What a cute, yummy book. Sexy, damaged, Irish, ex- MMA fighter? Yes please! I really enjoyed this book. From the first page I fell in love with Rory. God he was dreamy. I also really liked Clare. She was sweet, sassy and a little vulnerable. I loved their relationship and I loved Rory's family. This book was a sweet feel good read with just enough action thrown in to keep it from slowing down and being over the top sweet. I do wish the epilogue would have gave a little more of a peek into their future. I can't wait to read the next book!

Breaking a Legend is book one in the brand new Kavanagh Legends series by Sarah Robinson. This series is off to a great start and promises to keep us entertained for a long time to come as we get to know the sexy Kavanagh brothers. In this first book, we are introduced to Rory, the eldest of the brothers, as he deals with the loss of a promising career as a fighter and how it took Clare coming into his life and opening his heart to finally enable him to find his way again.
Rory Kavanagh thought he had it all. His career as an MMA fighter couldn’t be going better. But one mistake changed everything. Now, a year later, he still struggles with the pain from that day and uses alcohol and pills to dull both the physical pain and the emotional scars. His best friend is his constant companion, a rescue dog he adopted and rehabilitated, Ace. Rory had a reputation for his constant one night stands but the night he first saw the new tiny little blonde bartender at his family’s favorite bar, he knew she was something different.
“He liked Clare, and he had no intention of breaking her heart. What he wanted was to possess it.”
Clare Ivers moved to New York to start a new life. She had so many secrets she left behind in California. All she wanted was a fresh start. She didn’t want or need a man in her life. She just wanted to stay invisible. But something about Rory Kavanagh made her feel safe and comfortable. When he started showing up at the bar every night to walk her home, she knew she should resist but she just couldn’t.
“Clare, pull yourself together. Repeat, I do not want to date Rory Kavanagh. I do not want to kiss Rory Kavanagh. I do not want to jump Rory Kavanagh…I at least want to jump Rory Kavanagh.”
Rory doesn’t like who he has become over the past year. Clare doesn’t hesitate to point out what he has let his life sink to. With Clare, Rory can see a glimmer of what he could be without the drugs and alcohol but does he have the strength to give it up?
“He found himself wanting to remember who he was, and he had a feeling that he could do that only through her eyes.”
Clare and Rory are exactly what each other needs at exactly the right time. I loved this Kavanagh family. This is a huge Irish family with strong parents and even stronger sons. Their life revolves around the gym they own and operate, Legends. This is where Rory used to train to be a fighter and where now his brother is training. Claire has never had a big family so she suddenly finds herself thrust into the midst of this big family and thrives in their midst.
Just when she thinks that her life might be settling into something wonderful, though, the past has a way of coming back to haunt you and that is exactly what happened. Is she strong enough to trust in Rory and his family to help her or will she run again, give it all up and try to start again fresh somewhere else?

“That’s all trust is, she thought. Trust is just a choice. Someone can’t earn your trust if you don’t choose to let them, to give them the chance to show you.”
I loved getting to know Rory and Clare. They were perfect together. Their chemistry was hot and steamed up the pages. The Kavanagh family promises to keep us entertained for a long time to come as we get to know Rory’s brothers. I wonder who Sarah will feature next in Saving a Legend?

Breaking a Legend is the first of the Kavanagh Legends Series. The Kavanagh Clan is an Irish Family living in Woodlawn, New York where they own the Legends Training Gym. Each brother is uniquely passionate about their family and the women in their lives!
"We're a very accepting family. Unless you hurt one of us-then you should probably run and hide."
Rory Kavanagh is the oldest of the Irish clan. He is known for his success as a professional MMA Fighter. Rory was recently injured in a fight and has lost everything because of the injury to his leg. He is no longer able to do the only thing that he loves. Because of stress and depression, he has turned to drinking, women, and prescription drugs to fill the void that the loss of fighting has left.
Clare Ivers is new to the Woodlawn Community. She has made her way by tending bar at the local pub. When she meets the infamous Rory Kavanagh, there is an instant connection between the two. She is so taken with him, it takes a huge amount of willpower to remind herself to stay away. She did not move to New York for romance. However, when Clare decides to take a self defense class at the Legends Gym, she and Rory begin to see more of each other. It becomes evident that these two are meant to be.
"Clare, I'm swinging in the dark here. I've no clue what I'm doing. All I know is that this is different. I don't want to just have one night with you. I think I might want every night with you."-Rory
The relationship starts as friends. Rory walks Clare home from work every night and their friendship quickly develops into something more. However, the road to a happy ending isn't smooth for Clare and Rory. They both are harboring secrets that will ultimately hurt each other. Clare has been running from an abusive ex and Rory has been trying to overcome is dependency on alcohol and prescription drugs. Will Clare be able to escape her past? Can Rory find the inspiration in Clare to give up his dependency on the things wrecking his life?

