She thinks she’s falling for two people. She has no idea they’re the same one.
In a city divided between those with powers and those without, Iris Vance is used to being invisible—timid, broke, and burdened by her brother’s growing debts. When she takes a job at The Crucible, a neon-lit bar where tensions simmer between powered and human patrons, she expects trouble… but not this kind.
There’s dangerous, controlled, and impossible to ignore. And magnetic, unpredictable, and devastatingly tempting.
Iris is drawn to both of them, even as guilt coils beneath her ribs—because wanting one person is complicated enough. Wanting two? That’s dangerous. What she doesn’t know is that Kael and Kaia are the same gender-shifting superhuman whose secret could shatter the fragile peace she’s clinging to.
As Iris is pulled deeper into their orbit, violence rises, loyalties fracture, and her carefully ordered world threatens to collapse. Desire is a risk. Trust is a weapon. And some truths burn hotter than any flame.
Two for one is a fast-burn, dark urban fantasy romance filled with tension, identity, power, and a deliciously tangled romance. Perfect for fans of The Umbrella Academy, Sense 8, Gen V, and Dark Fever.
You’ll love this novella if you

Natasha is a UK-based author whose lifelong love of reading naturally evolved into a passion for writing her own stories. A dedicated devourer of dark romance—and all things morally grey—she thrives on exploring complicated characters, twisted emotions, and the beautiful chaos that happens when danger and desire collide.

Circus of Sins is her debut novel and the first step into a world of dark, romantic, genre-mixing tales she can’t wait to share.
Two for One is a short, fast-paced urban fantasy novella with an interesting and refreshing premise. The idea of a gender-fluid main character immediately caught my attention and felt unique within the genre.
While I was intrigued, I found myself wishing the story had more room to breathe. With the limited page count, I struggled to fully connect with the characters, and at times the pacing left me a bit lost. There’s a lot packed into this novella—interesting worldbuilding, a magic system, and bigger ideas—but I think it would have benefited from more development.
The romance didn’t quite work for me personally. Insta-love is a trope I tend to struggle with, and the relationships felt a little too sudden for me to fully invest, though the spice scenes were well written and will likely appeal to readers who enjoy a whirlwind romance.
Overall, Natasha’s writing is engaging and her ideas are bold, and I can easily see this world thriving in a longer format.
While it didn’t fully work for me, I appreciate the opportunity to read it and am thankful to the author and Whimsy Words PR for the ARC ❤️
very different to my normal reads, I do love urban dark fantasy but I felt this was missing something.
I know it's a Novella and it's short but for me it felt very fast paced, not a lot of understanding for what was happening. I definitely felt a little confused throughout. the instalove felt a bit random for me too. I definitely feel like the idea of the gender shifting was pretty new and cool, I just think this might have done better in a longer book setting with more depth of story and character.
the world building was definitely interesting and I'd love to have had more to read on it and to get to know the characters more, i think it was just too short for me to fully grasp what was happening!
that to say, the writing is very well done and I definitely feel like if this was longer it might have been better for me!
thank you so much Whimsy Words PR for the arc! ✨️🫶
Two for One is a short, fast‑paced, urban fantasy novella with a novel hook. The premise of a gender-fluid MC was interesting and not something I've seen before in this genre.
Although I was intruiged, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this book needed more room to breathe. With such a limited page count, I never quite had enough time to connect with the characters or fully invest in their journeys. I think only writing this tale as a novella is doing the story a disservice.
There’s a lot of story packed into these pages with an interesting magic system, societal tensions, an urban fantasy world... while it’s imaginative and fast-paced, the speed of the storytelling meant I often felt a bit lost. I was confused by certain elements of the world and didn't really understand the significance of key plot events.
The romance also didn’t quite land for me. Insta‑love is a trope I struggle with and the relationships here felt too sudden for me to invest in them emotionally. The spice scenes were exciting and well written and readers who enjoy a whirlwind romance might enjoy this story more but for me, it kept me from fully engaging with the story.
That being said, Natasha's writing is fun and immersive. She clearly has bold ideas and a talent for building intriguing worlds. The premise is genuinely interesting, and I can easily see this world thriving in a longer format.
