Voodoo, betrayal, and a vampire mom-to-be in danger—Violet’s running out of time.
The end is nigh…
Almost.
Violet has rallied allies for the war looming on the horizon. Clara and Dave remain her fiercest supporters, but Clara—despite a brief return to normal—is acting strange.
Stranger than usual.
When a trip to visit Marie goes spectacularly wrong, the truth becomes impossible to ignore. The vampires have escalated their campaign to dethrone Clara—and they’ve done something to her. Something dangerous. Something that could threaten Clara’s baby… and upend the balance of the coming war.
While trying to calm an enraged Sea King and convince Marie to pick a side (preferably the non-apocalyptic one), Violet barely has time to breathe. But the real danger is still lurking. Someone is playing a deeper, deadlier game. And when Violet finally uncovers the truth behind Clara’s affliction, one impossible question
Is trusting her allies worth risking the world?
A Smidge of Voodoo raises the stakes as S.E. Babin blends danger, dark magic, and emotional depth into Violet’s wildest challenge yet. With alliances cracking and voodoo forces rising, this installment delivers suspense, heart, and signature Cocktails in Hell chaos.
S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.
Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. WARNING! Cliffhanger! This one is traumatic, a 5/5 on my trauma scale, but luckily the final book is already out so not much waiting to do.
Something is wrong with Clara, and Violet is determined to help her. Meanwhile she has still got Angel problems, and now she has vampire problems on top of them. Then there is the meeting they’re planning with the Voodoo queen…
Well that didn’t last long. Once again Violet finds herself betrayed, Easton’s motivations are revealed, and dark plots finally come to light. It’s a puzzle to me as to why she finds it easy to forgive Easton, but I guess the true answer is that he doesn’t really matter that much to her. His attractiveness seems to be predicated on the fact that he’s a low stakes gamble for her, it just annoys me how willingly she forgives him, and not others. The other issues she faces are fairly predictable, but reveal some interesting things too. We also get to see several of the missing characters in this book, as they are called upon or helped to get to her. Violet herself has changed too, the closer they get to war, the more she becomes a morally grey figure, making the tough choices that may or may not be wholly justified.
A fast, and somewhat action packed addition to this series, this isn’t a standalone by any means, picking up where the last book left off, and leaving us high and dry on a cliffhanger! It’s an entertaining series, with fascinating characters, and an interesting world they all live in. Recommended for urban and contemporary fantasy lovers, especially those who like angels and demons.
Violet wants to get the vampires and Marie Laveau to join her in the fight against Michael but there are a couple of problems. Clara is not acting normal, she’s not friendly with anyone, forgets things including her pregnancy and wants to bite Violet. There is a spell on her that everyone feels goes back to the vampires who want to get rid of Clara. There is also a problem with going to see Marie. Nothing is ever easy for Violet and friends. This book has some action, magic, suspense, humour and a very surprising ending. Glad I have the next book. These books make me laugh even knowing that there will be violence and some dark subjects. I find them very enjoyable, easy, quick reads. Another series I will recommend.
This one has a number of moving parts but they don't all move together or have any resolution. It felt like this one spun out of control and just kept tripping over itself. From Clara's sudden issues, to returning secondary characters (with no explanation), to sudden ex-boyfriends becoming maybe current(?), to current becoming ex-. to Violet issues (and Lucifer) to the voodoo queen and angel armies. Explanations are lacking and lots of balls are left hanging in the air. Since the next book is the finale I'm hoping things are wrapped up, this one needs some help.
Umm ya! What the hell do I say. This book is such a roller coaster. It dips, it dives, throws in a couple 180s and a full 360. But man it was too short by far, but I only say that because I love Violet and this world of hers. It has grown to something more than magical and one that we would all fight to have. But man... that freaking cliff hanger! Oh and umm ya just gonna drop this name Alister!
A Smidge of Voodoo, book six of the Cocktails in Hell series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Babin doesn't disappoint in this new book of the series, maintaining the high level of snark, surprises, and secondary characters. Violet had quite the adventure, and this installment ends on a doosy of a cliffhanger. I loved the unexpected relationship tangent. I'm eagerly awaiting book eight.
Yeah, no. I’m only finishing this series because I want to read Carla’s spin off and I’d like to know what happens before she’s exiled. I like a few of the side and minor characters - that’s why the two stars - but I skimmed a lot of this because, once again, . I’m glad there’s only one book left in this series. Ugh.
Wow, Violet really just can't seem to catch a break. Man troubles, friend problems, deadbeat dad... but still Violet keeps trucking on. Loving the way the series has been ramping up towards the end. Love the developing relationship between Violet and Luci, as well as her close friendship with Clara (and her love, Dave). Having a great time reading these books. Love the way the characters have grown. Only one more book to go.
Just when you think things will turn out a certain way, something happens to upend everything! I was not expecting this book to go how it did....but I loved it! I love all the characters in this series and how they compliment each other. I think violet and Lucifer are my 2 favorite characters. I really want violet to find her happy ending before the series ends!
This book was a bit of a “filler”. I understand the reason: to set up book 8 but it would have been much better if it had been part of book 8….in my opinion. Also, predictable. I gave it a 5 star however because it remains well written and interesting. Serves the content.
This book is very similar to the rest of the series. The author almost seems bipolar about picking a leading man for our heroine. The blurb for this book isn't a good description of the book. It isn't as inaccurate as the one for book 1. However, the parts described in the blurb only cover part of the story.
I borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 7th book in the series. I would say they need to be read in order. It could be confusing. There are a lot of names. I enjoy the leas character and her odd assortment of friends. 4 stars
Alrighty then, Violet has garnered a great amount of power but once again finds her self imprisoned. This time by her dad. What's in-store for her this time? Looking forward to book 8.
There were some new interesting side characters and found out some answers on how things shook out. Really need to know how it's all going to come together.
Violet's story is amazing. I love this series. My heart is breaking for her. There's so much to unpack but I ain't spoiling nothing. Where will we venture next?
I stumbled on this series a few days ago and haven't come up for air since. It has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster, and I can't wait for the next installment!!
This book is just as interesting as the other ones, but for some reason I liked it the least so far. It’s still exciting and I can’t wait to pick up the next one. Five stars.
I really didn't suspect that Marie was already allied until the very end. It was such a gut twisting story. I was so concerned about the vamp queen and I was happy to get Landry back. I hope we will see the unseelie king again soon. I miss Keelie and want to know more about what Max has gone through.