What is most refreshing about this read is the family dynamics. The characters are well developed and care deeply for each other. The writing style is natural and fluid. The love connection happens pretty quickly between Rory and Clare and yet the journey they take together is slow and steady. Although I feel this plot "idea" has been explored in other reads, this author offered a fresh perspective to the conflict. The story is told in dual POV. Additionally, I cannot fail to mention the explosive chemistry between Rory and Clare. The steam factor in this read is certainly off the charts! The fighting action was realistic and the tenderness between Rory and Claire had me swooning the entire read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Fighter Romance. This was my first Sarah Robinson book and I assure you it will not be my last. I can't wait to meet the next Kavanagh brother! Bravo Ms. Robinson!

This story was a pleasant surprise!!!
In a world that whenever you are looking there is a book with MMA fighter, this book would totally worthing your time...
I had a real great time while i was reading it and i must confess that i really loved Rory Kavanagh and his dog, Ace, even more!!!
Rory "Knockout" Kavanagh was a legend in MMA fighting world. But after an injury toward a match in the Cage, his career abruplty came to an end.
Now, one year later, Rory is not the same man as he used to be before the injury. He drinks a lot, he fucks meaningless women a lot and he takes drugs a lot with the excuse of his pained leg.
He is living in a world of pain and remorse... He is trying to keep in a distance his loving family and he gets himself in lots of troubles...
Everything are changing when appears in the scenary Clare...
Clare is new in town. She is working in a pub and her biggest dream is to become a veterian... But her plans had put on hold because she had to run away from her previous life. A life that was coddemneing for her... Now, she feels more free to do whatever she want, but the fear is always lurking around her. She doesn't need anyone to tell her what she will do and definetely, she doesn't need a man by her side...
But Rory Kavanagh is changing everything inside her...
I really liked the way that those two came closer...
The accompanying in her house after work, the self-defensive classes, their first date...
I liked the way that Rory started to change and all of that because of Clare's appearance.
He wanted to be the best for her, he wanted to give her everything...
I liked this protective insticts which was surrounded from possessions marks...
Kind of funny this mixture right??? What can i say??? He was a sweet alpha male.
Clare was appeared a dynamic woman who knew what she wanted but deep down inside was a scared little girl. In her youth and while she remained an orphan she made some mistakes and now she is trying to hide away from them... Rory makes her feel safe but is it enough????
Except the above, i would like to reffer in this crazy Irish clan who's name are Kavanagh.
I really liked all of them and they were too many of them...
I liked how close were to each other and how they care for all the other members of the family...
I can not wait to find out more about them...
And finally, i can not forget Ace.
I love all kind of dogs and really the appearance of Ace in this book was my favorite highlight...
I liked the way Sarah had put him inside the story... He was everywhere and he was like a real member of the Kavanagh family. He had a rough life before Rory got him and he deserved every ounche of love that he was getting. He was an adorable, clever and very brave dog.
Also i loved that there was this connection between Clare and Rory and the shelter.... It touched me in a deep level... Thank you, Sarah!!!

3 FIGHTING IRISH STARS
I was all of over reading this because I simply can’t resist an MMA fighter and Irish to boot!!
Rory Kavanagh is the oldest of a large Irish family and also a former MMA Champion who was injured in his prime.
After almost a grueling year of therapy, Rory knows his professional fighting days are over. To cope with this loss, Rory numbs his anger and pain with alcohol, drugs and sex.
His interest is piqued when he meets Clare Ivers. New in town, Clare is hiding out from an abusive ex and trying to put back the pieces of her life. Clare is attracted to Rory but also timid and emotionally scarred. She has secrets in her past that we don't learn about for a while.
Rory was easy to fall for with his all-out Alpha ways and his protectiveness for Clare. Their relationship was a slow build, which made total sense given they are both dealing with so much. This book covers some heavy issues of domestic abuse and addiction. Overall, this was a good read and the Kavanagh's are a interesting clan. I enjoyed Casey, Rory's sister and her sass and wit and I also enjoyed the banter between the brothers.

