Emma Lee has her first betweener client in several years. Annabelle Rose's ghost appears to Emma Lee to let Emma Lee know her death was not a natural death, she was murdered. Emma Lee works with her PI fiancé, jack Henry, to solve Annabelle Rose's murder all while running the funeral home.

I loved reading this cozy mystery, this a long-awaited 9th book in the series. The mystery was full of twists and turns along the way to the big reveal. Emma Lee and Jack Henry have great chemistry, both has a couple and as investigators. Annabelle Rose is like a typical betweener as she can't remember who is behind her murder in the beginning and gains more memories as Emma Lee investigates. One of my favorite parts of this particular book is the 10 ghost dogs. I would love to be met by my beloved pups in my afterlife.

All thoughts and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone.

When the recently departed Annabelle Rose appears to funeral homeowner Emma Lee Raines at her gravesite it is in ghostly form with the words, “have a toxicology report done on my body.” That could only mean one thing, Annabelle thinks she was murdered. Along with her fiancé and PI Jack Henry Ross they are soon investigating a death. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

We're back in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, with our intrepid funeral home director/ghost whisperer/detective, Emma Lee. 98 year old Annabelle Rose has passed away and she definitely isn't resting in peace. She doesn't remember the details but she absolutely knows she was murdered. Emma Lee is, of course, prevailed upon to find the culprit. Suspicious real-estate deals, inheritance questions, Annabelle’s volunteer work at the animal shelter all come into play as the mystery unfolds.

What a fun read! Delightful characters, crisp dialogue and enough suspects to keep you guessing til the very end wrapped up in Ms. Kappes’ trademark southern charm. I did receive an advance copy from the author but it is my pleasure to offer my own opinions.

A cozy southern mystery with a blend of the paranormal added to the mix. Annabelle Rose at 98 years of age dies under mysterious circumstances. What was the backstory to this lady that owned a profitable cave attraction? Only with the help of funeral home director, Emma Lee, and her finance, Jack Ross, this crime is solved. A quick read that keeps the reader fully engaged from start to finish. A must read.

I loved this fantastic paranormal cozy mystery. I loved Emma and Jack as they try to decide where they will live once they get married. I enjoyed that Emma helps the ghosts solve their murders that she can see and talk to. I loved Annabelle and the ghost dogs that surround her. I really liked the humor that is in the story. I received a copy of the book and gave an honest opinion.

Emma Lee is an absolute gem of a main character, and I was completely invested in her journey. The writing is so beautifully descriptive that it pulls you right in, and that ending genuinely made me tear up. A truly wonderful read!

A Ghostly Alibi delivers another warm, slightly chaotic, and irresistibly charming mystery in Tonya Kappes’ Ghostly Southern Mysteries. Emma Lee is once again balancing her funeral‑home duties with her unusual calling — helping ghostly customers resolve unfinished business — when Annabelle appears from beyond the veil insisting she was murdered.
Emma Lee and her fiancé Jack Henry are already navigating big life decisions, like where they’ll live next, but they dive headfirst into the investigation. Annabelle’s death is wrapped up in a surprising twist: she owned a cave that’s essentially a goldmine, a major tourist attraction in their Kentucky town, and her family may be looking to sell it. That revelation alone gives Emma Lee plenty to unravel. But Annabelle’s story goes deeper. She was a beloved volunteer and passionate advocate at the local animal shelter, adored for her dedication to the pups who needed her most. Emma Lee heads undercover as a volunteer, determined to find out whether tensions or conflicts at the shelter could have led to Annabelle’s poisoning. With Annabelle’s guidance, Emma Lee and Jack Henry sift through motives, secrets, and small‑town gossip to uncover the truth and help Annabelle finally move on. It’s heartfelt, quirky, and full of the tight‑knit community spirit that makes Tonya Kappes’ books such a joy to read.

