THIS IS WHAT I WANT FROM ROMANTASY!!!! Listen I loved quicksilver but somehow this was even better?!!!! The characters, the plot, the world, the romance EVERYTHING JUST LEVELED UP!!!! I’m reeling I tried to savor this but simply couldn’t I INHALED THIS!

I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t go into to too much detail but that ENDING?!! Guys I had to reread that last chapter three times to understand the significance of it fully and I’m not gonna lie I still have so many questions because WTF?!!!! But I will say I was expecting emotional turmoil and I’m happy to report that was not at all the case. The ending was PHENOMENAL and I was so stressed the last 10% but I’m so happy it didn’t leave on a devastating cliffhanger. Like I need book 3 but emotionally I’m satisfied and chillin.

KINGFISHER GUYSSSSSS NOO. No no no no. I can’t. Being in this man’s head had me ready to combust every other page. His mouth. His love and devotion to Saeris. Guys no. The spice?!!! There’s a reason why he’s one of my favorite fictional men. I will never recover. Like I’m still sweating. And speaking of him and Saeris THEIR ROMANCE IN THIS?!!!! Immaculate. Chefs kiss. No notes. Perfection. I love them. This is fated mates done RIGHT!! Oh and don’t even get me started on Saeris I’m obsessed with her as an FMC she is such a baddie and I loved watching her come into her power and grow and let down her walls with Fisher. She was iconic in this.

The found family and cast of characters in this is one of the reasons I’m so attached to this series. They are everything to me. I NEED A CARRION BOOK MORE THAN I NEED AIR!!! Him and Fisher were everything to me in this, their banter and relationship no I love them I couldn’t stop laughing. Also Tal……. Bye I also need a book from him I’m in love with that man.

I feel like so much happened but the pacing was perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing.

That reveal at the end that I won’t mention but if you know you know… IM SCREAMING IM OBSESSED ITS PERFECT!!!!

“I’d spend the fortunes of the universe to protect you. I’d drain the seas dry. Fell every tree. I would sacrifice the sun from the fucking sky and surrender the stars, too, if I could. But those things aren’t mine to give. All I have is my life. It isn’t much, but I’d spend it and consider the price small if it meant keeping you safe.”

“I had no idea what you would mean to me. I had no idea what I would do to keep you safe. When I close my eyes, you are all I fucking see, Saeris Fane. I could be dead in the ground five thousand years and the frosts could have taken my bones, and still no other male will ever have loved another female the way that I love you.”

I cannot express how disappointed I am. There is genuinely nothing worse than the anticipation — the electric excitement after an incredible first book — only to be met with a sequel that feels like one long stretch of filler. Brimstone is exactly that. Filler dressed up as plot, stretched within an inch of its life.

I’m going to say it plainly: don’t turn a duology into a trilogy unless you actually have the content to justify it. This book did not. At all. At least 60% of it was just “they went there, then they went there, then they went there,” without any real development or payoff. With the money being put behind this series now, this simply shouldn’t have happened. It feels rushed, padded, and frustratingly hollow.

And the side characters — far, far too many of them. Most of them serve no purpose. They appear, deliver a dramatic line, and vanish again. It’s overcrowded without adding value, and the clutter drags the story down even further.

Then there’s the narrative device that made me want to fling the book across the room:
“Then the character explained the big secret to me, and suddenly I understood everything.”
Except we don’t get the explanation. And sure, you can get away with that once. But doing it twice is pushing it. Doing it three times? Absolutely not. By that point, it feels less like mystery and more like the book is actively gatekeeping its own plot.

And honestly, can we talk about the main couple? Because good grief. They only seem to come together for the smut scenes — and while that’s fine in moderation, you need an actual relationship to go with it. Chemistry requires more than proximity and convenient darkness. Give me banter, give me emotional tension, give me something that feels like genuine connection. Brimstone gives flashes of heat and then immediately separates them again, leaving no time to build anything meaningful. It’s maddening.

And after all those pages — all the meandering, the travelling, the repetitive beats — the story has barely budged from where book one ended. The stakes haven’t escalated, the plot hasn’t advanced in any satisfying way, and the momentum that Quicksilver built so brilliantly has been completely squandered.

It pains me to say it, but this instalment was a train wreck. Not in a chaotic, enjoyable way — just a deeply disappointing derailment of what started as a strong and promising romantasy.

Two stars, and even that feels like an act of mercy

Omg this was so much better than Quicksilver for me 😩😩 My expectations were high given the potential this series carries and it was delivered. But it was not perfection despite how much I enjoyed it.

I loved how it started. The beginning immediately sucked me in and it sets a great stage and rhythm for the rest of the book. But the rhythm wasn't maintained well. The pacing of the book is the only issue for me and it's a major one imo. There were bits that were so fast paced, it was almost rushed in places. Then there were chapters where the narrative drags. Yes, important conversations happen but I feel like it could have been better edited.

I loved the action, plot twists and characters in it. Kingfisher has my heart now. Like I was fully into his possessive side. That feral need and yet he's so gentle in this one?? Was that just me who thought so? Anyway, I feel like he really shined in this one. Absolutely loved him 😩

Saeris was pretty good. I liked the character growth and there's a lot of potential in her. And yet there's a part of me that feels maybe she got overshadowed by Kingfisher. Yes, she was valuable in all that she did and achieved in this. But when you focus on creating a perfect book boyfriend sometimes it can cause a bit of an imbalance when the fmc might be overlooked in her traits. But that's just my opinion.

