Perfect for lovers of real enemies to lovers, Witch Collector series, feminine rage, and men who like to use magic in the bedroom. There is spicy spice in this series.
Sloan writes love through trust and trauma. She also writes open-door spice because romance needs toe-curling steam. Her passion for romance comes from the belief that the world would be a better place if everyone found their fated mate. Fantasy and world-building are the ways she immerses you in a new place that feels familiar, and magic in the bedroom is never off the table.
When she isn’t behind her desk, she’ll be in the garden growing vegetables, or if Canada is buried in snow, she’ll be planning her garden and playing with the dogs. She spends her days with her crux… if you haven’t learned what a crux is, read her complete Dark Aria series. Sloan loves connecting with her readers. Summers Fading Day not only deepens the intricate web of emotions and complexities that Sloan has masterfully crafted throughout the Starless Night series but also left me wrestling with a whirlwind of feelings that I can’t seem to shake.
This latest installment evokes a profound sense of frustration—though it's the kind that stems from being intensely invested in the characters and their journeys. Seren's and Atlas’s fate hangs tantalisingly in the balance, has left me desperate for resolution. The dynamic between these two is not just compelling; it’s heart-wrenching, as their love story unfolds amidst overwhelming adversity.
Darius is a character that will ignite fury within you—his arrogance and cruelty towards Seren are frustratingly reminiscent of toxic relationships many readers may identify with. This element of the story resonates deeply, bringing forth emotions tied to personal experiences. Yet, amidst this turmoil, Seren’s indomitable spirit shines through. Her resilience serves as a powerful reminder of strength in vulnerability, making her journey not just relatable but also inspiring.
Sloan's writing is vivid and immersive, transporting is into a beautifully crafted world that ignites the imagination. The descriptions are so rich that they create a tapestry of colors and images that seem to leap off the page and into the mind’s eye. You can truly feel the landscapes and emotions, making every chapter a sensory experience that I lap up every time.
The emotional depth of the narrative is one of Sloan's commendable strengths. Each chapter evokes various life stages and challenges, allowing us readers to process their own experiences alongside the fictional narrative. This connection highlights the exceptional talent of the author in drawing out such strong emotions, making every reader feel as though their own story is intertwined with that of the characters.
While avoiding spoilers, it’s essential to mention that this book skillfully expands the roles of side characters, giving them the spotlight and depth they deserve. This development adds layers to the storyline and enhances the richness of the overall narrative. The concept of the Enaro was particularly intriguing, presenting the opportunity for their story to be explored further. A novella focusing on the complexities of these misunderstood characters would be a welcome addition!
Summers Fading Day is a gripping and emotionally charged entry in the Starless Night series that demands to be read. It challenges us readers, engages the heart, and sets the stage for a conclusion that promises to be as riveting as the journey has been. If you dive into this book, prepare to feel every ounce of emotion it offers and maybe even thank Sloan for the journey afterward!
Seren was my breath, my heartbeat, and my undoing. There was nothing unachievable with her beside me.
Holy Crap, what a wild book!
Summer’s Fading Day is a gripping and emotionally relentless continuation of the Starless Night series! It was filled with trauma, vengeance, and some of the worst villains imaginable. This third installment in the Starless Night series is an absolute whirlwind!
This starts where we left off in the second book, Seren believing her mate is dead, she's kidnapped, trapped in the palace, and bound to a King whose obsession is as terrifying as it is controlling. She was literally living a nightmare. Darius is a villain who inspires pure rage. He's such a great chatacter but oh boy did I want to punch the fuck out of him! His manipulation, entitlement, and madness are so realistic. Sloan masterfully portrays the dynamics of toxic relationships and Darius's obsessive control, which makes the story have so much depth. Honestly, I can't wait til Seren kills him; she truly deserves her revenge!
Watching Seren endure everything was so heartbreaking. And even at her lowest, she remains brave and determined to protect others. She's so quick with her thinking, trying to outsmart Darius, day by day as he continuously tries to control her. Her strength in the face of cruelty makes her an unforgettable protagonist.
We also get to see Atlas’s POV, as he tries to make his way to save Seren. His journey is filled with desperation as he tries to get to Seren as fast as he can. The looming presence of the Violet Darkbringer adds a constant undercurrent of dread. While the reveal was exciting, I did manage to predict it thanks to the clever trail of hints woven throughout this book, which honestly made the payoff even more satisfying. Though from the first 2 books, I would't have expected the Violet Darkbringer to be who it is, but WOW, this was a great twist, honestly, it makes sense in a way.
I love Sloan’s descriptive writing; it really paints such a vivid picture, and immersiveness is *chef's kiss*. I love how she's able to balance between darkness and light with moments of spice, banter, heartbreaking moments, and a found family aspect that gives a softness throughout all the chaos happening. Also, the tidbits of info we get on the side characters throughout bring an added depth to the story. Frewin & Redford (my second fav couple! It'd be cool to have a small story on them). And I love Hershy, but I feel like we didn't get to see much of his charm in this book!
Overall, Summer’s Fading Day will build you up, break you down, and leave you desperate for more! While I'm super excited for the next book, I'm also terrified for what's to come! I love the direction this series is heading. B.V. Sloan raises the stakes in every possible way, delivering a story that hurts, heals, and haunts long after the final page.
Summer’s Fading Day is a stunningly dark, twisted, and emotionally relentless installment in the Starless Night series.
