They broke out for me. Now the past is no longer our biggest threat… the future is.
Wren
I thought escaping would be the hardest part, but the world outside those walls is more dangerous than I ever imagined.
The men who once existed only in my letters are now the center of every heartbeat I have, fierce, loyal and terrifyingly devoted. Learning how to belong with them in person feels exhilarating and terrifying all at once.
When someone from my past is pulled into our chaos, the air between us changes. Tension rises between us as loyalties are questioned.
The road ahead feels less like escape and more like a war we can’t avoid.
But these men, they don’t waver. Not when everything we are is being tested. Not when the past presses close. Not even when the future threatens to break us.
The world keeps trying to tear us apart, but we keep finding our way back.
And I’d walk through fire before I’d ever walk away from them.
***This is book two of a trilogy, and this book ends on a cliffhanger. It's a hurt/comfort, why choose, MFMM+ romance novel with dark themes. If you like your men morally gray and over the top obsessive and possessive, then read on! No bullying/mm/ff/cheating/owd. The FMC will not have to choose between her love interests. For a full list of trigger warnings please ShonaKnight dot com
Reverse Harem Author If you love a reverse harem romance with heart, heat and happily ever after, then you've come to the right place! Shona writes full length MFMM+ why choose reverse harem stories that vary from fantasy to contemporary to paranormal. The FMC will always be the main focus of her men!
A lot of her stories focus on women that come from some sort of tortured background, but you will also find some lighthearted fun reads scattered in between!
Got bored with this but still probably going to finish the 3rd book
I am realllyyyy not a fan of RH where a new MMC comes in after the first book/ or not with the original group and not a fan of more than 4 guys so that’s probably it took so long to finish this
The new guy was a virgin since he was in love with her since 13 and got separated for I think 10 years, was kinda peeved that the h didn’t lose her virginity with him but whateverrrr
honestly all you need to know about this book (and the entire series tbh) is that’s it’s filled with “murder, mayhem, and morally grey men” 😜
𝑴𝒚 𝑭𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑭𝒖𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 picks up right where book 2 needs and introduces Wren’s childhood best friend, Elias. you get a lot of development of Wren’s relationship with each guy, trying to still do dates while on the run. but also Wren demanding what she wants and not letting them decide she isn’t ready. Wren continues to find her voice and makes sure she’s an equal partner and not let anyone decide what she is and isn’t ready for.
Continuing from book 1, in this book, we see more of Wren's breaking free from her toxic home life and brother, she is figuring out her own strength, turning into a total firecracker and is discovering her power, becoming a force to be reckoned with" Loved seeing a little of her inner rebel
Besides the 4 fugitives who have crashed her life and protect her full force, we also get to meet the one who orchestrated a lot of it, we meet Elias the FBI agent turned a little rogue. He brings a whole new dynamic into their group.
Spice has ramped up as our little wren gets to know what she wants.
"My Prison Penpals" (book #1) left us on a bit of a cliffhanger at the end! Thankfully, "My Fearless Fugitives" didn't end on quite as bad of one (the author could have ended it a few other times, but I'm glad she didn't!).
This book has a fair bit of action in it. They're on the run from Robert (Wren's brother), Ivan, AND the FBI. Talk about a tense situation! They know they won't be safe until at least Robert and Ivan are dealt with, though.
I won't give anything away, but this was an enjoyable book. I finished it easily in two days (if I didn't have children or need sleep, it would have been less time!) and it kept my attention nearly the entire time. I enjoyed that we got to see more of the characters' personalities and how they all work (or clash!) together. It was also great seeing them slowly get closer to become a pretty great team.
Reading about Elias is a bit sad, knowing how he feels about Wren but being unable to really act on it. The poor guy has lived his entire adult life for her without her even knowing it. Everything he did, everything he became, was for her (and continues to be). I'm glad she returns his feelings (not that the other person knows this about each other for certain), and while I wish she'd have said something to the guys about it, I know it's all a part of the storyline! (And a realistic one at that, considering her character's personality and not wanting to rock the boat.)
