To my close friends and family I’m wild and crazy one-date Dane. To the world, I’m Dane Campbell, the bachelor with the genius level IQ whose name sits somewhere on the Top 100 Wealthiest People in the World list. Me? I’d like to think of myself as fluid, in both my lifestyle and sexuality.
Which is why I spend my time backpacking through different countries exploring the world. The best meeting strangers, traveling together for a few days, then going our separate ways. This affords me the minimalist lifestyle I desire with the anonymity I need.
But lately, something in me has shifted. So, when I’m offered a position as a Professor at Polytech University, my boredom of traveling and sudden need of stability said yes.
Meeting a new couple in Paris the last week before I head back home shouldn’t be any different. Except it is, and they are.
They make the loneliness go away, my fake smiles turn real, and I feel something I haven’t felt in a long time.
This is the first time I don’t want to walk away.
Unfortunately, karma has other plans.
The Lessons We Learn is an MMF contemporary romance with a bi-sexual awakening and lots of open door spice. It is intended for 18+ readers only. Written in 1st person with multiple POV’s.
Berlin was raised in a tiny town in North Idaho who moved to the Bay Area, California, at the age of eighteen. She now resides in San Diego with her husband, two boys and her massive Cane Corso named Blu! Her bucket list items include skydiving, attending the Oscars, becoming a New York Time best-selling author, and cruising the world for retirement. She loves writing and reading, ANY and ALL kinds of romance novels, and loves engaging in the booksta community. You can find her most active on Instagram!
Jesus Christ. Berlin Wick can absolutely do no wrong. This book wrecked me...suffocated me...in the best, most satisfying way.
Berlin Wick took a character I was already intrigued by and cracked him wide open. Dane Campbell’s story is rich, emotional, and unexpectedly tender. What starts as a tale about a man who thrives on movement and anonymity slowly becomes something much deeper...a story about choosing connection, staying when it’s easier to run, and redefining what love can look like when you stop limiting yourself.
The MMF relationship feels organic and earned. Dane, Ethan, and Hannah don’t just fall into bed together; they fall into comfort, stability, happiness, and love with each other. Thier bond is distinct, layered, and necessary. Dane’s openness and emotional fluidity make him the perfect center of this triad. His patience and caring love made Ethan feel safe. I loved their relationship.
Ethan’s journey is raw and powerful. Watching him confront grief, expectation, and his own identity was heartbreaking and hopeful all at once. His growth feels real, slow, and deeply human. Hannah...she's quiet, observant, and strong. She anchors this story with so much grace. The way her nonverbal communication is handled is respectful, seamless, and beautiful. She is never sidelined or pitied; she is seen, desired, and essential. Their love does not work without her.
A big standout is how Dane's past is reframed. What once looked carefree is revealed to be shaped by loss and loneliness, and that emotional context adds so much weight to every choice he makes. It made his desire for stability hit so much harder.
The spice? Obviously, it delivers. It’s bold but it’s never empty. Every intimate moment pushes the story forward, deepens the relationships, and raises the emotional stakes. It’s hot because it means something.
This book made me laugh, ache, rage, and swoon. It’s about love without limits, found family without conditions, and learning that sometimes the biggest lessons come from the people you never planned to love.
If you have read Berlin Wick from the beginning, you can tell that she is pushing herself out of her comfort zone as an author. I feel like I'm right there with her. As she discovers herself as a writer, I'm discovering myself as a reader.
As usual, thank you, Berlin, for the ARC read. You are freaking amazing.
Obsessed doesn’t do this book justice! You know a book is going to be good when you’re not even 50% of the way through it and you’re already trying to figure out when you can read it next! I love Dane, Ethan, and Hannah so much. The way they have this incredible chemistry you could feel from the start. I could have you’d a whole lot more of them!
This book was hawt from start to finish. Ethan, Hannah, and Dane completely owned my brain and I am not even mad about it. The chemistry between all three of them? Explosive. Add in that bi-curious tension and it just cranked everything up another level.
And that Eiffel Tower scene… whew. I needed a moment. 🔥
What I loved most is that it wasn’t just spice for shock value. The plot actually worked. The emotional pull, the dynamic between them, the way their connection unfolded, it all made sense. It felt intentional, messy in the best way, and addictive.
The heat? Off. The. Charts. 5 chillies for all the 🍆💦 in 👖 The glory hole scene? Absolutely feral. I loved every second of it.
This trio is going to live rent-free in my head for a while.
Wow, The Lessons We Learn is absolutely incredible! I couldn't get enough of these characters and their story.
Dane has been a character that I have been so intrigued by in this series, and to have his full, unfiltered story brought me to tears. He's so raw and genuine, his sense of adventure and whimsy has a depth to it that that made his personality all the more captivating! Those who seem to be the most easy going always have something going on underneath.
Hannah, this woman! Her strength, resilience, and pure joy for life had me obsessed with her from the beginning. I think Berlin does a beautiful job of writing someone who is nonverbal. People are so much more than just their voice, and she is a character who is so expressive. Her ability to create connection is incredible! These two men would not fit the same without her.
And Ethan. Ugh this man I swear, his character development was everything for me. He's so serious at first, tentative, and somewhat shy. He's finding himself, amidst a family dynamic that is anything but supportive. Healing from a traumatic experience he and Hannah both share that brought them closer together. The way his entire personality begins to bloom after meeting Dane just... feels right. These three fit together perfectly.
