An American journalist hoping to salvage a tarnished career and put personal problems behind her, Marty Zajac transfers from her Los Angeles news bureau to a post in Belfast to cover The Troubles in 1970s war-torn Northern Ireland. Battling corruption, censorship and sexism — along with the cold terror that accompanies every bomb blast — Marty nevertheless finds herself charmed by both the province and its people, especially one Brendan McKee. Respected community leader, poet and spokesman for Sinn Fein, the legal political arm of the outlawed Irish Republican Army, McKee is also an active member of the IRA.
Marty's assertions of neutrality begin to ring hollow as her views are shaped in the day to day drama of life in the Andersonstown community. When she is charged with terrorist activity and jailed, the journalist is faced with a wrenching choice between betrayal and survival as this tale of action, intrigue and romance builds to its heartstopping conclusion.
