The Grimoire of Lucy Dyer

Rate this book
“The Dyer women are bound by blood, by bone, and by the ghosts we cannot escape.”

When Lucy Dyer returns to Weatherly, she swears she’s only there to settle her grandmother’s estate and put the decaying family mansion on the market. But the Dyer House is more than wood and stone—it’s a shrine of ancestral secrets, a haunted reliquary of grief, and a living testament to the witches who came before her.

Within its walls lurk memories she’s tried to a dead lover, a mother slipping into addiction, and a town that whispers her name like a curse. The further Lucy digs into the estate—and the family grimoire she inherits—the more she realizes the house has been waiting for her return. And so have the spirits.

And then there’s Maddox—the one man she never thought she’d see again. A childhood friend turned forbidden flame, Maddox is bound to Weatherly by his own dark past. Drawn back together in the shadow of the Dyer House, their attraction rekindles with dangerous heat. But loving Maddox might cost Lucy more than her heart—it might cost her soul.

Every chapter brings a spell, ritual, or charm pulled straight from the Dyer witches’ sacred book, binding Lucy’s fate tighter with her bloodline. But with old enemies stirring in the graveyard and shadows resurrecting her worst nightmares, Lucy must embrace the terrifying legacy she’s spent her life fleeing…or be consumed by it.

The Grimoire of Lucy Dyer will captivate readers who love the haunted Southern atmosphere of The Haunting of Hill House, the witchy inheritance of Practical Magic, the sensual darkness of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, and the slow-burn danger of Southern Vampire Mysteries (True Blood).

Step inside the Dyer House...if you dare.

This was such an enticing read from start to finish. I found myself tearing through the pages to learn how Lucy figures out the mess that is the Dyer house and all of its hidden secrets. I found that I enjoyed the story of Luella possibly more than I did Lucy’s which left me starving for more of her story by the end of it. Hopefully there will be a sequel, prequel, or novella that takes time to really dive into Luella, her grandmother, and other various interesting characters introduced throughout the novel. You can tell that this was a project of love by the author, and that often translates to the reader feeling a sense of that comfort while reading. I know I did! I especially liked how each chapter ended in a grimoire page.

The Grimoire of Lucy Dryer is a hauntingly beautiful tale steeped in ancestral magic, self-empowerment, and gothic charm. At its heart is Lucy—a goth girl who believes she has everything she’s ever wanted, until life pulls her back to the place where it all began. Returning home awakens long-buried roots, and with them, a slow unraveling of the life she thought she understood.

As Lucy reconnects with her ancestry, everything begins to spiral—mysterious, emotional, and at times overwhelming—until she learns to claim the power that has always been hers. What unfolds is a deeply relatable journey of identity, grief, growth, and reclamation.

Kitty Fields weaves magic and witchery seamlessly into the narrative, pairing gothic imagery with heartfelt emotion. The story evokes joy, understanding, and more than a few tears, making it easy to see yourself reflected in Lucy’s struggles and triumphs. There’s a sense of promise threaded throughout the darkness—a reminder that returning to your roots, though painful, can be profoundly transformative.

Moody, magical, and empowering, The Grimoire of Lucy Dryer is a spellbinding read for anyone drawn to gothic aesthetics, ancestral stories, and tales of stepping fully into one’s own power. 🖤✨

I absolutely loved this book! From the letter written to the readers at the beginning to the spells at the end of each chapter. It had a little bit of everything you need in a good book. We had a backwards small town where a young Lucy had run from everything and tried to start over. She ran from her town, her history, her friends & family but especially herself. She comes back to town to help her mother sell the family home hoping to make a quick getaway. Well nothing ever goes the way we plan it does it? In the time that she’s home she might find more than she bargained for! If you want to know if Lucy…makes a quick getaway? Or falls in love? Survives her family history? Solves the mystery of the haunted family home? Then you’re going to want to grab this book!

So good I couldn't put it down!

I absolutely loved this book. I had no idea where it was going and loved all the amazing surprises and witchy bits sprinkled throughout. It was so well done I was too creeped out to walk around the house at night while reading it!
