Синие бабочки — ★★★★½ 🦋

FIRST OF ALL, LET’S BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT ONE THING: THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE. 😭🖤

Before anything else, please READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. This book comes with A LOT of them. So when you open this book, you already KNOW what you’re getting yourself into. You KNOW there is rape, murder, violence, abuse, a completely unhinged and toxic MMC, disturbing themes, and a very unconventional story.

So if you already KNOW that you don’t like this kind of content, WHY ARE YOU READING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, only to finish the book and complain that it’s “bad,” “unreadable,” or “just trash” because it contains exactly the things you were warned about? 😭

Dark Romance is literally known for exploring dark and unconventional subjects like rape, murder, violence, obsession, abuse, morally questionable characters, and other disturbing themes. You absolutely have the right to dislike these topics, and you don’t have to force yourself to read something that makes you uncomfortable.

But picking up a book that is CLEARLY marketed as a DARK ROMANCE, ignoring the warnings, and then blaming the book for being dark makes absolutely no sense to me.

If you hate this kind of content, simply don’t read it. But don’t call a book trash just because it gave you exactly what it promised. 😭🖤

Now… LET’S TALK ABOUT THE ACTUAL BOOK BECAUSE I LOVED THIS. 😭🦋🖤

REED. ELLIOTT. WHAT. THE. HELL.

This man is absolutely, completely, ridiculously INSANE.

Serial killer? ✔️
Stalker? ✔️
Obsessive? ✔️
Possessive? ✔️
Psychotic? ✔️
Completely unpredictable? ABSOLUTELY. 😭

Reed is not your typical “morally grey” MMC who does a few bad things but is secretly a sweetheart. NO. This man is genuinely disturbed, and the best part is that the book doesn’t try to hide it.

He KNOWS he’s insane.

He knows what he is.

And he simply doesn’t care.

And somehow… I was eating it all up. 😭🖤

The way Reed becomes obsessed with Wanda was probably my favorite part of the entire book. He doesn’t just find her attractive and decide he wants her. He becomes fascinated by her.

He watches her.

Studies her.

Wants to understand her.

Sees her as his muse.

And slowly, that fascination turns into something so intense that it feels like Wanda has completely taken over his mind.

THE OBSESSION??? INSANE. 🦋

And Wanda… oh, poor Wanda. 😭

She’s trying to escape her painful past and finally start over at Belmore Academy, hoping she can find some kind of peace.

Instead, she finds Reed Elliott.

And watching her deal with everything that happens to her honestly broke my heart at times. She goes through SO MUCH, and I genuinely felt for her throughout the story.

But what I loved is that their dynamic isn’t just “crazy man wants helpless girl.”

There is SO much tension between them.

Their chemistry is SO GOOD. 😭🔥

Every interaction between them had me wondering what was going to happen next. One second I’m reading a normal conversation, and the next I’m sitting there like:

“WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MAN ABOUT TO DO?” 😭

Their relationship is toxic, twisted, unhealthy, dangerous, and completely unconventional…

AND I COULDN’T LOOK AWAY.

The romance is probably what made the book so addictive for me. It’s not sweet. It’s not healthy. It’s not something you should ever want in real life. 😭

But as a DARK ROMANCE?

OH, IT WORKED.

The possessiveness, the obsession, the tension, the psychological games, the way Reed looks at Wanda like she’s something he absolutely has to possess…

I WAS HOOKED. 🖤

And the whole “muse” concept?? I genuinely loved it.

There’s something so creepy and fascinating about the way Reed sees Wanda almost like a piece of art. His obsession goes beyond simple attraction. He’s fascinated by her reactions, her emotions, her fear, her personality, everything that makes her her.

And THAT is what made his obsession feel so intense.

It wasn’t just “I want her.”

It was more like:

“I need to understand her. I need to have her. I need her to be mine.”

AND I WAS LIKE—
SIR??? PLEASE SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. 😭

The Dark Academia setting also added SO MUCH to the atmosphere. The academy, the secrets, the dark environment, the violence, the feeling that something terrible could happen at any moment…

It created this constant sense of tension that kept me turning the pages.

And honestly, I loved how unpredictable the story was.

Every time I thought, “Okay, surely Reed cannot get any crazier than this…”

HE DID.

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 😭😭

There were definitely things I wish had been developed better, especially Wanda’s character and certain parts of the plot. So no, I wouldn’t call this a perfect book.

But did I enjoy it?

I ENJOYED THE HELL OUT OF IT. 😭🖤

This book gave me exactly what I wanted from a dark romance: a completely unhinged MMC, a deeply obsessive relationship, insane chemistry, psychological tension, violence, murder, dark academia, a fascinating “muse” dynamic, and a romance so twisted that I kept questioning my own morals for enjoying it.

And honestly?

I came for the dark romance and stayed for Reed Elliott. 😭🔪🖤

This man is a walking red flag, a serial killer, a psychopath, and probably the LAST person anyone should ever want anywhere near them…

AND SOMEHOW I’M OBSESSED.

Like… I genuinely need more books that make me stare at the page and think:

“There is absolutely something wrong with me for enjoying this.” 😭🦋🖤

This was my first dark romance novel, so it has been both exciting and a bit disappointing at the same time.

I read it using translation tools because, sadly, I don't speak Russian (though I did buy the book from a famous Russian online store). And why? Because I accidentally came across some fan art of the novel, and I was just amazed by the mystery (and the male character's crazy psycho face).

It started off reaaally well. The chapters alternating POVs between the main characters was just super exciting. You get to see a psychopath doing his weird things and planning to hunt the female lead. I just wish there had been much more of that!

However, at some point, it becomes like a Disney movie. Yes, you heard me right.

I expected it to end with some doubts about whether he was actually going to finish his big "performance"… but no, from the middle of the book on, he basically becomes a charming prince with just a few exciting, sadistic notes.

But it was super fun anyway. I would probably like to reread it in the future, and I highly wish it gets translated and published internationally.

If you know about more Russian novels about dangerous monsters, please I hear you!!

Well, this isn't a love story. If anything, it distorts the very meaning of love.

Its central question isn't, "Will the hero and heroine fall in love?" Rather, it's: "What happens when need, fear, trauma, and obsession become so tangled that a person can no longer tell them apart?"

Blue butterflies usually symbolize beauty, transformation, or sadness. Here, however, they seem to symbolize death and obsession.

I felt like the protagonist was surrounded by monsters from every direction—at home, at school, and even by the creator of her world.
That idea alone made me uncomfortable. There's something deeply unsettling about a character having nowhere safe to go, not even in her own home.

I also felt that the novel revolves almost entirely around trauma. I didn't find much beyond abuse and damaged relationships, and I don't think these ideas were explored in a complete or satisfying way. The book raises them, but it never really provides enough depth or answers.

Finished this as an audiobook. Reed Elliott as a person is interesting, especially with his hot looks (that’s what got me into this book). But, his sadistic side and generally criminal side was just thrown aside, leaving only his fascination and bloodlust for Wanda.
That’s was the only reason it was a fun read. And I enjoyed him being all soft but with the same hands could easily and skilfully kill you. Ah, sad that we didn’t got to know so much about him. The book focused more on bringing them together. And that’s when the book ENDS. This is basically just the first step into a relationship- trusting each other. Ugh, it was like stoping right before an orgasm 😒
A second part where we get to know better Reed, would be very welcome 😇