The chemistry between them is explosive, seductive, and extremely endearing. They all experience insecurity and doubt in their own way, and it's amazing to see them over come it! As always, the spice delivers! There's this intimacy that leaps off the page with these three!
I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
This is an ARC review I am leaving voluntarily and all thoughts are my own.
Okay so this is my second book by Berlin Wick and definitely not my last! It was amazing! Witty and carefree in some places, but these characters have an ingrained understanding of each other and what they need.
Dane, rich and carefree, visits Paris before starting a new job and meets Hannah and Ethan who are staying in the same hostel and they hit it off, until Ethan overhears a conversation and he and Hannah leave without a word.
Ethan, bi-curious but unsure how to share that side of himself due to stigma from his father and an upbringing that is honestly quite toxic.
Hannah... a fucking ray of sunshine ❤️ She is so sweet, supportive and steady. She is Ethan's rock while he tries to figure everything out. I'll also admit, Hannah's presentation had me shedding tears!
These characters stole my heart because they had their moments of lightheartedness and jokes, but they carried each other through all of the ups and downs... The absolute heartbreak and the repercussions of other peoples actions. Their strength in their relationship and what they needed is truly inspiring, and that PLOT TWIST had me SCREECHING out loud!
This was a solid read that ultimately didn’t leave much of an impression on me. The bi-awakening arc felt realistic with believable chemistry between the characters and minimal jealousy. There were also a few standout spicy moments that were well done.
However, I struggled to stay emotionally invested. Some of the drama felt manufactured, and while Dane was likable enough he sometimes came across passive aggressive and Ethan’s negative outlook was frustrating. I never fully connected with the characters, and I found myself skimming toward the end.
The writing was average in a good way—smooth and readable—but nothing about the story really stuck with me. I think readers who enjoy mmf tropes may enjoy this more than I did; it just wasn’t quite the right fit.

I absolutely devoured this book and love these characters dearly. This one had me going through all the feels as she often does with her books.Such a beautiful story that explores self discovery, introspection, and personal growth.
Berlin’s contemporary romances really do offer something for everyone. If you haven’t read once of her books you absolutely must 💛
Thank you to Berlin Wick and The Smuthood for the arc.
This is the fourth book in the Balance of Power series, but it can be read as a standalone. I do highly recommend the entire series.
I have been so excited about Dane's book and this did not disappoint. It started off 🔥🔥 and then delivered with a fantastic plot that was emotional, sweet, spicy, and heartwarming.
Dane, Hannah, and Ethan meet in Paris and have an immediate connection. Hannah and Ethan are already together and have a long history and shared trauma. Ethan is grumpy but lovable and Hannah is so strong. They are a great couple but blossom even more when Dane is added into the mix. Dane is a sweet and brilliant golden retriever MMC that you will absolutely love. He also has some past trauma.
Together these three have some major hot and steamy moments but also heal each other. They don't have it easy but they do get a beautiful HEA!! Love a good found family and so happy Dane, Hannah, and Ethan have each other.
At times my emotions were all over the place while reading, I could not put this down.

The Lessons We Learn by Berlin Wick is the fourth and final book in the Balance of Power series. It is a MARVELOUS and ADDICTIVE read. Once again Wick proves why she is such an amazing author! I adore her ability to showcase strong character development, satisfying plot pacing, write delightful banter, and craft a p@ssionate, deliciously h0t sp!cy scene... or several. Her writing style is purposeful, smooth and thoroughly entertaining.
Dane - What's not to love about him? He is a carefree, golden retriever billionaire with a big personality who knows who he is and is comfortable with it. I love that he allowed himself to have feelings for not only one, but TWO people. For all of his bad@ss charm and loud confidence, he was also unexpectedly tender at times, which I was ALL FOR!
Hannah is a vibrant, sweet and steady FMC who has experienced serious trauma (including with one of the MCs, but not because of him), but persevered and seeks to move on. Her ability to allow Ethan to be vulnerable and explore his feelings without excessive jealousy or judgement is exquisite. She also knows who she is and is comfortable with that.
Ethan is by far the most complex MC of the three. I enjoyed his beautiful transformation arc -- from being honest with himself being bi-curious all the way to standing up to a horrible family member. Navigating his emotional journey all while still showing Hannah how much he cared about and respected her.
It was breathtaking to watch Ethan navigate a myriad of emotions (grief, doubt, excitement, vulnerability, acceptance) as he explored how his evolving feelings changed his life and relationships. Through Hannah's and Dane's support and authenticity, I think Ethan feels the necessary freedom to explore his des!res. Each individual MCs personal growth felt "real" and yet unexpected at times.
Clearly with a triad, there are going to be some fabulously sp!cy situations. Per usual, Berlin Wick delivered some masterpieces. Each chapter had its own reason to make me fan myself, frequently while blushing. And there were many powerful moments of int!macy that felt purposeful, instead of simply sm*t for sm*ts sake. It helped move forward the narrative and emotional growth of the characters.