I've enjoyed both book one and two, and I can't wait to read the third when it's available!
This book picked up right where book one left off. No easing in, we dive straight back into the chaos.
The angst? THICK. The tension? Unbearable in the best way. And the spice was exactly what I wanted.
What I loved most was the character development. You can feel the growth x the emotional layers peeling back, the shifting dynamics, the vulnerability underneath all that heat and turmoil. Each relationship Wren has with one of her men moves forward and develops further.
And that ending?!?! That cliffhanger had me staring at the wall like I just got personally betrayed. Shona Knight really said “good luck patiently waiting for the next book.
If you love high-stakes romance with angst, spice, and characters who make you FEEL everything, this one delivers.
Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for the next book because I am not okay.
Picking up right where we left off and the action, steam, and character development do not disappoint in Book 2. Wrens continued growth into her own confidence and strength is so satisfying! Seeing each MMC consistently show up, destroy the world for her and learn to be vulnerable made you race into the next chapter for more. Elias is a PERFECT addition to the group too. Highly recommend the series- and screaming over tha ending. March can’t come soon enough!
I loved the introduction to a new character that is actually her childhood best friend who never really left her. I was content with the guys, but I can't wait to see how their story progresses now.
And that cliffhanger! Another great one! I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I am so excited for the 3rd books.
After the cliffhanger from book one, I couldn't wait to dive into this book! And let me tell you I really enjoyed the ride. Going off strong where we ended in the first book, you'll dive straight back into action, following Wren and the guys on their escape from the FBI but also Ivan and Robert.
Shona really knew how to kept the fast pace throughout the story, making scenes funny due the banter between our characters and kept the spice, spicing. Yess she upped the game in this book! I loved how the characters kept growing personally. The background, especially from the guys, got more out in the open, making me love them much more than possible.
With the ending of this book I can't wait to dive into the last part of this series!
Shona Knight, thanks for the ARC to read and review.
This was SO good! After the cliffhanger the first book left us on, I was dying to get my hands on this and it definitely did not disappoint. This book had suspense, just like the first book, which I loved. The spice level really picked up in this book too. Wink, wink. One of my favorite elements is how dang funny and witty these characters are, especially Pete! I laughed out loud multiple times. Shona's dialogue skills are next level and they keep you engaged in this story, unable to put it down. But Reader be warned, this ends on the best cliffhanger that I never saw coming and loved so much! I can't wait to see what happens next!
The second book still has as much if not more action and suspense. I love how the group dynamics and characters are growing, especially Wren. Lots of major reveals and I cannot wait for book 3!!
I was counting down the days for this book release because I enjoyed book 1 so much but I found it really disappointing. Wren's annoying. The convicts are weirdly childish and I'm still struggling to tell most of them apart. And what is up with Elias?
Okay… so I have to start with a little disclaimer 😭 I had a hard time reading this book, but not because of the book itself, just life being life. So I feel like my experience might’ve been a bit affected by that. Still, I wanted to write this because I did have thoughts… just maybe more mixed compared to the first book, which I absolutely loved.
And I don’t want this to sound like hate at all, because it’s not. It’s more like… I didn’t connect the same way this time.
Quick context: In this book, we continue Wren’s story alongside Dex, Pete, Jagger, and Sly, but we’re also introduced to a new (and very important) character: Elias. He’s an FBI agent and Wren’s ex-best friend, who has basically dedicated his life to protecting her of everything that happening with her brother. He’s also the one behind all the “mysterious coincidences” that led to the prison escape.
