Kay Cordell Whitaker is an elder, grandmother, and the only known lineage keeper of Ka Ta See in the modern world, an ancient spiritual tradition with roots in Peru, Lemuria, and the Egyptian Mystery Teachings. For more than five decades, she has lived, practiced, and taught wisdom that was safeguarded for thousands of years and entrusted to her by her adoptive grandparents and teachers, Domano and Chea Hetaka of Peru, as well as a Berber wisdom keeper from Egypt.

As head of The School of Ka Ta See and its lead instructor, Whitaker has dedicated her life to helping people release destructive patterns, reclaim their sovereignty, and reconnect with their Song—the vibrant essence of who they are. Her teaching style is warm, nonjudgmental, and experiential, making ancient practices accessible to seekers of all backgrounds. Whether in live workshops, online classes, or through her writing, Whitaker’s mission is clear: to share the practices of Ka Ta See and the teachings of Isis so that individuals can remember their truth and weave lives of love, beauty, and freedom.

Whitaker is the author of three acclaimed books—The Reluctant Shaman, Sacred Link, and The Weavings: Dawn of a New World—each offering a deeper look into the ancient knowledge she carries. She has appeared on local and regional television, hosted a live radio program for years, and has been featured on numerous podcasts. Through her active YouTube channel and regular community talks, she continues to connect with students worldwide.

Teaching since 1987, Whitaker has guided thousands of students from across the globe—including Europe, Asia, and Australia—through ceremonies, healing practices, and the rediscovery of their own innate wisdom. Today, she continues to write, teach, and inspire through her company, A World In Balance, while also enjoying her role as a great-grandmother.

Review of advance copy received from Author
February 12, 2026
I wrote the following with great trepidation. It's my first one-star review and I'm not happy about it. When I was young, I often heard: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I try to follow it, but I was given an advance copy with the understanding that I'd leave an honest review, so that's what I'm doing.

I don't know where to start or what to say other than this read like a mish-mash of ideas from different spiritual and cultural backgrounds (other than the two mentioned in the blurb) with several common, but disconnected, mental health exercises thrown in here and there for good measure. Nothing was attributed anywhere, making it seem like these ideas came from this Ka Ta See learning, but they didn't, or not all of it, anyway. I'm not sure if that's what the author was trying to do, but it's the way it came across. It felt like the author was portraying herself like a spiritual leader of some sort, one that's recruiting followers.

The seven "no-nos" are common ideas with several being the same idea but worded in a different way. There's a lot of repetition.

There's this feeling like the author is "teaching" or "guiding" the reader with some of these exercises or suggestions, which I don't understand, as they're common things you'd learn if you'd been in therapy or read some self-help, personal development, spiritual or psychology books. For example, the story of the two wolves. It's not copyrighted or anything, I don't think, because there's a man who uses it as the basis for his podcast. (I can't remember his name.) And if you google it, it's often "attributed to Cherokee wisdom."

So, what did I like about this book? I agree with many of the ideas. Many of them are things I've read in other spiritual or psychological texts. This book is rather short. It didn't take long to read at all, maybe three hours, I think.

At the beginning of the book, the author compares our essence to a song. Her description is beautiful and the explanation that goes along with it resonated with me. It made me see myself in a new way, and for that I'm grateful.

There was an insightful story near the end of the book about someone who learned - the hard way - that they were chasing someone else's path and this spoke to me. This was described or laid out in a way that shifted my perception just enough that I "got it." Again, thank you to the author for that.

Review of advance copy received from Netgalley

I received an ARC of The 7 No Nos via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The ideas behind this book feel genuinely worthwhile. There are some strong underlying concepts here, and I could see the potential for meaningful takeaways. However, this one wasn’t for me.

I found the writing style difficult to engage with. It often felt overly inflated, as though it was trying very hard to sound impressive rather than communicate clearly. Instead of drawing me into the ideas, the language created distance. I frequently felt I was pushing through unnecessary wording, which made it hard to fully connect with what the book was trying to say.

It’s frustrating, because I do think there are good insights at the heart of it. With a tighter, more natural writing style, the message might have landed much more effectively

Kay has masterfully taken ancient teachings thousands of years old and transformed them into a fresh, accessible book and set of practices perfectly suited for our modern world. The 7 No Nos are truly for everyone—no exceptions.

It’s thrilling to have a book like this out there. I can already envision a future where we teach these simple, profound principles to our children alongside their ABCs.

The practices themselves are not only enjoyable—they’re transformative. The moment you start doing them, you can actually feel a shift begin.

Immense gratitude to Kay for sharing these timeless teachings and powerful practices with us all.
