A Dangerous Reality

AMAZON TOP 10 BESTSELLER Keep your lovers close—and your enemies in bed. TURK. My club sent me to track him down. And when my mission was over, I never wanted another one again. When I found him, I kicked the crap out of Havelock Singer. I issued the mightiest beatdown of all time. Problem is, we’re evenly matched. We’re equals in every way, and when we finished whaling on each other, exhausted, we fell into each other’s arms. I’ve never regretted it for an instant. It’s been the ride of my life. But loving another man in the MC world is a risky business. As if our business isn’t already brutal and ruthless enough, Lock’s homophobic sergeant-at-arms Stumpy gets an eyeful of our lovemaking and blackmails us into doing some of his dirty work, or be exposed for what we are—a couple of deviants. This run into the Indian reservation is sleazy and beneath us, but now I’m cornered, and I’ll do anything to keep my sweet Master from being lynched by his club.LOCK. When that kingpin Carmine Rojas got a load of my beautiful stallion Turk Blackburn, he’d stop at nothing to have him—and Rojas gets what he wants. It’s my fault we’re in this situation. I should’ve kicked Turk’s ass and sent him packing back to The Bare Bones. I wasn’t even close to being ready to come out, but now they’re forcing my hand. I can hear my destiny calling me. Either I’ll slink back to my club like a hetero bounty hunter with no morals—and no respect from anyone in my own backyard—or I’ll step up to the plate and be the lion of the day. Either way, my lover and I are screwed. Our clubs are going to hound us underground or into another country before we escape this mess—if we don’t die trying.“Living off the grid and being an outlaw brings a dangerous reality.” –Ron PerlmanPublisher’s This book is not for the faint of heart. That was me the entire time I was reading this book. Seriously. The. Entire. Time. I freely admit that I could not tough it out and finish this book. I started marking highlights of things that were really bad that I wanted to use in my review. When I had gotten to 56 of them by the 38% mark it became apparent that this book & I were not friends and our relationship could not be salvaged. I'm not even sure where to start but here goes.....

1. First off this author loves her metaphors. There was one on almost every page. Literally every page. Some pages had 2 or 3 of them. Some examples:

-"I'm wailing like a coyote in a canyon"

-"..began to shiver like a Chihuahua pooping in the snow" (which was used during a sex scene btw)

-"fluttering his tongue all around his testicles like a ballerina on meth"

-"Licking, gnawing, worrying Lock's balls like a dingo at the kill"

**Stop. Please stop. Really, just stop.

2. Then there was the fact that these guys were supposed to be outlaw bikers and they were instead, ridiculous 1980's Harlequinn romance figures. Here are some descriptions:

"The guy was simply model-perfect in every way, with his stylish man bun twisted at the back of his neck, the long bangs that were growing out slipping out of the bun and framing his ravishing face."

**Wait. WTF? When do outlaw bikers wear "man buns" and when do they notice that in another man? When do they describe another man as "ravishing"?

"......."I narrowed my eyes even further and revved my engine. 'Does Barry Manilow know you raided his closet?' On that fine note, I burned rubber out of there"

or perhaps

"Who you calling a fag, fag? Those Merrill slip-ons make you look like you're about to say "let's go clubbing guys!' And that shirt makes you look like the First Lady of Myanmar."

**snort....wow you showed him you bad-assed biker dude you. What a razor sharp tongue you have. I'm shivering with the dark and grittiness of those passages. (But it should be noted that I'm NOT shivering like a Chihuahua pooping in the snow.)

"Look at me. I'm a blond-haired god. I know I'm God's gift to women--or to men, in your case. I can swing both ways because I just want to fuck whoever is going to piss someone else off the most, just because I can. I'm a buff weightlifter with no jailhouse tattoos. Come suck my cock. I dare you to, because I'm a hedonist who lives for pleasure...and for pissing people off"

**I've got nothing to say about that passage. It speaks for itself.

3. You promised me "dark & gritty". All your 5 star ARC reviews *side eyes* waxed on about how dark and gritty this is. So in addition to Barry Manilow insults, a few swear words, and cheesy name calling the author decided to throw in racist remarks. Now I understand a racist comment can be an intregal part of a story but one after another (much like the metaphors) is over kill, takes away the impact and pissed this reader off. Some examples used "featherheads, maize-munchers, blanket-assess" Hhmmm someone won't be winning any awards in politcal correctness this year.