His interest is piqued when he meets Clare Ivers. New in town, Clare is hiding out from an abusive ex and trying to put back the pieces of her life. Clare is attracted to Rory but also timid and emotionally scarred. She has secrets in her past that we don't learn about for a while.
Rory was easy to fall for with his all-out Alpha ways and his protectiveness for Clare. Their relationship was a slow build, which made total sense given they are both dealing with so much. This book covers some heavy issues of domestic abuse and addiction. Overall, this was a good read and the Kavanagh's are a interesting clan. I enjoyed Casey, Rory's sister and her sass and wit and I also enjoyed the banter between the brothers.

This book was a very enjoyable read. I loved Rory and his domineering alpha ways, especially his protective attitude toward Clare. It’s a story set with a MMA/fighter character and a girl who’s haunted from mistakes of the past and has run away from an abusive ex-boyfriend. Clare is brave and is the perfect match for Rory who’s battling his own demons and is trying to find himself after a severe injury he had on the ring a year ago. Rory is struggling with drugs and alcohol and as soon as he meets Clare, she becomes the center of his life and his heart. She becomes his rock, supporting him to break the bad habits.
Rory was everything I could want in a book boyfriend, alpha, sexy, protective, possessive, caring MMA fighter. He does everything he can to protect Clare and teach her self defense techniques and Clare does everything she can to help Rory get back on his feet. There aren't so many crazy hot sex scenes, it’s still made me totally hot and swoon over this man. He may have this super hard exterior when it comes to strength but he opens himself to Clare in a way he has never done before. The author does an amazing job of reeling you in with three dimensional characters and superb storytelling. I loved this book and I think everyone will like it.

What type of Legend are we talking about?
I’m not getting the title Breaking a Legend. Is it because the gym’s called Legends? The gym didn’t seem broken to me. Is it because Rory the main character had his leg broken in his last fight? Maybe it was because he’s a broken man who’s a druggie, alcoholic manwhore and reached Legend status with the ladies? No, no…it was probably because a Kavanagh, ex Irish Mafia dude had a son who became a cop…that’s got to break a legend. I could be completely off the beaten track, maybe it could be in reference to Clare and her breaking away from her abusive ex who must be a legend to have the California police under his power and control.
Clare has moved from California to escape the evil clutches of her ex-boyfriend. It doesn’t get clarified or explained until the second half of the story what Travis the ex had done and what she was escaping from. I wanted to understand why she was so down on herself, there was too much of he's too good for me dribble.
Rory was a very high ranking MMA fighter until he is badly hurt in a match. His recovery is long and to overcome the pain he becomes addicted to alcohol and pain killers. Rory is feeling very sorry for himself and thinks that the drugs and alcohol are the only thing to get him through. His family can see his self-destruction but feel helpless in knowing how to get him straight.
That’s OK because Clare saves the day. No rehab for this guy, he has Clare telling him to buck up and get with the program…so he does. If only the Kavanagh family had found a pretty blonde sooner, all of their problems would have been solved. He didn’t even have to go through detox…it was a miracle.
I’m going to wade into the protection debate for 2 seconds… The guy was a known manwhore, why didn’t she check if he used protection with his previous hook ups? Not that that should have stopped her from demanding it anyway. In this day and age, I thought unprotected sex was an accident, not something you’d consciously do hoping the chicks on the pill. He asks after the second time of unprotected sex if she’s on the pill. A little late don’t ya think???
I know it seems like I’m hammering this story, but it wasn’t all bad. The Kavanagh family were actually quite funny and sweet. It was also lovely to see Rory’s softer side with his treatment of his dog Ace and the shelter where he volunteers at. If you have any issues with animal cruelty, it does touch on the subject. Not all bad, but way too many dodgy things that drove me crazy.

