“Because… because I’ll be saved, too—as long as I’m with you.”
Maybe what I’m about to say will sound completely normal to most manga and anime enthusiasts, but I’m kind of still gobsmacked over here. I consumed this story in the most perfect way possible. I read the manga in real time as each volume received its English translation. Then I read the first light novel. Then I watched the anime as it aired in Japanese with English subtitles. Then I read this while watching the English dub in tandem.
It helped me see the whole picture in a way that experiencing only one version never could. The manga tells a story, but it has so much to say and only so many panels to say it with. The anime adds scenes and character moments that don’t always have room to breathe on the page. The light novels provide the inner thoughts, emotional nuance and character growth that only prose can.
Each version fills in gaps left by the others.
This was stellar. This light novel. This whole damn thing. 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Yoshiki's soul was so pretty. I was overwhelmed by the urge to swallow is whole. But I didn't want him to die. I don't know if those are my thoughts... or Hikaru's feelings.
6 star read! Mio Nukaga you have done it yet again! The way she takes an already meaningful scene and makes it even MORE impactful never stops to amaze me! <3 This characters and world are truly rooted into my heart, this series is officially one of my favorite pieces of media ever! 🥹❤️ There’s nothing more I need to say, I have already expressed my amazement towards this series on my manga volume reviews, but I’m going to say one last thing! I sound like a broken record but, Yoshiki and “Hikaru” are genuinely soulmates, and this 2nd light novel proves it even more! I can not wait for volume 3 I need to know how Nukaga will describe my precious boys Yoshiki and “Hikaru” Mokumokuren you’re an absolute genius. <3 Also, reading this in summer break feels SO right since my favorite scenes are from volumes 5 and 6 which takes place in summer!!!
this was soooo good. i actually enjoyed it more than the first light novel! like the first light novel was probably a 4-star read for me, but this was genuinely a solid 5. i loved how the author played with perspective and prose to fully incorporate every detail from the manga/anime in a narrative format—and i love that it still made perfect sense and was easy to follow along with! reading through the intricacies of the world-building/plot in this narration actually helped clear up a few questions i still had regarding the main story (since it gets kind of convoluted pretty quickly), so that was really enjoyable for me. this was just a really fun experience and only elevated my love for the series. so glad i read it and will be looking forward to the third volume!
Tadinya saya mau menulis ulasan agak panjang soal volume kedua ini, tetapi setelah saya cek ulasan volume pertama... Ah, catatan-catatan saya masih sama sama saja.
Another amazing installment! As a lover of the manga, these novelizations have been such a blessing. I truly recommend reading both! Overall, this is just such a good series, and I am very excited for volume three!
I actually think this version of the story made me understand things I found a bit confusing in the original manga. I obviously love getting more insight into the characters thoughts. Also the covers are stunning.
Hikaru tried hard to be human while Yoshiki slowly turned into a monster. Yoshiki is just still not believing in the death of hikaru that led him to neglect the fact that hikaru is no longer hikaru :(
3.75 ⭐ This volume builds on the mystery of the village and Hikaru with some revelations and even more questions brought up. A well written volume that's a short, easy read.