4. I worry about m/f authors switching over to m/m but I've read some really good cross overs lately so I was a little leary but still thought this could work out. It did not. This author did not seem to understand what a bottom was and regularly used it and a bdsm sub as interchangable. There seemed to be confusion throughout and here is a perfect example. "He reasoned that if he lacked the tiniest shred of effeminate behavior that marked a bottom, a twink or a pup, that he was somehow less gay." Yeah...these three things are not interchangable and I have one word. Google.
I'm not going to even touch the "bottoms are effeminate" thing because that would make me go on a whole other level of ranty. Apparently someone isn't receiving any awards in gender politics this year either.

5. Various cheesy sayings like "gorging at the feast of that smoking hot stud", "hella fine body", "burgeoning glans", "allowed a hungry wolf to gorge on his vitals" are just really not my thing. For me this is just terrible and horrible and oh so painful to read.

6. I realize as I write this I could go on all day so I'm going to wrap this with my favorite (biggest WTF) scene in the book. The scene that broke me and made me admit defeat. This is the first sex scene between our two MC's. MC 1 is hand cuffed, sitting down, in a chair and is wearing jeans. MC 2 is going on and on about how he knows MC 1 is his "dom" and he's going to show him that by being his "power bottom". I'm not even going to get into what a wonky bdsm scene this was I just want to focus on the fact that at one point MC 2 sticks a feather duster up MC 1's butt. You have to imagine me doing my best Scoopy Doo head tilt and "Ruh????" here. The guy is sitting in a chair, hand cuffed, WITH HIS PANTS ON!! I went back and read this 3x cause I was so confused. I kept thinking I must have missed something but nope. Pants on. So if you can work that feat of magic and get something to his butt in the first place where the hell did you find a feather duster? It's two biker dudes in a Motel Six!! Where the hell did they get a feather duster? And of all the objects that could have been used a feather duster is what you come up with? Cause what? They had one in their bags or the fancy smancy Motel Six just had one laying around? I mean seriously couldn't he have just used the end of his hair brush? He would have had one to brush his fancy "man bun" with right?

*groan* ok so yeah, I couldn't finish this. I really gave it my best shot but this book just did not work for me on so many levels. On the bright side it was the first book to make my "books I hated" shelf for 2015.

This book has so many problems I cannot even begin to list them, but I'm gonna try. First, they're supposed to be badass bikers, but Their expressions...Great Caesars Ghost, being one of the, I just dont equate with a "badass". The BDSM mainly consists of one of them being restrained, and having someone smack them in the penis? WOW I didnt get that at all, its in there like 3 times so apparently its a recurring theme with them. Lock not being able to do anything sexual for his boyfriends, because that would make him gay? Maybe thats part of the BDSM? Its mentioned that Turk has a Brazilian wax, but it talks about it being his pelvis, googling what a Brazilian wax is might help here. And the man bun? WTF? Why??? it makes no sense. The story is very hard to read because its written very choppy. Its hard to tell exactly who is talking becuase neither of their characters are very well defined. As for all those 4 and 5 star reviews, there is just no way that someone would give this story 5 stars. I did notice the author rated it 5 stars, which I have never seen an author rate her own work. Those reviews are like false advertising, luckily there are some honest ones. Still trying to figure out how Turk got that feather duster up Locks ass while hes seated, restrained, and has his jeans on. And why would the guy thats restrained call the other guy his slave?? The racial slurs were just over the top for me, anyway not a book I would ever recommend to another human being.

