Midlife Magic Cocktail Club #4

Psychic on the Rocks

Rate this book
Rebecca Angelos has always liked animals more than people. The abandoned pets who pass through Cloverleaf Critters animal shelter understand her better even than her friends at her Friday night cocktail club. Elvis the pug never judges as he helps her swipe through dating profiles on a Saturday night, and Paul Rudd the doberman has the sweetest heart despite all he’s been through.

But when her landlord threatens to sell the building, Rebecca has just weeks to save the shelter, or watch every animal lose their home again. It seems her gift from Inga arrives just in time, until she discovers exactly what it is – the ability to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Privy to even the most critical thoughts, Rebecca feels like she’s been cursed. Until she starts to learn something she doesn’t expect. Even the most confident, put-together people battle the same inner demons. As a charming woodworker enters her life – along with two cats called AC and DC – Rebecca discovers that saving the shelter means first learning to silence her own cruel inner voice.

A heartwarming witchy tale about self-acceptance, the healing power of animals and discovering your inner strength. Perfect for fans of K.F. Breene, Sangu Mandanna and Iris Beaglehole.

I generally do not read romances, but this had a lot of comedy in it as well. I generally stick with paranormal, mystery, fantasy, and sci-fi. I did not read the first 3 books in this series just this one. This can actually stand alone.
Rebecca Angelos prefers the company of animals to people especially since she has always had a hard time with people except her 3 friends which she meets regularly to destress with fun. Rebecca runs an animal shelter and really loves her job. Unfortunately, the owner does not care and wants to sell the property. Rebecca meets up with Peter at the library who would like her to help his sister with her dog. Peter takes an interest in Rebecca and she learns he is basically himself and unfortunately at this time her gift has come, and she can read peoples minds. So, Rebecca has to see if she can keep the shelter, try to not read minds, and see if the relationship with Peter will work out.

Psychic on the Rocks is the Fourth and Final Book in the wonderful Midlife Magic Cocktail series by Annabel Chase.

I have loved every book in this series and this book was no exception .

Rebecca Angelos is a wonderfully written character. I could totally relate to her because she likes spending time with animals more than humans. Rebecca is 46 and comes into magical powers by way of her deceased friend Inga. The more she learns to accept her telepathy, the more she starts to discover her true self.

This was the perfect conclusion to such a fantastic paranormal womens fiction series.

Highly recommend!

Great finish to the four part series

I really enjoyed the entire series. Each book was done very well and utilized the four main characters voices, one for each book, in a unique well written format.

I think the first and last books are the best. The middle two weren’t bad, but I enjoyed the storylines from the other characters more. This was a unique concept, where witches aren’t born or created, but powers are passed on as an inheritable asset from one person to another.

This final book, giving someone telepathic abilities and showing the good and bad that could come from it was well thought out. That she not only expanded her own horizons but got her friends to do so as well. Trampolining and paintball excursions as a way to enjoy life again, not caring who sees it, was a great message. More of us in the world could use that same message. She also showed how often each of us put our own negative spin on our lives and we shouldn’t.

I hope that more books in the series are written. A prequel to the ladies getting their abilities would be interesting. There could be quite a bit of content from others in this world inheriting their new witchy assets, as well.

Ms Chase is a well rounded author and I have enjoyed many of the various series she’s written, and look forward to more of each of them.

Extraordinarily spectacular midlife which is women’s fiction series

As with books number 1,2 and three, the fourth book and sadly final book in the series is once again a grand slam home run of a book. An extraordinarily spectacular cast of characters with an extraordinary spectacular storyline. Rebecca the final member of the cocktail club finally gets her power. As with the other three women in her group that inherited there which powers from their dear friend. Rebecca is the last to receive hers. Read on to find out how why and what she does with her powers. I cannot give any details without spoiling the book.
The one thing I can tell you is that you will fall in love with all these characters and their stories and love the stories told about them. Unfortunately after you finish this book you will have to realize it is the last book in the series. Unless by chance the author brings out a standalone story about this group of women again in the future. We can all keep our fingers crossed and at least help. This is one spectacular group of women with spectacular stories and hopefully many more adventures to come. Every book this author writes is extraordinarily entertaining and spectacular as far as I’m concerned. Check them all out if you get a chance.

This was a very good book and the last of this 4 book series. I

Amazon synopsis:
Rebecca Angelos prefers the company of animals to people, which is why she spends the majority of her time at her job at the animal shelter. Animals are simple—they appreciate her and don’t see her through the critical lens that she sees herself. Rebecca blames her own inadequacies for her failed relationships and the 46-year-old has no interest in putting herself through the emotional wringer anymore.

