Iron Will: A MC Club Romantic Suspense

Rate this book
Gemma Holloway was always off-limits, my best friend’s little sister, the one woman I swore I’d never touch.

When she walks back into my bar after eight years, she’s not the bright-eyed girl I remember. She’s bruised in ways no one can see… and everything in me locks onto one

She’s not safe.
And I’m done pretending I don’t want her.

Gemma doesn’t trust men, least of all a dominant one like me. Her ex twisted her desires into something shameful, something she’s afraid to feel again. But at The Forge, my club, my rules, I’ll show her the difference between control and care. Between taking and choosing.

She thinks she’s broken.
I know better.

Protecting her should be simple.
Not falling for her? Impossible.

IRON WILL is the first instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult IRON BROTHERHOOD MC erotic, Dom/sub romance story line. This is thirty year old, graphic designer Gemma Holloway, and MC member and bar owner Will Lawson’s story line.

NOTE: Due to that nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Will and Gemma) IRON WILL follows in the wake of the return of Gemma Holloway to her hometown in Oregon having left her emotionally abusive husband.Broken and struggling, Gemma finds solace with her brother Cole, and his best friend Will, the man with whom Gemma will fall in love but the past refuses to let go, and Will Lawson is determined to protect Gemma with the help of the Iron Brotherhood MC.

The world building follows several pathways including Gemma’s healing, Will’s slow seduction of Gemma, and the take down of the man taking aim at our story line heroine.

The relationship between Will and Gemma is a best friend’s younger sister. Will is a widower, and hasn’t seen Gemma in close to five years but Gemma’s returns brings out the softer side of a man whose need to dominate comes naturally, a need that is equal to Gemma’s desire to submit. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Gemma’s brother and MC member Cole Holloway, as well as Tate and Shaw; and soon to be ex-husband Craig Burns.

IRON WILL is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dramatic and intense; the romance seductive;the characters are dynamic and healing.

I am not sure if Iron Will was fast paced or if I was so caught up in Gemma and Will's story that time sped by. The book was an easy read.

I thought it was an intriguing story while at the same time I was trying to get over my slight confusion. The Brotherhood, Ironside bar, and the Forge were separate entities and connected at the same time. I had too many questions.

I didn't realize that the Brotherhood was considered a motorcycle club. I wish there had been more background information about the origins of the Brotherhood and some of the members at the beginning of the book. Will, Cole, Shaw, Tate, and Nash had some kind of connection other than the MC. How did they come together? Cole and Will were best friends. What about everyone else? At some point it was stated that Will created the Brotherhood with Cole's help. If some of that had been made clear for me, it would have been a 5 star read.

I liked the way Gemma was described and how she left a bad situation but blossomed during her encounters with Will. I liked the way Will exhibited patience until Gemma felt more secure and self assured. I loved the part where Craig made an appearance again and he encountered a different Gemma. I only wished he had suffered more, lol.

I had questions about Gemma and Sarah. I think Sarah though of Gemma as a little sister and I wish it had been explored more. Bottom line, I liked the book, I enjoyed the story. I just needed more detail. I needed ages, physical descriptions, reasons for behavior, detailed timelines. I admit to being a greedy reader. I wanted more. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

As the first, this book sets the stage for the Iron Brotherhood series. Will is the co-owner of the local pub and also Forge, a respected BDSM establishment. He has a naturally dominant personality, though also a tender and caring side that he shows a select group. Gemma has recently returned to her brother (Cole's) home after leaving her husband of 4 years. She's a shell of the vibrant woman she once was as a result of the belittling and abusive "BDSM" practices of her soon to be ex - Craig. Having always seen her as Cole's little sister, Will now sees her in a new light. His past experiences enable him wait until needed, to help her settle and to become more comfortable in her own skin again. Their dynamic changes and grows as this story progresses. He is her safe space and they are their mutual fresh starts. Having left Craig didn't erase him, and he doesn't take kindly to the action. Likewise, the Brotherhood doesn't much like what he did to Gemma. As he continues to escalate, will Will and the Brotherhood step in to protect her?