The side characters? Tal, Foley and Lorreth were strong presences alongside Carrion. I do wish we would have seen more of Layne and Renfis. But it's not something I'll complain about. I'm quite satisfied with how this turned out.

Omg the romance. I love the chemistry between Kingfisher and Saeris. I'm not gonna spoil any theories but can I just say how Fisher killed it in this one?? Like I was on my knees and swooning hard. The man has such a filthy mouth and yet so tender when he needs to be 😩🥵🤌 The spice was off the charts 😩😩

I absolutely ate up the ending. I am speechless and it just makes me want to wish for the next book now 😩😩There was a point in it where I sobbed and read it through blurry eyes.. But I'm ngl about the name (IYKYK) it's gonna take a while to get used to. Anyhoo, I had a great time despite its flaws.

Okay… I wanted to LOVE this the way I loved Quicksilver, but Brimstone honestly felt like someone shook a snow globe of plot threads and just let them fall wherever. There was so much happening, yet somehow nothing was actually happening, and my brain was doing cartwheels trying to figure out which storyline I was supposed to care about.

The vibes between the characters were still good — that tension, that world, that potential. But the pacing? Chaotic. One chapter felt like pure adrenaline, the next felt like filler dressed in fancy clothes pretending to be important. And by the end, I kept thinking:
How did the first book feel so tight and addictive, and this one feel like its messy cousin?

It wasn’t a bad book — it had moments where I was hooked again — but it never recaptured the magic or clarity of the first. Instead of sinking into the world, I kept getting yanked out of it thinking, Wait, what are we doing again?

A decent sequel, just not the sequel it could have been.

Carrion Swift is the MVP of this disjointed, overly complicated, overly long, charmless mess of a book.

For such a popular series, the audiobook narration is shockingly bad.

The male narrator (Anthony Palmini) regularly mispronounces words, pauses in odd places, and puts the wrong emphasis on the wrong words. It's like listening to a third-grade student struggle to read out loud.

The female narrator (Stella Bloom) only seems capable of a whining monotone. Every word out of her mouth sounds flat, yet somehow also urgent and upset. No nuance, no subtlety. She reads like she's demanding to speak to someone's manager.

As for the book itself, it has very little of the already limited appeal the first book had...

Did an editor even take a pass at this before it was published? There are continuity, timeline, and writing errors galore. And about 1700 mentions of 'solar plexus'.

Partially due to the lack of editing, partially due to terrible writing, Brimstone is unnecessarily convoluted, sloppy, dull, and at least 15 chapters too long.

The notable exception is, of course, Carrion Swift. Carrion carries Brimstone. His scenes are likeable, warm, often funny, mostly entertaining. (It's not his fault the author put him in two places at the same time).

Everything in this book, is inexcusably careless:

Not enough interaction between the main characters. Not enough backstory for the side characters. Not enough believable motivation for any of the characters' choices. Far too much lore-building without enough plot.

Familiar characters barely having any connection to each other, barely showing any growth or development.

Excessive, mediocre sex scenes that feel like audience pandering, rather than natural story progression. And any book that uses the phrase 'wet folds', immediately deserves to lose at least one star.

It seems like Callie Hart fell out of love with her Quicksilver characters, and fell too in love with needlessly grandiose Brimstone story ideas. Over fifty poorly written, poorly edited chapters, very few of which do more than utterly fail to keep the reader invested.

There's already a rumor spreading, that Brimstone was at least partially written by AI. It won't be at all surprising if that rumor turns out to be true.

I had a lot of fun reading this but a few things made me raise an eyebrow.

Firstly, every woman in this book who is not Saeris or a dead/comatose relation to Kingfisher seems to fall into one of three categories: Evil Rival, Hostile or could have been interesting but is an undercooked NPC.

Can we also talk about Danya? When the poor love literally got attacked and set on fire by a zombie vampire thing and has just recovered and explains why she looks the way she does to Saeris, Saeris says, “Oh, I thought it was an edgy self-expression thing.” Saeris, mate… read the room.

That said, I did enjoy this and had a good time. My 3 stars are for Carrion Swift and Onyx. And a vampire shadow cat idk. And that ending was a straight punch to the solar plexus, mate.

If you loved it, I’m here for you, good for you.

3.5⭐️ for now rounding down, but I may change my mind the more I think about it.

I have a lot to say, so this one is going to be a bit longer than usual.

If you haven’t read this yet, I really recommend reading Quicksilver Bonus Scenes: Kingfisher’s POV first. It not only offers his point of view but also explains what happened at the Ajun gate, which I found really helpful to know beforehand.

My thoughts are a little all over the place, much like the plot and pacing of this book. There was so much happening, yet at times it also felt like nothing was happening, if that makes sense, and threads that felt like they went nowhere.

I will start with what I loved about Brimstone, which was mostly the characters. The bromance between Fisher and Carrion was pure perfection. Fisher and that mouth of his… sigh 😮‍💨. He is definitely one of my top-tier book boyfriends. Carrion remains an absolute highlight in this series and steals every scene he is in. He constantly makes me laugh, and I enjoyed seeing him take on a more active role, something I think will be even more important in the next book. Onyx the fox and Archer the fire sprite added a lot of charm as well. ❤️

While I enjoyed getting to know some of the new side characters, I was disappointed that a few of my favorites received very little page time (Ren and Lorreth).

