He burns for her—and the world will burn with him.
Katria Vale should have died with Winter.
Instead, she awakens beneath a merciless sun—alone, lost, and carrying the last whisper of the man she loved.
In the golden heart of the Summer Court, beauty is power, and truth is a weapon. Kael, the charming heir of sunlight and flame, rescues her from the desert only to deliver her into his mother’s glittering court of masks and lies. Here, warmth can kill as swiftly as cold ever could.
As the Veil between realms fractures, Katria’s forbidden connection to the Dreamstone deepens—and the fire she once feared begins to answer her call. Kael offers protection and something far more understanding. But shadows stir across the border of Winter, and the name Kaelith still lingers on her lips. When frost and flame finally meet, kingdoms will fall, loyalties will shatter, and love itself may become the spark that ends the world.
The Shattered Veil Saga continues in The Summer Prince—a sweeping tale of passion, betrayal, and the fragile line between salvation and destruction.
I just finished the ARC of The Summer Prince by Kassidy Carlisle, and once again, the author delivers a gripping and compelling read. Picking up after the previous book’s cliffhanger, the story dives right back into the tension and continues to surprise, constantly leaving you wondering what will happen next. The chemistry between the protagonists keeps building, making for a well-executed slow burn that’s hard to resist. The pacing is strong overall, although it does slow slightly around the three-quarter mark—stick with it, as the story quickly regains momentum. Be warned, though—this installment also ends on a cliffhanger, and it will definitely leave you eager for the next book.
This started very promising but I'm sorry to say i just don't click with this writing style. So bear in mind that this review is written with my feelings and preferences in mind and is in no way a objective review :).
I loved Kael better than Kaelith in book 1 as well, so I was happy to see more of him. But sad that there weren't more chapters of his POV.
This was already a big improvement compared to book 1 imho, but it was still.. not what I want or need in a romantasy. And I know that's a me-problem, but it does influence my rating of this unfortunately.
I didn't feel the attraction with Kaelith in book 1 and the fact that she struggles with her "feelings" for him vs Kael is sth I in my turn struggled with.
The descriptions of the different courts is also sth I struggled with. So one is cold and the other is warm (obvs), but other differences are.. non-existent? They both gossip, are honestly cruel towards mortals/Katria and okay they do it in a different way but.. that doesn't make them different enough imho.
3 stars for Kael being so patient with Katria because honestly I wouldn't have been.
"A Summer Prince": Book 2 was better paced than the first book "The Frostbound Heir," so there was some timeline improvement, but it still very much a very slow burn in more than romance, with some unnecessary repetition within the storyline, and still saving most of the real engagement towards the end. I would have preferred a more dynamic fleshed out story, even if you wanted to keep it a slow burn romance. I still enjoyed our heroine Katria. Her overall personality carried the story for me, and was what made it the most enjoyable and fun, even as she discovered a very unexpected new piece to her life. Her intelligence, fearlessness, and the dynamic she had with the other characters made the story come alive. As a whole the book is decent, but I feel like it had potential to be so much more, it didn't reach the heights it could have. Personally when there is a slow burn romance I'm expecting a lot of engagement in other areas along with moving the story forward in fact part of moving the story forward, be it humor, chaos, fighting, so much more. Which with two rival princes, a nut job of a mother, a new power, and a ton of yearning it practically writes itself. An endless slow burn everywhere throughout even if you are getting a lot of information only goes so far. Description is great, but you also need to be showing, expressing, not just telling and describing. I personally am looking for a lot of engagement, action, and feelings, but with tension and resistance between the characters building throughout the entire book. With yes, perhaps the last third to 30% holding the most action, engagement, and the final crescendo of the characters, but too much description can be distracting and stalling instead of just poetic. I still think this series will/has found its audience and they will be very happy.
Thank You to NetGalley, the Author, and the Publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion. All thoughts are my own. Thank you again for the opportunity.
The Summer Prince by Kassidy Carlisle pulled me straight into a lush fae world filled with heat, power, and just the right amount of danger. From the very first chapters, the story had that irresistible feeling of stepping into a magical court where nothing is ever quite what it seems.
What I loved most was the atmosphere. The Summer Court feels vibrant, seductive, and a little bit wild—like standing in the middle of a sun-drenched forest where beauty and danger live side by side. The author really captures that classic fae energy: charming on the surface but with sharp edges just beneath.
The characters were another highlight for me. The Summer Prince himself is exactly the kind of character I adore in fae romance—charismatic, powerful, and just mysterious enough to keep you constantly guessing about his true intentions. The chemistry between the main characters builds steadily throughout the story, creating a tension that kept me flipping pages late into the night.
I also enjoyed the mix of romance, court politics, and magical intrigue. There are moments of sweetness balanced with betrayal, secrets, and the ever-present sense that in fae courts, power always comes with a price.
Overall, this was a really fun and immersive fae romance. It has magic, intrigue, and a slow-building romance that makes the emotional moments feel earned. If you love stories set in fae courts with charismatic princes, dangerous alliances, and a touch of forbidden attraction, this is definitely one worth adding to your TBR.
Loved getting this as an ARC to follow on from the first so thank you so much for letting me read this
So this was for me much better than the first one due to the scene already being set and understanding the world a lot better.