I hate giving bad reviews. This had so much promise. M/M MC. So many good initials. So much bad writing. Besides the overuse of the word "meat", there was an inprobable incident with a feather duster. Let's suspend reality that they would find a feather duster in a Motel 6, but a feather duster should not be put there. No dusting is getting up there people.

The author also used an abundance of bad metaphors...

shiver like a Chihuahua pooping in the snow

His stupid skull jerked like a bobblehead on his turkey neck.

licking, gnawing, worrying Lock's balls like a dingo at the kill

Now that just sounds dangerous. I don't have balls, but I seriously doubt I would want a dingo gnawing on them.

And then there were these little ditties....
* cum fairy
* veined beef
* burgeoning glans
More genital gnawing:
* gorging at the feast of that smoking hot stud and
* allowed a hungry wolf to gorge on his vitals

This was sooooo bad. I am soooo sorry to say that. But I do not get these great reviews. And again....I hate that I am saying that.

Sorry....this was Gawd Awful.

There are times in every reader's life when boredom sets in and you end up reading something that is like the book equivalent of a televised car chase. You know the person in the car is going to be caught, but you just can't stop watching. Well, this book is one of those times. The three books were featured on BookBub for a steal so I figured what the hell.

What the hell is right. Ever since the Sons of Anarchy, it's like everyone thinks they can write about bikers. And much like billionaires and babies, the biker romance genre really needs to die. Quickly. This one especially was chock full of face-palm moments. Even the sex parts (and I happen to love some good, smutty sex) were laughable, which I'm sure was not the intent. Now, nothing fires my gay erotica loving jets like two or more hot alpha men vying for dominance. But how these two Keystone Cops - I mean Lock and Turk - ever became these supposedly bad assed bikers is only plausible between the pages of this book. In real life, these two wouldn't have lasted a day, and not because they're gay. Frankly the way they were written sounded more the way an author who writes predominantly heterosexual romance would, which is all kinds of problematic.

These two are not just bad pastiches of Easy Rider and SoA, both are just fucking STUPID and careless. They end up getting blackmailed because they couldn't keep it in their pants and seemed to not care about the rampant homophobia in biker culture. A true one per center would waste a blackmailer for far less. And seriously "great Caesars ghost" belongs to J. Jonah Jameson, not in the middle of dirty sex talk.

And what self respecting biker pays attention to the phenomenon of the "man bun"?

Of course, there's some graphic violence and bigotry which does nothing for the book save to try and convince me that ooh, this is so gritty. Not that I'm adverse to the non PC world of biker culture, but this book just seemed like overkill. Hey, let's throw in some nasty epithets for Native Americans and Mexicans.

Still, like a slow speed car chase, there's two more books that I'm going to read in the hopes the trainwreck actually isn't so bad. Or, as I said before, I'm just bored.

This book just didn't do it for me, and I am bummed because I have almost all of the books in this series (I got them as freebies), and I was looking forward to reading them when I wanted some m/m erotica, but this fell very short for me.

The way the book was written was odd... When the chapter was about Tuck, the book was 1st POV; when it switched the Lock by himself, it was in 3rd POV. I have never seen anything written that way - didn't even know that was a style of writing until now.

I didn't like that Lock was such a d!ck - he was on and on with the name-calling ("fags," "fairies," and even some new ones I hadn't heard before that sounded horribly insulting). And he was using them while he was getting his cock sucked, so WTF?! Very in denial that he was into guys, cruel to them, and then suddenly he's head over heels in love with one he originally hated on several levels. It just didn't work at all. No chemistry, no tension, no camaraderie.... just asshole-ism that somehow became insta-love. Nothing at all redeemable about Lock either - he was just a straight up douche canoe until he decided he loved the guy he'd been verbally abusing. Even the sex scenes weren't much to write home about - all oral; most degrading. Just not my cup of tea.

This is the real deal...a gritty, no holds barred depiction of life in a Motorcycle Club.

There is violence, betrayal, double-crossing, blackmail...and love.

In this instance the love is between two men which makes life even more complicated.