Even though I enjoyed this book overall, I had quite a few issues with it. Although I liked Saeris more here than I did in Quicksilver, she still comes across as immature and petulant at times. The spicy scenes were very spicy, which I am completely fine with, but outside the bedroom Saeris and Fisher barely communicate and I prefer romances with a bit more emotional depth. She did not even know his mother’s name, which was weird. And yes, Fisher is hot, but Saeris describing how hot he is over and over again started to feel like filler.

The biggest issue for me was the overuse of “my mate” and “solar plexus.” It became annoyingly distracting and pulled me out of the story repeatedly. At 660 pages, cutting back on those phrases would have helped tighten the book considerably and made it feel far less repetitive. Overall, the story could have benefited from stronger editing. Even with all my complaints, I did enjoy the book. I just did not enjoy it as much as the first one, and in my opinion, it did not quite live up to what it could have been.

I alternated between the physical book and the audiobook. The duet narration was really well done, and once again, Anthony Palmini’s performance as Fisher was absolute perfection. He could read me a menu and I would enjoy every second of it.

**FINAL GRIPE IS A SPOILER SO STOP READING HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW.**

I am struggling with Fisher’s name change, but what really pulled me out of the story was how Saeris instantly adopted his new name without a single slip. Not once does she call him Fisher or Kingfisher again, and that just does not feel believable.

Unfortunately the amount of undercooked plot this book was serving up was INSANE!

I was really excited for this to come out and had so many questions still from Quicksilver that I was excited to deep dive into and hopefully get some answers and expand the story. But this just wasn’t it. I honestly don’t think we properly addressed a single thing from QS, just added more stuff.

There are so so many things I was to say about this book but I fear my rant will be endless so I’ve tried to collect the few that felt the most significant.

My main issues were that this book was 700+ pages but so much of it felt like filler and then when plot did occur it felt like a collection of random moments pulled out of thin air, dealt with, then sent back to float around never to be seen again.
Nothing was grounded or deeply rooted in the world building or our understanding of the world and therefore felt like a lot of the plot wasn’t legitimised and lacked depth. So many times the explanation to various plot points was “I don’t know why this is happening” or “oh why didn’t I think of this” or “of course”.
It felt like we were making it up as we went.

The author kept all her cards close to her chest for majority of the book and it felt like it was gatekeeping her own plot. For me a good book should have reveals sprinkled throughout the book as it creates a solid platform for you to keep building your plot on top of. It’s those big moments AND their aftermath that has your plot growing deeper roots, offering clarity and most importantly opportunity for character growth.
The characters all felt really stagnant to me and their bond as a found family lacked development and depth, yes there was a small shift here and there, but I honestly think there could have been so much more. The potential for it was 100% there. You have a lot of complex characters in this book all of which have there own background story and I couldn’t help but feel like there was so much more to dive into but so many pages and words were used up on what felt irrelevant and surface level.

This series has so many interesting and unique things to it. I’ve always been curious about the alchemy and history of the world. The potential for this book and series is HUGE, all of the pieces are there but unfortunately they haven’t really been capitalised on and fleshed out. For me the execution feels flat and one dimensional and leaves me feels frustrated because I felt like there was soooo much potential that went nowhere.

SPOILERS below 👇

A few of the half baked plot points 🍞🥖

- What was the point of Saeris becoming Queen of the Vampires when she hated it and therefore spent a good deal of time in Cahlish while Tal ran it in her stead…Only for the court to be killed off and become a nonexistent element.

- The spicy time tattoos??!? In the first book when Saeris gets her hummingbird tattoo it felt like there had to be some interesting reason as to why these appear and figured in the second book we would get some answers… only for them to just keep giving each other more and it not once being discussed or explained why this keeps happening? Are they just sex stamps or…???

- The magic system and runes. I was so curious about the Quicksilver and finding out more about Saeris’s alchemy and how it works. But we didn’t really get any deeper understanding of the magic and her runes.
Only that they need to be sealed, but no explanation on how that works what it means.
Also another issue was the sudden new magic Saeris receives. Her explosive energy and the ability to heal came out of nowhere and was never questioned or explained why she suddenly has these new powers.

- Iseabail teasing the Quicksilver out of Fishers eye. (This happens in book 1 but I thought it would be expanded in Brimstone) For 1000+ years he was unable to do anything about it only for it to be resolved off page by a side character in the last page of book 1 never to be explained or questioned in Brimstone.
I felt like this would have made way more sense if Saeris was the one to remove it. She speaks with the QS in his eye in book 1 and is also the first Alchemist/most powerful Alchemist in a thousand years, it stands to reason she would be the one to remove it?

- The dream state situation? It was later used as an element in the plot when Saeris finds Fisher half dead in his room. But why are they able to do this, are we just excepting the fact now that in all Romantasy books mates should be able to share dreams?

- Ren going missing when shits hitting the fan only for it to be allgood. What was the point?

- Everlayne being unconscious for the ENTIRE book. Felt like we could have gotten some nuggets of info from her.

- The extreme dislike of the witch clan. Whyyy????? With Lorreth constantly fuming over this it kind of feels like we should know why by now.

- Edinas book that will now help them solve all their problems. It’s an interesting idea and a nice way to bring Fishers mother into it, but just seems like a strange plot device when we are never privy to the knowledge or help it gives Saeris to solve a problem.