IYKYK: Napkins & Mashed Potatoes, Eiffel Tower scene
Overall, I cannot recommend The Lessons We Learn by Berlin Wick highly enough. It was a multi-layered, magnificently emotional read that gave me all the big feels. It is perfect for readers who crave a moody, open‑door sp!cy narrative that explores the longing for genuine connection. The MCs have explosive chemistry that was explored through plenty of seduct!ve scenes that will live rent-free in my head.
A huge thank you to Berlin Wick and The Smuthood for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Dane has lived his adult life traveling the world, never staying in any one place very long, starts to feel the need for some stability. While on one last trip before he starts a teaching position at a technical college, Dane meets a couple that turns his world upside down. Dane decides to spend his first night back in Paris at the local life style club. He has an intense encounter with a stranger at the glory hole and for the first time, he wished it wasn’t anonymous. Back at the hostel, Ethan and Hannah just checked in. This is their last stop of their summer backpacking trip. Dane recognizes the scar on Ethan’s hand from the club. It feels meant to be. Ethan has been struggling with his bi-curious feelings and with the support of his girlfriend Hannah, was able to explore it for the first time. Then Dane comes into the picture pushing his boundaries at every turn. They explore Paris together, the banter is effortless and they have explosive chemistry. Their story is emotional, tender, and at the same time so hot. It was great seeing Ethan discover himself while Dane helps him explore. I wanted more from Hannah’s pov, it left me feeling this was more about Dane and Ethan and she was just there in the background. A huge misunderstanding cuts their time together in Paris short. Ethan and Hannah are in the last year of their mba program and guess who their new professor is? Dane. I would have liked to have seen more of their day to day life of through the semester instead of jumping forward. Dane is goofy, a big personality who lives and loves loudly. Hannah is a unique character, after having lost her voice in an accident, she is a nonverbal ASL speaker. She is kind and full of sunshine. Where Dane is easy going, Ethan is rigid and feels stuck. Dane is a huge flirt and loves getting under Ethan’s skin and making Hannah blush. They are a perfect fit, bringing out the best in each other. The main issue I have with the story is the inaccuracies with Hannah, while a person can live without a larnyx (voice box), they’re are some things that are left out of how she would actually live. She also wouldn’t be able to hum or moan because those sounds are made with the vibrations of air moving through the vocal cords. However, I loved seeing the ASL representation, any reppresentation is always going to add to the story.

This book is messy in the best way. It’s morally complicated, emotionally layered, sexually charged, and somehow still soft where it counts. Dane – The Man Who Has Everything and Nothing Dane opens this story in a literal Parisian sex club, chasing pleasure like it’s oxygen. A tech genius who accidentally helped launch the AI revolution, he’s rich beyond reason, rootless by choice, and emotionally running from guilt he doesn’t know how to sit with. He lives in hostels instead of hotels. He chooses chaos over comfort. Glory holes over relationships. And yet… underneath all that freedom is a man aching for stability. When he gives and receives pleasure from a stranger behind a wall and only catches a glimpse of a checkmark-shaped scar on a hand — that should’ve been the end of it. Except it isn’t. Because fate has a wicked sense of humor. Ethan & Hannah – Trauma, Loyalty, and Desire Ethan isn’t reckless like Dane. He’s contained. Guarded. Haunted. Former baseball star. Career ended by a drunk driver. Financial debt hanging over him. A father who controls him through obligation. And a girlfriend he would sacrifice anything for. Hannah is nonverbal, fiercely intelligent, emotionally steady, and more perceptive than anyone gives her credit for. The accident left her scarred physically. Ethan is scarred internally. Their relationship is built on loyalty. Survival. Love. But not full honesty. When Dane realizes the man from the club is his hostel roommate — and sees that same checkmark scar — everything shifts. And when he meets Hannah and sees her matching trauma written into her skin, the story becomes something deeper than just sex. It becomes about: Exploration vs. betrayal Curiosity vs. identity Love vs. possession Freedom vs. fear The Dynamic (And Why It Works) This isn’t just a spicy bi-awakening romance. It’s a slow unraveling of three people trying to understand: Who they are What they want And whether desire makes them selfish Ethan questioning his attraction to men. Hannah encouraging exploration instead of suppressing it. Dane falling harder than he ever planned to. The tension isn’t just physical — it’s emotional. Especially when Ethan spirals after learning Dane might “always do this,” believing he manipulated their environment. That moment in the hostel when Ethan says, “He used us”? That hurt. Because you can feel that this wasn’t casual for any of them. The Professor Twist? Unhinged. When they end up in Seattle and Dane is suddenly their MBA professor? The AUDACITY. And when Ethan decides to get payback — sending that video to Dane mid-class? Power shift. Dominance flip. Delicious chaos. Ethan stepping into confidence — sexually and emotionally — especially in front of his controlling father? That growth arc was everything. What This Book Does Well ✔ Explores bisexuality without shame ✔ Portrays disability respectfully and powerfully ✔ Handles trauma with nuance ✔ Builds tension through restraint and miscommunication ✔ Gives us a poly dynamic that feels intentional, not gimmicky ✔ Actually delivers emotional growth This isn’t just about sex in Paris. It’s about reclaiming identity after trauma. It’s about unlearning shame. It’s about choosing love without shrinking yourself.
“Is it normal to feel guilty about finding love again?” “I suppose it is… or I suppose nothing is normal. But they’re amazing. I’m so in love with both of them, and I feel so goddamn lucky.”