This first book was fast paced and highly engaging. The characters were, as always, well defined and I for one loved the growth displayed throughout the book. The frank look at the foundation of D/s was particularly well done, as were the scenes where it was demonstrated. There was a wonderful balance between the action/drama, emotional, and physical components of the story. This book was quite different from many of Delta's previous workshops, in a positive and exciting way. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is a brilliant start to a new series by Delta James.
Will Lawson was shocked and dismayed to see the broken, emaciated, hollow eyed, anxious woman standing at the door to the bar, could this be the fearless, sassy, little sister of his best friend and partner, Cole ?
Will, Cole and the brotherhood had set up Ironside Bar when Will's beloved wife Sarah had died, Coles little sister, Gemma had stood beside Will as Sarah's body was lowered into the ground.
Gemma had fallen in love and married Craig and moved away from her home town of Anchor Bay but now she was back, a shadow of her former self.
Will made Gemma feel safe and she gradually unburdened herself to him, the reason that she flinched when anyone approached her, how Craig had turned from loving into controlling, gradually isolating her from her family and friends, even encouraging her to miss her father's funeral, he abused her, using BDSM to humiliate and hurt her.
Little by little, gentle, but dominant by nature, Will, helped Gemma to face her fear, to realize that she wasn't deviant and that she deserved better, inevitably they fell in love, but she was the little sister of his best friend.
This is a beautifully written story, I love the way that Will explained the workings of the Forge, a private, well respected and safe BDSM club, how consent was non negotiable. The author addresses the subject with knowledge and sensitivity, the characters are well rounded and very likeable, the pace is fast and I really look forward to the next book in the series.

Iron Will by Delta James kicks off the Iron Brotherhood series with grit, heart, and a surprisingly tender punch. This story centers on Will — dominant, protective, and deeply grounded — and Gemma, who’s escaping a marriage where BDSM was used as a weapon instead of a choice. When she comes home broken but brave, Will becomes her safe harbor, proving there’s a powerful difference between control and care.
What worked really well for me was the emotional rebuild. Will doesn’t rush Gemma, doesn’t “fix” her, and that patience made their connection feel earned. The book does a thoughtful job showing healthy D/s dynamics while balancing MC danger, romantic suspense, and found-family vibes from the Brotherhood. The pacing is fast and engaging, though a few moments felt like they could’ve lingered just a bit longer emotionally — my only reason for docking a star.
Overall, this is a strong, intense series opener with solid character growth, protective alpha energy, and a romance rooted in healing and trust. If you like MC romance with emotional depth and respectful kink representation, this one is absolutely worth the ride.

This is Gemma and Will's story. Few authors truly understand how to write trauma and how the one who suffered and those around them should behave. Most don't get it and their writing would destroy the one who suffered. This author gets it right in this story. The trauma and effects on Gemma and how it affected her interaction with authors came across in a knowledgeable way that it appears the author did their homework. It wasn't glossed over or ignored. While this was a romance story, it wasn't an in-your-face spice. The trauma was addressed and always in the background. The person who caused the trauma was faced and charged not simply dealt with. The club wasn't simply people walking around half dressed but discussed and used to heal. The best thing, they didn't simply jump into it. They developed a relationship, grew the one they had and it made sense. Thank you for making this one make sense and understanding how to handle the trauma. An emotional read as a young woman, Gemma escaped her marriage of four years from a man that used BDSM dominance to belittle her and isolate her from her the outside world. Finally, she had had enough, she found the strength to run home to her brother and the Brotherhood. She saw Will first, an old family friend that realized she was the shell of a woman, she once was. Fortunately, he had enough experience from his deceased wife to know she needed space. He spent months just watching her and waiting, until she was ready to talk. They had a connection between them that everyone could see. She would not even talk to the brother, even after the husband found her. The husband had not made a move yet. He was only letting her know, he knew where, she was. Eventually, she talked to Will about the situation, and he proceeded to teach her some of the correct procedures for BDSM. Will the Brotherhood save her from the husband?