There were also a large number of plot holes in this as a result of half baked plot 🕳️🪏 a few keys ones being:

- Kingfisher going into pool at Ajun Sky as a boy without a relic. However it’s explicitly explained this pool isn’t Quicksilver but some other black rot like substance. Only for him to come back with Quicksilver, not rot in his eyes? 👀

- A Faes true name is a sacred and seemingly intimate thing. We learn this is a sacred thing that only a mother and their child knows. It is also gifted to a Faes spouse at marriage to show trust as it can be used to control people. So when Saeris gives Fisher his true name it would stand to reason he keeps that between them. But he then introduces himself as Khydan and the demons bro’s then call him this too.

- Saeris makes the switch to calling him Khydan by stating “he will only ever be Khydan to me now” but then refers to him as Fisher again further down the page 🤦‍♀️

- The rune the Hazarx gave Saeris ‘broke/unmade’ things and she uses it to “desiccate” the rot in the dream state to break into Fisher room. It was the only thing other than Brimstone to kill the rot (which had basically become the main villain in the majority of this book) and it was brushed over like this isn’t the answer to all their questions on how to kill it! And don’t even get me started on how it’s then used up.

- When Fisher and Carrion find Hayden they tell him Saeris is in Yvelia and he just accepts it. Saeris didn’t even know another realm existed in QS.

- The seat of honour for a Lady of the House was the right in QS but this in Brimstone it was the left. 😬

- How has Carrion managed to live in the same city for 1000 years??? Surely he would have to constantly move as he doesn’t physically age.
We have never really gotten much clarity on this but it feel kind of major oversight as we are constantly made aware that he has lived in Zilvaren for a long time and established a successful business over the years.
I believe in QS it’s mentioned that Saeris has known Carrion since they were teens, know one wondering why he looks like a never aging young man?!?!?

There were also a large number of major errors in this that I didn’t really understand how they weren’t pick up

- Carrion is mentioned to be sparring with Lorreth when he’s actually on his side quest with Fisher in a different realm.

- Elroy weirdly mentioned while Fisher is fighting off the infected feeders.

- When Saeris walks back into their room she notes the pile of sand from Fishers boots when he was in Zilvaren but it’s written as being from Yvelia.

-Fisher taking off Saeris’ shirt twice during spicy time.

- Fisher calling her Nissearia or something like that while they have sex. I wasn’t really sure if this was an error but it wasn’t mentioned again or what that even means. I thought maybe it could be her Fae name but who knows at this point.

- There were also a number of opening quotations marks missing.

Also why did I read the words solar plexus so many times.

Ok I’m done now.

I enjoyed this book, but it definitely took me longer to finish 😭 Some scenes felt like they dragged 😢

Imo, the first book was much better 🙂‍↕️ but this one still isn’t bad at all. I still had a great time reading it 🫶

Omg, Kingfisher’s real name was revealed 👀 And um… how do I put this 😭 I don’t know how I feel about it 💀 After finding out, I’m honestly starting to prefer Kingfisher as a name more 🤭

The only male character I LOOOOVED in this book was Carrion 🙂‍↕️🤭 I lowk need his book 😔 He’s sooo funny and amazing. Most of the time, my focus was on Carrion instead of Saeris or Kingfisher 🤭 What can I say?? He’s just that good. 🙂‍↕️

Another character I loved was Onyx 🤭 EEEEP!!! He’s so adorable 🥹🫶 I need him 😭🫶 But I will say… he really made me cry 😭😢 We all need an Onyx in our lives.

Saeris and Kingfisher 👀 I do love this couple 🤭 But more than Carrion?? Sorry 🙂‍↔️ That said, they are really great together 🫶 Their love for each other??? Absolutely perfect 🥹

Overall, I enjoyed this book—but not more than Quicksilver. It was a really great read, aside from the dragging parts.

That’s it 🖤 Love y’all 🫶♥️

Oh. My. God.
Sorry not sorry but I am ferally OBSESSED with everything about this book.

Kingfisher 5 stars, Saeris 5 stars, Carrion 5 stars, Onyx 5 stars. Wait, everything = 5 stars.

Completely spoiler free thoughts ahead!
I was so excited for this release and oh my gosh, it did not disappoint!! This was so hard to put down and adult, every time I was forced too, it was all I could think about! If anything it somehow exceeded all my expectations. I absolutely loved Quicksilver but this was so much better!! Callie fed us with absolutely everything we could have wanted and more! I was literally kicking my feet in the prologue!! I giggled, I screamed, I laughed, I cried & I truly spiralled with anxiety - honestly just INCREDIBLE!

Kingfisher and Saeris' love has me in a chokehold, I just love them so freakin' much. One of my favourite couples!!!
’She was breathtaking as she turned and faced the hall, her eyes lit with a galaxy of stars. She was the center of that galaxy.’

Oh and Kingfisher's mouth - YEAH, that man just knows what to say. My soul has left the building, goodbye. Off to see all seven gods.

Carrion Swift you are the MVP 🙌🏻 give this man his own damn series!

I am so immersed in this world, the plot progression, the characters and their developments, like wow, everything was elevated so well! Callie wasn't joking when she said details from Quicksilver would come into play throughout Brimstone - so many pieces connected together. This is the perfect example of a fast paced book, that isn't rushed and keeps you hooked from start to finish!! LIKE SO MUCH HAPPENED, what the helly!!! I cannot wrap my mind around all this.
This review is a hot mess because I am struggling to form thoughts and I don’t wana give anything away! Just know I’m going to be proudly insufferable about how OBSESSED I AM!!!!! We need book 3 tomorrow because I need to know what happens now??????!!!!!

