Spectacularly awesome paranormal fiction Story. A definite must read.
A spectacularly awesome paranormal women’s fiction story. This is book 3 of four. A great cast of characters and an extra ordinarily entertaining Series. Julie is 1 of 4 women who recently lost a member of their weekly cocktail club who left them a surprise in her will. Come to find out their friend Inga was a witch and passed on her gift to her for friends. Julie is the third in the group to realize her gift. Read on and see how her life will change and what happens. Each book well part of the entire story is a story within itself. Each character is like your best friend and draws you in and it is like you are in the story along with them. While the series is supposed to be four books telling each of the four characters story of acquiring their gift and the change in their life. I hope at some point Annabel Chase will write a standalone book on occasion of these four characters. It is just an extraordinary literary world to read about. Warning could be a tearjerker moment or two involved. Read on and be entertained and enjoy.
Vintage Spirits is a great paranormal women’s fiction story. This is book 3 of 4 in a wonderful series. This is Julie's story. Julie , like her other friends in her cocktail club came into her powers after losing a member of their group.
I really enjoyed Julie's story, I think the best so far. This is a well written story about real women over 40 dealing with all the things that we have to deal with at that age. This story gave me all the feels as they say. This can be read as a stand alone book, but I definitely recommend reading the first two books to get a better reading experience. Can't wait for the final book in this fantastic series.
I'm not one to go over the storyline you can read the synopsis to find out what the book is about. Annabel Chase has a way with words that spins a story so that it keeps you enthralled. I read this book in one sitting it is that good. I haven't done that in a while! Just remember to keep tissues standing by because there will be tears if not you may not have any feelings! Totally loved this book and I can't wait for the next one even though it is said to be the last Highly recommend!
This was an emotional hard book for me. I love Annabel Chase, but this story wore me out. Good series though, wish there was more laughter, but life is sometimes serious.
This series just gets better and better. Great story and wonderful characters.
Amazon synopsis: Julie Duncan never expected to be a fifty-year-old widow living with her domineering mother in the same lakeside house she grew up in. Winters in Lake Cloverleaf are a gloomy time for Julie. Christmas and New Year’s remind her of her late husband and she doesn’t want to face yet another holiday season without him.
The unexpected death of her mother only adds to Julie’s grief, until a magical cocktail recipe triggers psychic visions of ghosts.
The new year kicks off a new normal for Julie, except she has neither the time nor the energy for unwelcome spirits. She already has an unwelcome visitor in the land of the living—her estranged brother who’s arrived in town to take control of the estate. Brad hasn’t been in their lives for years, yet he expects to displace Julie and sell the family home, knowing perfectly well that Julie is unlikely to put up a fight—until the ghost of her dead husband shows up to intervene.
Greg was Julie’s rock during their marriage, and Julie is intent on having him continue in the role despite his anchorless existence. To save her sanity and clear the path for her bright new future, she resolves to help the spirits find the peace they seek--a peace that will continue to elude her unless she learns to stand up for herself.
In learning to use her voice on behalf of the dead, Julie just might learn to use it for herself.
When Doris dies on New Year's Eve Julie is blindsided by the emptiness of her life. She's spent so long looking after her mother, and her husband up until his death two and a half years ago she's never put herself first.
When her journal produces a cocktail recipe she's excited to see what it brings but not all surprises are good ones.. and her sudden ability to see ghosts has her thinking she's having a breakdown. When her brother, Brad, turns up after the service to try and force her to sell the family home and give him the money against her mother's wishes it's her dead husband, Greg, who appears to help her.
Once she has a plan in place she only has to tackle Brad who's apparently prepared to burn the house down with Julie still in it but help comes from an unlikely source when Doris makes a reappearance and puts him out of action. Julie will finally get to hear the words she's longed for from both Greg and Doris so she can take her first steps as an independent woman ready to enjoy the rest of her time.