A most enjoyable read, wonderful characters and storyline that’s a riveting read
This is a fast paced read that is filled with wonderful characters and also a lesson of exactly what two people in love will do for each other. Will is the co-owner and founder of the Ironside bar and the Forge a well respected BDSM club as well as the Iron Brotherhood MC.
Gemma arrived at the pub a haunted and scared girl and Will instantly recognised that she was suffering from trauma, he believed that she had been abused and soon discovers this is in fact the case. Gemma needed some time to heal and Will was able to offer support and guidance that enabled her to heal, over time they were fortunate enough to find their own happiness and I am sure that others will enjoy this the first book in this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This is book one of what will be a very interesting series. It is also a standalone with an excellent storyline. There may be triggers for some people with the abuse (not from the MCH) but from Gemma's past. POV from both Gemma and Will. I loved that Will was patient with her , letting Gemma choose. How he dealt with her pain and also dealing with her big brother which was his his best friend. I loved how Will was able to teach her the difference between the true meaning of a Dom/sub relationship and the one she was in.

Well written , to me emotional with the perfect amount of angst. Action from the first page. Steam to the eventual romance. I loved how the "brothers " were able to rally support for her and help with each of their specialties. And of course the perfect HEA for them.

Can't wait to see who will be the next to find their HEA.

Gemma Holloway comes back to her hometown a shadow of her former self. Her marriage has ended and she is starting over. She plans to move into her parent's old house, but for now she moves in with her brother, Cole. She is not ready to talk about what happened to her with her husband, but Cole and his friend, Will, can tell it was bad.

Will runs the Brotherhood's bar. Ironside Bar is a neighborhood bar, but the building, which the Brotherhood owns, contains other things, including their BDSM club, Forge. Will hasn't seen Gemma since his wife's funeral five years ago. He's not sure what happened to her, but she is skittish and quiet, nothing like she was before she left town for college.

Won't spoil it for you. I'm not sure that Gemma didn't recover and move on way too quickly, but it is a book and things happen fast by necessity. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

A non stop fairly fast paced read filled with some great relationship lessons. The storyline revolves around Will, co-owner and founder of the Ironside Bar and The Forge(a BDSM club) as well as Iron Brotherhood MC. When his best friend and partner Cole's sister, Gemma showed up at the pub, a haunted, touch scared ghost of herself, Will immediately knew she'd been abused. Delta deftly defines the lines between a relationship with trust and respect versus using BDSM as a cover for abuse. Gemma needed time to heal and Will gave her his support all the way until they finally could reach their own happiness. Book 1 is a promising start to the series and a series I'm planning on following. Hopefully we'll learn more about the brotherhood in the coming books.

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. Note that there is mention of emotional abuse and death of a spouse, so sensitive readers to read with caution. Story was a lot more than a bdsm romance as it dealt with heavy subjects like death of a loved one, guilt, grief, accepting who you are, self worth, leaving an emotionally abusive marriage and the scars they leave behind. Both Will and Gemma have their own emotional scars which made them so relatable and you appreciate the strength it takes to live through the pain and to find happiness again. The story was well written, with a good balance of emotion, connection and steam with a touch of bdsm kink that flowed well with the trust and relationship that Will and Gemma was building. The HEA ending was just perfect for this couple.

Gemma finally after 4 years of torment leaves what on the outside looks like the perfect mainstream man and marriage. She runs trying to hide her trail, to her only remaining family her brother Cole. Her brother is one of the founders of the biker club Iron Brotherhood.
You would think after her “perfect” life in the big city that she would be in more danger but, there is also Will. She has known him for many years and loved him for most of those years. She thought she was looking for a love like what he had with his wife Sarah. She thought she had found that love. What she found was ridged control with shame and gas lighting. Somehow she found the strength to leave and when she gets to her safe place Will is there to protect and care for her. Love is the only true base to build a home on.