The way she looked at me made me want to do better. To be better. Every day of my life, I was going to have to work my absolute fucking hardest to deserve her love and respect. I wasn’t afraid of the challenge.
___________
Pre-read: Merry Brimstone release day to those of us who celebrate! Kingfisher & Carrion I am ready for you!!! Book release day is one of the few times I live love laugh my time zone 😌

4.5🌟 I’ve seen so many mixed reviews about this sequel and I completely understand the criticism, however I personally really enjoyed this! Not as much as Quicksilver, but still I had a great time. I loved Carrions Character development, the glimpses of court politics we got in the vampire court, Saeris power developing, the revelations we got throughout this etc. etc. I wish we could’ve had Kingfisher and Saeris together more because it seemed like we only got to see them for spicy scenes and then they were immediately separated again. But guys I’m beyond excited for the next/final instalment!!

Okey okeyy… I literally need a minute because WHAT DID I JUST READ?! I… I can’t even. Saying I’m obsessed is a joke because I’m not obsessed, I’m devoured, possessed, completely consumed by this book. Every fibre of me was all in, and I’m still shaking trying to process the hurricane of feelings it unleashed.

From page one, I was ripped into a whirlwind of emotion I had zero warning for. Every. Single. Chapter. Hit. HARDER. And by the end… oh my god, by the end I felt like I had been strapped into the most insane, heart-thrashing, soul-twisting rollercoaster of my life. I laughed, I cried, I screamed internally, I practically lost my mind multiple times. This series doesn’t just tell a story, it owns you, it burrows under your skin, grabs your soul, and refuses to ever let go.

And how am I even supposed to review this?! Calmly? Organically? HA! We all know that’s not happening. I’m a mess, I’m chaotic, I’m literally vibrating with the aftershock of this masterpiece. You know me… I’m never calm.

AND CAN WE JUST PAUSE FOR A MASSIVE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THIS MASTERPIECE? BECAUSE SERIOUSLY, GUESS WHAT, AFTER ALL MY ENDLESS SEARCHING, HUNDREDS OFBOOKS, AND COUNTLESS DISAPPOINTMENTS, THIS ONE FINALLY EARNED A FULL 5 STARS FROM ME! THE STORY, THE CHARACTERS, THE EMOTIONS, EVERY SINGLE PIECE LANDED PERFECTLY. AHHHH, I’M LITERALLY SHOOK AND OBSESSED!

── .✦

I don’t even know where to start. This book completely blindsided me. I went in expecting the same pace as the first book, but what I got was an absolute full-body, soul-gripping experience that left me breathless. I’m obsessed, the kind of obsessed where you close the book and just sit there, staring at the wall, trying to comprehend how Callie Hart managed to both ruin and resurrect me emotionally in the span of a single story. The characters, their messy, raw emotions, and the intense, chaotic love had me feeling every heartbreak, every longing, every fiery argument as if it were my own. From the very first chapter, the tension, the danger, and the passion had me by the throat, and it never let go. I literally binge-read it despite being a little busy, because how am I supposed to put it down when every page drips with intensity and keeps you guessing? And now, the thought of waiting who knows how long for the next book? I can’t even. I don’t need anything else in life, just finish writing the next one already, please! My heart, my soul, my sanity, this series has claimed them all.

── .✦

Oh my god, the characters! I can’t even put into words the whirlwind of feelings they stirred in me. Every choice they made, every glance, every whispered word, I connected with it all on such a deep level. It was like I could feel their fears, their desires, their chaos as if it were my own. I totally understood their actions, even the messy, frustrating ones, and somehow that made me adore them even more. They’re raw, real, and unforgettable, and thinking about them now still makes my heart race.

°˖➴ Saeris Fane:
Saeris Fane… oh, where do I even begin? She is an absolute force of nature. Every time she steps into a scene, you feel her presence, fierce, clever, and unapologetically bold. But beneath that strength, there’s a vulnerability that makes her so human, so real. I loved how layered she is; she’s smart, daring, and relentless in pursuit of her goals, yet she also has moments that make your heart ache for her. Her interactions with others are electric, full of tension, wit, and raw emotion, and you can’t help but be captivated by every choice she makes.

Saeris Fane is, without question, one of the most emotionally gripping “one of a kind” protagonists in romantasy right now. There’s something profoundly moving about watching a girl pushed into a destiny she never asked for, trying to lead with trembling hands and still whispering, “I don' know what I’m doing.” And yet, she keeps going. She chooses to rise. There’s a quiet kind of bravery in the way she delegates, in the way she reaches out for help, in the way she admits she cannot do everything alone. Her arc doesn’t rely on sudden power or perfection; it grows from vulnerability, doubt, and stubborn hope. In a genre crowded with heroines who become unstoppable overnight, Saeris feels painfully, beautifully real, human in all the ways that matter, even when she technically isn’t.

What truly sets her apart is that she isn’t one of those fantasy characters who whine endlessly for attention or act like a child; she doesn’t need to. Simply being herself, her strength, her conviction, her heart, was more than enough for me to love her and feel a deep connection. And oh my god, the lengths she went for her mate… I was crying, utterly overwhelmed. She risked everything, even her own soul, just to ensure his safety and keep him close. Saeris Fane isn’t just a character, you feel her, you live her, and she absolutely grabs your heart and refuses to let go. Total obsession.

The moment I’ll forever remember is when Saeris truly gave everything she had to save him from that cursed spell tied to his name. I was literally screaming, gasping, and giggling all at once while reading it, my heart was racing, and I couldn’t get enough of her bravery and determination. Ahhh, that scene just stole my soul!

