Rate this book
Behind the Barrier, life is orderly, safe, and perfectly controlled.

Until Jillian begins to unravel.

Her role is hunt the astral anomalies that slip through the cracks of reality and keep humanity alive. But when her newest target—an elusive, dangerously compelling Wishmaster—cuts through her defenses, something inside her stirs.

A memory that shouldn't exist. A voice she shouldn't recognize.

Then comes her partner. Engineered by OptiMate to be her ideal match, he walks in with familiar eyes and a smile that shouldn’t mean anything… yet somehow does.

Caught between two impossible connections—one haunting, one familiar, both irresistible—Jillian begins to sense a deeper threat. The Barrier protects them from the outside world—but something far more insidious is rewriting her from within.

In a world built on illusions, how do you fight an enemy who lives inside your memories?

A steamy dark sci-fi fantasy romance set in a dystopian world—perfect for readers who crave twisted love triangles, strange magic, and truths sharp enough to hurt.

Ok… this book absolutely ROCKED! - It's been a while since I've been sucked into the world and plot of a good sci-fi book, but this was just *chef's kiss* fantastic. 15/10, 6 stars, CANNOT wait for book 2.

The pacing of it was amazing, the banter and plot and character development, the way we start to learn about the characters, the world, their Lumina, etc - but only enough to have tons more questions - CANNOT wait to find out what the real deal with Eric and why him forcing his Lumina into them has the side effects and causes pain and all for something they supposedly need to live, and presumably do their jobs and use their abilities and all - my bet/guess is 10000% that he's somehow altered them or blocked their abilities to make their own or stolen theirs or something idk - but I NEEEEEED to know/find out.

Without giving any spoilers, though, it ends with the BIGGEST cliffhanger I've read this year, and within the top 5 of the last year - and that includes Onyx Storm (with a 2+ wait for book 4). There was SOOOOOOO much information and teasers in the last few chapters, the epilogue - and now I just have sooooo many questions - who/what tf are the Hand, who tf is Him/He, what the heck is the Protocol? Laura better be ok too. Can't imagine Dan is going to be too happy about what happened at the Reunion/gala/press event and all (and can't imagine Optimate is gonna be too happy about their newly rebuilt HQ needing to be rebuilt again already lol)….. there's SOOO many questions about more specifics with their abilities, the world, Dan talked about "other cities" but it had seemed like they were the last one earlier on so what does he know - how many are still out there, why is the Barrier weakening, what had Dan meant telling her that he was dead, I need book 2 like yesterday! literally can't wait - this book sucked me in and the characters and plot were awesome, and just the right amount of spice - definitely can't wait to see where that goes, how she and Jayden deal living together, how the plot and twists and turns are gonna reveal themselves. Was soooo good - definitely recommend you dive in now!

Went down a different genre for the most part on this BookSirens read. Not a single complaint at all!

I got sucked in and couldn't put it down. It definitely had some spice and was paced very well. The story itself and the banter and that CLIFFHANGER!!!!

This was my first book to read from this author and I'm HOOKED!

The world building, and slowly revealed backstories drew me in and held me captivated.

I am so eager for the next book, leaving this one on a cliffhanger ending left me spluttering and waving my hands in the air, "but I need more!"

Come on Shayan, give us another hit of that dystopia, we are itching for it

This book really caught my interest. It’s been a long time since I read a sci-fi apocalypse genre so to me it’s something I’ve been looking forward to. And this book doesn’t disappoint!

Jill is not a normal human being. So getting a normal romantic experience… is not easy. After a drunken bet, Jill is one step away to have her own perfect partner, a cyborg with perfect compatibility. At the same time, Jill caught in the charms of the wishmaker. She couldn’t understand his motives poking around her and inside the barrier but she knew her heart beat faster with him.

The whole world concept is nicely written. The only frustrating thing to me is that by the end of the book I couldn’t put into detail what Luminara actually is? Is it like a superhuman or mix-genes human creature or is it actually a creature living inside the body, like a werewolf? There’s no clear indication what it actually is in the ARC Copy. I might be the one missing the hints but the confusion leads me to feel more of a confused feeling with the ending instead of surprised.

But I can’t deny it. I am intrigued to read the next book of the series. I need to know who is Him.

I kept going back between 3.5 and 4. I thought it was such a good read that I finished it in just a few days! There were a lot things i liked and a lot of plot holes im sure would get covered in the second book. The astral thing was a little confusing and sometimes it was hard to figure out what certain things were. I think a glossary wouldve helped in picturing what a riot or lamdha is. Overall im excited for the next book (:

I enjoyed this book a lot! I love unique storylines and plots and this book definitely delivered. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I really enjoyed the world-building and the universe that this story takes place in. I honestly didn't really like Jillian's character at first, but she actually won me over by the end of the book. I loved this book and am excited for the sequel!
