Great book about history of 305th Pioneer Battalion from its conception to demise in Stalingrad during WW2. History of Battalion was written by Lt. Grimm who made it out of the Stalingrad pocket before it's fall in 1942. Author did a good job detailing many of the battles the battalion fought in especially Stalingrad. Very good book which I highly recommend for WW2 Eastern front readers.

A very good read

Jason Mark has written a very interesting and exceptionally well researched book on Grimm and his various commands and actions. Most interesting was his description of events and men on the eastern front and Stalingrad, the repercussions of which are well outlined. An exceptionally unusual and interesting work.

Another fantastic Jason Mark book

Could not out it down. The way the author weaved the Grimm diary into a working, living story was entertainung, while packed with information. From Case Blue to Stalingrad, and the postwar period, riveting.

Excellent book like all of the Jason D. Mark's book I have read. The horror of the fighting in Stalingrad comes through as you read the entries detailing the events.