When she rescues a dog from a dangerous situation, a magical recipe appears in the empty book left to her by her dearly departed friend, Inga. The cocktail triggers telepathy as well as anxiety—Rebecca’s worst nightmare is hearing what other people really think about her.

At first, she resists her newfound ability, but the more thoughts Rebecca overhears, the more she realizes that her own mirror is distorted and in desperate need of adjustment. What begins as Rebecca’s greatest fear eventually becomes her saving grace.

This is the kind of book I needed right now!

This has been one of my favorite series-- so packed with truths and insight. Rebecca Angelos, after watching her friend's life-changing adventures gets her turn and gets the gift of telepathy. The story follows her using her gift to find love, happiness and real estate when the owner of the building her animal shelter is housed in decides he wants to sell.

Full of wisdom, 80's hair bands and Gen X angst-- this book was filled with gems from my childhood and actual conversations I have had with my children. (Please Note: I have never met Ms. Chase, but she needs to get out of my brain)

A charming story to conclude the series. I loved the character of Rebecca. She's a selfless woman who has low self-esteem but would do anything for her friends or the animals she loves - even one's she's just met. When she gets her "powers" it turns out she's telepathic. Initially overwhelmed, she eventually learns how to tune out thoughts but finds it has it's uses on occasion. She works in an animal shelter and loves what she does, but the owner shows up and tells her he's selling the property in 6 weeks. What will happen to the shelter and the animals? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Thank you, it's nice to be visible

I've been reading & enjoying books by Ms Chase and others over the past few years. In thankful some have decided to branch off into "mid-life" themed series, removing to a degree that cloak of invisibility that envelopes us once we reach a certain age.
I appreciate a series with a focus on women "of a certain age, " including our insecurities, biological, emotional & life changes, as well as acknowledgement of society's dismissiveness of us. I especially appreciate the promotion of self acceptance, and reinforcement of the fact we are still valid, important - and have senses of humor.

Fun books

I like this whole series. We women are so hard on ourselves, so critical. It is something the Universe has decided to change, I believe. Watching these women come into their gifts and appreciate them has been a pleasure. I see it happening all over the world aswomen stand up and demand to be treated as equals. How we internalized all the "rules" about how we must look and act until as adults, we nag and berate ourselves, I will never understand. At 78 I find mysef frustrated because I cannot do the things I once did. This book has come into my life at just the right time. Funny how an enjoyable novel can also teach something.

One of my favorite series!

This series just captured my heart and my interest from the beginning. The other women who inherited Magic from their late mutual friend have each received their particular talent, after mixing and drinking their own cocktail made from a recipe which appears in a previously empty journal.
Finally, it’s Rebecca’s turn! And just in time, as this humble woman is about to face the battle of her life to keep the much needed pet shelter she runs from becoming a victim of gentrification.

Fabulous Series!!!

First, apologies for not reviewing each book. I thought to read the whole series and I just finished book four Psychic on the Rocks. This is a FANTASTIC series!! So well written and fun. All the characters are loveable and the story lines rock. I suppose it's too much to as for a book five? These characters have become very dear to me and I'd love to read more of their adventures. Couldn't put any of them down and now I'll just have to re-read from book one :)

Terrific series!

I absolutely loved this series! The characters are well rounded and relatable flawed, and I felt each deeply in one way or another. The lake setting sounds divine and I have built images in my mind of each house and vista throughout all four books. Such enjoyable reading in many, many ways. I kind of wish I had friends like Libbie, Kate, Julie, and Rebecca. The tequila would be a bonus!

Inga’s Final Gift

IInga, a powerful witch, met four friends for cocktails regularly. When she died, she left each a magical gift. This is the final book in the series. (It can be read without having read the others.) Rebecca loves, understands, and cares for animals at a shelter she manages, on land she leases. Her gift from Inga, telepathy, develops and she learns to use it. Great characters, plot. Only bad part? The series ending.

Cocktails, animals, and Bon Jovi what's not to like?

Annabel always delivers the magic of a good story. Rebecca finds her new talent and is hit by a massive challenge when the animal shelter she runs is put up for sale and she has just a few weeks to rehouse her animals. All ends happily except for this reader who wanted more in the same series, my slim hope is Peaches receives a gift too!

A FANTASTIC conclusion to the series!

Four friends, each gifted with a bit of magic best suited to their needs and personality. Rebecca is the last of the foursome to have her gift manifest, but like the others, she receives it when she's ready to accept it. Rebecca's journey is another well-developed story that completes the series. I'm sad it's finished, but SO glad I got to read it!