Our heroes,Turk and Lock, belong to different MCs....they didn't intend to fall in love...it just happened...but it is believable.

Both of them are well written characters. They have committed acts that could be viewed as violent and criminal which would normally rule them out of "hero status". However, they both retain some humanity and morality, which had me rooting for them.

The plot is strong and has twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end.

And it's hard to believe that this is Layla Wolfe's first foray into M/M....the sex scenes are incredibly hot!

I was gripped by, and thoroughly enjoyed, this book

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

2 stars because it made me laugh with all the stereotypes and cliches, which I'm sure wasn't the author's intention.
I'm sorry but Baby Gangsters (WTF is that) , man buns, references to Barry Manilow aren't things I'd associate with bad ass bikers.
I don't know what I was expecting considering all the 5 star and great reviews but it certainly wasn't what I read.
This left me speechless and don't even have the words to express my disappointment and thinking WTF did I just read.
I'd have to agree and go with both Alisa's and Amanda's reviews.

Original Blog Post: eARC Review: A Dangerous Reality (The Bent Zealots MC #1) by Layla Wolfe

Ramona is a huge fan of Layla Wolf's The Bare Bones MC series and I have always been a little jealous for not having the time to read them. When this was handed over to me by the author herself knowing I love MM books, I was beyond happy. After reading this, I knew why Ramona is such a huge fan and now, this first MM book written by bad ass author herself, I am a fan myself.

First off, this is a shoot off of Bones so the cast and characters all are familiar with are all here and accounted for. But this is really the story of how Turk and Lock got to form their own MC, The Bent Zealots.

It all happened because of one cheating boyfriend and Turk was not happy. Lock was the subject of that cheat and should really made this story simpler. Unfortunately, this is far from a simple story but to make it short and sweet without spoiling any details, Turk and Lock, both from different MCs are now finding themselves together by hook or by crook, in the middle of an MC war over drugs and whatnot's and they encounter danger in every corner they turn. The least danger they are faced with is to be outed as gays, even if this type of danger may mean them getting killed.

There are apparently many levels and ways of getting killed within a war and bigotry but Lock and Turk face these all off. With the trusty Twinkletoes beside them as their faithful and highly useful sidekick.

Both men face many dangers and do some horrible deeds but probably what really opened their eyes to their feelings for each other was when Carmine Rojas kidnaps and abuses Turk and Lock does all he could and breaks all the rules, legal and MC, to get back his man.

Engines roar, bullets fly, BDSM Dos and Don'ts are seen and done, erotic passion between two dominating men and finally, blood and gore, these are all present and accounted for in this reality. Truth is, the life as an MC is not romantic. It is tough, it is rough, it can be fatal to one or all. It is a dangerous reality faced by these men, zealots or not, and they must either man up or die trying.

What a bad assed, awesome read!

Oh. My. GOD!!

"A Dangerous Reality" is an amazing book. Really. I mean that. I don't say the word "amazing" to just any story.

This is not for the faint of heart. It's gritty, and it's not pretty. There is criminal activity, drug use, and pretty much everything you would expect from an MC story. It's not sugar coated at all. That is what did it for me. Fantasy is great...sometimes, and sometimes, I crave reality. I don't read many MC books because, a lot of times, they're TOO rough, but Layla Wolfe creates a balance between a violent reality and a violent fiction.

What really did it for me was that it was an MM story. You really don't see that in MC books. It's almost like gay men aren't TOUGH enough to be in a hardcore club. Well, Turk (my favorite character in any of Layla Wolfe's books)and Lock are DAMN tough, and they are SO EFFING HOT!! They come across each other in an incredibly awkward situation, and their relationship takes off from there. It's a fast, almost nasty (but worth it) ride, where their acrimonious meetings turn into sexy, down and dirty...well the only appropriate word is fucking, and I loved every word of it!

The plot was excellent and well though out. The background characters, most who we've read about before in past books, are placed perfectly. They provide excellent exposition and fill in some blanks within Turk and Lock's lives. There is action, intrigue, and violence, but none of it is unnecessary. A lot of it is over the top, but that's the way it is in the world these people live in.