If you love fast-paced urban fantasy with insta-love, a unique protagonist, and a dash of heat, this novella will likely hit the spot. For me, though, it didn’t quite have enough space or depth to keep me fully hooked.
Thank you to Whimsy Words PR and Natasha Wingfield for gifting me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Two for One was such a clever, fast-paced, and addictive read. The premise alone pulled me in, and the execution did not disappoint. Watching Iris unknowingly fall for two sides of the same person created constant tension, emotional conflict, and a delicious sense of anticipation that kept me turning pages.
I really loved Iris as a protagonist — quiet, observant, and burdened by responsibility, yet slowly discovering her own strength. The dynamic between her and Kael/Kaia was intense, complicated, and emotionally charged, and the gender-shifting element was handled in a way that felt meaningful rather than gimmicky. The chemistry was strong, the power dynamics were compelling, and the secret at the heart of the story raised the stakes in such an effective way.
For a novella, this story packed in so much depth — gritty urban fantasy worldbuilding, social division, morally gray attraction, and real emotional weight. I flew through this book and genuinely loved every moment of it. If you enjoy dark urban fantasy romance with unique concepts and high tension, this one is absolutely worth the read.
Two for One by Natasha Wingfield is an insta-love (lust?), morally grey, urban fantasy story that I was given the pleasure of ARC reading for. Thanks! Unfortunately, I just couldn't connect with the story, and that's okay! 2 stars!
While I believe the premise of the story was good and had potential, I don't believe that it quite connected as initially intended. I found it difficult to get to know and connect with the characters, and I was bored for most of the read. A lot of the time, the story felt really random, and I had NO CLUE about what was going on despite my best efforts. However, having a genderfluid MC did make me excited, and the fact that there was representation had me over the moon. Aside from the story just not being for me, I did enjoy Iris and Kael/Kaia's story!
Reminder: Just because a story wasn't for me, doesn't mean that it won't be your next 5-star read! Please check it out and decide for yourself<3
2.5 ⭐️ I’m not sure I understood what I read. This was pretty much insta-love and fast-paced, which makes sense for a novella, but it also felt repetitive and difficult to understand what exactly was going on between them. At the same time, this was spicy and had interesting world-building, which I imagine would be very cool if this was a full- length novel.
Thank you to Whimsy PR for the advanced reader copy 🥰
This book follows Iris Lance, who falls for two people, set in an urban fantasy world divided between Supes and Non-Supes.
This is my honest review. I genuinely love Natasha—I really do, but I’ll always be real and honest, because that’s what good friends do.
I went into this completely blind. From the very start, I got Gen V vibes because of the shapeshifter Kael, and I was immediately like: YES. I absolutely love The Boys universe, so I was fully in, gimme, gimme, gimme.
I did like this book, but I think it would have worked better as a full novel rather than a novella. There is a lot packed into this story, which is delicious, of course, but also quite overwhelming at times.
A story like this, with these characters, the world-building, the powers, and the overall concept, needed more space to breathe. It deserved a longer, deeper narrative. If everything had been spread out more, explored in greater depth, and given a slower burn (if you will), I would have absolutely lapped it up.
The insta-love element isn’t one of my favourite tropes—I’m very much a slow-burn girly, so that may be why I didn’t fully connect as deeply as I wanted to. I would have loved to see more buildup from Iris’s perspective: how she started falling for them, and why.
So much happens from start to finish, but without enough time to truly explore the reasoning behind it all.
SPOILER WARNING — do not read on if you don’t want it ruined. When Iris explodes and gets her powers, I was like, “Ahh, okay.” But that reveal should have been far more intense. It had the potential to be a huge, emotionally charged moment, and I wanted to feel it more.
I also feel we had a huge missed opportunity with the Kael reveal to be both people, that could of been BIG, Iris could of felt so betrayed, she could of know them separately, differently on a greater level - not just over the course of a few days.
This story has so much potential, SO MUCH and I just wish, I WISH, it was a full length one instead of it all crammed into a small book.
That said, Natasha had a fantastic idea for a genuinely great story. Her writing is descriptive and engaging, and her storytelling style is fascinating, truly. This particular story, though, would have benefited enormously from being a full novel from the outset. There were simply too many strong ideas for such a short book.