°˖➴ Kingfisher: (I won't spoil his real name, don't you worry, hehe)
Ohhh, Kingfisher… where do I even start with this absolute gem of a character?
Kingfisher is everything. He’s brave, sharp, and unshakable in the face of danger, but what really makes him stand out is how much heart he carries beneath that tough exterior. You feel the weight of every choice he makes, every risk he takes, and the way he protects those he loves, it’s intense. I loved how he’s not just strong physically or strategically, but emotionally too; he’s fierce, stubborn, and sometimes infuriatingly persistent, but always in the most endearing way.

And his interactions with Saeris? Absolute chaos, but the kind you love. His exasperation, the way he tries to wrangle her while secretly worrying for her at every turn, had me laughing, swooning, and tearing up all at once. There’s a vulnerability to him that makes you root for him even harder, especially knowing the dangers he faces just to get to his mate.

And don’t even get me started on how deeply in love he is, like, it’s written in every tense, every growl, every warning he gives, every tiny sacrifice. He’s not just head over heels; he’s utterly devoted, willing to risk life and limb, fight impossible odds, and even fight himself just to be near her. I was laughing, crying, swooning, and losing my mind all at once. He is the kind of hero who makes your heart race and your stomach flutter because you just know, he would move heaven and earth for his mate, no questions asked.

Kingfisher is the kind of character who storms into your heart and then refuses to leave, no matter how hard you try. He’s fearless, loyal to the bone, and so intensely devoted it almost hurts. I swear… he’s the perfect blend of that powerful alpha presence and the softest, most protective love. I can’t deal, I am feral about this man. And the dual POV? Oh my god, finally being allowed inside his head is absolute perfection. Every time a chapter switched to him, I literally lit up and let out the most embarrassing little giggle. I’m obsessed. Completely, helplessly obsessed.

── .✦

And the romance, ohhh the romance! It’s all-consuming. He’s possessive but respectful, demanding but tender, and he’s so unabashedly in love that I was crying, swooning, laughing, and screaming all at once. The tension between them is electric, from the teasing banter to the moments where his devotion seeps into every line, he’s utterly hers, and he makes sure you know it. Every scene he’s in, he dominates my heart.

OH. MY. GOD. Saeris Fane to Kingfisher? SHE IS EVERYTHING. Every time she’s around him, it’s chaos and magic and fire all at once. She doesn’t need him, like, at all. but she wants him, fiercely, cleverly, and with a strength that makes him lose his mind (in the best way). She challenges him, teases him, pushes him to his limits, yet she’s also capable of moments that make your heart ache, soft, real, and impossibly tender.

Her love for him isn’t loud or cloying; it’s layered, stubborn, relentless. She’s clever enough to see through his walls and dangerous enough to get under his skin, and that drives him crazy in the best possible way. Every choice she makes, every sacrifice, every little joke or sharp glance, Kingfisher is completely undone by her. She is the kind of woman who makes you feel that love is worth fighting for, worth every risk, and every second of obsession. Honestly, their dynamic is pure, messy, heart-stopping perfection.

── .✦

The Writing:
Callie Hart’s writing is razor-sharp. She doesn’t waste a single word. Every sentence is deliberate, atmospheric, and emotionally loaded. There’s this haunting elegance to her style, dark, poetic, and so immersive you don’t just read the scenes, you feel them. The pacing is flawless: slow and simmering when it needs to be, then suddenly explosive in all the right places. And her ability to write tension? Absolutely unmatched. She builds chemistry with a single look, a line of dialogue, a breath. It's addictive.

The Story:
The plot is gripping from the start, a perfect blend of darkness, heartbreak, and quiet tenderness buried beneath all the brutality. It’s the kind of story where you’re constantly questioning characters’ motives, trying to piece together their brokenness and craving every tiny reveal. The twists are sharp, the stakes feel real, and the emotional weight is heavy in the best possible way. It’s not just a romance, it’s a psychological pull, a slow unravelling of trauma, longing, vengeance, and connection.

── .✦

Okey, listen up, I cannot shut up about this book, so let me give you 6 reasons why it deserves 6 stars (yes, I said 6!)

1. It’s truly an 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝐭𝐨-𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, and y’all know how I live for that tension. Hell yes, it delivered!
2. The MMC is a yearner, and let me break it down for you: 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲. 𝐈𝐟 𝐬𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫, 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭, 𝐟𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐏, 𝐧𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. And that scene where she says, “𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈” and he’s like, “𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮” I literally melted.
3. The story moves at full speed, every page, every second something happens. No filler, no wasted words, and the plot keeps delivering like a feast with zero crumbs left behind.
4. The MMC is so strong and independent, she doesn’t need a man, but oh, she does want him anyway, and the chemistry is insane.
5. Every character has a purpose, no background filler, no pointless side characters. Everything matters, everything contributes.
6. ONYX. Just one word. Enough said.

This book hits every mark and then some, and I’m still screaming about it.

── .✦

Oh, that ending… it was something I didn’t even realize my soul needed. I went into this thinking the series would only be two books, and then bam, that finale completely shocked me in the best possible way. I was sitting there absolutely stunned, grinning like an idiot. I loved every second of it. Honestly, I devoured this book completely and I won’t be able to stop thinking about it until Book 3 is finally in my hands. Every scene, every interaction, every twist is stuck in my head, and I’m living for it. The story, the characters, the tension, it all lingers long after the last page.

