complicated character, she had the ability to see the moment of a person’s death. She didn’t keep that talent under wraps, I didn’t really like that she sold her talent to society ladies. Voss was only loyal to Voss, he was a collector of information which he bartered for coin when the time was right. So, both of these characters were alike in that they were information sellers. The meeting of these two characters changed the trajectory of each of their lives. I did like the concept of this story but the execution fell short. The story is very steamy and open door. The story did hold my interest all the way through to the unexpected happy ever after. I would give the next in the series a try.

Is redemption possible or even wanted?
Angelica and Maia are the Earl of Corvindale’s wards due to their brother’s disappearance, vampire hunter Chas Woodmore.
Viscount Ross Dewhurst, a one-hundred-and-forty-eight-year-old vampire, is intrigued by Angelica, her vivacity, her innocence, her intelligence. When danger menaces, he feels compelled to aid and protect her, going against Corvindale’s misgivings and prohibition to even contact Angelica. But dangers abound. And who is this mysterious blond woman appearing regularly to Ross?

Interesting story about the vampire culture and the men who inhabit the dark side.
Voss has been difficult and troubled in the past but he starts a change when he meets Angelica.
She is a bright and shining star that he finds irresistible.
Action packed with many threads in the storyline.
So many characters and personalities to keep track of their flaws and attributes.
I was particularly enamoured of Dimitri and his angst.
A redeeming love story for Voss and Angelica.
I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.

Immortal Rogue is an engaging paranormal romance with a smooth pace and a nice mix of danger, emotion, and supernatural intrigue. The world feels vivid and the immortal angle adds real weight to the story. The romance has good chemistry without taking over the plot, and the spice level stays light, which fits the tone well. Some moments feel a bit too passive from the characters, but the overall arc is satisfying and easy to follow. A solid and enjoyable read for anyone who likes atmospheric paranormal stories with heart.

I loved vampire romance and regency romance so when I came across this book, I just knew I would want to read it. I loved its dark atmosphere and Voss and Angelica's love story. It was fast paced and action packed, suspenseful and romantic. I loved Voss because of his darkness but also because of his humanity. The world-building was breathtaking and complex and the story kept me in suspense and hoping for a happy ever after for Voss and Angelica.

The first book in the "Vampires of London" series is a strong introduction to the world and its culture. The complex relationship between Voss and Angelica provides a compelling foundation for a redeeming love story as Voss evolves. While the action-packed plot involves many intricate storylines and a large cast, the world-building is engaging, and I particularly enjoyed Dimitri’s character. I have liked Colleen Gleasons books, but have only read her mystery genre, so this one was a surprise... a pleasant one. Interesting in it's world building, with a compelling dark hero and a polar opposite of an innocent but brave heroine, the book moved fast. The romance was wonderful, full of dilemmas and choices and the resolution was perfect.

I enjoyed reading about Voss especially.

Very enjoyable read

How more people haven’t read or reviewed this is surprising to me. Regency meets vampire, what’s not to love? It’s not done in a corny way either, it’s well written and the characters have depth. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

in this world, vampires are invited by Lucifer. They can make humans into vampires but those are merely second class. The true vampires bear a mark from Lucifer that Lucifer can control them by pain thru the mark. However there seems to be a way of escape.

I liked this, while it wasn’t as spicy as I wanted it to be, it was still good. The story flowed well, I have questions about some of the details, but I’m hoping they’ll be answered later since this is the first of three. I’m intrigued enough to keep going with it!

I enjoyed this book. At times humorous and others tense. I look forward to reading the second book in the series.
