BLACK ROSE is a sweeping tale of love, loss, and immortality—a dual-timeline vampire romance following one woman’s struggle between independence and desire.

1891: Broken by grief, Rose is drawn into the alluring world of Draven, the charming and secretive man who saves her life. Within the candlelit halls of Thornwood Manor, she must navigate her sorrow, the whispers of town gossip, and the dangerous pull of a love she cannot escape.

2010: Over a century later, Rose walks the world as a Vampire—independent, untethered, and alone. That is, until New Year’s Eve brings her to Lakeview, where her former best friend, Vail, begs for help. Vampires are vanishing without a trace. When Rose meets Connor, a seemingly ordinary man she seduces for answers, she vows to keep her true nature hidden. But the past she’s buried is rising again—and Connor may have secrets of his own.

Thank you to the author for making me an ARC reader and proofreader!

The author is my sister, and without bias (trust me I tell her the truth) I truly enjoyed and loved this book. As someone who grew up watching the vampire diaries and all the spinoffs, and is a lover of True Blood and the Twilight movies, this was right up my alley. Writing a vampire novel with unique features and vampire characteristics can be challenging as there are already o many variations in media. Jade made her vampires classic and traditional, while adding VERY interesting features and capabilities (no spoilers) that made the story fun and engaging and set her vamps apart from the rest. I adored the dual timeline! It was written excellently. I could envision both worlds, and loved the parallels between human Rose and 2010s vamp Rose, and between her two love interested Draven and Connor. The characters are raw and real, you absolutely love some while despising others. Characters have true flaws in keeping with their distinct personalities. The plot was action packed and kept me hooked. The nightclub scenes were my fav!! I was constantly between team Draven and Team Connor…. But ultimately I think I’ve decided I am Team Draven!!! Vail is my favourite character. Can’t wait for book 2!! 🦇🥀

The blend between reading about Rose’s life as a human and a vampire was written so well. Both parts of her life just drew you in to her story and wanting to find out more. The parallels between the two timelines was amazing. I couldn’t help rooting for each person in their respective timelines.

Rose was such a complex character. I loved that we saw the development of her character as such a naive young girl to the unhinged vampire she is at the moment.

Draven and Connor both had my heart, although I find myself more drawn to Draven and his story. I loved the distinction between the both characters and their relationships with Rose.

I can’t wait to read more! I received this book as an ARC but this was my honest opinion after having read the novel.

Thank you to Jade for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It has become a rare occurrence for me to find a book that I can hardly put down, but this one definitely managed that, since the author’s writing style is incredibly immersive. While I was initially skeptical about the dual timeline, I was positively surprised by how well balanced both plotlines are and how much thought was put into subtle tone adjustments to make each timeline feel authentic.

Black Rose has great overall pacing, unraveling the story and its characters layer after layer, which compellingly drives the plot forward. While the main character made me roll my eyes at times, her flaws make her feel all the more human and realistic — just like the other characters.

The novel takes you on a journey full of love, friendship, and dangerous secrets, while also providing thrilling, humorous, and heartbreaking moments. However, not every question is answered yet, which makes me all the more excited to see how the second book will continue the story.

A new twist on vampires! Yes they're traditional but the added razzle dazzle was a nice kick! I love that we get timelines from her past & her present! I will have to say I'm definitely team Draven he sounds dreamy! Connor is super sweet and all but the danger he presents tells us Rose has a type 😆! She likes dancing with danger! Girl same, because for Draven.... I would do unspeakable things...😩😆. I love how the characters were raw, you could see & understand why they did what they did. Although I would not choose what certain characters did, I can understand it. I cannot wait for book 2! If you love Vampires, magic, slayers & love then this book is for you!

Thank you to the author, Jade Landrie, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Dark Rose follows Rose, our protagonist Vampire, with a dual timeline in 1870s and 2010, as she navigates tragic loss, heartbreak, and a mysterious drug that is killing vampires.

I think this was a fantastic debut novel. The characters were very distinct and had their own personalities that stayed consistent throughout the novel, which I really appreciated. Everything each character did made sense because it was inline with their personalities.

Rose - our unhinged protagonist. She just wants to have fun and leave a trail of corpses behind and honestly? I love that journey for her. I did find myself frustrated with rose throughout the book, as I found her to have the survival instincts of a peanut, constantly going headfirst into danger and naively believing everything will be okay. If it wasn’t for Vail and her voice of reason Rose would have perished a lot time about. I will say though, as stupid as she is, her actions are very clearly motivated by her desire to love and be loved, and for connection. I didn’t like it, but it made sense why she did those things.

Draven- one of my favorite book boyfriends. I’m such a simp for dark, brooding, mysterious men. I could not get enough of him and I do wish we learned more of his past in the book, but I guess he can keep his secrets!!

Vail- my favorite blonde ray of sunshine. She was the voice of readon in the book, and i looooved that she called Rose out on her bullshit. Rose needed a reality check and Vail never hesitated to give it to her (I just wish Rose LISTENED). I cannot wait to have more of her in book 2!