However, if you love The Boys, spice, girl-on-girl, boy-on-girl, and chaotic, beautifully messy energy, this book absolutely delivers all of that.
"Kael had seen my weakness and challenged it; Kaia had seen my hidden strength and validated it."
Two for One by Natasha Wingfield was an absolutely wild ride! This novella is STEAMY, and doesn't waste any time diving into the erotic bits. In the beginning, I found myself wishing that I had more context, a longer story with a slower build up between the main characters. However, by the end of the book, I decided this story is exactly as it should be, and I wouldn’t change anything about it. There was a much, much more important message than simple erotica illustrated in this story: gender identity, and self-acceptance.
Kael and Kaia exist on a spectrum as the same person. They are able to change their physical form from male to female using a sort of magical power, while also embracing the different emotional states and personality traits associated with each gender. Kael represents the masculine, dominating side of their being while Kaia represents the feminine, nurturing side. Enter Iris: a meek, scared, fragile young woman who has spent her entire life living under her abusive brother's thumb, and Kael instantly wants her.
Throughout this book, Kael/Kaia use both sides of their dual gender identification to allow Iris to open up and embrace herself as she is: a strong individual, who is able to welcome both control and compliance into her life, and able to love both herself and others exactly as they are. Kael/Kaia help Iris “take back her power” so to speak, and it’s a really incredible transformation to witness.
Natasha has a way with words that make them stick. This book was a short read, with a high impact. The message weaved into this story is a really important one for the world we live in, and is offered in a way that makes such a heavy and controversial topic seem less taboo. It is absolutely acceptable to love whomever you want, be whomever you want to be, and share your true, authentic self with the world. In fact, doing so should be celebrated, and that’s exactly what is portrayed in this story. Kael/Kaia and Iris's story is a brilliant depiction of what it means to grow up in a world where gender isn't assigned, but is freely chosen, and love is a connection that lives outside of societal normals. Simply put: beautiful.
“I am defying every oppressive rule that ever bound me.”
Thank you for sharing an ARC with me, Whimsy Words PR and Natasha!
I took a plunge on this one, as it's not something I would typically go for given its description. That being said, I’m glad I did.
A fast-paced, unyielding, urban romance that completely blurred the lines of desire and what it means to be desirable. Iris is typically shy and unoffensive, walking into a situation where she lacks any control, much like the rest of her life. Kaia helps her claim herself, showing herself who she can be in the light and the dark. Keal fulfils her submissive yearning she never knew she had, utter possessiveness in full swing.
If you're looking for a quick, one-sitting escape from reality, this is exactly what you need. This novella took such a taboo, puzzling truth for so many people and gave it a bright light. Keal/Kaia’s complex identity was a positive grasp on what it means to allow yourself to create who you are and proves worth in every form.
Described as 'deliciously dark’, it certainly was delicious. I didn’t feel overpowered by smut but it definitely felt spicy (the epilogue is for the real spice fans), the plotline not being diminished by their desires. Even if it was the majority of the story itself.
The best part of this whole novella? The writing. I am officially a huge fan of Wingfield’s writing style. Effortlessly descriptive, I could see the image on the page and that's exactly what anyone wants when they’re reading.
It is definitely an insta-love story, though. We seem to go from timid and unassuming to ‘I love you’ pretty quickly, but as stated ‘every scene drives the story forward and nothing is wasted.’ If you’re not a fan of that, this probably wouldn’t be for you. But, I think it's important to remember this is a stand-alone novella - don’t think too hard on it, just enjoy.
If you're in a reading rut, this is sure to get you out of it.