With full disclosure, I jumped into this series with the second book, Saving a Legend. From the first moment with this Kavanagh family, I was all in. Sarah Robinson crafted a family so strong and caring, I wanted to be part of it. And the fact, the men involved were fighters of all types with an emphasis on the MMA World was a huge draw.
This opening story focused on Rory Kavanagh and his feeling of loss..loss of his fighting career in the cage due to an injury which has closed that door. When Rory was in the cage, he was alive. When he had the backing of his fans and family, he was untouchable. He knew who he was...
Now Rory is lost. He hasn't figured out where he stands in the world and in his family. He is fronting he is ok but he is giving in to quick fixes that are dulling the pain. As he is at the neighborhood bar, his gaze locks onto the new bartender... wow she is something else...a vision and tough, a no play gal. She is special in his eyes and as he gets to know her... he is turning a corner in his darkness...this woman may be his way to the light.
Clare has come to this part of New York to getaway. She is bidding her time, waiting to decide on her next move because she has something ugly which is searching her out. She should be leaving this place and moving on to save herself but flirting and chatting with Rory is so addictive. He is there all the time wanting to break through her walls by looking out for her and walking her home. At one point, Clare gives in to her feelings for Rory, and when that happens... Watch Out...

I was so happy to step back and read the first book after loving this series. I cannot recommend this series enough. It is full of heart, struggles and challenges, redemption, and couples who are equals every single time.

This one is a great New Adult series to start and I'm surely gonna read the rest of the series. If you love books with badass MMA Fighters in it, I recommend this one.
Rory Kavanagh is a famous Irish MMA Fighter. He made a promising career out of it until one match changes his entire career when he had a bad injury during his match. He underwent physical therapies during his recuperating period and his injury caused a major reputation on his career. After a year, he still feels pain on his injured leg and as a way of numbing it, he tends to drink a lot and take his pain medications. He is totally a messed up. He tends to party a lot, hooked up with women and seems lost.
Then he met this girl who changed his life…
Clare Ivers is a young, charming, beautiful California girl but moved to New York to start a new life after her parents passed away. That's not all, she runs away from his abusive ex-boyfriend. Since then, she's not dating anyone because she feels unsafe. She attends a self-defense class on Legends which is owned by Rory's family. Meeting Rory and getting to know him makes her feel comfortable. She trusts him and found a safe haven. The guy might look scary and tough, but he has a big heart filled with passion.
I really like this book because of its great character developments, romance and plot. I really like the Kavanagh family. They have a strong family bond and all of them are supportive to Rory despite of his bad injury. They constantly motivated him and I simply adore the Kavanagh brothers: Kane, Quinn and Jimmy. Talk about hot men in this book as well as their cousin, Casey.
The characters here are flawed but I'm charmed by their personality. Let's start with Rory. At first I'm a bit skeptical about him because of how the way he acts but his love for animals just made me love his character more. Taking care of an injured dog from animal shelter and became his companion just captivated me. As for Clare, she's bubbly, charming and a little sarcastic (but adorable) woman is surely likable and she's not a whiny heroine.
Despite of their issues, I love how they battle their own demons. Their love story is really entertaining and they have a great chemistry. A wonderful start for the Kavanagh series! I haven't read any books by Sarah Robinson. I'm glad this is my first and I will surely check out her other books.

Wow, what an amazing family of serious hot MMA guys and one sister/cousin. Rory's leg injury reminded me of watching Joe Theismann's career ending injury. Rory battled back from it and trains his brother. Clare was running from a vicious ex, and was afraid that her ex would hurt Rory...bahahahaha. Rory and Clare were explosive together.
I can't do five stars because