Wow. I am absolutely blown away by this book.
I’ve been waiting for Dane’s story since book two, and Berlin Wick did not disappoint. She delivered in every possible way. This book ate and left no crumbs.
The MMF dynamic is not just fitting for Dane, it feels inevitable. His personality is so big, so open, so all-in that loving fully and expansively is simply who he is. Watching him pour that devotion into both Ethan and Hannah, especially through the emotional roller coaster this story takes you on, was incredibly satisfying.
The chemistry between all three is off the charts. The banter, the tension, and the emotional payoff hits hard. Ethan’s journey in particular gutted me in the best way. Seeing him slowly come out of his shell, push past his rigid exterior, accept who he is, and believe that he is worthy of happiness after everything he’s lost was powerful and beautifully written.
And Hannah? A force. Her line about being quiet but having so much to say absolutely floored me because it perfectly captures her role in this story. She is the grounding presence, the emotional anchor, the one who sees both men clearly and helps pull all the pieces together. This relationship does not work without her strength, insight, confidence, and resilience.
Getting Dane’s backstory was another standout. What once looked like a carefree, playboy lifestyle is revealed to be rooted in loss and grief, and it added so much depth to his character. It was tragic, heartbreaking, and exactly the insight I didn’t know I needed.
And the spice? 🥵 Let’s be real. It delivers. Hard.
Berlin Wick does something I truly appreciate: the spice starts early, but it’s never there just to exist. Every scene is intentional, emotionally charged, and purposeful. It enhances the story rather than distracting from it, which makes everything hit even harder.
This is easily one of my favorite books in the series. While book one will always have a special place in my heart, I am completely obsessed with this trio, their love story, and how they found their way to one another. I laughed, I hurt, I got angry (Ethan’s dad can absolutely choke), and I felt everything in between.
Absolutely worth the wait. And now I am beyond ready for Kobi’s story. 👀🔥
The Lessons We Learn by Berlin Wick is already my favorite book of 2026, even though it's only February. When my blogger friend Susan Christine recommended this new author, I gave it a try and was hooked from the first story. I quickly got attached to the group of friends, read everything Berlin Wick has written, and now I'm eagerly waiting for the next release. The story pulled me in and stirred up all kinds of emotions, showing just how powerful the writing is.
The story is about Dean Campbell, 28, a genius who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double master's and has nine figures in his bank account. He created and licensed AI code, becoming wealthy, but he's missing something in his life. He travels the world searching for it. Dean is the most outgoing introvert. He and Kobi are the only singles left in the group. Since Jake, Seamus, and Hudson relocated and settled in the Pacific Northwest, Dean plans to start teaching at Polytech University in Settale in the fall. Kobi will still be in Japan, traveling and translating for the Prime Minister. They plan one last summer backpacking and hiking through Europe, ending in Paris, where Dean and Kobi will meet up. When Dean meets a young couple, Ethan and Hannah, traveling together, anything could happen. The chemistry between Dean, Ethan, and Hannah is strong, and their dynamics work well. Ethan Russo and Hannah Parker have been together for a long time. On prom night, they were in a car accident where Hannah sustained life-threatening injuries, lost her larynx, and has severe scarring on her face and neck. Still, Hannah's attitude toward life remains positive, and she has a special aura. Ethan, once a baseball player, injured his throwing hand, ending his dream of playing professionally. His father, Edward, owns an investment firm and wants Ethan to join him, manipulating him at every chance. Ethan has been struggling with his sexuality and his future since losing his dream of playing baseball.

The Lessons We Learn is more than just a compelling story—it's a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the beauty of unlikely connections. Berlin Wick has crafted a novel that lingers long after the last page, leaving you inspired, hopeful, and eager to follow these unforgettable characters wherever life takes them next.
Dane Campbell is a man who thrives on movement, never really settling down while being anonymous as possible. When he encounters couple Ethan and Hannah, two people with their own physical scars and personal struggles, Dane learns what can happen when you find a connection worth staying for.
The MMF relationship felt organic and earned in each moment. What began as an overseas affair became a bond of comfort, stability, love and happiness for each person to feel safe in. Their bond was beautiful and necessary for each person as it helped them become more whole; both individually and together. Dane's openness, patience, and graceful love creates a stable center for this triad, especially for Ethan.
Ethan's journey has the most depth and I enjoyed his chapters the most. Raw and powerful, you see Ethan confront his grief, expectations, and his own identity so much in this novel in moments that were equally heartbreaking and hopeful. Ethan's growth was deeply human and feels so real that you could envision so many people in life going through a similar path. The fact that it wasn't rushed made Ethan such an amazing character. Hannah is observant, quiet, but the strongest of the three. She anchors her men with grace and courage. This was my first book with ASL representation and her nonverbal communication is handled with respect, both seamless and beautiful. Hannah didn't fade into the background at all or pitied for her nonverbal communication. She is seen, desired, and so important. Hannah is truly the glue of this love.
The Lessons We Learn reminds me that I have to read the first two books of this series! Berlin is such a talented writer who seems to love to push her limits as an author, unafraid to explore different avenues of the genre. The spice delivers on different levels. It's never empty or feels like something to pass through. Every intimate moment is bold and helps to push the story forward, deepen the relationships and increase the emotional stakes for everyone.