This is a new series by this author and I was very interested specifically because it was different, an MC story vs. a shifter book. Ultimately there weren't a lot of traditional MC elements that I was expecting and was more of a BDSM book. But I loved the characters and the storyline, so that was good. Gemma has come home after leaving her abusive husband but she thinks of herself as broken after staying with him for four years. Will is the man on which she based her dreams of the perfect partner. He's also her brother's best friend. He was the perfect example of a man who let her come to him, who didn't push her, who listened when she needed a shoulder to cry on, etc. Loved their scenes together and how much Gemma grew during her time away from her husband. Great confrontation/ closure and HEA. I enjoyed this new series and will be checking out the next book.

Great story! Lots of angst. Gemma comes home after a disastrous marriage. Will, and her brother Cole, see she’s experienced something bad and are pretty sure they know what, but give her space to tell them about it herself. She has a lot of distrust, of herself and any man, after the abuse she had suffered. Really liked both main characters. Gemma gathers her courage and escapes her abusive marriage. Will puts his needs and desires aside to make sure Gemma knows she’s safe and valued. I thought the differences between abuse and the rules of consent in BDSM were very well explained. Will was such a great guy - steady, supportive, accepting - and a true Dom who could nurture and protect Gemma’s submissive needs . Great start to a new series.

This book was absolutely awesome I loved it, the storyline, the characters and the chemistry were amazing and the ending was perfect. When Cole found a perfect building for the Brotherhood in Anchor Bay. The Brotherhood built the perfect building for their interests, even a bar that is maintained by the Brotherhood. When Will lost his wife to cancer years ago and still remained faithful to his wife, that was until she walked in. Gemma Holloway, Cole's baby sister walked into the bar not looking like herself, lost a lot of weight, and jumps at anyone that goes near her. Will helped Gemma be herself again while trying to keep his distance except the heat that pours through them was too hot to ever stay away.

It has been eight years since Gemma Holloway has been in her hometown of Anchor Bay, and the minute she steps into the Ironside Bar, owner Will Lawson and her brother's best friend notices. Gemma is the one woman he swore he wouldn't touch. But when he sees her flinch from her brother's touch, he sees red and decides in that moment that no matter the consequences he will protect her. That he will teach her that there is a difference between control and abuse.
These are all compelling and realistic characters with diverse and intriguing personalities. This a steamy small-town romance with surprising twists, suspense, some erotic interactions, BDSM, and a happily ever after. A must-read series starter that I recommend to other readers.

This was a surprisingly strong read. The storyline was engaging, and both Gemma and Will felt well developed and emotionally grounded. I appreciated how the book handled Gemma’s trauma with care, especially in showing that her fears and shame were the result of abuse—not personal failure.
Will’s role stood out. Rather than “saving” her, he consistently reinforces that she was the victim and that her ex was the one who should carry the shame. That distinction was handled thoughtfully and added real depth to their dynamic.
The only element that strained believability for me was Gemma’s lack of basic research into the lifestyle, which felt slightly unrealistic given her circumstances. Still, it didn’t detract significantly from the overall experience.

Grab your tissues! This is quite an emotional story. It is not just a story about love, but a story of healing, fighting, rediscovery, trust and family. So much baggage to unpack in this book. Gemma and Will both are trying to deal with their pasts. Gemma, running from an abusive relationship, runs to the only place she hopes will be safe - home. Home to her brother, his best friend Will and the Brotherhood. Will, while still not living his life fully after the death of his wife five years ago, is instantly attracted to Gemma, but he sees things in her that she hoped to hide from him and her brother. His patience and understanding will go a long way to help her heal. But of course, that is assuming Gemma has been able to escape her abusive husband once and for all.

This book has it all. Fast pace, chemistry, spice annd excellent characters. Who have faults, we see grow and become each others strength.

Will a member of the Iron Brotherhood MC is the co-owner and founder of the Ironside bar and also a respected BDSM club called the Forge.

