Safe With Me

Rate this book
Kingston Maverick didn't have time for love. His days were spent running a multi-million-dollar software company and being a single father to his nine-year-old autistic daughter. Love wasn't on his mind. Love wasn't in his plans. Love was an afterthought… until he met his new nanny. Could the new nanny be the one to defrost his frigid heart?

Life hadn't been kind to Onyx Score. In the blink of an eye, she lost everything she had worked hard for. Determined to figure it out on her own, she returned to her hometown of Ravenstone Creek to start over again. Love wasn't in her plans. Love was a distraction she didn't need. If only she could ignore the bone-deep, body-numbing, mind-spinning chemistry she felt for her new boss.

Kingston and Onyx both face obstacles. Can they figure it out? Will love be enough to make a relationship between two opposites work?

‘Safe with Me’ is book one of a three-book interconnected series, but can be read as a standalone.

Poor Onyx was going through a rough time when the perfect opportunity to nanny landed in her lap. Enter Kingston & his daughter Aubrey. Aubrey had Autism and I’m almost positive Kingston does too though it wasn’t a plot point. They were opposites who very slowly fell in love. And through their love they both were able to get the true desires of their heart…unconditional love. My biggest criticism with this book was the fact that it was a slow burn with a 3rd act breakup. Like how are yall literally only together for less than 20 pages🫠Authors have the right to make whatever creative choices they want but for me, it made me want to DNF. I stuck with it though and was glad to see that things worked out for everyone. It seems like a series is being built as there’s a book coming with Kingston’s brother and Onyx’s best friend, but I don’t feel like we got enough of their personalities for me to be intrigued about their story.

Tora’s latest release, Safe With Me, ventures into a fresh lane for the author—contemporary romance—and it absolutely does not disappoint! This slow-burn, grumpy x sunshine nanny romance with thoughtful autism representation had me hooked from start to finish.

Kingston Maverick, a devoted single father and the head of a thriving software company, has no room in his life for love—until Onyx Score arrives as his new nanny. Onyx, returning to her hometown to rebuild her life, isn’t looking for love either. Yet the sparks between them are undeniable. Watching their relationship develop slowly, with each glance and moment of vulnerability, was an absolute treat.

The emotional growth in both characters felt authentic and deeply satisfying. Kingston’s journey from closed-off and rigid to open-hearted and willing to risk love, paired with Onyx’s determination to reclaim her life and embrace new possibilities, made their romance feel earned. The slow burn allowed their connection to develop organically, and by the time the walls came down, I was fully invested in their love story.

Tora’s foray into contemporary romance is a triumph. Safe With Me delivers heartfelt character arcs, tender family moments, and a romance that lingers long after the last page. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a character-driven story with emotional depth and a perfectly paced build to love!

After reading other genres from Author Tora, like urban fiction & dark romance, I can tell my girl was holding back a little, but I know this is a new genre for her and she’s going to kill it! This being her first contemporary romance this was so cute, I want more if im being honest.

I can’t wait to see what Author Tora has cooking up in 2026.

Review:

I like the bonding relationship that happened between Onyx & Kingston- I also like the relationship between Aubrey & Onxy! This was really cute. I don’t like the fact that Onxy parents and that dance teacher got away with doing her dirty. F them all.
I definitely recommend this one y’all

When I tell you I love a grumpy MMC… I mean it with my whole chest! And Kingston? Oh, he fit that bill perfectly. Gruff, set in his ways, and running his life on straight structure, especially when it came to raising his autistic daughter as a single father. Everything had a system: schedules, approved foods, specific hobbies, all to make sure his baby was always cared for and protected. Watching how intentional he was with her warmed my whole heart. 🥹

When he realized he needed a new nanny, he never in a million years expected that letting his brothers suggest someone would turn his entire world upside down. And enter Onyx, my girl was starting fresh after having her heart broken and found herself back in her hometown, her safe place. Even though her grandmother had passed, the town still felt like home in her spirit.

Now baby… when she accepted the job to nanny for the grumpiest man she’d met in a while, she had no idea what she was walking into. But Onyx was on a mission...collect her coin, handle her business, and keep it pushing. What she didn’t plan on was her new boss slowly working his way into her heart.

I read this one as an ARC, and let me tell you, it was so cute. A true slow burn filled with tenderness, patience, and real love. It also beautifully showed how being open and adaptable to change can lead you right into the life you didn’t even know you needed.

I’ve always been a fan of this author, but getting me to fully fall into a contemporary romance like this? Yeah… that was a blessing in disguise.

Y’all go on and grab this one...you won’t be disappointed. 💕📚

My heart is full and warm and fuzzy. Throughout Safe With Me I found myself randomly smiling so much my cheeks hurt. The autism representation was beautifully written expressing one of many forms of autism and shows her research was thoroughly done and I love the bond she developed with the FMC. I will say the FMC “mother and father” can happily catch these hands and I wish she let her man take care of them. The small simple thoughtful gestures they did for each other showed love even before they could admit it and get it together but I absolutely loved their story.

Beautiful Read 🥰🥰

When the heart knows what it wants, there’s no fighting it. An autistic person has a beautiful soul and loving heart. The military life is not for the weak. First allow me to say that mention of autism was a plus for me. I’m of mother of a disabled son so mentioning it in a read is just beautiful and my heart smiled. Then the mentioning of no support for veterans is a slept on topic in the world today. So now let’s chat!