In the end, we are rewarded with the possibility of sequels with a new set of characters, all of whom are interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading about them in the future.

If wild, raunchy, smutty, AWESOME MC books, with gorgeous men who love each other with a passion that I've never seen in a book like this, is your thing. You need to pick this one up.

A Dangerous Reality held a lot of promise and complications for me. I’ve never picked up a M/M MC read before, but luckily for me, it held genuine realistic themes and inner turmoil that I found brutally honest to what any two men who find themselves in love on opposite sides in the badass biker world would find themselves in.

Author Layla Wolfe has outdone herself as she intertwines a very suspenseful and gritty plot, mixed with extreme conflicting emotions and wavering loyalties that are soon to be put to the utmost test… AND ULTIMATELY, hold two hearts delicately on the line in their midst.

A good all around read that MC fans will love and appreciate!!

4.5 star review by The Blogger Girls.

What a great start to a new series this is. Picture something along the lines of Sons of Anarchy, with a hot, alpha, sexy gay twist.

Lock is a biker who is a bounty hunter on the side. When a chase leads him into a gay BDSM club, he is terrified. He is closeted and in denial about his interest in men, but those thoughts are put aside fairly quickly once someone takes particular interest in him and he ends up getting a BJ in a back room. Unfortunately, they are interrupted by the blower’s boyfriend.

Turk is the boyfriend who caught his lover blowing Lock. He doesn’t realize who Lock is until he runs into him outside of the club. Turk is closeted as well, given he is the VP of a motorcycle gang, though he knows he’s gay and just does his best to hide it from his fellow bikers. When he realizes who Lock is, things get volatile very quickly.

Now, there is some cat and mouse activity going on with Turk suspicious of Lock where some MC business is concerned, but things play out and these guys quickly realize they have some amazing chemistry going on. Boy, do they ever. Turk considers himself a power bottom in a sense that he prefers to bottom, but also prefers to be the one in control. He works Lock like a finely tuned instrument, making Lock forget all about his hang ups. He teases and denies, edges and then blows Lock away, many times. Talk about some hot sex scenes!

Turk and Lock are quickly thrown into a tizzy with blackmail and planting drugs, kidnapping by a drug kinpin, set ups and more set ups, killings and shoot outs. Through this, their feelings grow and the heavy burden of their respective positions in rival clubs looms overhead. After finding some other gay bikers looking for a club to fit in with, a plan forms. What comes out at the end is a whole new MC rising out of the ashes with Turk and Lock at the reins – the Bent Zealots. While we didn’t get to see too much of Lock’s club, Turk’s is pretty great. He leaves in good standing with most, if not all, not wanting him to leave. The future looks very promising for a prosperous relationship with them.

There are some great side characters as well that will play a bigger part of the new club. All in all though, this was an exciting fast read that was gritty and dark at times, but sweet, sexy and loving at others. This is a first time for me reading Ms. Wolfe, but it won’t be my last, as I cannot wait for this story to continue. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the new club shapes up and to see Lock and Turk happy being themselves and enjoying each other.