Great ending to a great series

The last sentence in this book says it best:

“Life was like a cart of cocktails—sometimes neat, sometimes stirred or shaken, or on the rocks. And in the case of Rebecca and her magical friends… With a twist.”

Each book shows the journey of a different friend to acceptance of the wonderful woman each has grown into. Reading each book was a reminder that it is the journey that makes each of us who we are.

Absolutely loved!

I think this is my favorite book in the series. Rebecca is so hard on herself, so giving to others, and such a hard worker. When she receives her gift from Inga, everything is in chaos. How she goes about her day-to-day, her relationships, and trying to save her shelter is wonderful. I love that her dating life isn't key to the story on any way, it is an enhancement of her personal journey, but not a big part. 10/10 will read again.

Another great Series from a favorite Author and I wouldn't expect anything different.I was glued to my IPad from the first Book, until this last one. Each Book was just better than the one before it.All the characters and storylines were so real.I wouldn't mind a Book that takes into the future to give us a glimpse of the four friends a few years down the road.Just can't get enough...

Midlife lessons

Psychic on the Rocks is book 4 of Anabel Chase's midlife witch series. As one of for recipients of a friend's magic, Rebecca is the last of the group to get her gift. As enjoyable as the series is with the group of friends, each woman's introspective journey is as enjoyable to see. This one was one of my favorites, perhaps because I recognize myself in Rebecca. The series is definitely worth picking up, especially for main characters in my demographic.

Keeping the pets… hm… best for last

I love that the conclusion of the series involved pets and a pet shelter, on top of characters that I’ve grown to love over the first three books. Rebecca’s story was no different: uplifting, full of hope and love and friends.

And a reminder of how important and great we all are, with our talents and, yes, with our faults, too!

Thank you for this series full of hope, Annabel Chase!

Rebecca is the friend who lacks confidence in her abilities, not just as a witch but as a friend. As the story is spun the reader gets to cheer for her growing ability and confidence. A wonderful 4th installment in this series. I love how Inga, our long deceased witch is still revered in the last installment Oh and reading this book makes me wonder if I shouldn't grab my girlfriends and go have some childlike fun.

The final installment of the Midlife Magic Cocktail Club series focused on Rebecca’s story. Psychic on the Rocks was closest to my heart, as Rebecca works as the director at the local animal shelter that is at risk of closing due to the sale of the property. Her recipe involves the best gift yet.

This entire series was easy to read, full of interesting and likable characters. This series is very different from Chase’s others, and I enjoyed it equally as much.

The last of the four to receive her gift Rebeccas is a bit fearful of what it will be and when she will receive it but that is to be expected. She has lived under her mother's domineering and mean shadow for most of her life. When she finally dies Rebecca seems to be at a loss with what to do with herself and to me seemed a bit of a "wuss". But stick around cuz Rebecca is about suprise you and herself!!

What a treat

For the last Book in the series to be as great as the set-up first! I really enjoyed this midlife series as someone who fits the age group but I think anyone who has ever really wanted to be something other than herself/himself would get this series. Well worth the read but do start at book one. I’ve yet to be sorry that I have read an Annabel Chase series so I say, Go For It!

The final book in the series felt a bit repetitive at times, and the novelty of the plot definitely started to wear off by this point. Still, it was satisfying to see the story finally come to a conclusion and watch everything come together. Even though parts of it felt more stale compared to the earlier books, it still managed to deliver a few genuinely memorable moments and quotes that stay with you afterwards

Heartwarming Wonderful Story

This book gives us the story of the final one of the four friends to get her gift. Whilst she struggles with her gift at first Rebecca uses it to resolve a lot of the issues in her life in a manner that makes you laugh and cry along with her. Absolutely loved this book and can't recommend this and the whole series enough.

Wonder! So inspiring!

Everyone should have friends like these ladies! It is such a wonderful experience to have well written stories about women of a certain age finding themselves and owning their strengths and weaknesses.

I love each and every story and highly recommend these books.

One of my favorites

This series really connected for me. Thank you Annabel for writing characters I could relate to at this time of my life. The books were witty, poignant and real with a touch of the supernatural we all wished we had. And as a huge pet lover this last one in the series was my favorite.

Very Good

Rebecca receives her power which was gifted from her friend Inga. She is also trying to find a new place or be able to buy the current place of the animal shelter she runs after the owner of the building tells her he is selling it. There is also a very small bit of romance. Love the friendships in this series.

Great way to end the series!

I really enjoyed this series and the final installment is the cherry on top. I could relate to this one the most and it certainly squeezed my heart the most. Of all the "gifts", being able to hear what other people are thinking would be hard for anyone. Definitely worth the read.