This is the 9th book in the Ghostly Southern Mystery Series that is a fantastic addition. Once you begin, you just can't put it down. Emma Lee, funeral owner, has prepared the funeral of 98 year old Annabelle Rose, when her ghostly persona appears at her own funeral telling Emma she was murdered. Emma is the only one who can see and hear her and calls these ghosts her clients and she helps them cross over. She was the owner of a cave, a real tourist attraction. She also volunteered at the local animal shelter which explains 10 ghost dogs are following Annabelle around. With so much on her plate, can Emma take on an investigation with her PI fiancé, Jack Henry all the while preparing for their wedding and trying to compromise on a place to live after get married since she lives above the funeral presently. With so many twists and turns trying to keep her funeral business going, find out what is going on at the animal shelter, since Annabelle found some fishy things going on and find a murderer. With so many threads, can they be woven to a good conclusion or will Emma find herself not only in danger, but not being able to solve her other dilemmas? This book is unputdownable! Not only do I highly recommend this book, but I highly recommend the entire series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

A Ghostly Alibi is the ninth paranormal cozy mystery in the A Ghostly Southern Mystery series. Emma Lee Raines, local funeral director and betweener, sees her first betweener client in years when one of the older residence in town dies. It’s first thought to be of old age, but when she appears to Emma Lee as a ghost there is no doubt murder is at play. Emma Lee investigates the case in order to help the ghost. Will she be able to get to the bottom of the mystery before it’s too late?

I have loved this series since I read it years ago. It was the first Tonya Kappes series I discovered and I was so happy to see a new book coming out after all these years. This latest book was good as I remembered the rest of this series being. I love the ghost element and think Emma Lee’s ability is so cool. I was pulled into this mystery from the beginning and couldn’t get through it fast enough. I love Emma Lee as the main character in this series and think she really makes these books. This latest mystery was as good as I remembered and I really hope there is more coming for Emma Lee and this series.

A Ghostly Alibi is a long awaited new installment in Kappes' paranormal ghost mystery series. I was so excited to see a return to this amazing series, and this latest installment definitely didn't disappoint. Emma Lee hasn't had to deal with one of her betweener clients for a while now. She is happy and ready to start a new life with her love, Jack Henry. Then the ghost of Annabelle Rose appears to her and tells her that she was murdered. Emma Lee then finds herself trying to solve Annabelle's murder with the help of Jack Henry. Annabelle, and even some ghost dogs.

Kappes does a great job at setting up an intriguing mystery. The book captures the reader's attention from the beginning, and it doesn't let go. The book's mystery is well done, and it is full of enough twists and turns to keep the reader's attention. I liked revisiting this world, and I hope that we get to see more books in this series. I especially loved the addition of ghosts dogs to this installment. Overall A Ghostly Alibi proved to be an entertaining read that I would most definitely recommend.

A Ghostly Alibi is the ninth book in the Ghostly Southern Mystery Series by Tonya Kappes. The amateur sleuth is Emma Lee Raines,  a funeral home owner who can speak with the dead.

Things are going smoothly for Emma Lee but then ninety-eight-year-old Annabelle Rose appears at the funeral home surrounded by ten loyal ghost dogs, saying she didn't die naturally.

A Ghostly Alibi is a fabulous cozy mystery with great characters and an entertaining mystery. I love sleuthing with Emma Lee in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky.

The ability to chat with the deceased is a fun talent that makes Emma Lee an interesting and unique sleuth. The fact that she has a funeral home means she gets lots of mysteries come her way naturally, so there is never a question of WHY she is investigating.

The small town setting provides a great backdrop and quirky characters for each mystery. This installment was especially fun thanks to the dogs, the community fundraiser, and the secrets that were exposed.

A Ghostly Alibi was entertaining from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this series to readers who like Southern mysteries and ghost stories.

Thanks to Tonya Kappes Books for the ARC!

This is a cute ghost story cozy. Emma Lee, who runs her family’s funeral home has special “Betweener” clients who are ghosts who haven’t crossed over. Since Emma Lee can speak and see these ghosts, she tries to solve what is preventing them from crossing over, including finding out who killed them. Her latest is 98 year old Annabelle who loves and cares for dogs and is a great baker. Somebody killed her and it’s up to Emma Lee and her fiance Jack Henry, former lawman who now is a PI to solve the case.

The plot was well developed and kept me guessing, although I was suspicious of the revealed killer. I really enjoyed the help the ghost of Annabelle gave and the role she played in stopping the killer from killing again.

The characters are well developed and mostly likable. Many have quirky personalities and many are called by their first two names.

I’m looking forward to the next installment in this enjoyable series.

The main character, Emma Lee, is quite the interesting character with her funeral home duties and her betweener clients. There were so many funny scenes that gave me a chuckle, which is something this author does well. When a client asks for her help in solving her manner of death, she has to stop the burial before it happens. This was definitely quite the scene, with a little side of chaos.