>>> ──────── .✦

𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐰𝐨:
⊹ ࣪ ˖🕰️୭˚. ᵎᵎ🗝️ Yeah, it’s finally here, and I’m so ready to binge this book and see where the story takes us! I’m really hoping it lives up to the hype and gives me that perfect romantasy satisfaction because the first book was an absolute BANGER. I loved every second of it.

And to make it even sweeter, I’m buddy reading this with the loveliest girl ever, Ishraq. I can’t wait for us to yap, scream, and obsess together. It’s our first time reading together, so this book better show up and deliver everything we want! <𝟑 .ᐟ

I literally can’t think of one thing that I didn’t like about this book!! Every single page had me so invested and I was enjoying every second of it!! These characters are all so special to me! Kingfisher, Carrion, and Saeris all have my heart. I love them so so much.

I want to keep this review spoiler free so obviously not sharing too much, but that ending was CRIMINAL!!! LIKE WHAT??? Need the next book now!

What to Expect:
➼ Obsessive & Possessive MC’s
➼ Political Intrigue
➼ Fated Mates
➼ Hidden Powers
➼ Touch Her & Die
➼ Found Family
➼ Cliffhanger
➼ Duet Narration (Stella Bloom & Anthony Palmini)
➼ Dual First Person POV

Guys… what the heck was that?! I’m really not concerned about things like grammatical errors or whatever the heck people were complaining about online. What I do care about is that this entire plot had novella energy. Everything felt kind of disjointed and frankly uninteresting at points and then Kingfisher and Saeris would suddenly be hooking up in a dreamscape or something. 🙄 I like the added intimacy of a mind to mind connection, but in this case it felt like lazy writing. The author wrote so many scenes where the MC’s were physically apart that I question if she added a mind link just so she could slip in some spice. To each their own, but this kind of vampire spice where they drink each other like juice boxes just isn’t for me. I wanted to see more relational growth, but mostly what the author gave us was sex, sex, and more sex any time these characters shared a page.

I do like that their relationship seems healthy and supportive, but the level of obsession they have for each other is a bit extreme when you consider that they barely know each other. People were joking about this developing into a romance between Fisher & Carrion, but that honestly didn’t seem that far fetched. If it weren’t for the fact that the word mate was used 180 times in this book… 180 TIMES, I might have really believed it was heading in that direction.

Sigh… I’m sorry if this is coming out as a rant. I was just so genuinely excited for this and I wanted to love it so bad! It’s always extra sad when one of your most highly anticipated reads flops. 😔 And of COURSE this ended on a cliffhanger so now I feel like I might even continue the series despite wanting desperately to DNF this. 🫠 One thing’s for sure, these authors sure do know how to hook us.

Pre-read: Let’s goooo!! Drop everything, it’s Brimstone time! 🔥

Update: I had to put this on pause at 11% because I realized how many books will need to go back this week and that I’m going to have very little time to read after Tuesday. 😬 Not going to lie though, so far I’m confused as heck. 😆 Sometimes it sucks to not be a rereader.

I've managed to process and organize my thoughts after screaming internally for a day. Callie Hart didn't disappoint, and she delivered a strong and thrilling follow-up to Quicksilver. It's such an amazing feeling to step into the sprawling world of Yvelia once again.

I loved how this book balanced plot, action with new characters. And Kingfisher's name was finally revealed! (Shall not reveal any spoilers)

He gave me whiplash by how tender and sweet he was to Saeris for a moment, and then the next second, the filthy words that spewed from his mouth 🤣 He was deliciously wicked and thoroughly devoted. And he re-introduced Saeris to all seven gods once again!

I know I was complaining about the lack of Renfis, Everlayne and Lorreth in Brimstone. But I'm so glad we got more of Tal and especially Carrion. I can't wait to witness his growth, magic and journey in the next book. The dynamics in Fisher and Saeris' relationship has also shifted to a more serious tone. And I DID NOT anticipate that plot twist at the end. Wow, it was quite shocking to be honest. I can't wait to read how Saeris, Fisher and Carrion can topple and destroy Madra and Belikon. Fisher, unleash your wrath, shadows and Nimerelle upon them.

A well-deserved 5 ⭐️. If you're not convinced, refer to my favourite annotations below.

💫 🦅 “Don’t you know? There isn’t much I wouldn’t sacrifice to make you happy, Osha. A little healing magic is the least of it.”
💫 🦅 I wanted to hold her; the fact that she wasn’t in my arms right now felt like the greatest injustice that had ever been inflicted upon me. There was no breathing my way past it.
💫 🦅 I could be dead in the ground five thousand years and the frosts could have taken my bones, and still no other male will ever have loved another female the way that I love you.”
💫 🦅 “I’d spend the fortunes of the universe to protect you.
💫 🦅 “I shouldn’t tell you this, since you seem blissfully unaware of the power you hold over me, but… I will give you whatever you want, Saeris Fane. Always. No matter what it costs me.”

“When I close my eyes, you are all I fucking see, Saeris Fane. I could be dead in the ground five thousand years and the frosts could have taken my bones, and still no other male will ever have loved another female the way that I love you.”

Let’s start with what I like first because if I start ranting I will not stop. (Sorry if this is long)
The characters are still great some got better some stayed the same and honestly good for them.