I honestly have to say that Kingston was not my favorite person, but he honestly redeemed himself. He has that true military mindset and there is no changing it😔. What I admire the most was how he was with his autistic daughter Aubrey! This man is moving mountains for babygirl🫶🏽. Now ya boy was good with life as it just him, his daughter., siblings and parents. He did expect that an interview for a new nanny would change all of that - Onyx🥰. Though he wasn’t looking for love, it appeared out of no where. Kingston cat and mouse chase with Onyx was sweet & cute at first but then you can’t help but realize he was scared of his own feelings🤭. The feelings he had was new to him. What also played apart was the connection Onyx & Aubrey had🥰. He knew how hard it is for his daughter to connect with people, so for her to connect with Onyx the way she did was the cherry on top🥰. But when something that was out of her control happens, his reaction was foul and unnecessary to me. Oh but his comeback was everything 🥹🥰!

Onyx, my girl couldn’t win for losing😔. Her vibe and energy was beautiful but her luck was not the best. You know us woman tend to wear our feelings on our shelves and run with it🤭. Her doing this caused her more pain than good. Making that step to return home wasn’t easy but needed. My girl went through it😔. Who can go back home and the best friend has a job waiting. We all need best friends like that🥰. Who would’ve thought that a job offer could be the change that you needed and brings you the love & person you needed - Kingston 🥰. Not only did you find your person and bonus child, you learned that those that created you has hurt you in the worst way😡. Oh but that past🫣, who thought it would come back haunt you and cause you more pain. Oh but love has other plans.

Audrey is the character love🥰. Her energy was beautiful. You honestly couldn’t do anything but love her. Though she was autistic, she was very talented. Ya girl was loved like no other and deserved it all🥰. Most autistic people don’t trust or make friends easily but when they do, they never want to let go and that’s exactly what happened with her & Onyx🫶🏽! I loved their relationship down!

This read was different from what the author is known for and I enjoyed it. Have to be honest as I wished there was more on Onyx parent and what they did but other than that, the read was beautiful. It got stars from me just off having a character with a disability 🥰! Definitely look forward to more from Author Tora!

Really Good

I wanted the FMC's ex to be unalived because he was just that dirty. I was glad to see her stick to her guns & move away & on from him. He was bad news in many different ways.
She goes home & meets the MMC who is the brother of a set of twins that she has known for most of her life. He has a daughter who is autistic & was abandoned by her mother. This book shows the love of a father for his child. He makes sure that she is in an environment that works for her. The way the book explains the type of autism she has & how he as a father has navigated it was well done.
The FMC becomes rhe nanny of this child & the MMC was a grumpy sunshine character with a military background. It was nice to see him warm up to her.

Safe With Me

Onyx battled grief like anyone else would. I loved the rawness shown. I love the perseverance, the comeback & I loved her overall. Kingston was that stern serious man that just had to navigate life as a “norm” with a talented and smart autistic star named Aubrey. They were strict but it worked for them. Honestly it seemed like he had undiagnosed autism 🤷🏾‍♀️ All three different & needed one another. I love that Aubrey’s autism was “magically cured” when she got comfortable with Onyx but it showed that a person can be comfortable to learn what they need. I cried when they had disconnect and cried again when they got it right!!!! Your first book under your new name is excellent as the others!! I love it!!!

I'm sitting here kicking my feet screaming because I've found one of my favorites of the year.❤️ I absolutely loved this story 🤧 It was 183 pages of just heartfelt beauty. The FMC, Onyx had this free spirited, graceful aura while the MMC, Kingston had this protective, hard exterior but soft for the ones he loved type of aura. There was a little spice which i loved because i actually was able to experience the story. And Kingston's daughter Aubrey added so much substance and joy to it! 🤗🤧 I miss them already.

Nanny love

This was a cute book. I felt so badly for all that the things Onyx been through in her life. Her parents were assholes. The fact that her grandmother poured into her and loved her was sweet but every kid wants the love their parents. Then that old ass man preying on her. But Kingston and Aubrey gave her the family she was missing. Kingston didn’t play about her. Is it only me that thought he was possibly on the spectrum as well? Aubrey basically acted just like her father.

Safe With Me

Safe With Me is a sweet, healing romance about a woman returning home after a painful breakup. She becomes a nanny for an autistic child, and while his ex-military father rubs her the wrong way at first, their slow-burn connection grows into something real and tender.
It’s warm, emotional, and all about trust, growth, and building a loving family. A comforting, heartfelt read.

This was a good and easy read. Definitely a sunshine/ grumpy love story. I loved that Onyx was able to achieve redemption despite her life taking a different path than she expected. There were a few errors and the book formatting was a bit off. I felt like the story lacked depth all in all my rating is 3.5 stars. Definitely give it a read if you’re looking for a quick read with an easy love story.

slow burn love

Onyx wanted to experience a relationship with 360 safety; emotionally, physically and financially. It was right within her grasp with Kingston until an incident jeopardized the future they were building. I absolutely loved the Autism representation by way of sweet, little Ms. Aubrey. It was ssoooo spot on and very reminiscent of my own child that is on the spectrum. This was a sweet read that is a slow burn and has a HEA that I absolutely love!

This was a ARC I had the pleasure of reading im not usually a fan of age gap but this story between Kingston and Onyx was an exception. Who knew a single wealthy dad who needed a nanny for his Autistic daughter would come across a Ballet student returning to her home town for a fresh start. This definitely is worth the read I enjoyed the flow and the ending left me pleased.

Great read!

Author Tora has written a lovely romance between two people who were completely different. I loved how intentional Kingston was with his daughter and Onyx. He came across as solid, sexy and confident. Onyx was sweet and her acceptance of Aubrey made me like her even more. Great romance that was believable. Looking forward to Myles and Brandee story.

Love comes when we least expect from the person you least expected to see while your vision was blurry. Life takes us through tunnels of darkness only to discover the light that has always been standing in front of us.

Great read

I loved the honesty of the MMC, though it wasn't said he showed Characteristics of being Neurodivergent. Im happy that the FMC had a back bone and didn't bend so easily.