I couldn't put this book down. There were moments that made me smile, laugh, rage, and feel so happy that I couldn't put the e-book down. It's a story of love without limits, a found family without conditional ties, and learning that life's biggest lessons come from people you never expected to enter your life or love so deeply.
Thank you, Berlin, for the opportunity to ARC read your novel.
I absolutely devoured this book! It is what MMF dreams are made of. The chemistry between Dane, Ethan, and Hannah was absolutely insane. I couldn’t put this book down because I was so enthralled in their dynamic and aching to see how things played out for them.
Dane is the fun, flirty care free spirit. I loved seeing him fall in love, feel seen, and find people worth committing to given his past experiences. Seeing him be loved by Ethan and Hannah in their own ways was so special. And oh my gosh, the tattoos he got for them after their night in Paris - so freaking cute. When he falls he falls hard and loves so deeply.
Hannah, our sweet sunshine girl. I loved how she took charge at times, valued both Ethan and Dane, and supported them. She was such a guiding force for the three of them; pushing Ethan out of his comfort zone to allow him to explore his desires without an ounce of jealousy and helping Dane manage the dynamic without feeling left out. The scene in the cafe will live rent free! “Let him taste me on you.” The way her two men love, cherish and adore her scars and all was utterly captivating.
Then there’s Ethan. The quiet, thoughtful one. He loves Hannah so deeply and is so thankful for her. The way he is able to open up and interact with Dane allows him this giant release on the tight control he feels within his own life. I loved when he took control and allows himself to just feel with Dane and Hannah regardless of what anyone else thought.
“She brings me balance and security. He allows for my unpredictable side that still needs that high, that chase. He’s the yin to my yang and I think he needs me as much as I need him.”
These three completely stole my heart. The way they accepted one another, the absolute addictive spice they shared, and the intimate moments where they connect on an unparalleled level was like a total out of body experience. Wick has this uncanny ability to pack so much intensity it feels like I’ve lived a whole lifetime with these characters. If you’ve read any of the others in this series, you’ll know what I mean, but even if you haven’t, this one stands strong on its own. There’s a few twists and turns, some WTF moments, and hurdles these three need to overcome but in the end they do it together. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions filled to the brim with tension, angst, and healing.
A huge thank you to Berlin Wick & The Smuthood PR for the early copy!
I have been hooked on this series ever since I picked it up at Book 2 — Hudson and Ember’s story, The Promises We Break — so finally getting Dane’s book felt like opening a present I’d been staring at for months. Dane absolutely falls first… and falls hard. What starts as something casual between Dane, Ethan, and Hannah turns intense fast, and the chemistry between all three of them is undeniable. The tension, the longing, the stolen looks, the moments that feel like they’re about to combust… yeah, this one brings the heat right along with the emotions. Ethan’s journey was one of my favorite parts. His awakening, and the way Hannah loves him enough to encourage him to explore what he’s feeling, made their relationship feel deep and real. She doesn’t just love him — she sees him. And Dane? He sees Ethan too… maybe more clearly than anyone ever has. That connection between them builds in a way that’s both tender and seriously charged, especially with the history from that night in Paris lingering in the background like a spark waiting to catch fire. Of course, nothing this intense comes easy. A misunderstanding pulls them apart, and the pining is almost painful to read in the best way. They’re all trying to figure out how a relationship like theirs fits in the real world, but when Ethan spends time with Dane and his friends, he realizes something important — love doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s to be real… or to be worth fighting for. And that 90% twist?!?! I legitimately gasped out loud. The kind of gasp where you stare at the page and have to reread the paragraph because your brain needs a second to process what just happened. Absolutely wild. Now I am so ready for Kobi’s story, because if this one delivered this much angst, heat, and heart… I know the next one is going to wreck me in the best way.

Dane and Ethan meet one night through an anonymous club and they have one hot AF moment together.
And when Ethan and his girlfriend Hannah show up to the hostel that Dane is staying at, he instantly recognizes Dane's hands. Quickly we learn that Hannah and Dane are entering a new curious phase of their relationship, and Dane is all too happy to be there. So they spend a beautiful and HOT HOT HOT days together in Paris, all of it to fall apart before it even began. But this can't be the last time they ever see each other, can it?
Dane - I loved him SO much. He was the star of the show for me. His character was so multi-faceted. He is this confident and gives no craps billionaire, but at the same time, he allowed himself to be vulnerable and fall head over heels for two people and never look back.
Hannah - I loved her strength and perseverance. She has been through the unthinkable, both mentally, emotionally, and physically and she doesn't let that stop her. She is unapologetically herself and I seriously love her for it!
Ethan - He is probably the most complex character of the bunch, and I appreciated that. He has recently come to the realization that he may be attracted to men, and he wants to explore that with his partner, but at the same time is nervous. We see a transformation in him throughout this book that was really beautiful.
Dane, Hannah, and Ethan couldn't be more perfect for one another!

Berlin Wick is an auto-buy author for me and the Balance of Power Series is a must read for any spicy romance reader. Readers of the series know Dane as the carefree, genius billionaire of the friend group and the last one anyone would expect to settle down. That is until the addition of sweet, brilliant and beautiful Hannah and bicurious, grumpy and devoted Ethan, into Dane’s seemingly perfect life.