So the release date for this book is the end of September. I didn't think I'd get a chance so color me fucking happy that I did. 3.5 Mhuirín Stars.
Fact is that I can't deal with white collar romances about millionaires/billionaires they drive me bat shit crazy. So books like this are my one of my favorite, tortured soul, down to earth modest and lives where he grew up. Heroine is also down to earth as well.
Rory Kavanagh is smoking hot and the oldest of five brothers. Quinn, Jimmy, Kane and Kieran. His father is a former boxer and former Irish Mafia. We meet the whole Family so we'll know what will be in store for the future. But they are not the good Irish Catholic Family they make out to be. ;-)
Rory was a MMA fighter. He was too cocky when it came to his last fight and now pays the price with his leg being injured which has left him incapable to function properly. He probably could if he didn't have substance abuse poblems.
Clare is on the run and we see slight glimpses of what it could be. She works at O'Leary's Pub where she meets Rory, a drunk Rory. They have a spark and with time it turns to something more.
There was a slow build to the relationship. I loved the relationship that Rory had with his dog Ace. I loved that Rory would wait for Clare after her shift and walk her home this continued til about 40 % of the book with encounters at the gym as well which were full of banter.
"If you wanted to say me again, all you had to do was ask for my number the other night." - Rory -
I figured by stalking you and plowing right into your chest would be a more memorable experience." -Clare-
Rory knew that Clare was feisty not easy had pride and spirit. Clare knew that Rory had a softer side and a heart of gold.
Clare knew that he had an alcohol problem but isn't okay with the other substance abuse because of her ex. I couldn’t really fathom what was up with her as her background is so vague. What a double standard. I get that she didn’t want to go down the same road again but communication woman is important. But in the end It is all about making a change and that actually it should be done for onesself and not for anyone else. I didn’t really get that vibe off Rory.

Rory Kavanagh is the oldest Kavanagh child and one of the best MMA fighters in the world. One fight, one moment, one hit has forever changed his life. He doesn't know how to live a life where he's not a fighter, so he turns to pills, booze and women to help him deal with his new reality.
Clare Ivers is running from her past. She's landed in Woodlawn hoping to start over. She's tired of living in fear and ready to take back the reigns on her life. A self defense class at Legends brings the rowdy Kavanaghs into her life, but more importantly, Rory Kavanagh.
The two quickly feel at ease with each other and form a friendship. Clare brings out the protective side of Rory. He finds himself not only wanting to take care of Clare, but to help her take care of herself. Clare encourages him to be thankful for what he has and to stop throwing daily pity parties. He needs to be an active participant in his life and appreciate the wonderful family that loves him.
...with every conversation it was as if he was remembering something he had long ago forgotten. He found himself wanting to remember who he was, and he had a feeling that he could do that only through her eyes.
Clare and Rory had an effortlessness about them. They clicked naturally right from the beginning and I liked that there was little drama between them. The author could have created unnecessary back and forth or cat and mouse games, but there was none of that here which I loved.
Also, with Clare's history, she could have easily fallen into one of two categories: (1) the stubborn heroine who hides her past and now feels like she doesn't want or need anyone or (2) the weak and vulnerable heroine who lets her fear run her life and cowers at the thought of facing the world. Thankfully, Clare was neither of those things....which was very refreshing. For the most part she was rationale, mature and quite endearing. She didn't play any games with Rory or anybody else.
Unfortunately, I struggled a little bit with Rory. He's written as this possessive and dominant Alpha male, however it's as though the author didn't fully commit to it. There were times where Rory's thoughts and actions came off "young" and insecure and not like that of a strong, assertive man. He firmly planted himself in Clare's life in a sexy and dominant way, but later had internal battles on whether she'd be okay with him calling her his "girlfriend." Someone who was firm on walking her home late at night after work to protect her, wouldn't wax poetic and sigh like a schoolgirl at the fact that she allowed him to call her his girlfriend.
Also, I struggled a little with the writing. It was a bit stilted and at times came off a bit too formal. One too many uses of the word "jested." Just say tease...that's what you mean. Put the thesaurus away. Also, I don't know any 27 year-old who is going to say that they feel "melancholy." At least not many these days....maybe in the days of yore....or yesteryear.
And what may not bother others, but is a little pet peeve of mine is contractions. Don't say "he is," "you are," "I am," or "he will," if you mean he's, you're, I'm, he'll, etc. Again, no one talks like that unless they're in a job interview or meeting the Queen.
Overall, this was a solid start to a new MMA fighter series. I quickly fell in love with the Kavanaghs, especially Kane and Casey (particularly Casey...I hope as the lone girl, she gets herself a great guy) and am looking forward to reading about every one of them. Kieran is next, and man oh man, I can't wait to see what the story is there!

