I whispered it to the moon, to the chains, to myself—until I believed it.
They say Alpha King Maximus is a monster — too big, too brutal, too cursed. His bed is a death sentence, and no woman has ever left it alive. So why did he choose me?
The fat, unwanted omega. The one my own pack offered up like trash. One night with the merciless King was supposed to end me. Instead, it ruined me. Now I crave the man who takes without mercy. His touch burns. His voice commands. His body destroys. And I keep going back for more. But Maximus doesn't do love. He doesn't do mates. He takes. He owns. And he never stays.
"Before my beast consumes me completely—I need a son to take the throne."
Too bad for him…I'm not the weak, pathetic girl they threw away. I'm something far more dangerous —the one woman who can break his curse… or break his kingdom.
The book begins with Alpha King Maximus and Emilia. Emilia is the daughter of an alpha, sent as an offering to the Alpha King, but it’s more like sacrificed by her family to the Alpha Kings curse, because the kingdom knows that one night with the king ends in a woman’s death.
But Emilia isn’t about to let anyone kill her. We take this journey with them as it seems Emilia is more than meets the eye and may be just what the Alpha Kings needs to soothe his savage beast.
Through this journey we meet several other characters as the book comes in two parts. First, Emilia and Maximus’ story, and then the second half we journey through Maximus’ brother’s story and his Beta Lucien. Emilia and Maximus then become our supporting characters and the book start to finish has been done so well. The characters contain so much depth and emotion that they are universal in their insecurities and fears. The pacing is very well done. I really enjoyed reading this novel.
Night Owl is the author’s name in the Kifflire app. It is another pay per chapter app.
You will need to buy 4 books to complete this 'book' costing over £14. Not good value as far as I'm concerned, especially considering less than half of book 4 saw the end of this story which then went on to other characters that I wasn't interested in and didn't read. I would have needed to buy 2 more books at over £7 to complete. This could so easily have been 1 book not 31/2. I also felt it was a little long winded and could have been shortened. Please also be aware that each book just stops at the end of a chapter and picks up with the next chapter in the next book. Is it worth reading? The story itself is pretty good and I did want to find out how things ended. Quite a bit of detailed sex described which I can take or leave as it's all same old same old in these type of books. I was satisfied with the story and would have been happy to pay about £5 thus recommend to others. However, paying nearly £15, I'll leave the decision to you.
I used to enjoy reading a lot of fanfiction, so this type of writing just throws me back to it (kinda nostalgic for me).
However, I almost dropped it for the "dubious consent" thing. I know they are "mates" but either way I am not a fan of that writing. I skipped further along and appreciated the rest of the storyline. With the moon goddess, curses, revenge, ect.
The male lead made up for it later down the line (groveling and all that) and I was cool with that, but it still downgraded this book for me (personally). The last half of the book was much better, in my opinion.
Also, I DID like how the person who was evil actually suffered. Usually the villain gets killed off with no true repercussions and it is vexing. Glad to see they had some come up pence. That bumped it up for me!

I honestly don’t know whether I liked this book or not. It sometimes has some really cool spots with intense interactions between the protagonists, other times it’s boring and repetitive, yet other times it’s it’s really interesting and the reader wants to know more, while in some scenes it’s somewhat offensive towards how the king treats others - particularly women. The worst part is that it’s a cliffhanger, so there’s no real ending and the reader is left wondering. So, I either drop it and feel like I left the story halfway, or do I read book 2 and perhaps keep disliking the story.
If anyone else has read this series, I’d love some advice.
Badly written, things just being repeated for the sake of making the book longer. And book 3 finishes mid action. Do not read this. It is not worth it.
I thought she was doing way too much especially considering her background and her opportunities. She was way too headstrong (or unhinged) when she should have been methodical.