The author's unique writing style and gift of building interesting characters shines through in all its glory in this book. The mystery is engaging and well written as you dig through clues along the way to find out who wanted Annabelle Rose to die.

Sleepy Hollow is the perfect small town community where the gossip is always hot and everyone knows everyone's business.

The ghost dogs and the dogs at the shelter added the perfect sweetness to this story, which animal lovers will enjoy.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the 9th book in the Ghostly Southern Mystery series and it doesn't disappoint. You have to love Emma Lee, funeral home owner in Sleepy Hollow. Emma Lee is preparing for the funeral of 98 year old Annabelle Rose and things are going along fine until Annabelle's ghost appears to Emma Lee telling her that she was murdered. Emma Lee has enough on her plate with the funeral home, a wedding, finding a place to live that they can both agree on solving another ghostly murder is not what she was looking forward to but she couldn't turn her back on Annabelle and her ghostly animals. I absolutely love this series...actually any series that Tonya Kappes writes is amazing so read them all. Great characters, great mystery and twists you won't see coming. Highly recommend.

Enjoyable series set in the fictional town of Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky, cozy with paranormal thrown in. Sometimes a ghost needs help moving to the other side when they know their death was via sinister means. Funeral home director Emma Lee who can see and talks to and her fiance Jack the PI, help the ghosts resolve the questions and tie up the remaining loose ends!
Filled with great characters, dotted with humor, chaos and of course, murder, all expertly intertwined with twists and turns that will keep you on your toes from start to finish.
I highly recommend this book and series! You won't be sorry.
P.S. You can jump right in if you haven't read the others, works as a standalone, although you will certainly want to go back and read the rest.

A Ghostly Alibi is the first book I've read in the Ghostly Southern Mystery series.

I loved meeting Emma Lee, funeral director extraordinaire, and her PI fiance Jack Henry. The author provided backstory to catch me up, but not enough (not the author's fault I haven't read books 1-8). I will definitely go back and start this wonderful series from the very beginning.

A Ghostly Alibi is one of those mysteries that pulls you in and keeps you engaged. I kept guessing who did it and the possible motives all the way until the end. Every time I thought is was one person, something would happen, and I’d have to try and figure it out again. I love that in a mystery - fill the book full of twists and turns, red herrings, and deliberate misdirects so I have a hard time figuring everything out.

It’s a great mystery. Emma Lee and Jack Henry are set to marry in a year, but they’re already house-hunting. Emma Lee, stubborn as ever, grew up in a funeral home and sees nothing wrong with raising a family there. During the burial of 98-year-old Annabelle, Emma Lee gains an unexpected client—Annabelle herself—who reveals she’s been murdered. It’s hardly the right moment for such news, but Emma Lee is determined to uncover the truth. Could it be the beloved grandson, the pushy real estate agent, the dog trainer, or someone else entirely? Emma Lee and Jack Henry must sift through the suspects to solve the case.

Emma Lee Raines is back after a devasting last book. Annabelle, a local older woman dies and everyone thinks it was an accident until she shows herself to Emma Lee. Emma Lee is a funeral director and a betweener interpreter. The dead talk to her when they have died by murder.

Emma Lee needs to help Annabelle pass over and resolve where she’ll live once Jack Henry and her tie the knot.

I liked the descriptive prose which made me feel as if I was there. Emma Lee and Jack Henry can easily discuss the situation and guide each other to a resolution.

If you like quirky paranormal cozies, this one is right up your alley.

I was given an advanced copy and these are my own opinions.

Emma Lee never expected Annabelle Rose to show up at her own funeral, but show up she did, and informed Emma Lee that she didn’t die of natural causes, even if she was 98. She just can’t remember all the details. If Annabelle was murdered, who wanted her dead and why? There are several suspects but which one had the most to gain from her death? Emma Lee and her fiancé, Jack Henry Ross, set out to solve the crime and bring justice to Annabelle so she can finally cross over. They end up with more than they bargained for.

Such a fun addition to the Ghostly Southern Mystery series!

