We survived the siege. We survived the truth. But now we have to survive each other.
I’m Asha Lopez. I’ve gone from arcane soldier to fugitive to… whatever I am now. I thought admitting my feelings for Leylandir was the finish line, but it was just another starting gun.
We’re alive, but we aren’t whole. The magical burnout that nearly killed him has left scars on us both. Now, the bond that was supposed to be our strength has become a minefield. We’re walking a razor’s edge, and while we are partners in every sense of the word, we stand on opposite sides of an invisible wall neither of us knows how to break down.
But the multiverse doesn't pause for broken hearts.
To understand the gates and decide whether to lock them forever or tear them wide open, we need answers only one Elf can provide. Answers that are currently locked inside a fortress under close scrutiny by the Elven Council.
We have to go back to Eldarëon. We have to steal a high-value target from right under the Council’s nose. And to pull off the heist of the century, I have to trust that Leylandir and I can face what’s ahead of us side by side.
Trust requires surrender. I just don't know if I have anything left to give.
The fourth explosive installment in The War for Magic series. A gritty military fantasy heist with a slow-burn romance that battles through trauma, political intrigue, and the highest stakes yet.

Even though I’ve been determined to only read my favorite genre, I will still read, for the most part, authors I’ve come to love even if the genre isn’t for me anymore. I love this author’s writing, so I was eager to dive into this fourth book to find out what is going on in Leylandir’s and Asha’s world. Not long after the beginning of the book, they are neck-deep in trouble again, and of course they must survive to save all the worlds. Can’t say much because of spoilers, but this is well-written, entertaining, and has some great world-building. One word summons up something else but won’t say what: finally!! LOL! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Asha and Leylandir are continuing on their voyage to figure out whether the gates should be opened and how to do it. The elvish and human governments aren't on board at this point, but there are some members of each group who are working with the orcs and dwarves to determine the best course for all the worlds to take. Asha's previously unknown genealogy comes into play as does her search for others like her to help with a task that turns out to be more than one person can handle. At least she and Leylandir can finally get their relationship moving in the right direction. Looking forward to the next book to tie up some loose ends.
Book 4 of the series in which we are following Asha and Leylandir as they continue on their voyage to figure out whether the gates should be opened and how to do it. Another fantastic instalment. The world building is exceptional. Highly recommend. Looking forward to the next instalment. Add this series to your TBR list you won’t regret it.
Received this complementary copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
I think that the plan to open all the gates is a good one. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that my theory of Asha’s genetic makeup was correct. She is also a formidable opponent no matter who she is facing. Ishar had a very creative solution to the intimate problem that Asha and Leylandir have. Each book I read in this series is better than the last one…I can’t wait for the next one!