Two for One was such a captivating and unique read. It blends romance, spice, and supernatural elements in a way that felt fresh and emotionally layered. The story follows Iris, a powerless FMC who applies for a job at a bar to help pay off her brother’s debts. The bar owner, Kael, is powerful, intimidating, and very much outside her comfort zone—so much so that Iris struggles to truly open up around him. What she doesn’t know is that Kael has the ability to shift forms, including transforming into Kaia. As Kaia, Iris feels safer. More open. More herself. Through this transformation, Kael gets to see sides of Iris he would never have been able to reach otherwise—her vulnerability, her softness, and her true personality. What I loved most is that Kael and Kaia each brought something different to the table, and each version of him connected with a different side of Iris. When Iris eventually learns the truth—that Kael and Kaia are the same person—the emotional fallout hits hard. The heartbreak, betrayal, and confusion felt raw and believable. Watching Iris process that deception while still grappling with her feelings added so much depth to the romance. The spice was definitely there, but it was balanced well with character development and emotional tension. This wasn’t just about heat—it was about identity, trust, and connection. Tropes & vibes: * Supernatural romance * Secret identity * Power imbalance (powered MMC / powerless FMC) * Emotional betrayal * Spicy romance * Dual identity dynamic Final thoughts: Two for One is an engaging, spicy romance with a clever concept and emotional weight. If you enjoy supernatural elements, complicated identities, and romance that explores multiple sides of connection, this book is definitely worth the read. 🖤✨ Unique, spicy, and emotionally charged ✨🖤

Thank you so much for the ARC! This was… a lot, in the best and slightly chaotic way.
I really liked how different this story felt, the concept is super interesting and the gender-shifting element was genuinely cool to read. I also loved the LGBTQ representation, and the spice was really really well done.
That being said, I won’t lie... I did get lost a few times. Especially with Kael/Kaia, there were moments where I had to stop and reread just to make sure I knew which version of the character we were with. I know this is a novella and meant to be fast paced, but for me it moved very quickly, with so much happening in such a short amount of time. I kept wishing for a bit more breathing room, especially when it came to the magic system and the world building. I wanted to understand it more and spend more time with the characters. The instalove also felt a little sudden for me.
This honestly has the potential to be a four-star read, but because I felt confused here and there and felt like something was missing, it ended up being a three-star for me. That said, the writing itself is really solid, and it’s one of the stronger novellas I’ve read. If this were ever expanded into a longer book, I’d be very interested in reading more!
If you’re in the mood for a quick, spicy fantasy with a unique premise and shifter elements, this could be a fun pick!
Two for one is a fast and intense urban fantasy novella which packs a punch in less than 150 pages
The relationship between Iris and Kael / Kaia had a lot of emotional depth despite the size of this novella. You get an insight into Iris and her feelings of betrayal of being trapped emotionally and physically and how this informs her decisions as the plot develops.
“are you a protector or a predator?”
I really enjoyed the morphing between identities for Kael and Kaia, seeing the changes in perspective based on the physical identity they take on. This helped shed light on their actions and getting a deeper understanding of how their power changes during the transitions.
The power itself was a fascinating concept between Kinetic and Temporal. The dynamics of the power and impact on the urban society definitely gave more substance to the story alongside the smut and created a nice balance between the two.
Overall, if you’re looking for a quick and spicy time with the added complexities of superpowers and finding your identity, this dark urban fantasy novella is for you
This novella offers a quick, gripping read that dives deep into the darker sides of self-discovery, power, and manipulation. The plot moves at a fast pace, with plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged, though at times it felt a little hard to follow. Despite a few moments where the story lost me, I enjoyed the overall experience.
The characters are morally grey, which adds complexity to their actions and motives. You never really know who to trust, and that makes the story unpredictable and intriguing. If you’re a fan of darker plots with questionable characters and uncertain loyalties, this novella will definitely appeal to you.
That said, it’s not for everyone. If you're not into stories with a more twisted tone, this might not be the right fit. However, if you enjoy a darker, more thought-provoking narrative, it’s worth picking up.
"With Kaia, I was discovering myself. With Kael, I was being claimed."
Please develop into a full read 🙏
There is SO much detail, world building and a real good plot for this to be just a novella. While it was a classic fast paced, smut filled spicy fun fest of an urban fantasy, it definitely was a lot to unpack which made it a little harder to follow/go with the MC's flow.
I LOVED Iris and Kael/Kaia. The instant connection, chemistry and pocessiveness is 👌🔥 The frequent usage of 'primal' was giving me the ick but the spice made up for it 🌶
🖤 Morally Gray 👥 Gender Shifting ❤️🔥 Power Dynamics / Rough play 🔺️Love Triangle (kinda) 🌤 Grumpy x Timid 🌑 Dark urban fantasy vibes
Natasha's writing is so easy, inmersive and fun to read. Her ideas / fantasy worlds are just beginning and super excited to see more.