And I’m not gonna lie… I really felt for Elias 🥲 Like, I genuinely had a lot of empathy for him. Knowing that he spent his whole life trying to protect Wren, only to be met with so much suspicion… it was a bit hard to read at times. I get why the guys don’t trust easily, and I do understand the dynamic, but emotionally I was like… “can we give him a little grace?” 😭
At some points, I was even a bit frustrated (not in a bad way, just like emotionally invested) because everything felt very tense and messy. There was a lot of jealousy, a lot of confusion, and not as many soft or grounding moments to balance it out.
I also feel like we didn’t get enough Wren + Elias interactions, which made me a little sad considering their history. I would have loved to see more flashbacks instead of just retelling, and maybe more quiet moments where Wren gets to just exist? Like discovering little things she enjoys, building her identity outside of everything she’s been through… those cozy moments.
That being said, I did enjoy getting more background on the characters. Pete and Dex still have my heart 💖 Jagger was solid, and Sly… I liked him, just had mixed feelings after a certain scene.
And okay… that scene.
If you know, you know 😬 (If you don’t: I’m talking about their first time together) I don’t know if it was just me, but it didn’t fully land emotionally. Not saying it was bad, just… I think I expected something with a bit more depth? Especially for Wren. My girl deserved a moment that felt more her, you know?
BUT, on the good side ✨
The plot is still strong. I really liked the code word (it was fun, not gonna lie), and I loved seeing a more confident Wren. We also get answers to things from the first book, which made everything feel more connected.
And the drama? Oh, it’s there 👀
But the plot twist?? That one ate. I actually really liked it.
So overall, I think this book just felt a bit more transitional to me, like it’s setting things up for what’s coming next, rather than being my favorite on its own.
Final thoughts:
⭐ 3 stars 🌶️ 3 spice 💖 2/5 emotional connection (there’s spice, just not as much emotional depth as I personally wanted)
I think what I missed the most was that emotional weight, the kind that makes you feel everything. Especially with Elias, because the potential there?? So good.
Am I being a little picky? Probably 😭 but also… I know what this author can do, so my expectations are high.
I’m really, really hoping book three gives me the same feeling as the first one (or even more), because I only have two days to wait (it comes out on the 27th and today is the 25th 😭✨), so yes… expectations are building.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
TL;DR: A reverse harem where the men are basically high-lethality golden retrievers—loud, posturing, and completely useless at strategy.
If My Prison Penpals was a masterclass in the "Born Yesterday" trope, My Fearless Fugitives is a crash course in criminal incompetence. For a book featuring four hardened, escaped convicts and a literal FBI agent, this collective brain trust possesses exactly zero tactical sense when it comes to keeping their girl safe.
Here is the spoiler-heavy breakdown of the chaos:
I zoned out during half the plot because the sheer stupidity of their planning was outstanding. I genuinely cannot remember how half the logistics worked, mostly because none of it made sense. But did it end on a dramatic kidnapping cliffhanger that guarantees I’m going to read Book 3 just to see this trainwreck cross the finish line?
I am both desperate for book three and completely unwilling to let this group go. That’s how attached I’ve become.
♥ “Any normal person would run screaming, They’d be smart to. But Wren…she sees beneath our darkness, our burdens, and our pasts. She seems to see right into our souls.” 🗡
Wren’s growth continues to be the emotional heart of this series. Watching her slowly unravel the lies her brother built her life around has been powerful, but what makes it even stronger is how realistic her development feels. She doesn’t magically heal or suddenly gain clarity and confidence overnight. She stumbles. She regresses. She questions herself. And that authenticity makes every step forward feel earned.
🗡 “Because one thing is for sure, I won’t ever be truly happy without all of them in my life.” ♥
The guys remain incredibly endearing in their devotion to her. Their protectiveness and obsession are obvious, but it never feels hollow; it feels intentional. That said, I did find myself wanting a little more depth from them beyond their desire to protect and claim Wren. The glimpses of budding friendship between the guys were promising, and I’m hopeful that book three will expand on that dynamic, especially given where this installment left off.