Oh my Lord...if you thought the Bare Bones MC were downright dirty and crazy wild and over-the-top bad boys...you haven't seen (or read) anything yet, until you read this new book from Layla Wolfe! It is a sometimes "dangerous reality" just being gay in a somewhat homophobic world BUT when you are a biker in a club filled with criminal activities, drug dealing and alpha-male womanizers, wanting to play for the other team can be downright deadly and unacceptable.
Turk was sent to do a job for his club and instead ends up meeting Lock, the man who would become the love of his life...and OMG what a bumpy and sex-filled journey that was. I can't even begin to tell you all how explicit and yet at times, beautifully emotional this book was...yeah I know, sounds crazy...but even though it was chock full of dirty, nasty, kinky male on male action, there were parts that read like poetry.
The whole issue of coming out and fears of retribution from your peers is explored here as well and it really doesn't matter if you are a designer suit wearing white collar guy or a leather patch wearing biker dude, the problems and fears are the same. Strong men can become weak in the arms of another man and the need/want to be accepted is universal and there was a certain desperation in Turk and Colt's desire to be able to steal away just a few precious moments.
There was also plenty of club drama, action and fighting for control over the drug business BUT I would say the biggest fight in this story was one man's discovery of who he really was, another's desire to stop living a lie and ultimately the creation of a new organization where these men could live their biker lifestyle but be who they really are without fear of ridicule or threats of beatings and death.
The definition of "bent" is dishonest, corrupt or homosexual...but it also means a natural talent or inclination, so I would like to believe the formation of The Bent Zealots is a positive step in the right direction for a new biker club who will welcome everyone with open arms.
Be warned though, that this book is everything you see in the warnings...not for the faint-hearted or for those readers who don't like M/M or very raw/violent sexuality.

I love MM books and I love MC books!
But unfortunately, I did not love this MM MC book!

Not to be mean, but after only 30 minutes this was a DNF for me and was immediately returned for refund - thank you Amazon.

I don't know where to begin except to say I am so disappointed. I don't understand all these 5 stars reviews...did I read a different book or something?

With the little that I did read, I hardly understand what was happening. May times I had to read paragraphs over multiples times because I couldn't keep up with so many strange road names being rattled off and then with the use of all those expressions and metaphors.....geez, why so many? One after another, after another, all on the same page.

These guys were anything but bad-ass outlaw bikers. Their word choices, like the use of certain adjectives when talking to each other and in their internal thoughts did not match up with the hard ass bikers they were supposed to be. And where did all their knowledge of certain products, clothes, music, pop culture, etc come from?

I couldn't decide if they either read too many of those cheesy romance novels that my childhood best friend's mother used to read some 25 years ago, or if they would be better as characters in those novels.

This is my first Layla Wolfe book, and I'm sorry for the negativity, but this just did not work for me.

AMAZING READ!!!

Well, this was a first for me! My two favorite genre's MM and MC in one book???? I'll have to thank my friend Michelle, from One Click Aholics for recommending this book. This story revolves around two bikers from two different clubs - Turk, VP of The Bare Bones MC and Lock, a bounty hunter from Assassins of Youth MC. What started out as a major brawl between the two of them turned into a journey of violence, betrayal, and plenty of twists and turns along the way. Of course, let's not forget to throw in some homophobic psycho bikers. But through it all, these two were perfect for one another. I actually thought that Turk was funny throughout the book as they dealt with one disastrous situation after another. This book had it all. Two hot, gay, alpha bikers, smokin hot sex (not overkill), great plot and so many wonderful supporting characters. I was blown away with Layla Wolfe's style of writing. It's rough, raw, not your typical cookie cutter MC read. It would make an excellent movie! I absolutely CAN NOT wait to read more from this brilliant author.

When I started reading this story my first thoughts were that I was getting to know Turk and Lock deepest fears, feelings and their flaws but also I was knowing them in the crude reality of being part of the MC's world.

Even though Turk and Lock belong to two different clubs their first encounter was explosive but also due to betrayal ... Not a good way to start.

They were then force to stick together by circumstances in which danger became immenent. They needed to survive and that open the door to some hot man to man action ... And loving.

One of the things I like about this story is that you are always finding the way to get answers to their pasts and history because Turk and Lock develop the relationship based on being sincere and looking forward to the future.

Between bikers, jealousy , killings and revenge this book is a good read.

The author made sure the characters are well written. I am seriously hoping for more books in the series.

This book is a big slap. It's hard, violent, with scenes of steamy sex, two men who are not tender that you follow passionately this love story in the world of bikers.

Turk and Lock are two outlaws from different MCs who fall in love. Their high-speed, hi-jinks-ensuing romance had everything I look for in a MC book: a bit of comedy, mayhem, violence, sex, lust, lies, and hot bikers!
Turk and Lock - I just loved them! They each had their own traits that drew me in. A perfectly matched set, a yin to his yang.

