The war of the gods reaches its catastrophic peak as Pigeon’s rebellion ignites and the oppressed rise to strike down the divine tyrants who’ve fed on their lifeblood for generations. From the ashes of Harlos, only a single scorched hope remains. In the aftermath, Soluna is left to reckon with the brutal cost of her choices. Old wounds split open, fragile alliances collapse, and survival in the new world proves more dangerous than the war that forged it.

For years, I have absolutely loved Remender's weighty dissection of hope, courage, and sacrifice. These are terms that can be so brazenly thrown around with lighthearted fare—cute and obvious, as though inevitable. People offer up "You gotta do what ya gotta do" or "Keep on truckin'" vibes when each of those three things could make a person insane. Hope can be a poison, courage can be a downfall, and sacrifice can ruin a world. These are not easy summits; they are blood and madness and wreckage. But they are important. They are sometimes the only way forward. There is simply a toll that must be paid in some ventures toward the other side of battle, to live a decent life in the land of victory.
This volume kicks off in full glory, prophet of vengeance vs. smug and brutal god. I can't believe how much happens after here—and that it could sustain so much speed and strength. Give a heavy crown to a brute and its simply jewelry; give it to a weakling and it'll break its neck; give it to someone who came to claim it from nothing and nobody knows what could happen. It could be prosperity or pestilence; power is a magic that can't be understood until it's too late.
Wow, I had no idea this was the end. A sudden unexpected finale for me I still loved the journey this amazing series brought me on from start to finish. The artwork is incredible. You can frame any page from the book and hang it on a wall and stare in awe.