°ᡣ𐭩.°.જ⁀➴ Saeris my sweet confused girl but like smart confused not dumb confused she’s witty she’s so confused in the RIGHT situations 😭 idk how to explain it but I get her and she figures things out fast so I’m like ok queen understood.
Her anger? Hot. Like when she’s in the vampire courts??? Yes ma’am eat them alive.
Her reminding everyone she’s the QUEEN has me kicking my feet 🤭
And her handling her brother had me smiling like a clown because finally that man needed it so bad 😔
The way she loves kingfisher I fear she’s just as obsessed as he is and I support it fully. She’s independent and I love that for her but when she lets herself be soft with him?? I melt. She would literally do everything for him 😭 and him for her and Onyx my baby I love them together so much I could cry.

“I love you, and nothing else matters beyond that. Wherever you are, I’ll beg the gods and all the fates to let me be there, too,”

°ᡣ𐭩.°.જ⁀➴ Kingfisher got his personality back thank the gods 🙂‍↕️ especially any scene with Carrion because Carrion brings out the chaotic in him.
Also did he get FILTHIER 😩 because sir… I’m not complaining.
Still obsessed still worshipping her (when is it my turn actually) (╥‸╥)
And him pretending he hates Onyx like please everyone knows he’s obsessed with that little fox too.
BUT HIS TRUE NAME. WHAT WAS THAT. That’s what we were building up to?? I giggled I’m sorry😭

“I love you, Little Osha.”
And he still calls her osha 🥹

°ᡣ𐭩.°.જ⁀➴ My man Carrion I don’t care I love that man his humor is unmatched he’s always unserious and I respect it.
Half the time I can’t take him seriously because he’s cracking jokes in the middle of chaos.
Him and Kingfisher together is comedy because he knows exactly how to get under his skin and he does it on purpose.

“So yes. I love Saeris Fane, because she’s electric, and fierce, and loyal, and being around her brings the world back into focus. But I’m not in love with her, Fisher. I tried. But my heart was just too full of sorrow to make room for her.”

Now what I didn’t like because WOW where do I start.
Why are we adding issues when we haven’t solved ANYTHING we already have. Every time they’re like “we have a solution” and then immediately “no that won’t work”… ok???
Who is that creature Saeris keeps making deals with where did he come from why is he here can someone explain anything to me.
That rot thing hello??? Where are we going with that plotline.
The quicksilver??? WHERE IS IT FROM . Yes yes it makes swords and it’s liquid but also solid whatever but WHY DOES IT TALK and WHERE DID IT COME FROM I need lore. I need a backstory. I need a chart. 😭
I kept thinking it would start making sense and guess what I’m still lost.
And that ending being so abrupt I reread it because I thought I missed something but nope the book just ended like that.
Also everyone is a little too calm?? I would be losing my mind personally.
And this book was LONG and we didn’t resolve a single thing. Not a crumb.

Maybe it’s just me because a bitch has QUESTIONS 🥲
I do have more thoughts but my review is already too long😔

Thanks for reading xx.💋

⟢ I really enjoyed Brimstone & loved being back in this world, but good Lord, it should not have taken me 3 weeks to read this. 🫠

Bullet point style review because my brain is still marinating:
• I loved seeing Saeris grow into her power. One of my favorite micro tropes is the powerful FMC trope. ”I am no child. My name is Saeris Fane, and I am your queen.”
• That filthy mouth on Kingfisher had me like 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🤭
• I hope Callie Hart advances her vocabulary for the next book. I can’t take anymore of “my mate” or “solar plexus.” We get it— they’re mates. And we also get how much they’re attracted to each other. No need to repeat 42 times.
• Side characters who shone: TAL, LORRETH, FOLEY. I might have a tiny 🤏🏼 crush on Tal, I fear.
• Onyx & Archer must be protected at all costs. No more scares, especially with Onyx. My heart can’t take it. I love that little fox
• I liked Carrion Swift in Quicksilver, but I fell in love with him in Brimstone. ”If at any point, you underestimate me…” He smirked, arching a dark copper eyebrow. “Then I’d say that was your mistake rather than mine. Wouldn’t you?”
• What was with that pacing? It went from fast to slow fast to slow. I think that’s why it took me such a long time to read this book.
• Hart got with me that ending. I love a good cliffhanger situation.

⟢ I know it’s not the best book out there, but I just can’t help, but give Brimstone a high rating. Now that I finished it, I can’t stop thinking about it & want to be back that world, which I knew was going to happen because I’m such a sucker for Kingfisher, I mean, Khydan & I’m a sucker for a good Romantasy. Even when the characters & the writing annoyed me, I still can’t help, but love it. It truly was like I transported myself into another realm & that’s how I want my books to feel. 🤌🏼

Cliffhanger: 10/10 (Excuse me???)

I, like a lot of people, have been waiting for this book for what feels like forever and it did not disappoint! I had the best time reading this. We get a lot of insight into Kingfisher from his POV and that alone levels this series up.

The dynamics between the characters evolve in the best way. Normally when the main couple spends significant time apart in a Romantacy it can feel frustrating but this is the opposite. The road trip between Kingfisher and Carrion is everything you think it would be and more. They have such a great push and pull. Maybe more of a push and push since Carrion pushes Kingfisher's buttons and Kingfisher would like to push Carrion off a cliff. 😂 Their reluctant buddy cop energy is everything!

Getting to see Saeris come into her warrior era was a blast! Y'all will learn to stop playing with her especially about her man. Her relationship with all the secondary characters including Tal and Hayden are so vital to her growth. I swear I want all them all to get their own book.

There were a lot great reveals that had my jaw on the floor. And that cliffhanger! Because wdym? Now I feel like I need to reread both books to really understand the full picture.

If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for? I pray FOMO finds and blesses you so we can all suffer together until book 3!