Over explaining is a theme throughout Chase's books and this is no exception. We switch from Julie to an observer too often.
a cute story, a touch maudlin but with a ghost whisperer, you’d expect that
This was a very somber story, but uplifting as well. It’s amazing the various things we do when alive that we’d change after we pass. Of course hindsight and all that is a good explanation.
I really liked the bit with Rosie coming back to be there for her dog Mollie as she passed. All of the returned ghosts’ unfinished business was touching. That Doris even came back to protect her daughter from a crappy brother was a great storyline. Finding out that Doris even had been keeping him away from them for years was even better.
It wasn’t as fun as the first novel of the series, but it was fulfilling and had a very emotional quality that added to the entire series. That each of the new witches’ stories have been so unique for each person, I’m looking forward to the fourth entry and Rebecca’s new abilities and changes for her life. Hopefully we also find out just what Inga’s powers were like when she was alive, before passing on her assets. If not in the fourth book, maybe in a fifth as prequel.
It is now Julie’s turn to receive the extraordinary gift left by Inga, her dear departed witch friend. Of the three stories so far, I most enjoy Julie’s because it contains more paranormal elements than Kate’s or Libbie’s.
Her story is different in that her life does not spiral downhill after she drinks the first cocktail recipe that appears in her book. Instead, she gains the ability to see ghosts and becomes a magnet for spirits with unfinished business. She becomes, in effect, a ghost whisperer.
I am excited to discover what gift awaits the final member of the Cocktail Club. I hope Rebecca receives the ability to speak or understand the animals, given how much she loves them; if not, then something equally extraordinary. 🤞
A slightly longer review will be available on my site as soon as I finish reading the series. 😉
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with this writer's works. This series for the most part though I've enjoyed. Probably because it has more mature characters. This one though was so well written, it's probably my favorite. this book made me bawl like a baby. The thought of being a widow is like my worst nightmare. Yet the way the subject was handled was so good. Julie was relatable and I was glad to see her character growth. Even if in the beginning your annoyed with her lack of spine. Hang in there she definitely grows one. The themes of death, grief were so well done.
First off, while it's not completely needed, I'd recommend the previous two books so you understand what's going on as a whole. This one hits the feels. HARD. Ya'll, I sobbed twice. I've went through some of the issues and it was very well written and beautifully done. Ms. Chase hits all the right notes in this symphony of a Midlife woman discovering herself and her newly awakened gifts as a witch. With a fab support group (the previous books) our heroine discovers more about herself than she knew. I absolutely can not wait till book 4.
Wow. Everyone grieves differently, especially because relationships are so vastly different. This story... learning to grieve, confronting both her past and her present, Julie is a remarkable woman. I love the friendships and the journey each of the friends have gone on so far. I'm so excited for the next and final segment, but not so excited for the ending. These characters are vibrant and so real. I felt like I was in the room, a fly on the wall. Love!
I'm not sure what % I stopped at since it was the box set, but I DNF'd this early on.
I didn't really like how they resolved their problems in books 1 and 2, and this one took the cake. It's seen in the previous books and also right away in this one that the heroine's main problem is her nasty, spiteful mother. How was this resolved? She just waited around and the problem took care of itself early in the book. She never grew a spine and stood up for herself, or resolved the issues with her mother.
Dealing with death is never easy, and Julie Duncan showed,it perfectly in this deeply moving book, her story. Her mum’s passing, and her brother’s return, as well as her husband’s, it touched a part of me that has always feared forgetting the ones I loved who are now gone, wishing for a last chance to say goodbye to them, everything.
Even though she loses her husband, and finally her mean spirited mother, Julie still has such a major upheaval in her daily life. Suddenly she's seeing ghosts, and having them actively homing in on her is just part of her problems. I loved her Cocktail club meetings with her friends, and the witchy things that they have in common. Lots of quirky things happen, and all ending with a great, happily ever after.
