Shyla Colt is the sassy USA Today Bestselling author of the popular series Kings of Chaos and Dueling Devils M.C. This genre-hoppers stories feature three of her favorite things: strong females, pop culture, and alternate routes to happy ever after. Listening to her Romani soul, she pens from the heart, allowing the dynamic characters, eccentric interests, and travels as a former flight attendant to take her down untraveled roads. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, this mid-west girl is proud of her roots. She used her hometown and the surrounding areas as a backdrop for a number of books. As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there's never a dull moment in her household. She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or tea at her side and the characters in her head for company.
I definitely enjoyed this follow up. Monster and Symone were great together, and I loved how things progressed slowly in the sex department. The care and patience needed for the trauma both sustained was honored very realistically. I also love that, much like life, the book ended with not everyone involved living happily ever after.
This Book is the best in this series IMO. I completely fell in love with Monster (Hayes) myself. What a sweet, tender, sexy, gentle giant. MUAH!!!!
One of my favortie parts of the book: “I told you, I want everything, babies, rings, you in my house and my bed every day and night." - I am loving me some Monster! *purrs*
This was a really fast, emotional, and smoking hot read! It is part of a series but can stand-alone really well. I do plan on going and reading the rest of the series now that I've read this one.
Both Monster and Symone(Taffy) have scars on the outside and in but learn how to love and help heal each other.
I adored Monster. He's very quiet and broody and knows that he scares women because of his appearance so he keeps to himself. But within Symone he finds a kindred spirit. I love how dominate and alpha he is with her but still extremely sweet and gentle. He won't let her pull away from him and what they are both feeling.
My favorite line from him is, "We can go as slow as you need. But we will go." Also when he compares himself to Gollum and she's his precious. He's just very cute and endearing with how much he cares about her and wants to help her through her struggle.
I really liked Symone too. She is very feisty and can be stubborn. Even when she is really scared she still tries to fight. She had a horrific past and is trying to deal with the scars physically and emotionally that it left.
It was ultimately a very beautiful and ugly read at the same time. Life isn't always beautiful but you can still find love. Even Frankenstein had a wife.
Desperately trying to catch up with the series. This is Symone/Monster's story.
This was a story of two people who bore scars on the inside and the outside and were able to find love and acceptance in each other. I enjoyed their story.
This book was ok, but it wasn't my idea of the perfect read. It lacked chemistry amongst the characters, and the overall storyline should have, and could have been better.
Point blank, ..... Ms. Colt needs an objective editor who will challenge her to rise to the level of writing, that she is capable of..
*I received this book free in exchange for an honest review*
This was a great read. You can't tell that it's book 4 in a series. It's definitely a stand alone. Taffy has had it bad growing up, worse than most, and she has the scars to prove it. Monster has scars of his own. These two are the most stubborn characters ever. They both want each other but won't give in, not that you can blame them. "It'll be a cold day in hell when that happens," she scoffted. Well, get ready, because a snow day is coming, baby. Monster is extremely romantic. He does whatever he can to show that to Taffy (Symone). This is a great romantic biker story! I look forward to going back and reading the rest of the series.
This is such a good addition to a solid series. This story touches on so many levels and gets it right. The handling of the story is done such an adult manor that you want to read and see this unfold. The romance sizzles off the pages right into sexy. Now I only have one request and that is for the story editing to get better.I want more of this series,I want a story for Pan and I want to just read more about this club.
The book was short but to the point. We learned why the couple had issues and how they were resolved. There is no back and forth only forward. There were a few editor errors but it did not take away from the story
I absolutely love this series! The men in these stories really know how to show true love not with just words but action and we know what's louder than words can't wait for the next story.
It was a beautiful story, two people physically and emotionally disfigured, come together and form a beautiful union. Only regret was that it was too fast paced. Absolutely love the dueling devil series! Can't wait for pan's story next!
Now I know that's not the first sentiment that comes to mind when dealing with a story centered around a motorcycle club and that whole lifestyle ; But it fits here. You can't help but fall for Monster & Symone as they claw their way out of the tar pits of their pasts and find that elusive peace, redemption, acceptance and love. I hope there's a similar path for Pan whose guilt & shame he can no longer bear. Gritty & Sweet ride. 👍
Monster is scarred on the outside but has a kind heart underneath so that disfigured skin. Damaged Symone is rescued, brought into the Dueling Devils family . The attraction between Monster & Symone could not be denied. Symone learns how to trust and love & Monster learns how enjoy life again! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! Wonderful read with a well deserved HEA !!!!!