"Kael. Kaia. Two sides of the same coin. And I was trapped between them. And worse—I had desired both of them."
💛 Thank you Natasha and WhimsyWordsPr for the opportunity to delve into this world for an honest ARC review 💛
3.5⭐️ thank you to Whimsy Words PR for the e-ARC in exchange of an honest review.
the concept and the main theme of this book is Gender Shifting/Dual Identity which I found really cool, and it was really well-done. The writing was extraordinary too. They were only a few characters but they were well-written although it would have been better if the interactions between Iris and Kaia/Kael were real and more meaningful instead of some random spicy scenes. Nevertheless, I loved how the FMC, Iris' character progressed. Overall this is a really fast-paced novella set in a urban fantasy world, if you are looking for a quick read with insta-love and shape shifting tropes, this is for you.
When meek and mild Iris is forced into paying back her brother Jax's debts, she takes a job at The Crucible owned by Kael/Kaia, the gender shifting Superhuman. Iris quickly starts to fall for both, unaware that they are the same person. Kaia tender and feminine, and Kael strong and intimidating are intent on drawing out the fire they see within Iris, but keeping secrets are bound to get you into trouble.
I have to admit this was very different from what I usually read, but in saying that, I really enjoyed this spicy novella. The story was very fast-paced, and once or twice, it did throw me and left me a little confused at times, but overall, a good urban fantasy read.
What to expect ▫️ Multi POV ▫️ Urban Fantasy ▫️ Hidden Identity ▫️ Bi Awakening ▫️ Morally Grey MMC ▫️ Grumpy x Timid
Overall, it was a bit confusing but as the author states very clearly, it’s fast paced and a lot is happening in the story. It had so much potential and I can’t help feeling that there’s something missing. I know I know, it’s supposed to be short but I do want to know more. The world somehow reminds me of the cyberpunk series and it wouldn’t hurt to get more world building.
I haven’t really read any other story like this one though, so that was surprising. My reasoning for only three stars is mostly because I felt that there was something missing and that it was too fast paced. It’s otherwise very well written and one of the better shorter stories I’ve read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I went into this intrigued, but it just it didn’t fully work for me.
The story is fast-paced and is very insta-lovey. I struggled with the story at times and wasn’t entirely sure I understood what I was reading, particularly when it came to the magic system.
That said, there were elements I genuinely enjoyed. Natasha’s writing style is engaging, and I loved reading something different. The shifter aspect was super fun too!
The spice was well written and probably my favourite bits of the story. It was a fun, easy read that I finished in just a couple of hours, so if you’re looking for something quick with spice, fantasy elements, shifters, and queer representation, this could still be worth checking out.
Thank you to Whimsy PR for the advanced reader copy.
Thank you to Natasha and WhimsyWordsPR for allowing me to read this ARC. I had mixed feelings whilst reading this book. At some points i got fed up especially when it just kept repeating that Kael was massive, I think by the 6th chapter I got the message hes a big guy. I loved the MFC Iris, she dont take no shit from no one, I loved how she took what she wanted and at the same time tried to fight it so she could come to terms with what was actually happening in her life. even though this was a novella I felt as though pieces were missing and was rushed, because I swear by the 3rd chapter the MFC was already in love but she'd only just met the MMC feel like some information needs to be added.
Overall, this is a book I'd reread just so I can try again and see if I can get a different feel from the book, i definitely loved the concept of the book and the writing style was amazing, definitely a novella I'd recommend.
Iris lives in a world divided between Supes and Norms—and as a Norm with no powers, she’s always been vulnerable. When her brother’s debt puts her in the hands of dangerous people, Iris is forced to take a job she can’t refuse. She quickly befriends a kind, welcoming woman… and clashes with her cold, arrogant new boss. What Iris doesn’t know is that they’re the same person—and discovering the truth could change everything.
This was a short read at under 200 pages, but I found myself struggling to stay fully engaged and often drifting off to other things. I really liked the concept of the story and thought it had a lot of potential, but unfortunately I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped, which made it harder for me to stay invested.