Connor- the exact opposite of Draven. If Draven has secrets that he keeps in a vault, Connor keeps his vault wide open, always talking and always spilling secrets. In a way, Rose and Connor are the perfect match because they’re both naive and stupid as hell. If I was Sam I’d be mad as hell that Connor just spills any and all secrets at all times. He’s just a pretty boy with no braincells to rub together.

Sam - he was a great villain. He felt slimy and like a douchebag that I would want to avoid as much as I could. Rose however .. did not feel the same.

Rest of Sungods (Donovan/ivy/diana)- I wish the rest had a bigger part of the book. Ivy clearly played a big part behind the scenes, but she meant nothing to me. Diana’s dilemma at the end of the book wasn’t meaningful to me because we didn’t get to know her more. And Donovan … was just there.

My favorite part - Rose and Draven! I loved their relationship so much and the whole “don’t touch her!” trope. If there’s anything I love in a book it’s a simp for his woman.

My least favorite part - the pacing was a little rushed for me. I wished Rose’s dilemma in the 1800’s was stretched out more. I do understand days passed between chapters and she ruminated on her problems in those days off the page, but the pacing made Rose seem very wishy washy that chose to change the trajectory of her life on a whim. Additionally, I know this is fiction and not historical fiction, but it was never explained why Rose was a low class woman who was literate, and it nagged me through all the 1800 chapters. I wish even a nugget of information as to why was given to us, but, again, this book never claimed to be historical fiction so it could very well be that women were taught to read in those time. I mean, vampires and witches exist, so why can’t literate women exist too?

Rose’s journey is one of grief, discovery, and transformation, blending classic vampire lore with fresh supernatural twists.

The story opens with Rose at her lowest point, grieving and alone—until Draven, a mysterious vampire, finds and saves her. Their slow-burning connection becomes the emotional foundation of the novel as Rose learns the truth about her past, her father’s legacy as a vampire slayer, and her own unexpected evolution into a vampire. The narrative weaves skillfully between Rose’s early years and the current century—where she meets Connor—and her present life, creating a dual-timeline structure that deepens her character and history.

Alongside vampires, the world includes witches and slayers, enriching the supernatural landscape. Vail, Rose’s loyal and witchy friend, adds charm and grounding wisdom as she seeks answers about vampires who have mysteriously begun to disappear. Rose’s impulsive nature often gets her into trouble, especially when she ignores Vail’s warnings, but her headstrong decisions create tension and movement throughout the plot.

While the story contains familiar elements of traditional vampire fiction, it introduces enough unique dynamics and unexpected situations to feel fresh. Readers who enjoy supernatural drama, layered timelines, and complicated relationships between mortals and immortals will find this an engaging and worthwhile read.

Black Rose was my first vampire book in a very long time, and it completely reignited my love for the genre. I truly appreciated how the story stayed original while still honoring the classic vampire lore found in older stories. The author struck a wonderful balance between tradition and fresh storytelling, which made the book feel both familiar and exciting.

The worldbuilding was rich and immersive, drawing me in from the start. One of the most brilliant aspects of the book was the way each chapter moved between the past and the future. This structure added depth to the story and kept me constantly engaged, eager to see how everything connected.

I fell in love with the characters and became deeply invested in their journeys. Their relationships—especially the strong bonds of friendship—were beautifully portrayed and showed that true connection and loyalty can withstand anything. The theme that true love always finds a way was handled thoughtfully, and the ending genuinely surprised me in the best way.

Overall, Black Rose was an engaging, emotional, and memorable read. I would rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars, leaving room for what I hope will be another book in this world. I highly recommend it to fans of vampire stories who enjoy strong characters, meaningful relationships, and a unique storytelling approach.

Thank you to my lovely cousin Jade for including me as one of her ARC readers!

My favourite part of this book is not only the book and story itself, but the journey this novel has taken. Jade started this novel back in her teen years and brought it back to life in 2025. It has been so fun to jump back into my own teen memories when vampires, magic and witches were THE THING to talk about and we watched all of our favourite tv shows/movies that inspired this novel.
Not only that, but Jade really bringing the excitement each day through her social media (instagram/Tik Tok) introducing pieces of the novel each day to her fans. It really shows the love and dedication put into this novel.

Jade was creative in introducing her own unique characteristics with vampires and witches I haven't seen before. There's the classic vampire quirks, but also refreshing to read new ones like seeing their victims memories- cool idea! The dual timelines gave me Vampire Diaries vibes and I absolutely loved it. Excited to read more!!!

ARC spolier-free review - I'm hooked!!

This book was such a pleasure to read. The author has mastered the art of suspense - the dual-timeline always keeps you wanting more - I can't wait for book 2! I also loved that Landrie really committed to the vampire-romance genre but managed to include elements that are fresh and new (go read it to see what I'm talking about!). The only reason I'm not giving the book 5 stars is because there were certain phrases that were repeated over and over and because in the 1890s chapters I think Landie was trying to make the dialogue sound more old-fashioned by avoiding contractions but then there were contractions in Rosalia's narration and it felt disjointed. But overall, I was blown away by how invested I became in the characters, how good Landrie is at writting chemistry, both romantic and platonic and how well the action sequences were written - just incredible! This book has it all and I will be coming back for more.

