Steve Brezenoff is the author of the young adult novels The Absolute Value of -1 and Brooklyn, Burning, and his third, Guy In Real Life, will be released in 2014. He has also written dozens of chapter books for younger readers. Though Steve grew up in a suburb on Long Island, he now lives with his wife and their son in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Hank and Gus want to investigate the legend that the Ravens Pass city hall was built over a cellar with a witch sealed inside it, and a school field trip seems like the perfect opportunity--but the witch may be waiting for them. They will try to escape Ms.Freckle’s ever watchful eye to sneak into the cellar and see the witch. Mayor Vertigger seems to know more than she is letting on..Could she know who the witch is or is she protecting the witch?
“Witch Mayor” is a part of the “Ravens Pass” series. I would consider each book in the series a stand alone that’s obviously related due to the town the stories take place in.
“Witch Mayor” is a spooky and thrilling story that’s appropriate for children aged 8 on up, and adults alike. The 2 main characters Gus and Hank are determined to find the Witch that lives in the cellar of the Ravens Pass City Hall. These two scheming boys concoct a scheme to discover the truth. They are smart and precocious boys who are not strangers to mischief and the trouble it brings them.
The author Steve Brezenoff wrote a short tale (86 pages) that packs a spooky punch. The story itself is well thought out and fast paced. The illustrations are not only well done they are age appropriate and represent the story well. I personally adore this series. I love how the author takes scary tales and makes them “scary-lite”. I picture reading these books aloud at a sleepover or while at a sleep away camp. They invoke that type of feeling in you.
The “Ravens Pass” series is only 4 books long, but I am hoping the author will add to the collection in the future. Maybe even create a teenaged/YA version. Anyone who loved the Goosebumps series will enjoy this one too.
this book was intresting and scary !!! Students haded a field trip in the school´s basement . They haven´t opened the basement since a long time . A boy went to the restroom down in the basement and then he saw a statue of a person. Someone just camed and that person looked exacted same as the person in the statue it was the mayor then he just left.