We follow on directly from the first book and jump straight in… with Katria but now she is in the summer court after falling through the veil and Kaelith presumed dead at the end of book 1.
She is exploring the summer court and the bond between her and Kael starts to form and get more interesting along with the politics with the courts throughout and we get to learn more about her magic and trying to train.
The first part of the book is quite similar to the first as we are learning about a court and generally doing the same thing however each court has a different personality trait it seems.
The second part it started to fly off…… with the reintroduction of Kaelith who I gotta say has my heart in it, once he’s back it starts to fire up literally ….. and then starting to introduce the other courts while following the love triangle between the 3 of them.
If you like fae, with politics, a cold love interest and a fluffy warm one this is definitely for you, such a fun read.
Before anything, I’d like to thank BookSirens and the author for providing me with an ARC of this book. I actually went back and read Frostbound Heir first just a few days ago to make sure I could give this a fair and honest review.
Both books in the series started with a lot of promise, but by the end, I felt like I had more questions than answers. One thing I really liked about Summer Prince is that the world was already established from the previous book, so we didn't have to spend several chapters just building up the setting. Because of that, the pacing felt a bit faster this time around. It was interesting to see more of the dynamics within the Summer Court and the relationship between Kael and Katria. However, there were definitely moments where I considered stopping, mostly because the story felt a bit repetitive at times.
It’s an improvement on the first in terms of speed, but still a bit of a mixed bag for me.
I was so glad to receive this ARC of The Summer Prince after reading and reviewing Book 1 as an ARC.
This story starts off where Book 1 ended so I absolutely had to refresh myself on the ending to best appreciate the continuation.
I absolutely loved the court intrigue, stark contrasts that the Summer court displayed to that of the Winter court, but also the many similarities.
I did find however, that a lot of the story was extremely repetitive- to the point where I genuinely thought I had accidently gone backwards in the story by accident, multiple times. I feel that the book could’ve been a lot shorter and still hit all the great points, but without the repetition and some ‘fluff’.
I rounded this up from my personal 3.5 starts to 4 as I loved the writing, the storytelling and the continuation of this brilliant story! And that ENDING!!! I cannot wait to see what’s next.
After the Veil fractures, Katria is unexpectedly thrown in the Summer Court and must not only survive the heat but court politics, while something or someone lurks in the halls watching and waiting. The Summer Prince is an intriguing, very slow burn romance, filled with yearning and tension between two brothers who become rivals. The entire book is poetically descriptive - which is beautiful at times but also somewhat distracting. The beginning seemed to move along at a steady pace, but then it felt like the plot stalled with not much happening again until the end. Overall, the premise of the book is interesting but I would have preferred a bit more action and a little less description.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
As good as always!! The writing is very poignant, with each sentence snappy as the next. The romance is CRAZY!!!!! I slightly wish there were fewer spicy references, and sometimes, I wish there were more of a longer sentence rant, not just a sentence. I know it's supposed to be punchy, but I'm mostly getting the generic romantasy vibes from this.
This is a good continuation from book 1 though I did have to go back and reread the end to remember exactly how it left off. Has a great story that has continued to this book although I felt like I was messing up my pages as there are parts that repeat themselves pretty consistently which could've shortened the book but still kept us hooked with the plot.
THE SUMMER PRINCE BY KASSIDY CARLISLE The Shattered Veil Saga Book 2. 4 ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨s. Again the cover is stunning of this book 🔥 This is now my second book by this author and I enjoyed this book very much. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this author writes ☺
While it was beautifully written, poetic in parts, I found it a bit too slow and the two princes to be overbearing and a bit insufferable in this. Like guys, sort it out and get over yourselves a bit please. 🥲
Again, the book started some promise. I had hoped it would be less repetative and raising more questions than answers. Alas, I was wrong.
At multiple points, I wanted to DNF. But I powered through it.
And then came the love triangle. Personally, I detest love triangles. And either through death or choosing herself, this is going to turn into a why-choose and I hate those more.
I really tried, but this book is not for me. And I'm not sure what audience it *is* for.
The book was a continuation from the first book. Detailing more powers and multiple relationships. It seemed a bit repetitive albeit repetitive at times causing a slower read than normal
arc review: it was very interesting seeing kael & katria’s dynamic through out the first half of the book, along with the summer courts customs & politics. kaelith reappears in the second half of the book so it was also interesting to see him be thrown into the bond forming with kael & katria. this book felt a little repetitive towards the end but still was a good continuation of the first book!
“Everything about him radiated control wrapped in mischief—light turned human.” I’ll take two please lol but seriously who could resist Prince Kael?! The only thing wrong with him is that his mother is a complete nut job. I think we can all agree that the “reflections” are beyond creepy and all mirror like objects should be shattered immediately. “But pain means you’re still alive. It means there’s still something left to feel.” -this quote is so true and gave me unexpected comfort. The emotional turmoil that poor Katria has to undergo is just plain awful, like Ms.Author can we please let her catch her breath for a second?? I need book 3 immediately and desperately want to know what will happen in the Dream Realm!! The Summer Prince by Kassidy Carlisle is an immersive fae romance that will absolutely wreck your world in the best way possible!