The Lessons We Learn begins with Dane living his unrestricted life in Paris while plagued with inner thoughts of feeling lonely, now that his closest friends are all starting to settle down with their significant others. An anonymous tryst in a Paris sex club and chance encounter in a hostel, has him jumping head first into something new with the strangers he just meet, Hannah and Ethan.
I honestly didn’t think anyone could dethrone my love of Hudson and Ember in this series but my goodness, I cannot express the love I have for these three in this book! If anyone has read The Secrets We Keep and/or Lettuce Turnip the Beet by Berlin previously, poly-relationships (at least to someone like me who is not poly) are written very well by her. There is this great *balance* of respect, power, emotion and understanding between all the partners and the relationships are genuine and insightful. It's refreshing to see these couples be or become equals as their relationships progress throughout the story and real adult decisions are made without spite and jealousy.
I cannot wait for Kobi’s book next as he seems to be the most elusive character of the bunch, even more than Seamus! I cannot sing Berlin’s praises enough and cannot wait for The Lessons We Learn to come to audio!!
Thank you to Berlin and The Smuthood for the eARC!
I have never felt so emotionally invested in one single character in a MMF romance as I have with Dane Campbell. I love his personality. But he also has a very sad background. He's a wandering soul until he meets HIM. In a glory hole of all places. Where you go for no emotional connection. Its just supposed to be a transactional release. But Dane senses otherwise for the man on the otherside with a scarred hand.
Turns out this man, Ethan, has a mute girlfriend, Hannah. Queue another tragic backstory. 😭 They are so endearing. But Ethan has expressed he wanted to maybe explore this bi-sexual feeling he has been having. She's totally open to it and on board to support him. Well a magical time on their vacation in Paris turns rocky and end with all hearts feeling cracked.
Back to their normal lives, the pair is starting their next semester in college. And the billionaire icon of a new professor just so happens to turn out to be their Paris fling, Dane.
There are so many ups and downs. I loved each of them but Dane being the odd man out and totally invested, I just have such a sweet spot in my heart for him. He goes to bat for this relationship multiple times. And that scene when he goes to Ethan's office to get him out of trouble 💥🎇🎆🫠😍 He's just so amazing!!!
I 1000% recommend picking this MMF romance up. It is part of a series with interconnected character but can be read as a standalone. But the whole series is absolutely *chef's kiss*
What to look forward to... 💥 Mute FMC 💥 Both MMC'S know ASL 💥 Billionaire (Quiet)/ Professor Switch 💥 Bi-Awakening 💥 Sex Clubs / Glory Holes / Voyeur Room 💥 Father Blackmail's Son 💥 Intense Emotional Connections 💥 Under Table Handy Business Meeting 💥 Her Semester Project will Stun and Melt You
This was such an amazing read!! I knew I’d enjoy it but it was so beyond my expectations, I had such a hard time putting it down (I had to sleep sometime) This was super spicy, funny, emotional and their chemistry was off the charts. Seriously the spice was to ☠️for 🥵
We have Dane, the bisexual billionaire world traveler, who’s seems to not have a care in the world. But he’s hiding the rest of himself from everyone. Then he meets Hannah, who’s so strong and sure of herself & her boyfriend Ethan, super grump and a bit cynical, at the hostel they are all staying at in Paris. Dane already knows Ethan is bi curious 😉 and can’t help but put on the charm for both of them. And suddenly Dane can see himself finally settle down.
Then we get the miscommunication, but fate was not done with them. Oh boy, then that plot twist near the end….. I did not see that.
No cheating, no OW / OM drama, with a HEA
* Established Couple * Bi Curiosity / Exploration * Vacation Fling * Mute FMC * Use of ASL * K!nk / S€x Club * Professor / Billionaire MMC
“She brings me balance and security. He allows for my unpredictable side that still needs that high, that chase. He’s the yin to my yang and I think he needs me as much as I need him.” —Dane
“As active as that lifestyle is, I still feel lonely. And even though my friends thought I was off galavanting around the world, hooking up with someone different every night, that’s been far from the truth.” —Dane
“I might be silent but I have a lot to say.” —Hannah
SPOILER!! The ONLY thing I did not like was: that person (iykyk) not get what was coming to him 🤬
This book was so much fun. It brings all the banter and spice you expect from a Berlin Wick book, but it surprised me how much heart it had too. There's an undercurrent of vulnerability running throughout the story, which made it hit harder than I expected.
Dane was a standout for me. He's been a favourite throughout the series, extroverted, goofy, confident, but seeing that softer, more vulnerable side of him was so beautiful, and his backstory made me ache for him. Ethan was complex and raw, struggling with his sexuality and carrying so much emotional weight. His relationship with his father and the manipulation he's dealing with made me just want to jump through the book and hug him. And Hannah is such an inspiring character, confident, self-accepting, strong and never defined by her scars or her voice. I adored her!
Together, these three have ridiculous chemistry. The banter, the push and pull, the tension, it all works so well. They each bring something different to the table without clashing, and the connection feels natural throughout. Every interaction between Dane and Ethan had my heart racing. Together, they are electric. Add in Hannah, and every moment amps up to a whole new level. They are HOT!!! 🔥
This story had me feeling deeply for each character at different points, with moments that genuinely made me tear up, gasp, or pause to catch my breath. At the same time, it’s perfectly balanced with hilarious scenes that had me laughing out loud, and the cameos of the other characters were so fun.