What these two find together is a level of peace and understanding. The chemistry they feel is worth the risk of change for both of them. Only when the past comes back to haunt them, will they crumble or preserver?
Now for the nitty gritty.
I had a great time with these two. Funny banter, crazy boisterous family, sexy build up and longing….until around the 85% mark. I am not a fan of a weak alpha, and in keeping with a spoiler free review I’ll just say that a few hours of misunderstanding does not, and should not, cause the alpha to revert back to bad habits. So with that little plot twist, my opinion of Rory shifted down a notch.
All in all I did thoroughly enjoy this read and loved the ending, especially the buildup for the next book in this new series. So many siblings, so many books to come.

I'm so glad I got the chance to read such an amazing story. It's above all a journey to re-find purpose in life after a tragic loss.
Rory and Clare's story starts with them meeting in a bar where Clare, after moving to get away from her abusive ex, starts working as a waitress. Unfortunately, Rory doesn't make a good first impression on Clare, since he's drunk and high on pills for his injured leg that ended his professional boxing career. Luckily for them they meet again and this time under better circumstances in his family's gym, where Clare is taking self-defence classes and Rory begins training his brother for the upcoming boxing event. Sparks fly and Rory and Clare become gradually closer. But soon, they realise that they will have to deal with their own demons, if they want to make their relationship last.
"Trust is just a choice. Someone can't earn your trust if you don't choose to let them, to give them the chance to show you. "
I loved seeing their journey of growth and strenght. I also liked the secondary characters, hope they get their stories, too. And Ace I absolutely adored (Rory's dog).
This is definitely a read I'd recommend.

I loved seeing their journey of growth and strenght. I also liked the secondary characters, hope they get their stories, too. And Ace I absolutely adored (Rory's dog).
This is definitely a read I'd recommend.

This is my first time reading Sarah Robinson I did enjoy her writing style. Breaking a Legend is the first book in her Kavanagh Legends series featuring a family of five brothers.
This is Rory Kavanagh's story he is the eldest brother who was at the top of his MMA career until a serious injury destroys his dream. Rory now spends his time drowning in whiskey and sleeping around, he is the shadow of the man he used to be and he has his secrets.
Clare Ivers has come to Woodlawn, New York to start a new life she is running and hiding from her past in California and praying she is never found.
When Clare and Rory meet the attraction is immediate between them but what I found refreshing is that Rory wants to take his time getting to know Clare first. They start spending time together which was sweet of Rory making sure Clare was safe. Rory changes because of Clare by making some changes for the better in his life.
Along with getting to know Rory and Clare we also meet the rest of the Kavanagh family as well as Ace the dog. This has romance, some steam, sexy alpha males and some suspense.
This would have been a 4* for me except for these points that annoyed me.
No condoms - not even discussed and he had slept around before Clare, he was Catholic but still.
Something happens and I felt that Rory a tough guy gave up without even trying and went back to his old ways to easy.
When Clare gets into a situation I felt she was weak after everything she had learnt she hardly tried and then just gave up.
I will continue to read this series as I want to get to know the rest of the brothers.

When Clare needs perspective she only needs to look to Casey for it, "what about Rory? The way he looks at you, I’m sure he would be fine taking up all your energy,” Casey suggested. Then her face immediately twisted up. “And now I’ve grossed myself out." Rory can be a romantic guy in his own way, or he just gets jealous easily, "Clare, you’re not training with anyone but me. There is no way in hell I’m letting another man have his hands all over you.” His voice was so deep she could feel it in his chest where her hand was resting." He sure knows how tonight a lady's panties wet, "that was me unable to stop myself from effing you, and enjoying every second of it.” His eyes blazed." I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward for the other brothers to get their own story.