♥ “You were brave enough to write to four monsters. You can’t be surprised we’d tear the world apart to keep you.” 🗡
Elias was a standout addition to the group. Every small reveal about his past made my heart ache for him. I loved the role he played in this book, particularly how his presence reinforced the grounded, realistic tone of Wren’s journey. I’m excited to see how he integrates further into the group moving forward.
🗡 “I’d do anything for her, even if that meant when this was all over, she walked away with them, and not me.” ♥
The pacing felt slower than book one, but it was layered with tension that made it impossible to put down. The quiet moments, the guys fighting to give Wren pieces of normalcy, were some of my favorites. Those scenes were soft, sweet, and deepened each individual bond in meaningful ways. Book three cannot come soon enough!
♥ “I thought you had left me, that you’d forgotten about me.” 🗡
🗡 “I could never forget you, Wren.” ♥
And Shona… you absolutely knew what you were doing with “womb raider.” My dog did not deserve to be startled awake by my laughter.
My Fearless Fugitives by Shona Knight continues Wren’s story after the explosive events of My Prison Penpals — but unfortunately, this installment didn’t quite work for me.
Going into book two, I expected the story to expand: higher stakes, deeper character growth, and some forward momentum toward resolving the larger conflict introduced in the first book. Instead, this felt very much like a transitional—or filler—installment, where the narrative moves only slightly while the focus shifts heavily toward spice over plot.
And spice-forward stories can absolutely work. The issue here is how quickly Wren’s characterization changes. After spending most of her life isolated and controlled, her adjustment to freedom — particularly sexual confidence — happens almost overnight. What could have been a nuanced healing journey instead feels rushed, creating a disconnect between her background and her behavior. Certain moments, especially the post-procedure IUD scene, pushed that disconnect too far for me and broke my immersion entirely.
The series already asks readers for a fair amount of suspension of disbelief, which I was willing to grant in book one. But in My Fearless Fugitives, the tension between premise and execution becomes harder to ignore. These men are convicted fugitives actively hiding from the law, yet much of the story unfolds through casual outings, public dates, and everyday activities that feel incompatible with the danger supposedly surrounding them. Even within escapist dark romance, some grounding helps maintain emotional stakes — and here, that anchor felt missing.
There are still elements I appreciate. The found-family dynamic remains strong, the devotion between the characters is unmistakable, and the story clearly aims for comfort, healing, and emotional safety after trauma. Readers looking primarily for protective, obsessive heroes and relationship-focused scenes will likely enjoy this installment more than I did.
For me, though, the balance tipped too far away from plot and believability, leaving the story feeling stalled rather than evolved.
I’m still curious to see how the trilogy concludes — but this middle book didn’t live up to the promise set by the series opener.
3/5📚 (undeserved) 4/5🌶️ Bro I thought after getting kidnapped for the 500 time, the FMC will finally grow a back bone. But no luck in that department. Book 1 was peak and book 2 is a simple cash grab.
The 3 books are released by 1 month apart and it shows by the lack of quality. No one wants to read a book in which all the situation aren’t super unrealistic to begin with and then they’re resolved in a few sentences. The storyline gets lame super super quickly seeing that it’s the same over and over again. They’re on the road from hotel to hotel, than she gets kidnapped, they find here in mere hours and are on the road again. Until the next time she is kidnapped and found in a few hours… What’s with the repetitive stuff? As if you can’t come up with something else than kidnapping and road trips lol Also why can 4 convicted murdered and 1 highly trained FBI agent not once outplay her attackers? They always fall victim to a pair of airheads who basically steal Wren from right under their nose! And you guys want to become hired killers? Delusional final boss.
I enjoy the characters and the writing style so sadly I can’t even bring myself to rate this as bad as it deserves, because I am in fact somewhat entertainment and waiting for book 3. Objectively this book doesn’t deserve a rating over 1 star maybe 2 if you squeeze both eyes shut.