Overall, I absolutely loved this one. It's a great addition to the series, with amazing characters that feel real, layered, and easy to root for. I laughed, I cried, and I was invested from the very beginning. Absolutely recommended and one I will definitely re-read (Though, this is technically a re-read, as I BETA read it last year... Clearly, I can't get enough of them!) Bring on Kobi's story...
This was my first experience reading Berlin Wick, but I am officially hooked and will definitely be going back to devour the rest of this series. The balance of angst, comedy, and spice was perfection, particularly because the steam actually served the plot and moved the story forward rather than just being there for its own sake.
The character dynamics are what truly sold me, especially with the inclusion of such thoughtful ASL representation. Dane is pure golden retriever energy, while Ethan serves as the broody, bi-curious catalyst who sets the throuple in motion. Then there’s Hannah, who reminds me so much of myself. She is the ultimate observer, picking up on all the things others don’t want to put down. Like many of us, she has so much to say but feels forced to stay quiet in her own way; seeing her navigate her world—and her communication—was incredibly moving and relatable.
My only slight hesitation is that I’m generally not a fan of billionaire characters, as I usually prefer my romance to feel a bit more attainable. However, this nearly earned a full five stars because of how the wealth was handled. I loved that Ethan solved his own "dad issues" instead of Dane simply sweeping in with a checkbook to save the day. That independence, combined with the depth of the characters, made this an unforgettable read.
I can’t wait to see what the other books in this world have in store!
Thank you, Berlin & The Smuthood, for the opportunity to fall in love with these characters before everyone else.

“The Lessons We Learn” is the fourth book in the “Balance of Power Series.” This is an MMF contemporary romance with a bi-sexual awakening and lots of open door spice. This book pushes boundaries that is only limited by their imaginations - Dane, Ethan and Hannah! The dynamics of the trio is interesting as both Jake and Christian are both Alpha males - the main difference is that Dane is a long more confident within himself and his sexuality. Together, the three of them just connect - it is mind blowing!
“My cheeks flush pink because it’s been a long time since a man flirted with me and never has a man had the audacity to do it just feet away from my boyfriend. Her eyes connect with mine and she strips her clothes off slowly, seductively. Like she’s the one in full control. Who am I kidding? She’s always in control when it comes to the two of us.”
The book is full of the unexpected at times, voyeurism, passion, pain, blackmail, honest vulnerability - this book does not disappoint! There is never a dull moment - you will be kept thoroughly entertained from start to finish! I could not put this book down, page to page, chapter to chapter - read in less than four hours! Nearly every page sizzles with hot wanton sex or the thoughts or possibilities of what the punishment will be? The book - I did not want it to end! A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
I absolutely devoured this book and loved these characters so much. This one put me through all the feels...messy, emotional, tender, and hot all at once. It’s morally complicated in the best way and really leans into self-discovery, identity, and personal growth.
The setup alone had me hooked: Dane, a rootless tech genius drifting around the world, has one intense, anonymous encounter in Paris… and then fate decides to be chaotic and drops that same man (Ethan) and his girlfriend Hannah into his hostel room. From there, it’s forced proximity, effortless banter, explosive chemistry, and a whole lot of feelings no one is prepared for.
Dane is a golden retriever chaos flirt with a big heart and zero emotional brakes. Ethan is rigid, guarded, and struggling with his bi-awakening after a life-altering accident. Hannah is confident, kind, nonverbal, and honestly the emotional anchor of the trio. I loved how they balanced each other out and how their connection felt genuine, not just spicy for the sake of it.
This story is about curiosity vs fear, freedom vs safety, love vs possession and it doesn’t take the easy route. The misunderstandings hurt, the emotions run high, and the professor twist? Unhinged in the best soap-opera way.
My only small gripe was wanting a bit more of Hannah’s POV and some of the real-world logistics explored more deeply, but overall? This was messy, heartfelt, and deeply engaging. If you like bi-awakening, forced proximity, found family vibes, and emotionally layered poly dynamics, this one is absolutely worth the ride.
Completely hooked from page one, I mean how could I not be? Dane has had me intrigued this entire series, so finally getting his book? Absolute chef’s kiss. 😘🔥
Dane,a free spirit, watches his close friends settle down and decides it’s time for a new adventure…teaching at a local college in Seattle. But before that chapter begins, he takes one last trip to Paris… and let’s just say, what happens in Paris does not stay in Paris. 🥵✨ After a scorching, unforgettable night ( wild Glory Hole fun) and a chance meeting at a hostel with Hannah and Ethan, sparks fly fast almost immediately and what starts as chemistry quickly turns into something deeper. But one painful miscommunication sends them all back to the States heartbroken. When fate brings them crashing back together? The tension, the longing, the SPARKS… absolutely undeniable. 💫💋
Hannah's quiet strength, Dane's flirty free spirit, and Ethan's powerful growth made this trio unforgettable.
The writing is immersive and packed with emotion and delicious detail. I genuinely struggled to put this book down, once I started, I was gone.