When Gemma enters the bar she scared and has suffered a great deal. Will recognises a soul that has suffered. He gives Gemma time to heal mentally and physically.

Will is a man of strength, grieving , patience and pure heat. Gemma may have been dented but not broken. A woman of courage and growth.

Loved how the Iron Brotherhood man and Gemma's brother supports and protects.

This first book in the new Iron Brotherhood series has Gemma running away from her abusive husband, who controlled and emotionally damaged her. She went back to her hometown where her brother, a member of the Iron Brotherhood MC club, can help her. Will, a club member, knows Gemma and is surprised by her emotionally broken-down appearance and knows something is very wrong.

He is a Dom at the MC club’s Forge, a BDSM club and Gemma’s husband claimed himself as a Dom but did not treat her as one but controlled her every movement. Will helped her overcome her trauma with patience and caring. Of course, the ex- added a layer of danger to the mystery, as he wasn’t ready to let her go. I liked this story in terms of Gemma's personal emotional growth. It took great courage to stand up and make her own decisions on what was best for her. I absolutely loved Will's patience with her fears and his innate kindness to her as she tried to find her real self.
His support as Gemma faced a man who tried to pull her back into his abuse cycle. His moving past his own grief and allowing himself to open his heart again. I just enjoyed their story. The men in his Iron Brotherhood circle including Gemma's brother supporting and protecting them without hesitation! Just a great, feel-good story.

Will and Gemma’s story is the first in the Iron Brotherhood MC series with a side of bdsm at The Forge, their private club. The storyline is one that tugs at the heartstrings as she’s a broken woman, made to feel small and worthless by the man who should love her and protect her. Will and the rest of the Brotherhood rally around her and the game is on ! Delta James did a great job with this type of storyline, she didn’t over sensationalize it, but had you feeling what Gem and Will were going through. The characters are fun to read and I can’t wait to read the next book. 5✨’s. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book gives you all the feels from happy to sadness and everything in between. There is the death of parents where the MFC Gemma missed her own parents funeral due to her husband telling her they didn't have the money for her to attend. Then there was the MMC Will's wife passing from cancer. Then you have anxiety where Gemma is afraid to be around men afraid they are going to hurt her, although deep down she knows they won't. Finally, you happiness in both Gemma and Will finally find what they are looking for in each other.

Will's wife died of cancer. He never expected to find love again. Gemma's husband abused her, twisted the submissive life she wanted into something abusive that could have ended her. She moved home to be with her brother, Will's best friend. Together, they build a new life that suits them together. That's the meat and potatoes of the book. Yes, there is some mild BDSM. But it is almost irrelevant to the bigger story of redemption.

A beautiful novel by Delta James and the start of a nes series, Iron Brotherhood. Well worth a read.

Will Lawson was reminiscing about Gemma Holloway who appeared in his bar… he hadn't seen her since he buried his wife Sarah about six years before… and now she looked haunted, gaunt and frightened… He called her brother Cole to get there fast… she had left Anchor Bay seeking her own way, had a bad marriage to man who mentally abused her, isolated her from her friends and family and she finally had enough and returned to her home… but will fate give Will and Gemma a chance to explore the attraction both are feeling… you will need to read this starter of a new series to see what happens… I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.

I thought that this was a nice, quick read.

I really loved both MC and I love an MC club.

This MC club is much different than the others I have read. Main has this Mac doesn’t have the overtly Morally Gray members.

While on the shorter side of novels I read, this one packs a punch and really does deal with a lot of heavy topics, so please check the content warning/trigger warnings before jumping in.

Really, the only thing keeping me from giving this a 5 star is the quickness of the characters development. For such heaviness of topics I would have loved more depth of character development. That being said, I would happily read the next in this series.

This is a MC BDSM Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Iron Brotherhood series. I got pulled totally 100% into this book from the first page, and I could not put this book down. I stayed up late just to finish this book. I loved the characters. This book had so much drama and craziness going on that I just could not put it down. I loved this book so much. The MMC (Will) won my heart, and I think he was so sweet. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
