When her world collapses, he's there to catch her, but can she trust him with her heart?
Sophie Miller has spent three years rebuilding her life after her ex-husband's betrayal left her and her two kids barely scraping by. Running the small-town market and raising teenagers alone doesn't leave room for romance, especially not with Sapphire Creek's patient, steady sheriff who keeps finding excuses to stop by.
Hank Drummond has been waiting for Sophie to be ready. He's fallen hard for the strong, beautiful woman behind the counter, and he's determined to prove he's nothing like the man who broke her heart. But Sophie's seventeen-year-old son isn't so easily convinced, and Hank knows one wrong move could cost him everything.
When a devastating blizzard destroys Sophie's home and nearly takes her family, Hank doesn't hesitate. He opens his doors and his heart. What starts as temporary shelter becomes something neither of them a second chance at the family they both deserve.
But Sophie's manipulative ex isn't done causing damage, and trust doesn't come easily when you've been burned before. As winter gives way to spring, Sophie must play it safe in the ruins of her old life, or take a leap of faith with the man who's been there all along?
A small-town romance about patience, healing, and finding home in the most unexpected places.
This book is a perfect shorter novel that scratches the itch of wholesome, spicy, swoonworthy.
Hank is a stern but sweet for her and her kids sheriff. He has probably more patience than he should! The slow burn in this made me give Hank a props for restraint. It’s clear his world revolves around Sophie.
Sophie is a single mom with 2 teens who’s just clearly been in a bad relationship that lead to a brutal situation. She’s extremely cautious of her actions and how they impact her kids. She’s fairly guarded and hesitant to take the help when offered since she got burned by her ex so badly.
But it’s so sweet to see Hank soft around her an Sophie start to let him in.
Sweet and spicy, an don’t like Hanks good boy personality make you think he’s too vanilla, cause the spice here is just right.
It's a cute little story where there is a lot of love but not enough drama for me. Thats why i rate it 3.5 🌟 (i will round up) Although I enjoyed the story. Its cute enough and it's believable enough. I am curious to know more about sapphire creek and will be here for more!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was hooked from beginning to the last page! So many emotions, I was on a continuous roller coaster of feelings! I can't wait to read another book by this author. Meg McQuill is a new Author for me and I loved her! Characters so real you feel you know them personally, Excellent story!
Such a cute book! This had small town romance, a protective sheriff who falls first, a single mom who is struggling to make ends meet, and a wonderful community who pulls together. This book has all the feels to make it a great Christmas read, just in time for the holidays! This book follows Sophie, a single mom of two teens who owns and runs the local supermarket. She is trying to make ends meet, because her ex does not pay child support or really care about them at all. Her kids are great, and having the sheriff come by and check on her daily does not hurt either! Hank is the local sheriff and he has been biding his time until Sophie is ready for him to swoop in and start a relationship with her. He has wanted her for years, but has waited until she was ready. He checks on her, helps her kids, and tries to be there when she needs help. These two are so cute, and Hank is so patient. When a storm comes in and there is trouble for Sophie and her kids, Hank steps in and saves the day! They all realize that coming together as a family may be the best thing that has ever happened to all of them. 4.5 stars, great start to a new series!
I enjoyed this story of Hank, the sheriff, and Sophie, the owner of Sapphire Creek’s grocery store. Her teenagers, Logan & Madison, are real-life teens who love their mom but have regular adolescent problems, testing their otherwise strong family bonds. Hank is a great guy, always taking care of others, especially Sophie and her kids. He is so patient with her, playing the long game. I loved that! The town has that ideal small-town feel & is very supportive in multiple ways.
My main dislike is that it gets a little repetitive in places. An editor would help both with that issue and a fair number of punctuation errors. It is not a clean read, having quite a few bedroom scenes, all unmarried. The language is relatively mild for this genre. Praying to whatever deity might be listening is mentioned.
I think this author has a lot of potential, especially with a good editor. I would probably read a later book by her.
Her Relentless Sheriff was an engaging read overall, but a few details kept it from being a full five-star story for me.
Some of the research and realism issues pulled me out of the story, especially the pregnancy test scene, where the doctor confidently estimates “about six weeks along” and pins down a due date from a simple stick test, which isn’t how those work.
The description of “noise and chaos and overwhelming love of family” also landed oddly—it made the family interaction sound negative when it was meant to be warm, and would have read better with just “chaos.”
Home-repair timelines felt off, too; a completely replaced roof, rebuilt wall, and significant water damage to flooring and drywall would almost certainly take longer than six weeks to fix.
Finally, small proofreading slips like the repeated “arrived arrived” moment pulled my attention away from the characters.
That said, I still enjoyed the romance and the family-focused heart of the story, and with a bit more attention to research and polish, this could be a standout read.
Absolutely loved it! The warmth and camaraderie not to mention the busyness of small town living, the slow burn not rushed romance, the way the town came together to help out when needed was amazing.Sometimes we just need to reminded that good... See your full review
Love a good small town romance especially with a man in uniform with handcuffs. Love seeing a single mom with lots of support and of course the holiday fun. Great read for the holiday season.