I don’t understand why Jagger only has 2 chapters in this book and a single one in book 1 dedicated to him? He is the character that can’t speak so having his pov would matter the most to the readers?!?!?! And instead we get the POV of Elias and ROBERT?? Lets cut that and gives us more Jagger instead!
Also I have to say especially in a reverse harem book that already features multiple main characters, it’s so not necessary to put the spotlight on 2 more additional characters. I don’t give a shit about Elias POV (and definitely don’t see why he now has to join the harem🙄) and definitely not Robert’s.
(I don’t vibe with Elias at all just because he is incorporated in a way that makes it unbelievably that she actually has feelings for him)
My Fearless Fugitives is the kind of sequel that doesn’t just pick up where book one left off—it grabs you by the throat and drags you straight into the fallout. 🖤🔥
What hit me the most was how the story shifts from “escape” to “survival.” The outside world is somehow even more dangerous, and the tension doesn’t let up. Wren is trying to figure out who she is beyond the walls, while also learning what it means to truly belong with the men who once felt safer at a distance. 🥺💞 Seeing those relationships become real—messy, intense, and deeply emotional—was everything I wanted from this continuation. 😮💨✨
The hurt/comfort elements were strong, and I loved how devoted (and unapologetically obsessive) the guys are. 🛡️😈 It’s dark, it’s high-stakes, and the emotional pressure keeps building, especially when pieces of Wren’s past collide with their present. 💔➡️❤️🩹 Loyalty is tested, fears resurface, and the bond between them has to hold under pressure in a way that felt raw and believable.
Also: the spice? Absolutely there. 🌶️🔥 But for me, it’s the protective, morally gray devotion and the constant “we will burn the world down for her” energy that really made this book unputdownable.
Just a heads up—this is book two in a trilogy and it does end on a cliffhanger. 😭📚 If you like your romance dark, intense, and packed with obsession, forced proximity, and serious hurt/comfort, you’ll want to read this. 🖤✨
"Disclaimer: "I received a free copy of this book and am leaving my review voluntarily.”
So I know i'm probably gonna upset some of you with this one , but unpopular opinion , something about these past two books have given me a lot of disconnect. My two favorite characters are jagger and dex. Something about jagger being just this big , giant softy teddy bear with a dark side , just , you know , grabs all the morally gray , loving dovey feels that I have inside me and just wraps him up into a big teddy bear that's what I like about him. And who can't love dex?A fucking crazy motherfucker and I love him. Oops, should I have maybe put a warning label on my reviews that I get a little mouthy?Oh wait , yeah , I already did that in my profile. The rest of the guys are cool. But I just it's all moving so bloody slow. When I took on this series , I had seen it all over my tiktok for dark romance morley , grey men forced proximity damsel , it marked every single one of my fun zones. And some of my goodreads friends were like, oh, you've got to read it, it's so great, it's so wonderful. And then i'm faced with the reality of it. Maybe if I had gone into it blind , then it would have been better , but I went into it expecting so much from it and it just did not deliver. I am gonna read book 3.However, I am going to take a break from it first and read filler series.I think it's called blood moon or something like that.Just something frivolous and silly, just to fill in a little bit of brain power. So then I can go back and read book three. Or should I say lack of brain power l o l. I shall return, possibly, no most likely.I will return...
My Fearless Fugitives it the second book of The Undertakers, a dark themed contemporary why choose romance. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author for my eArc.
Tropes and themes include: ✨Why choose (mfmmm) ✨Naive but smart FMC ✨Prior psychological abu$e and grooming ✨Wanting to be loved and desired ✨Mute MMC (uses sign language) ✨Hurt/comfort ✨Forced proximity ✨Age gap ✨Childhood friend ✨Touch her and die ✨Multi, first person POV
The Lovely: Whereas the FMC and MMCs had reached some stability in their relationships, the beginning of this book throws a bit of a wrench into it. And everyone is struggling. You can feel the hurt/comfort in your soul as the MMCs try to help the FMC understand the trauma she experienced. I felt for all the MCs and their devotion to each other was perfection.