3 - "I like to do things a little different." Stars!
I think a publisher is doing it's author a bit of a disservice when adding comments like the below to entice readers to give a book a go, and it seems to be the common thing lately.
Perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Monica Murphy
Because, they are immediately giving the reader high expectations of what they are potentially about to read, particularly if as the reader you are a huge fan of the authors works that the book is being likened to, and a lot of the time it is totally misleading.
For me, pretty much every time it leads to my expectations not being met and disappointment, and I kind of feel bad that I didn't enjoy the book more because of it. I want to judge an author on their work and not because it is supposedly similar to another authors writing or books.
I liked Breaking a Legend the Kavanagh family is large and diverse, and Rory on his own is battling a wealth of demons and dealing with a mountain of issues. But here is where my main niggles began, because for all of his issues, they weren't really looked at as more than a filler in the story, the prologue and the first chapter gave the impression that this was going to be a dark and gritty tale of an ex MMA fighter trying to figure his way in the world after a career ending injury, and the woman that helps him deal with and overcome his addictions... But as soon as Clare became a fixture in his mind and bed, it all seemed far too easy for them to become a non-issue.
He trusted her implicitly, though for the life of him he couldn't figure out why.
This was my other problem, the speed of development between Rory and Clare was a bit unexplained, they went from a bit of banter in the family bar to him deciding to sign up for a Commitment card after only ever being a one and done guy prior to Claire's arrival, she didn't really come across as that special, and although likeable nothing really made her stand out to me, and bearing in mind her past, the speed in which she gets together with Rory didn't really seem in keeping with that.
So you have the relationship between them going at the speed of light, but then Claire's reasons for moving into their Bronx neighborhood, being expanded on then going at the pace of a snail... And I kind of struggled to understand why Rory, who inquisitive in all other areas of her life didn't really push this.
"Damn woman, you're a fucking emotional rollercoaster."
This isn't a bad book, there are areas that needed development, areas that could have been totally removed unless given more focus. It's a little predictable, especially the second half, and that wouldn't have been an issue if the flow of the rest of the story had been steady. It was well written in the main and I like the premise that the rest of the Kavanagh's will get their stories told whilst in and around the family gym Legends.

When I first saw this go up on Goodreads, I was like OMG!! A new Sarah Robinson series??? YES PLEASE!
Then it showed up on my kindle and I was like... this... is...PERFECTION, because I knew this would be another heart wrenching read as Robinson always delivers.
And Rory? My new book boyfriend for sure. I adore Clare as well, but Rory.... the perfect alpha! And I love how imperfect they are! This story is realistic, it's flawed people falling in love. That's what real life is. Their love and HEA, it's all wrapped up and perfect, no cliffy, yet somehow still leaves room for more. I'm hoping we will see Rory and Clare in the future in the brother's books.
Even better than that is the Kavanagh family! They're pretty much a character all on their own. It's probably one of the strongest, most intriguing, families I've ever read in a book before and I'm super excited that future books in this series will be about each brother.

Great MMA book and a very well written book that can hopefully launch a Kavanaugh series! Two lost souls finding each other in a very unique way that I prefer over some of the formula fiction any day. I admired both characters and was fighting for them the whole way through. I fell in love with this family immediately. The whole range of feels here too; solid read. Highly recommend!

The Good : The blurb really pulled me in. I loved the thought of seeing two wounded souls dealing with their issues, and if one of those souls is housed in a hot MMA fighter hero, all the better. Rory’s injury was horrific and led him down the path of booze and pills to forget the pain and the loss of his career. Clare’s had her share of pain and is doing all she can to escape her horrible, abusive ex. The buildup for the story was good and I was in for the ride.
The Kavanaughs and their little corner of the Bronx almost has the feeling of a small town and there’s potential with the rest of the brothers (of course there are several just waiting for their turn at love). I think my favorite part was Ace, and the scenes involving working with abused animals. Those were the best and really showcased Rory and Clare’s best attributes.
The Just Okay : Unfortunately, the spark wasn’t as strong as I’d hoped it would be between Rory and Clare. Perhaps it was a few too many references to their insta-connection and how they didn’t really know why it was so different between them but it was. When the characters make comments like “I feel this [insert intense thing here] but I don’t know why” then usually I, as the reader, don’t know why either.
I can get into a story that has unbelievable elements easily. I mean, I just read a book with a 35 year old virgin mercenary, so clearly I’m willing to suspend disbelief. However, the one thing that must ring true is the romance. Since that didn’t click for me, when it came time to suspend disbelief that Rory could overcome his addictions simply through his love of Clare, it fell kind of flat. I was mostly disappointed with the missed opportunity to really give the story some depth through Rory's struggle to stay clean, and how Clare's past could play into that. What was done was mostly surface. The drive towards the end was a bit slow and the entire story with Clare’s ex felt somewhat underdeveloped, since we don’t really find all the details until the end and even then it’s just sketched out.
It was an ok read. That said, the setup for the series isn’t bad, I would probably give it another shot and see what happens with the other brothers.