This story places Seren in a situation that feels like a waking nightmare. Believing her love is gone, she is taken, controlled, and forced into survival mode under circumstances that are cruel, destabilising, and deeply confronting. Watching Seren navigate this space was heartbreaking. Her growing awareness of Darius’s cruelty and debauchery made every attempt at resistance feel heavy with risk, and each time she fought for control, the cost was devastating.
Atlas’s journey runs in parallel, fuelled by grief, determination, and love. His drive to save Seren, while also trying to end a much larger war, added tension and urgency that never let up. The looming presence of the Violet Darkbringer created an undercurrent of dread throughout, the sense that something terrible was always close, even when unseen.
This was a dark read, and I have not wished for a character’s death so fiercely since reading the Red Rising saga by Pierce Brown. The emotional weight of Seren’s experiences stayed with me long after I put the book down. The trauma she endures is intense, layered, and written in a way that made my chest ache for her.
There are brief moments of respite as characters reunite and the sense of found family grows, but they never last long before the battle pulls everything back into motion.
The ending left me holding conflicting emotions. It was action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled, and the final reveal genuinely shocked me. I never once felt able to predict where the story was heading, which only deepened the impact.
I cannot wait to read the final installment, though I already know this book will linger with me for quite some time.
I received this book as an ARC. This review reflects my honest thoughts and feelings, shared voluntarily.
I have been dying for more of this series, and it did not disappoint. This was an insanely emotional journey, filled with heartache, trauma, vengeance, and the worst villains imaginable - yes plural! Bravo on making the Prince even more despicable, and showing what toxic obsession and insanity really look like. This was a deep dive into the worst of humanity, exploring control, manipulation, and survival. I adored Seren's bravery and compassion, even after her devastating loss and facing horrific treatment at the hands of her deranged fiance, she still finds the strength to put others before her and try to save her loved ones, and those vulnerable to the Princes madness. This had spicy magic, emotional reunions, and satisfying justice. It will keep you hooked, build you up, break you down, and shake you with the twists and turns. I am both excited and scared for the final book to come.
Want to know who the violet darkbringer is?? read this book on 21st Jan!
✨"I would die a thousand deaths to keep you safe"
✨"I was a monster's prey, and like an idiot, I had walked into his claws"
✨"You can tell the stars a witch sent you to them"
💕 This book is filled with psychological mind games and was such a blast to read. Part 3 of a 4 part series, we get to witness the wavering of Seren’s strength of character. Seren and Atlas have been forcibly separated. And with this, she is brought back to the castle to wed the prince.
While a lot happens in this book, I absolutely loved that we got to witness the psychotic spiral of the once endearing Prince Darius. His delusional state; his constant switching from sweet and gentle to rage and madness.
Seren in book 3 is no longer the same woman we saw in book 1. Her transformation in book 2 saw her enlightened to the world around her. And now, the naïveté, the brainwashing is gone.
The message in this book is solid - No us and no them - and it echoes throughout.
Kidnapped and locked in the castle, Seren has two choices. To give in to the whims of the mad prince, or bide her time until she is able to kill Darius or maybe, if she survives his torment long enough, she can become the queen, kill him and finally effect change.
Meanwhile, Atlas, Nissa and the rest have their own plans for saving Seren. And along the way, they learn more about both Seren and Atlas’ lineages, how their pasts are connected, and how the Violet Darkbringer comes into play. There’s a lot of foreshadowing for book 4, and I can already tell it’s going to be a thrilling ride.
This book thankfully starts right after that brutal cliffhanger at the end of book 2. Seren has now been kidnapped by Darius and forced back to the castle. Darius is extra crazy, controlling and gross. Poor Seren really gets put through it here. You are right there with her in her emotions as she tries to survive the trauma both physically and mentally. She is actually iconic. The good new is Atlas remains amazing and I love him. His struggle is also real. There is also a lot more spice in this book so the book is definitely balanced between dark and light events. There was a twist that I did not see coming and it was a brutal one. This book takes no prisoners. No one is safe and emotions are high so these poor characters. I cannot wait for the next book!!!!!
Seren wakes after the aftermath of that captivating ending in book 2 To her last vision of her Mate being killed !
Devastated by grief and ready to make sacrifices for her loved ones, willing to do whatever it takes to avenge his death , she will endure all anything the cruel and psychotic prince throws at her.
But how much can Seren endure to make sure the witches and humans can live in world together with no more separation and hatred?
“ No us and No them “
This book had me wanting to commit murder, I don’t think I’ve ever read a villain this psychotic as Prince Darius ! Holy F***!
I cannot believe wait for book to see how it all wraps up ! Sloan has done it again
This is the third book in the Starless Night series by BV Sloan. This book was wild. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late reading it! Let me just say Darius is a certified whacko and I was just dumbfounded by the crap he pulled. Seren is still amazing and fierce but we see her go through a major transformation and growth in this one. The bonds of love and friendship are strengthened. The found family is refreshing. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!
And though Sloan kept telling me there was "no soup" in this story, there was more than a bowl or two to be had!
I didn't expect to finish this one as quickly as I did, but at this point - I feel I should know better! And catching onto the Violet Darkbringer's tells?! HOW DID I KEEP MISSING THAT?!?!
This series has everything; romance, spice, intrigue, secrets, twists, deception and one hell of a plot. Really enjoyable series with witchy/magical lord of the rings vibes. My favourite read of the year so far!