Layla Wolfe is a new author to me. I loved her writing and will definitely be checking out more of her work.
Being a lover of MC books, and having never read the Bare Bones MC books, I now need to get to reading them as well!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Wow, what a smoking hot, intense read! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. This was my first M/M MC read. If you followed the Bare Bones MC series then you were familiar with Turk. Turk and Lock are from two different MCs who fall in love. They were being blackmailed for their sexuality. This book is filled with plenty of lust, passion and MC violence. As with all of Layla Wolfe's stories, the characters are well written and the story is well told. I look forward to reading more in this new series.

I'm quite new to the MC genre but this book didn't disappoint. It was hard & gritty & really sucked you into their world.

The main characters are members of different MCs who meet in slightly unusual circumstances but over the course of the book fall in love. I like MM and Lock and Turk's relationship was at times so hot I was surprised my ereader wasn't smoking (although I was worried for a while that Turk was going to end up with blue balls!).

There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end. I'm already looking forward to future installments in this series.

This is definitely one of the best MC books I ever read.
This one is full of danger, betrayal, lust, sex and the main characters are so strong, hot men, devoted to their principles that they fell in love for each other!
The way they met totally blew my mind! That fight between two different MC members, brought their feelings and lust for each other pretty obviously, and they couldn't get their hands off the other.
The sex scenes are totally hot! The way they submit to one another is quite convincing and I loved!
After being blackmailed for their sexuality they start a journey of death, violence and life saving that will keep you wanting to know more and more!
Although this is a M/M book, the characters are so virile and I truly love that the author could make them that way. Awesome story!

Wow, this book has left me just about speechless. It's gritty, but that's definitely an understatement. It was wonderfully written and moved at a great pace which never became boring. I was on pins and needles through most of the story. I loved Lock and Turk and even the way that they met. They go through so much together and have many near death experiences. There's sizzling heat, betrayals, danger, violence, body parts, and a lot of fun things like that. They are great together and I loved the ending. This was a very riveting and incredible read.

4.5 Crowns.

Book 1 in The Bent Zealots MC series. This is a new series, however fans of Layla Wolfe's Bare Bones MC series may recognise some characters. You do not need to read that series to enjoy A Dangerous Reality.

As many of you know, I am addicted to MC romance. It's my thing. I Love the club politics, the grit, the violence, the alpha men and the sex. I have read many of the stories out there, some amazing, some ok, some rehashed stories under different titles and by a different author. When the opportunity arose for me to review this book I jumped at the chance. One look at that synopsis and you know it's going to be unique.

Turk Blackman is VP of the Bare Bones MC. Having been taken in by the Illuminati family, he has lived and breathed for his MC for the majority of his life. He is loyal and reliable; the one thing he isn't is truthful. Turk is gay and he has hidden his sexuality from his club to avoid putting himself and his brothers in the firing line in the very homophobic lifestyle they live in. He is tired of hiding who he is, especially as he knows that his brothers aren't stupid. Will he ever be able to live a life alongside a person he chooses to loves?

Lock Singer rides with the Assassins of Youth MC in Bullhead City. Manager of a successful bail bond business he loves the reputation he has built, and is proud that he always gets his man. Having been discharged for the Air force following a injury as well as PTSD; his clubs protocol has held him together since Iraq and kept the nightmares at bay. When he ends up in a gay club following a target, he soon finds himself remembering something within himself that he has tried to suppress. His attraction to men, wouldn't be tolerated in his club and it isn't something he is willing to except himself. He isn't gay, it was a one time thing with a man that he was thrown together with in the stresses of war... or was it?

One meeting is all it takes for 2 men in different stages of accepting their sexuality. War soon turns into passion and together they will have to navigate the dangerous waters they find themselves in. 2 separate MC's and a sexual orientation that is taboo and unacceptable in the outlaw world. When someone conspires against them and threatens to out them, they soon find themselves facing a dangerous reality.