Thankyou to Natasha Wingfield and Whimsy Words PR for a complimentary e-book of this novella in exchange for an honest review.
Two for One is a short dystopian sci-fi smut novella set in a world where super heroes are real and very, very dangerous. Our main character Iris unfortunately is not one of them and is forced to take a job at a bar to pay off her asshole brother's debts. What she finds there is more then she bargained for however... a two for one deal, shall we say?
This short novella manages to pack a surprising amount of worldbuilding into it's pages as we see through the eyes of both Iris and Kael/Kaia the genderfluid, gender-shifting bartender they work for. I liked how both personalities were part of the character's personality, and were there for Iris in different ways. I was a little iffy on the power imbalance between the characters however, and there was definitely some internalised misogyny here too (which is why this wasn't rated higher), but overall I found this to be a fun, addictive read that wasn't afraid to get dark and emotional either as the stakes got higher. You may have to suspend your disbelief as well as to how fast everything happens romantically between the three of them, but given the circumstances I think it gets a pass :P
Overall, whilst smut isn't my usual genre, I thought this was a really inventive take on it and I'd actually love to see more stories set in this world too from the author!
A super fast paced urban fantasy that can be devoured in one sitting. I’ve never read anything like this, but I’m glad I did! I wish this was a full novel so we could get to know the characters & their backgrounds more. I usually prefer a slow burn, so an insta-love was something new, not a negative, I am just intrigued to know more about them, their backstories & more on them falling in love. The spicy scenes were there, without overshadowing the plot - my first read by this author & she did an incredible job of bringing these characters to life - I could picture exactly what I was reading and was completely immersed in their story!
I really enjoy Natasha’s writing style & loved reading something very different. The shifter between male and female was great to read. I think because it’s a Novella there was a lot going on with the magic system that I would have liked to have a better understanding of. But the spice was extremely well written and it was a fun easy read that I finished in a couple of hours so if you’re looking for something to fill those hours with a bit of spice and fantasy (especially if you’re a fan of LGBTQ representation and shifters) I’d recommend picking this up.
I enjoyed the pacing of the story and some of the world building was really interesting. The characters were intriguing and I wish I got to know a bit more about them. However I found it quite hard to follow and some words seemed to be over used to the point where it wasn’t adding anything to the characters description. It wasn’t whole heartedly for me but it is still a fun read so, if you are looking for a fast paced dystopian novella that has some spice then check it out !
Iris's family story was so emotional this was my first book with super natural powers and i was hooked from the second we saw kael turn into kaia tbe speech about connection and being fluid was so meaningful, The possessiveness and power that kael has vs the comfort that kaia brings is so moving and kael defending her even when she ran was incredible when iris found out the truth i understand her hurt The confession of love towards the end was so sweet then i was emotionally ruined for a little bit the epilogue was pure chaos in the best way

This was a quick & easy read, but it left me wanting more. The characters were fantastic and unique to the story. I just would have liked more time to get to know them. It almost felt rushed to me.
Definitely recommend if you like: ◾fast burn ◾dark urban fantasy ◾identity secrets ◾morally grey characters
Thank you to Whimsy Words PR and Natasha Wingfield for gifting me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Whilst I enjoyed Natasha's writing I just couldn't connect with some of the characters. As it was a novella it was quite short and fast paced, perhaps if it was longer I would have connected better.
The world building was great, I really enjoyed this and I found the magic system really interesting.
It would be a great read for someone, I'd still recommend giving this a go!
Absolutely loved this novella! Loved the slef discovery and character development. The plot progression was perfection! I loved the characters and the way the author has written this book! For the first book of the year, it's definitely started off great!
Two for One was written to be fast, slightly dark, and a little unhinged.
This is a dark urban fantasy romance novella with superpowers, manipulation, desire, and characters who are discovering who they are while everything around them is spinning out of control. It’s fast-paced, fast-burn, and spicy, with just enough emotional weight to catch you off guard.
If you’re in the mood for a quick, intense read with morally questionable choices, morally grey characters, sharp chemistry, and a darker edge, this one’s for you.
Thank you to anyone who picks this up and gives it a chance. Whether you loved it, hated it, or had complicated feelings about it, I’m grateful either way! ✨