It's been a long time since we've had a book from the Ghostly Southern Mystery Series and this one was an absolute delight! Emma, the owner of Eternal Slumber Funeral Home, and her fiance Jack Henry, a PI, are planning their future together in Sleepy Hollow. They didn't plan on the appearance of the ghost of 98 yr old Annabelle and the 10 ghost dogs claiming that she had been murdered! The hunt for the killer is on! This book is full of quirky characters, a host of rescue dogs, plenty of humor and a twisty mystery! I couldn't put it down! Even when my power went out in a storm, I kept on reading in the dark! Don't miss this one!

A Ghostly Alibi is book #9 in the Ghostly Southern Mystery series by Tonya Kappes.

Emma Lee Raines and her fiancé, Jack Henry Ross, are looking for their future home. Well, Jack Henry is as Emma Lee is happy with her current home. That discussion is put on hold when Annabelle Rose dies and appears at her own funeral. Emma Lee investigates and ends up volunteering at a dog rescue. This was an interesting mystery and I loved the ending!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the 9th book in this cute southern cozy mystery series; I’ve only read one previous book in the series (the 8th book), but this book stands alone well. I love the premise of Emma Lee owning a funeral parlor and speaking to some of the dead if they have a hard time moving on. In this book, there’s been a murder and Emma Lee has to try to solve it, since a ghost’s memory is fuzzy about certain things. It’s a really fun read and I can definitely recommend the book and series. I was provided an ARC, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Emma Lee is on the case when Annabelle comes back as a ghost in order to help her solve her own murder. While Emma Lee and Jack Henry are trying to figure out where to live and become new dog owners, the suspect list grows. As the motive becomes more clear, the suspect list dwindles until Emma Lee figures out who was the guilty one. I really enjoyed this book and hope there will be more continued in this series!

Emma Lee is a funeral director in Sleepy Hollow, Kentucky. The funeral of Annabelle is today. Annabelle was a 98 year old who is now a ghost. Turns out someone murdered her. She’s going to haunt Emma Lee until Emma Lee finds Annabelle’s murderer. Jack Henry is Emma Lee’s fiancé and he’s a detective. The two of them try to solve the case together. This is the first I’ve read in this series and I look forward to reading more!

A Ghostly Alibi gives Emma Lee another round of sweet chaos: running a funeral home, wrangling ghosts, and now solving Annabelle’s “I swear I was murdered” situation. Annabelle’s death ties back to a cave worth serious money and a family ready to cash out. Add her animal‑shelter drama, and Emma Lee ends up undercover with the pups. With Jack Henry at her side and Annabelle whispering clues, she digs through gossip, motives, and mess until the truth finally comes out.

Emma Lee and Jack, a private investigator and former police officer, are engaged, hurray! The adored Annabel Lee passes away at 98 years old and Eternal Slumber, Emma’s family’s funeral home, is preparing her body for the funeral.

All the funeral plans briefly go sideways when Emma sees Annabel Lee’s ghost (Emma can see and interact with ghosts) and Annabel tells her she wants an autopsy. Duh duh duh (sound of ominous music)…

When the autopsy returns, Annabel Lee was murdered by poisoning and Emma and Jack are chasing down the clues. Emma and Jack also adopt Ginger, a sweet dog that Annabel Lee trained while she volunteered at the shelter.

As clues pile up and the suspect list shrink, when Emma finally puts the clues together and confronts the killer, she is fighting for her life, but help comes from an unexpected quarter and the villain is taken down.

Fast paced action, energetic and engaged characters with small town charm make this book quite enjoyable and has a delightful, unexpected ending - an absolutely worthwhile read

We used to babysit a local funeral home over the holidays. Great apartment over the business. I think that’s part of why I like this series so much. The characters are so well written. I’ve enjoyed following Emma’s love life. The ghosts can be so contrary until they remember enough facts to help them solve their murders.
This book had the bonus of dogs! The best dog is a rescue dog. I loved how the ghost Annabel worked with the dogs in her life.

Running a funeral home must be a hard job. Made even harder when the deceased returns as a ghost and believes they were murdered. Luckily Emma can see them and tries to help them out. Such an interesting and great series. Such great characters that keep the storyline going and keeping you entertained.

This is a fun mystery. Emma is a Betweener which means it is her job to help souls pass over when they are stuck. It is usually because they were murdered. You'd think it would be easy for Emma to solve the murder with the soul's help but they never remember what happened. The characters are fun and the mystery is well plotted.