5 Heartfelt, Amazing Stars
Wow.......this is my first read by this author and I am just amazed and in love with her writing! The storyline was great, it was intense, it was heartbreaking, but most of all, it was about finding one's self all the while finding the other half of their heart, a true soul mate:) The slow build-up was amazing, I enjoyed seeing how Rory took his time as he realized how special Clare was becoming to him. He put her above all else and the way he handled her was beautiful! I want a Rory for myself, lol, he was an extraordinary man and I so loved how Clare saw exactly that about him. They were definitely meant for each other.
I loved both characters, Rory and Clare, they were absolutely perfect for each other! Their chemistry was off the charts and the slow-build-up was phenomenal and done ever so right. Both characters have heartbreak in their past and the way they find themselves as well as their way to each other was beautiful and sensual. I adored them, I admired them, I loved how much they believed in each other and I loved that they both brought out the absolute best in each other. Their sexual chemistry was HOT and I mean, they sizzled.
I enjoyed the secondary characters as well and I cannot wait to read each and every one of their stories in the future! Congrats Author Sarah Robinson on a brilliant story that I will cherish always. I am now an official fan and will be putting you on my go-to list for sure.

Alpha male down on his luck and a girl running from her abusive crazy ex anddddddd we're off. The book was pretty good. Although the main characters owns a gym and he's now training his brother, there isn't much fighting in the book. Not insta-love, but damn close to it. They were immediately drawn to each other, I guess you can say. Rory wasn't a cheating jerk so he's ok in my book.

Clare gives Rory something to fight for. She has a past that haunts her but Rory is helping her heal. He is in need of love and care as well. He has lost his career and a little of himself along the way. The mcs have a good vibe going. Clare is funny and sweet and just what Rory needs. his family is hilarious. I really enjoyed the glimpse into their world and look forward to reading about the next brother or cousin :)

I really liked this story but there were things that annoyed me slightly to which it lost half a star. Breaking a Legend gets 4.5 legendary stars from me. I couldn't help but compare this story to that of The Hurricane by RJ Prescott considering the hero's ethnicity and MMA background and the heroine's own dark issues she's been running from. The story lines are very similar and I'm sure anyone who reads both will notice it pretty quickly.
Rory broke my heart for a bit because he lost his ability to do what he was most passionate about due to one fight's injury. He lost himself in pain medication and alcohol. He was surly and angry. He was a lost soul that needed someone to really get to him and bring him into the sun. Rory was human in that he had many flaws and struggles. He felt real rather than a character which I liked.
Clare was running from her past and happens to fall into working at a local pub where Rory frequents and his family has ties. She can't help but be attracted to him because Rory is attractive, confident, conflicted, and more. He's protective, walks her home at night, and secretly sweet, donating his time to the local animal shelter. Clare's past and Rory's addiction threaten to tear them apart before they truly have a chance at happiness.
Anyhow, I liked that this story dealt with substance abuse because it is something so many people ignore. I found the writing to be on a decent level to where I didn't find myself constantly groaning at how juvenile it was. I felt there was some pieces missing like how the ending felt rushed and things weren't completely fleshed out as they could have been.

I loved this book. It had many of the great qualities of a good romance: handsome alpha male who is usually a manwhore, strong female who not looking for love, and some great angst and sexiness thrown in. It had something more: it had some down to earth issues tackled.
Rory may be panty dropping handsome, but there is more to him than that. He’s complex and dealing with issues that are real. He’s far from perfect and he has a lot of pressure from his family. One look at Clare, he sees something he’s been missing. I think the sexiest thing about him is his wiliness to change.
Clare is trying to get her life together. She makes a conscience effort to start with herself. Walking into Legends Gym to take self-defense is a huge step in the right direction. As she continues to get her life in the right direction, she meets Rory. She’s not looking for love, but something about Rory allows her to trust him. They grow together over several months, learning to love and trust. It’s quite beautiful.
The story unfolds with romance, lightheartedness, suspense and good family drama. The Kavanagh family is an Irish family with five rowdy boys and a cousin/sister. While they are very close, they are also issues like every family. The Kavanagh family is as much a character as Rory or Clare.