Life will become deadly, will they survive the danger that is thrown at them? Will being together mean they have to walk away from the clubs that they are so loyal to? And is love ever enough when it is so unacceptable in the lifestyle they have chosen?

This was a bloody good book. I love a good M/M romance, to combine that with a MC book is GENIUS. It's so unique but also pretty dangerous. The writer has to maintain the level of grit, violence and all round manliness. It's a fine line and it takes a brave author to get the balance right. Often M/M books are more sex over substance and in this particular genre that is never going to work. Let me assure you now that Layla Wolfe has got that balance just right. This book is packed with club politics and the dynamics of a MC including the grit and violence we come to expect from the genre. Add to this two characters that are dealing with their sexualities and the drama that alone causes and you have a very unique and believable story.

Well done Layla, you have created a real stand out story in a difficult genre. Taking away the gay element, the club storyline is fast paced, holds your interest and is as important to the complete book as the personal issues the two main protagonists face. I am pleased to say this is definitely a substance over sex read; a M/M read that will have a broad appeal.

If you want a brilliant read that has a new twist on MC Romance, dealing with both personal and club politics this is a MUST READ!!

Let me start by saying “WOW” and don’t even think about reading this title if you have a problem with language, male-male romance or male-male interactions. This is a Motorcycle Club story – so the men are foul-mouthed, not always nice, and always ready to take offense at a slight: real or imagined. But – if you are not bothered by that, and want a gripping, sexy, steamy read that surprisingly shows a ton of heart- this is the book for you!

Layla Wolfe tells this story in alternating points of view from her two main characters: Turk and Lock. These two are raw, damaged men: both straddling the line between legal and illegal pursuits, fully vested in the brotherhood of their respective clubs, and in for a life-altering introduction.

Turk has been involved in the biker lifestyle since he was a teen: his parents were both killed by an elderly driver when he was young, and his strong sense of vengeance and survival are finely honed. The owner of a Marijuana dispensary, Turk is searching to see who is selling bogus product using his product name. Finding the lover he thought was monogamous engaged in a tryst at a gay bar was not the best night of his life. Even worse, it appears that the object of his lover’s interest is a member of a rival gang, one that is passing off swag product as his.

Lock is a relative newcomer to the bike scene: a former military man, and unable or unwilling to admit to his sexual proclivities. Lock owns a bail bonds company, as a bounty hunter he never misses a fugitive on the run. Tracking a fugitive one night led him into the gay bar where, despite his very vocal distrust and dislike of homosexuality, he finds himself handcuffed and being serviced in a back room.

Oh my giddy aunt – the language is so foul and the repeated and very vocal dislike and disdain for gays, the homosexual act and the need to dominate and control the situation are so incredibly well written that you can just see the over-compensation for what shouldn’t be shameful, but is seen as such by Lock. When Turk all of a sudden beats him down at the Laughlin rally, these two find themselves aroused yet unsure.

From here – the action and attraction just take off: combining forces Turk and Lock are struggling to conceal their attraction from their club brothers, and find themselves in a life-or-death struggle with a deviant and distasteful club member, a group of indigenous people that are being misused, a drug cartel kingpin and the difficulties of coming to terms with a relationship where neither are ‘out’, but want to be together.

I was, at first, put off by the repeated utterances of homophobic attitudes – and then I realized that Lock’s voice was one of a man unsure of his place in the world, and struggling to fit in. Yes, there is rampant homophobia in many clubs, but there is also a strong component of live and let live. A fact that concerned Turk, but he didn’t realize that his own club already was ‘acclimated’ to him, and accepted him no matter what. Even more striking was the realization that these two had found something special, long before they had the courage to speak or believe it themselves. Wolfe also showed that, despite the colors and reputations, both Lock and Turk have finely honed senses of what is right and wrong, and can see the spectrum of grey that exists between their lives with the MC and their lives in society. Before you know it, these two will have you rooting for them and hoping their plans for a life together as out and committed bikers with a new club and outlook on life’s possibilities.

I received an eArc copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