The entire cast of characters are so interesting and diverse yet they are connected through situational ties that ground them making them more realistic, authentic and memorable. Ms. Colt is definitely one of my favorite writers and she knows how to deliver a top tier masterpiece with relatable characters and plot twists to keep you coming back for more. I am such a fan. I'm absolutely recommend this beautiful story.
Oh boy, i was not expecting that. I usually stay away from Motorcycle club type books since i don't enjoy them but this was a big surprise. This was a short story and a fast read so it was just enough to keep me turning the pages.
Warped is the story of Taffy aka Symone, former Jamaican sex slave turned office administrator of the Dueling Devils M. C.'s garage. Once there she meets Monster, gigantic mechanic who is himself scarred by his difficult past. The sparks immediately fly in this one-hundred page novella.
There were a couple of things that I liked in this story. First, I liked that Symone struggled with irrational anger at a fellow sex worker's success in escaping before Symone could. That stuck me as valid and real, and made Symone more sympathetic and fleshed out. Second, Monster's brother Pan's odd behavior is explained in a reasonable-ish way after a confession is wrung from him. It seemed to me like the author knew who her primary and secondary characters were, and what their stories were, before she began writing. That's a good thing and it came through in the writing.
But the book only received two stars from me for many reasons. First of all, the description of the moment they met was eye-rollingly cliché. To quote: "The sight that greeted him stalled his heart momentarily. At that moment, the tall, slender, brown-skinned woman made him feel like life might be returning to a battered soul. His match in every way and he wanted her instantly." For real - this is how their FIRST meeting is described. I detest insta-love in a story, even one that's only a hundred pages. Add to that the grammatical issues in the sentences (this happens a lot, as the author has a choppy, unfinished cadence to her narration) and the book is a tough one to get through.
A second issue I had with the story is how healed Symone is from her ordeal. She has zero hang ups about sex, is trusting of men (she says she isn't, but her actions don't bear that out), and doesn't have any emotional scars from her YEARS of being a literal sex slave, not to mention her torture at the hands of her captor.
In the end, Warped reads like a first draft of a novella with decent backstory but crummy follow through. I don't recommend it.
This one was a little less fast paced and it was more emotional as both the female and male lead had scars and emotional things to work out, I really enjoyed how Monster wouldn't give up and for a big, scary, man he was patient and tried to be as gentle as he could, "the harshness melted from his face. "Then you effing need to get used to it from me." He still has that alpha-maleness in him he just tries to be more gentle with it, "well, that stops now. Only bike I want you on the back of now is mine." His eyes darkened with possession." He knows how to ease his girl into their naughty times, and that's with humor, "if I get any harder babe, my d*** will turn to stone." She giggled." I can't wait to see who's next in this series.
I will say the same thing that I said for the last two books: Another short and sweet story. Don't usually use sweet with MC books, but it isn't a bad thing with this book. Had enough of a plot and good characters development that you wanted to keep reading throughout the series. But.... this was my favorite of the series. The characters were really well done. The plot was a little repetitive in spots regarding the characters personalities and thoughts, but it was ok because of the situation that was happening. It didn't bother me in this book like it does some.
i am such a sucker for this series. shyla colt sucked me in from dueling devils #1 and has kept me hooked. this one showcased the lives of symone and monster's lives and how they come together to heal each other under extraordinary circumstances. what made this story stand out for me was you had equally broken individuals who sympathized and loved the other for the other as a whole person. and of course their love scenes were hot.
Great addition to the series. I thought I would hate the heroine, because she annoyed me in the last book but wow. Ms. Colt turned the heroine around just as she changed her name. Both the H and H have scars that show up on the inside and the outside but they do a lot to get over them. Great story, my new favorite of the Dueling Devils stories.
I really felt monsters story in this story it broke me he was so distant and off the charts scary but taffy/symone had such a scared past and alot of bad demons and monsters I really enjoyed this book and believe shyla colt really did this story line justice really looking forward to more from this series
Wow, so far I've read four of these Devil books and they just keep getting better and better! Loved Monster and Taffy...both scarred, flawed but beautiful in their own way. They were able to give each other what they were missing. Loved the happy ending. Great book. On to the next one, LOL
This was a really good read. Two lost souls find each other and take it one day at a time. I liked reading how the story developed, not the usual meet and screw. This was built up with the characters taking their to me getting to know each other
My only complaint with the story line of this book is why did both of them have to be physics scared. Why couldn't a flawed person find true love with a regular person? To me it makes you think that only flawed can find flawed to find their happy ending
Warped is book 4 in the Dueling Devils, while it was not my favorite it's solid and it's good. Monster and Taffy are two damaged people from the inside to the out, they find their way to one another.
I enjoyed this story just like the other three previous ones in this series. I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed and could have played out a little longer. I am glad that Monster and Taffy/Sy were able to get together and form a bond.