ARC review!!!

While I found this book interesting there was a lot that threw me off. I love vampires so I enjoyed that aspect. I do wish the FMC hadn’t just switched gears about transition mid-thought. The witchy aspects threw me off at times.

Going back and forth on timelines wasn’t for me. I’m not saying this book isn’t good because it is!! I think the timelines should’ve been longer before switching back and forth.

I enjoyed the plot and spice level. I enjoyed the different take on vampires. I enjoyed the friendship and love interests.

This book is well worth reading. Dive in and enjoy!!

Vampire romance! Immortal friendship with turmoil and undying platonic love! A hot guy in a band?!

Now those things I love.

But its just the beginning of the list…

I really enjoyed the pacing with the dual timeline. Jumping between the old world and new kept it interesting.

Hearing tales of friendship, the type of chosen family they would do anything for. The relationship with Rosalie and Vail over the years makes me want more!

The descriptions of sun on her skin makes me yearn for summer.

I have so many questions for book 2! I want to know more about the magic system. Are there vampire thralls? Maybe we’ll get to learn more about Vail growing up. How did she turn?

Also, the mind reading when the vampires eat is so rad.

Overall a very fun and emotional read! C’mon book 2!!!!!!

I really enjoyed this book! I haven't been able to get into a book and finish one since June but had no problem with this one, love that it's got me back into reading. Great descriptions and world building, I could really imagine the scenes throughout.
Only critiques would be that some characters and plots felt slightly underdeveloped. Also, felt as though Vail and Rose's "relationship" should have been explored more within this book or maybe left it out. I loved their relationship just wish we got to see more of it in the first book. Can't wait for book two and #TeamConnor!
Would definitely recommend!

This book only took me so long to read as I’ve been very unwell but really should have only taken me a week maximum.

This book is a rare find, I was unable to predict where this book was going. The story follow the FMC rose through her past and current day life.
Without giving spoilers this story captivated me from the start, essentially telling to stories simultaneously. Rose as a human and rose as a vampire.
The world building is intense.
While there are some romantic scenes.. these are pg13 and used to move the story forward rather than the actual plot.
Was shocked at the cliffhanger ending but very much looking forward to the next instalment.

I live for a vampire romance and Black Rose did not disappoint! I loved the dual timelines and fast pace of the story. I never felt bored and found it easy to follow along with what was happening during both time periods. I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and their connections, especially Rose and Vail. I looove that there were witchy vibes. I am very excited to see where this story goes in further books, I’m definitely team Draven! Thank you so much to the author, Jade, for giving me an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

What a phenomenal book! the back and forth between decades was amazing and the ending?! OMG what a cliffhanger that I am dying to know how it progresses! Jade does a wonderful job sewing in so many aspects to make you ask how and why. I have so many questions about how Vail became a vampire and why can Rosalia with stand sunlight...what happens with Conner and Draven!?!?! You have to read this book because you WILL be wanting more!!!

The book follows Rose both as an 1870's human and her turning by Draven and 2010's as a vampire, powerful and independent. As a debut book by Jade Landrie the dual stories are a lot to keep track of and as a slow reader I had to reread parts to ensure that I got where the story was headed. What I noticed though as I re-read parts was that I would discover something that I missed the first time and it helped me to understand Rose a bit more. Very well done.

Black Rose by Jade Landrie was an engaging read with plenty of drama and emotion. The story has a darker vibe, but it’s balanced with moments that feel raw and real. I liked the intensity between the characters and how the author keeps things moving without dragging. Overall, it’s an enjoyable read if you’re in the mood for something a little moody and passionate.

I was very drawn to this story. Being a loner and independent myself and always trying to hide. This layered story is filled with lots of secrets cleverly woven into a dark world of love and bit of hope(its there just have to look really hard). I loved this.

Great book with a really interesting and gripping story! I love a dual timeline but I wish the chapters were longer or that it didn’t switch between timelines so often because I felt it made it harder to get into the book. I loved the imagery and scene descriptions :)

Thank you to the author for letting me be an ARC reader.

While at first I found myself not too attached to Rose, watching her try and push through the tough times in her life earned her a special place in my heart. Though impulsive more often than not, those decisions of hers are what make the story good and compelling.

I did enjoy the slight twist on vampires emotionally connecting with their victims, but I found myself wishing for something more when it came to the vampiric aspect of the story. However, I recognize it’s hard to add much to the history of vampires when it’s a story that’s been told countless times. In addition, as much as I loved Vail, I did feel like the magic aspect was out of place at times and missing in others.

Overall, I did really enjoy this work and think the author did an amazing job in writing it as her first book. Looking forward to more books from Jade Landrie.

ARC Review - I really enjoyed this book!

I loved the time jumps between chapters to build on one another and the FMCs background and character.

The plot built to such a great climax with the perfect cliffhangers - yes plural - for the ending, I need to know what happens!

I feel the main characters were painted well to give a good insight to them and their actions as well as some good twists with certain characters.

The juxtaposition of the current day and the time jump backwards also showed some great parallels with certain people being put in different positions.

Overall, great book and I'm excited for book 2!