Julie has finally gotten her powers: she can see ghosts. Ghosts who have unfinished business before they can cross over. As she helps each ghost, she learns more about herself, growing into the person she was meant to be. Special guest appearance by Greg, Julie’s late husband. Be sure and have Kleenex handy for the end: you’ll need them! Another must read from Annabel Chase.
Well..this one was a tad different then the others specifically Julis's gift. At first she seemed to be able to help those who needed it (after she accepted her new gift) but then it becomes a bit more complicated with arrival of a brother who just wants the house and her dead husband who Julie still needs to get over not having him in her life. Actually she would rather have him even in ghostly form rather then getting over his death and moving on.
This whole series has been pretty lighthearted, nothing super serious, but is really good at poking at things that tend to happen as we get older. With this MC being a widow, you expect to see some grieving over her late husband, but the story is really about the process of moving through grief and into the next phase of life. The end is bittersweet, and I definitely didn’t expect to get choked up over if, but here we are anyway! 🥲
The weakest of the three books so far, but still a meaningful and enjoyable read. While it didn’t have the same impact as the previous parts, the message about appreciating what you have while you still have it comes through strongly and feels very true. It’s the kind of story that makes you reflect on your own life, the choices you make, and how easily people take things for granted. Even with its weaker moments, it still leaves you thinking long after finishing it.
I was so impressed with this book. I enjoyed Libbie and Kate's story but reading Julie's story just touched me in so many ways. There were aspects of her story that I could relate to and so I was rooting so much for Julie. This story did not disappoint in any way!
Poor Julie has a lot on her plate. She finally gets her magical cocktail which allows her to see ghosts and she ends up being visited by her dead husband. But what’s his unfinished business or is it her unfinished business?
This book deals with grief, family drama and ghosts. A good quick read. Very relatable with the grief part.
It’s Julie’s turn to find her magic gift, and it’s quite beautiful. I love how as each friend receives their witchy power they find a chance for personal growth as well. I cannot really describe the friendships, the magic, the way each steps up to her possibilities. But they are lovely books, and well worth reading.
This series is an easy read with charming characters that are dealing with their newfound gifts of “witchery.” This book deals with the unfinished business when someone dies, especially when that someone was the love of your life. Many tear-jerking moments. Grab the tissues.
I have been enjoying this series and look forward to the next book in the series. It's Julie's turn to experience her witches gift. Her Mom dies, her dead husband is back, and her brother is there to claim his, really her inheritance. What could possibly go wrong or right?
Good read but did not go into depth. Wondered if this was an out-line
Story good but it didn't close all the questions. There was so much more that could have been dug into: the nasty brother, the B &B,and the doctor. We were just left hanging. I hope these things are covered in the next book.
Another well written book by Annabel Chase. The third book finds Julie's inherited magic allows her to see ghosts. With all the funny and sweet ear marks of the first two books, y'all, this one also had me bawling my eyes out. I am so glad I found this series with female characters that are so relatable. I'm off to download book four.
I loved this one so far the most. When Greg came back and they were talking about her weight gain and looked at her boobs and put his hands out as though to cup them. I totally lost it. I shared it with my husband and he cracked up I just had to laugh with him. Because that's what he would do.
Another case of good story, tough read. While I love that she chose to write about real life issues in these books it also makes them that much harder to read. I kept wanting to scream at Julie, her attitude and way of dealing with things made me so mad at her, but also for her. I really hope this helps someone find a little bit of courage
Julie, took care of her Mum, a very demanding woman. even when she was heartbroken from the loss of her husband. Nothing was ever good enough, Doris always criticised and berated her. This is a great story, and I admit to shedding a tear. Can't wait for the last in the series, going by track record it will be a doozer .
The third installment of the Midlife Magic Cocktail Club series was a bit less of an enjoyable read than the prior two. Vintage Spirits focused on Julie’s story. I did think she was even more of a doormat than Libbie when it came to standing up to her overbearing mother and brother, but I liked the paranormal direction of her story.
