I'm an illustrator who loves making books. I've had a few different jobs over the years, but my favourite before this one was making pizzas. If you can think of it, I have probably tried it on a pizza. Chips work surprisingly well as a topping. Donuts, not so much.

So far I've written the words and drawn the pictures for five picture books, including “The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom” and “Big Bad Dragon Club”. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy them a lot more than my pizzas.

Got access to this on NetGalley…. Publishes end of August 2026.

Absolutely hilarious graphic novel for 7+
Perfect for all the BvM and Dog Man fans
A group of Class pets get together for a video meeting before term starts and discuss a new pet starting as one passed away at sports day through a javelin accident.
Up turns a snake who creates chaos as he eats the hamster and the head teacher. They have to work out how to deal with the snake and stay safe. Brilliantly funny. Can’t wait to get a physical copy for school .

When the school's different class pets see a new member of their group – a snake – eat one of them, live on their group video call, they know they have to galvanise and seek revenge. Not to kill the snake, you understand – this is very much a PG book – but to somehow get the, er, snakiness out of him. Which is easier said than done…

This proved to be a wonderful and quirky drama, packed with distinctive characters from the cat to the stick insect, and something able to manage really strong action scenes when necessary. Of course it's OTT – the snake had started work on the human staff before snacking on class pets – but that's not a problem. Black and white and terracotta are the only colours needed, and everything survives being ramped up to eleven to make a really comedic drama.

There's also realism, too, as the piece takes us from the nightmarish cleaning rota in the school canteen to the halcyon ground of the staff loos. This is a way to say how instantly recognisable all this would be to the target readership – yet one more item of evidence that the creator knows what his audience would know, and want, and also that he knows how to deliver. The wait for Book Two starts here – this is four and a half stars and very highly recommended.

My 7 year old was rolling around with laughter at this graphic novel/comic. He loved the different class pet characters and adored the new addition and all the chaos he brought with him.

It was a really fun read with fantastic illustrations. Perfect for young readers and one that will stand up to rereading. The story was relatable and the setting was perfect. My little one loved doing different voices for each character.

It swaps between full colour and black and white illustrations at times but both are fantastic and don't detract from the overall read. The ending epilogue was a really fun addition too.

Loved it and can't wait for the next comic on the series to come out.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for our copy

My 8-year old son finished this in two days and as much as I tried to read along with him, it was very clear I was distracting him from a good book.
He laugh out loud enjoyed Class Pets and has already asked to read it again. Apparently it's in his top 4 books and can't wait to get a physical copy.
Since we didn't read this together, I read it on my own. Grown ups, pay attention to the detail, there's something for you too. 'Devil Class' and the 'Sensory Garden' full of Cacti and many more. I suspect my little one missed this, but if you are reading along too I'm sure you'll enjoy the little chuckles along the way.
My son rates this 4.5 stars and I don't disagree.

Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Kids

This is such a laugh out, funny book that children aged 7+ are going to love! I read a copy of this on #NetGalley with my child who absolutely loved it. He found the characters funny especially Ken the stick insect.
I will be buying a few copies for our library as, the children are going to queuing up to get their hands on this!
Great for fans of Bunny vs Monkey or Happy Hills and reluctant readers.

An hilarious, crazy illustrated children’s book. I read this with my daughter who loved every aspect of it. Like her, I think this will suit fans of Dog Man, similar comic style arguably funnier in my opinion. So colourful and so engaging, it’s very addictive. Highly recommended.

A hilarious funny tale about class pets. A new class pet arrives and everything goes wrong. Full of great characters, bad ideas and adventure! I can't wait until the next one!

My son read this in one sitting and really enjoyed it.
He said:
I liked the story, it was fun to read. How they fooled the snake was really funny. I think my friends might want to read it.