Huge thank you to Berlin and The Smuthood for this incredible ARC opportunity! I am beyond ready for Kobi’s book. 😍📚✨
♥️ MMF ♥️ Bi-awakening ♥️ ASL Rep ♥️ Found Family ♥️ Secret Identity Vibes
Obsession is my word for this book. By obsession I mean I was immediately in love with this book. It captured my attention from the first chapter and I’ve finished it and still can’t let it go. ♥️
In this one we have Dane, our MMC, who is spending his life traveling looking for something that he doesn’t even know what is. Then we have our couple, Hannah and Ethan, who are traveling and rebuilding themselves after tragedy. Ethan wants to explore his bi-curious side of himself and Hannah is all for it. So he goes to a lifestyle club for the secrecy. But what happens when he ends up in a hostel and the man he was with recognizes him? Read it and find it out. You won’t regret it! 🖤
I really like everything about this book. The pace is perfect. The characters are real and raw not just perfect fairy tales. And the found family vibe is my favorite thing. 🥹 I love how these broken people found each other and healed parts of themselves they don’t even know needed healing.
Then the spice? 🥵 Berlin Wick always writes the best spice and she did not disappoint in this one.
Overall this is a five star read and Berlin Wick has become an immediate buy for me! ♥️
Thank you so much Berlin Wick and the smuthood for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 🖤
The wild and crazy one-date Dane, the genius bachelor meets Ethan and Hannah in a hostel in Paris, they click immediately, they know nothing about each other's just the sexual tension between them and that what leads to days full spice but then Ethan discover something about him, he feels betrayed so him and Hannah left Dane without an explanation and totally alone but what's gonna happen when a month later they find out that their new professor is the man that they met in Paris?! This reading was amazing, the tension the chemistry and the spice between these three was to die for, the writing was so good, an easy fast paced interesting story that gonna keep you glued to your kindle until the very last page. These three together were so damn hot, the chemistry between them felt so natural Seeing Ethan grow in finally what he is and especially in what he wants was so emotionally. Hannah is truly the strongest person, she's observant, smart and confident. Dane is flirty, funny his personality is so open he just needs all the love in the world, Ethan and Hannah were just what Dane needed. This is my first book from this author and it's definitely not going to be my last one, I'm. obsessed can't wait to read more!
The Lessons We Learn absolutely floored me—in the best way. It exceeded my expectations and delivered everything I love in a romance: MMF, bi-awakening, forced proximity, found family and incredible ASL representation handled with such care and sensitivity.
Ethan and Hannah are a deeply loving, committed couple whose relationship is never in doubt. Watching them meet Dane in Paris and open their hearts in unexpected ways was beautiful. Hannah is a strong, supportive FMC—brilliant, compassionate and secure in who she is. Ethan is a total green-flag hero, devoted to Hannah while navigating his own self-discovery. Their love is steady, honest and unwavering.
And Dane… my heart. Beneath the billionaire genius and carefree façade is a man who just wants to be loved for who he truly is. Seeing him fall hard for Ethan and Hannah—and slowly open himself up despite his past—was emotional and so rewarding.
This story made me laugh, cry and feel everything in between. Watching these three heal, grow and build something real together was incredibly moving. The romance is powerful, the emotional depth hits hard, and yes—the spice is hot. 🔥
This series keeps getting better, and I couldn’t put this one down. A beautiful, emotional journey to a well-earned HEA.
Berlin never fails to keep me enthralled in her books s8nce the first book I read of hers. i start reading and I don't ever want to put it down. This book is no different.
We start out in Paris with Dane when he's on a backpacking trip and decides to go to a s*x club. He has a good time there with a man and the man leaves after. Later that nights he meets a couple staying at the same hostel he's staying at and instantly feels attracted to them.
Ethan is Hannah's boyfriend. They both have been together for years. Hannah is nonverbal and communicates through ASL. I really loved them both and how open and supportive Hannah is with Ethan's bi-curiosity.
He proposes he shows them Paris and they have a good time. After a misunderstanding a few days later they leave. Dane is heartbroken. But a month later, he is set to start teaching a college class and guess who's two of his students? Ethan and Hannah.
Berlin Wick never disappoints with her books. She brings the spice, she brings the plot, the emotional moments that will have you teary eyed.
There won't ever be a book by Berlin that I won't read. I have followed her since her debut book and will stick with her forever.
Thank you Berlin Wick for the book in exchange for my honest opinion.
One night in a club in Paris changes everything for Dane, Ethan, and Hannah. What starts as an unexpected connection turns into something none of them saw coming—especially Dane, who finds himself drawn not to one person, but to two in a way that feels undeniable. When fate brings them back together in an unexpected setting, their story of connection truly takes flight.
This book surprised me in all the best ways. Yes, the spice sizzles from start to finish, but what really stood out was how beautifully the characters were developed. I felt connected to each of them, and I loved that they each had their own emotional journey to navigate. The bi-awakening storyline was handled with so much care and authenticity, and the love and respect between them absolutely hit me in the heart. The found family in this book is worth shouting about too, you just want to be part of this accepting, supportive group. The ASL representation was another highlight for me—it felt thoughtful, meaningful, and seamlessly woven into the story.
I will 100% be rereading this when the audio releases because these characters and their connection are ones I’m not ready to let go of.