Recommendation: The ending cliff wasn’t *quite* as rough as book one but that reveal? Totally didn’t see that coming. The good news is the author is rapid releasing this trilogy and the final book will be released at the end of March. If you like a contemporary why choose romance with darker themes and all the hurt/comfort moments, I think you would love this book.
This story picked up right where we were left hanging at the end of My Prison Penpals and immediately we are thrown into chaos and a new dynamic is added to the harem!
“These men are chaos, all sharp edges and danger, but none of that is aimed at me. They fight for me and protect me. Laugh with me. And they make the world feel wide open instead of small.”
I really enjoyed the addition of Elias, her childhood crush/best friend. The prison penpals did NOT. 😅 Trust doesn’t come easy to any of Wren’s men so there is a lot of push and shove throughout this story.
The ENDING however, was EVERYTHING! I can’t give anything away just know that there is some hard won trust finally earned in the end and a twist that had me SHOOK.
“You’ve been such a good girl for me. I think it’s only fair that I reward you now. Would you like that?”
The spice has also progressed in this second book and I felt like it was a really natural shift. All of the guys are really good about taking things at Wren’s speed and allowing her to figure out what SHE wants.
“Use your words, Wren. Tell him what you want. Describe it.”
I will just be sitting here, FERAL, for the final book!
Tropes: 🧗 CLIFFHANGER ❤️🔥 Why Choose 🫶🏼 Innocent FMC x Dangerous Men 🤭 Soft Only for Her 🥵 Good Girl Praise 💋 Spicy Lessons 💖 Men Who Share & Men Who Don’t
Yes!! This was just as good as the first and I’m dying for the last one!! So this starts exactly where the last book left off. Spicier and darker (imo) than the first book. Great banter and the chemistry was definitely still there.
Wren is still learning new things about the real world, coming out of her shell more and learning to protect herself. But she still needs to be reminded that what her brother did was wrong. She also is staring to get to know her best friend again and learns that he didn’t just leave her 7 years ago, he’s been trying to find a way to save her. Could we possibly have a new love interest? 🫠 Elias is definitely the only green flag MMC 🤣 but I love how obsessed and unhinged the other MMC are.
That plot twist at the end 😱 so definitely left us on another cliff…..
No cheating, no OWD…. And they are all still together
* Hurt / Comfort * Groom€d FMC * Naive but Smart FMC * Touch Her and ☠️ * Age Gap * Mute MMC * Virg!n FMC & MMC * Morally Grey MMCs * Unh!nged & Obsessed MMCs * Forced Proximity
“He’s right. I’m not sure how she’s so undisturbed by everything we’ve done in the past. Any normal person would run screaming. They’d be smart to. But Wren… she sees beneath our darkness, our burdens, and our pasts. She seems to see right into our souls. It makes me want to be a better man for her.”—Jagger
After the ending in book one I was do excited to what would happen next. Now they are a group of six and have added running from the FBI to their list of people wanting to catch them.
Oh poor sweet Elias. This boy has been pining for a looooong time. He has been trying to get her out since he disappeared all those years ago. Now when he has her in his sights she's with four men he didn't think were interested in her like that. Seriously he had this whole idea about how their reunion would go and instead he's dealing with the other four men.
This book was filled with so much action. It hit the ground running but still found time for dates and relationship growth. This one had some really good spicy scenes and Wren finally lost that V card.
I love seeing Seen breaking free from her past more and more. We see her gaining skills and confidence. The end of this book kept ramping up and it made me worried about where it was going to end. While it absolutely ended on a cliffhanger I feel like this was a bit easier to handle after everything that happened in this book.
I can't wait to see how this plays out and I really want Elias to get added to her harem. He deserves to be included and I just hope it works out. Seriously this boy is so far gone for her.
